Namibië het ‘n sterk indruk gemaak by Afrika se voorste toerismeskou, Africa's Travel Indaba 2025, in Durban. Die Namibië Toerismeraad was saam met die toerismeministerie en meer as 20 uitstallers aan die voorpunt van die poging. Sleuteluitstallers het ingesluit Namibia Wildlife Resorts, FlyNamibia, Gondwana Collection, Ultimate Safaris, en nege klein- en medium-ondernemings. 'n Hoogtepunt was die Toerismeraad se “Networking with Namibia”-geleentheid. Die munisipaliteit van Walvisbaai het 632 miljoen Namibiese dollar vir kapitaalprojekte en 660 miljoen dollar vir bedryfskoste begroot vir die 2025/26-boekjaar. Grondontwikkeling geniet prioriteit met 272 miljoen dollar vir behuisings- en nywerheidspersele, insluitend projekte soos Farm 37, Narraville Uitbreiding 8 en Walvisbaai Uitbreiding 9. Nog 25 miljoen dollar is bestem vir die Shack Dwellers Federation. Infrastruktuur kry 152 miljoen dollar vir paaie, rioolstelsels en 'n nuwe rioolaanleg. Voertuigverkryging, soos vullistrokke, word ook geprioritiseer. Die bedryfsbegroting word hoofsaaklik deur munisipale dienste gefinansier en is volgens ministeriële riglyne gebalanseer. Het afscheid van Pieter Omtzigt uit de Tweede Kamer zou klein en intiem worden, maar ook nu werd het een groot media-event. Omtzigt benoemde de rol die media hebben gespeeld in relatie met zijn burn-out. "En vervolgens wordt er in de verslaglegging dan toch weer gekozen om zijn tranen op de voorgrond te zetten", zegt Karen Eshuis, werkzaam voor het Stimuleringsfonds voor de Journalistiek. "Op het moment dat hij zich terugtrekt, heb je het fatsoen om terughoudend te zijn als media." Eshuis stelt dat media in de tijd van Omtzigts burn-out meer respect voor zijn privacy hadden kunnen hebben. "Wanneer hij weer volledig aan het werk is, dien je hem wel te bevragen erover." Uitspraken die Omtzigt deed over een 'politiek giftig klimaat' moeten wel bevraagd worden volgens Ajouad el Miloudi, presentator NTR. "Tranen op de voorpagina is ook clickbait en het is naïef om te denken dat media hier niets mee zouden doen." Verandereconoom en Spraakmaker Kees Klomp noemt het hele gebeuren 'vrij tragisch'. "Hij is er zelf gaan staan, maar ik had wel echt met hem te doen. Het raakte me." Volgens El Miloudi is het wel goed dat Omtzigt er stond om afscheid te nemen. "Na 22 jaar via de achterdeur vertrekken zou ook vreemd zijn. Ik vond het stoer dat hij er stond."

De kans dat AI-chatbots hallucineren wordt groter als gevraagd wordt om een kort en bondig antwoord. Zo'n prompt zorgt ervoor dat details worden weggelaten en een antwoord feitelijk minder nauwkeurig wordt. Dat blijkt uit een nieuwe studie van het Franse AI-testbedrijf Giskard. Rosanne Peters vertelt erover in deze Tech Update. Volgens de onderzoekers wordt de kans op hallucinaties groter omdat een chatbot bij een beknopter antwoord letterlijk minder ruimte heeft om te herkennen dat het zich op verkeerd terrein begeeft of dat het fouten maakt. Veel populaire en nieuwe modellen zijn in het onderzoek meegenomen, zoals OpenAI's GPT-4o of Anthropic's Claude 3.7 Sonnet. Kortgeleden werd nog bekend dat modellen van OpenAI juist meer zijn gaan hallucineren, ondanks dat er in de wereld van AI hard wordt gewerkt om dit tegen te gaan. My guest this week is Katie Harford Hogue, who joins me to chat about the wonderful album 'Julia Belle: The John Hartford Fiddle Tune Project, Vol. 2'We discuss how the project came about, following the discovery of dozens of John Hartford's notebooks, kept between 1983 and 2001, full of as many as 4,000 original fiddle tunes he'd composed. That led to the book - 'John Hartford's Mammoth Collection of Fiddle Tunes', followed by two albums, the second of which we're exploring today.Co-produced by Katie, with Sharon Gilchrist and Megan Lynch Chowning, 'Julia Belle' features a selection of John's original fiddle tunes, as well as some favourite songs, performed by some of the most beloved female artists in the Hartford-inspired bluegrass scene, including Rachel Baiman, Phoebe Hunt, Ginger Boatwright, Brittany and Natalie Haas, Deanie Richardson, Allison de Groot, Della Mae, The Price Sisters, Uncle Earl, Alison Brown, Missy Raines and Sierra Hull. It's a wonderful record and made for a fascinating conversation. In speaking with my two guests, they shared stories of the three generations of writers in the family including, Irene's mother, Wilma, followed by my guest, Irene and her son Brendan. Brendan is an award winning graphic novel/picture book author and acquiring editor at Blackstone Publishing where he also runs the TV and Film Division even made notice of having his maternal grandmothers published books on his desk. Brendan shares that he was always supported and encouraged by his family with his passion for comic books which he started writing and drawing caricatures at a young age.In time, Irene expressed "that the family was moving in a different direction and the divorce was almost inevitable." Irene continues, "I'm highly emotionally intelligent and I finally found my tribe. I found people who spoke my language." This all occurred once she went back to school for her Masters Degree in Counseling, and later on became a social worker. Brendan raves about his childhood as a latch key kid. He loved growing up in Connecticut. And now as a father, he appreciates even more what it takes for parents to raise their children. And now he's learned even more about what his mother was going through raising the four Deneen children.Both Irene and Brendan claim to be emotionally intelligent-they are very good at listening to others, which Brendan feels that "not many people listen to one another these days." Brendan has always been there for his mom as a sounding board. Irene says " Brendan was my listening post." When she needed to talk, she call Brendan.They have a special bond for sure. They respect one another.Irene Deneen Murray: Irene Deneen Murray grew up in the 50's, an era when a woman could be a nurse, teacher or secretary. She chose teacher because it pleased her mother. In truth the first half of her life was devoted to taking care of or pleasing her mother. At age 50 having raised 4 kids in a Hollywood -worthy suburb, Irene became a divorcee and learned to love being more adventurous than she had previously ever imagined. By then she was working as a social worker having recently earned a Master's Degree in Counseling. Irene loves the natural world and has been a devoted hiker and later a biker, paddler and pretty consistently a practitioner of yoga. She continues these pastimes presently sometimes to the chagrin of her children since they may picture her falling off a cliff, rolling over in her kayak or some other catastrophe. Her children and grandchildren are her greatest achievement. She is a good observer and has insight galore but is sometimes amazed at how each of her children has developed so uniquely. Brendan Deneen is the author of the novelsThe Ninth Circle andThe Chrysalis, as well as the bestselling four-volume Night Night, Groot picture book series for Marvel/Disney.
