Both of these types are driven by ideas. Both can light up a room when the topic is right. But underneath that shared curiosity, two very different strivings are running the show. The Five's striving to feel detached, capable, and competent isn't about being a know-it-all, it's about making sure they have enough before they give anything away. They go inward, go deep, and conserve their energy carefully. The Seven's striving to feel excited and satisfied isn't about being scattered, but rather about staying energized and in motion. They go outward, go wide, and keep moving because slowing down feels like being limited and contained. One goes within to recharge. The other expands to stay fueled up. Put them on the same team and you get either the most idea-generating pairing in the building... or two people who genuinely cannot figure out why the other one works the way they do. The difference usually comes down to whether they understand what's actually driving each other. The Strengths of This Pairing:The Five goes deep; the Seven goes wide; together they cover interesting topics that neither could cover alone, and the best ideas usually live in the overlapSevens draw Fives out of their heads and into momentum; that spark can get a Five's best thinking off the whiteboard and into the worldFives give Sevens something they rarely slow down for: needed rigor, helping stress-test an idea before it's already been announced to the whole companyBoth types are genuinely energized by learning; when they find a topic they're both excited about, the conversation is electric and the output shows itPotential Friction:The Seven's pace can feel reckless to a Five; the Five's pace can feel like hesitation to a Seven, and both interpretations are wrong, but neither person says soThe Seven keeps introducing new ideas before the Five has finished with the last one, and the Five quietly loses trust in the Seven's ability to actually executeThe Five's need for quiet and solitude to do their best thinking can feel like rejection to a Seven who is energized by engagement and presenceBoth types avoid sitting with hard things, but from opposite directions; the Seven pivots away through optimism and activity, the Five retreats into analysis, and difficult conversations end up intellectualized or quietly dropped instead of actually resolvedResources + Links:Learn more about the 3-part Dream Team Momentum program: enneagrammba.com/enneagram-team-workshopsRun your own Enneagram Workshop: enneagrammba.com/enneagram-workshop-kitConnect with Sarah on LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/sarahlynnwallace/Take the 2-question Enneagram quiz: enneagrammba.com/blog/enneagramtestWork with Sarah - workshops, speaking, and team facilitation: enneagrammba.com/enneagram-speakerHave a request for a future episode? Send us Fan MailWholehearted Enneagram: A Year Through the Types | Enneagram Seven | Episode 4 of 4The Enneagram Seven's longing for satisfaction, fullness, and aliveness is real and God-given. But what happens when that longing drives a relationship instead of enriching it? And what does it look like when a Seven finally learns to receive what's already in front of them rather than planning for what's next?In this closing episode of Seven month, Amy sits down with Christa Hardin, Enneagram expert, host of Enneagram in Marriage, fellow Seven, and author of the upcoming The Three Desires, for a conversation that is warm, specific, and full of the kind of insight that only comes from someone who has done deep personal work and spent years helping couples do the same.Together, they unpack how the three Seven subtypes show up very differently in marriage and close relationships, where the Seven's fixation on planning creates friction even when it's well-intentioned, and what it looks like to let God meet the longing rather than letting the longing run the show. Christa also shares her own faith story — including a season of disillusionment with the church, how her husband quietly brought her back in, and why she eventually chose to build her platform inside the Christian space even when it cost her listeners. This one is a beautiful close to Seven month. In this episode:The Seven's core gift in relationship — and the planning fixation that can quietly undermine itHow the three Seven subtypes show up differently in marriage: self-pres, sexual, and socialTime hoarding, family preservation, and the self-preserving Seven who looks like a Five or SixThe sexual Seven's depth and imagination — and the cautionary note that comes with itThe social Seven's nurturing energy — and the blind spot for overcommitmentWhat healthy satisfaction looks like for a Seven in a relationship — vs. what drives a relationship off courseGoing to the Five space — how solitude, gratitude, and reflection anchor the SevenChrista's faith journey — church wounds, a husband who opened the door, and why faith is her foundation for everything she buildsWhat people who love Sevens most need to understand — and the inner critic nobody sees comingA preview of Christa's upcoming book, The Three Desires, releasing February 2027Christa Hardin is the host of Enneagram in Marriage and author of The Three Desires: Reshaping Your Connection, Intimacy, and Teamwork in Your Marriage (February 2027).Connect with Christa! https://www.enneagramandmarriage.com/podcastSupport the showRESOURCES FOR YOU:Join the Waitlist for 1:1 Coaching with Amy Wickshttps://www.simplywholehearted.com/callamywicksNot sure about your Enneagram Type? This is the deep dive on Enneagram Type Sevens. Not the fun, free-spirited, party-loving version. We are going into the strategy underneath the lightness, what Sevens are actually running from, and the depth that most people never see because the system is so good at keeping it hidden. In this episode:The clearest way to tell Seven apart from Three, Two, and EightWhere the snap back to lightness actually comes from, and why it is not what it looks likeWhat gluttony really means for a Seven (it is rarely about food)The defense mechanism that lets Sevens reframe almost anything in secondsWhy the lightness Sevens bring into a room is not a small thing, and why there is even more of it waiting on the other side of what they have been outrunningWho this is for: Anyone who suspects they might be a Seven, anyone who loves a Seven and wants to understand them more deeply, and any Seven who is ready to know that the rest of them is worth meeting. If you are still in the process of figuring out your type, the Self-Typing Toolkit is built for you. So, I'm fascinated by this article in the New Zealand Herald, which argues the All Blacks should be forced to give up business class and travel premium economy instead. The reasoning is the cost of international travel has become so expensive that moving our teams in black around the planet is now costing nearly $87 million a year. Dropping them back a class on the plane would bring that cost down to $80 million a year and nearly wipe out the $7 million loss that New Zealand Rugby just reported for the financial year, which is great maths. But the idea is ridiculous, isn't it? I mean, you can't ask a two-metre-tall man like Fabian Holland to move down from business class. But even the shorter guys - you can't ask them to travel to South Africa in a few weeks, which is literally on the other side of the world. It's close to a full day's travel, even on the most direct route through Perth, and then expect them to get over their jet lag and start playing top-level rugby against the best team in the world. You're asking them to do all of that after they've been sitting upright on a plane for the entire flight. That's impossible. We sometimes disparage rugby as not being a “real job” when we say things like, “Oh, it's not that hard to throw a ball around a paddock,” which may be true - but it's still a job, isn't it? And when you're asking someone to fly that distance for work - not just once but multiple times in a season - it should be in business class. Now, there is an argument about how many people go on these trips and I'm happy to have that conversation. There are apparently more than 40 players and nearly 30 staff heading to South Africa in a few weeks' time, which seems excessive for a game that only requires 15 men on the field at any one time. And by the way, it's not just the All Blacks who do this - who take these enormous squads around the world and put them in business class. It's also the Black Ferns and the Sevens teams. But as for the idea of dropping these players down a class on the plane to bring them down a peg and save some money - I suspect there are people who will look at this and think it's a great idea. And that's the part that fascinates me. How many people out there like the idea that our best rugby players should be forced to sit further down the plane, just like the rest of us? Dan & Billy welcome back longtime friend & Nostalgia Test Podcast Allstar Jeremy Madson for the final episode of the Metallica Eras journey, The Legacy Era: Death Magnetic, Hardwired...to Self-Destruct, & 72 Seasons and put them to the ultimate test—THE NOSTALGIA TEST! “That's an interesting comparison, Metallica to The Beatles [...] The Beatles, depending on how you count them, were only around for, like, six or eight years, right? And they were hyper prolific. They put out all their shit, and that was basically Metallica from however you wanna measure it, from, from Kill 'Em All up to Black or even through Justice, right? They cranked out just, like, absolute pinnacle, God-level material. But instead of, you know, tearing each other down and going off and doing their own thing, they just decided to stick around.” -Jeremy Madson Dan, Billy, & Jeremy talk about the most recent albums of Metallica's long and confusing career, Death Magnetic (2008), Hardwired... to Self-Destruct (2016), and 72 Seasons (2023). They try to figure out why Metallica made these albums, if they should've stopped after Death Magnetic, Metallica's consistent cover art fails since Load, and why does Metallica insist on recording songs longer than 3.5 minutes at this point. Is Death Magnetics' mixing really a problem, especially after Saint Anger or is it just some bulls**t to complain about? Their conversation inevitably returns to the influence of Lars on the band's trajectory after the death of Cliff Burton and how the band might have imploded anyway if Cliff didn't die. At the end of the episode, and this is an epic one so hang on and hangout, the guys give their individual rankings of all the studio albums from worst to best (minus LuLu, Garage Inc, & the live albums) and Jeremy creates an aggregate scoring of all 11 albums. We hope you enjoy this final episode. Grab your concert T's, your closets Metal friends, push yourself through the pit, and let's scream our heads off together. Come chill! It isn't performed or manufactured; it's a genuine gift, a way of seeing possibility when others feel stuck in what is.But underneath the enthusiasm, the packed calendar, and the endless yes is something worth paying attention to: a deep fear of being trapped in pain, a longing for satisfaction that keeps moving the goal line, and a reframing instinct that works beautifully... until Good Friday arrives and it doesn't.In this opening episode of the Wholehearted Enneagram Seven month, Amy sits down with spiritual director Deanna Sudom to lay the foundation for everything that follows. There's so much going on with the number seven, both in general and in tarot's structure and mythology. Across history, and in many cultures there's so many associations with the number seven. There are seven days of the week. Seven continents with seven seas. Seven colors of a rainbow. Seven major stars in the big dipper. Seven deadly sins and virtues. Seven notes in a major/minor scale. Seven chakras. Seven wonders of the ancient and natural world. Seven metals of antiquity. In tarot, seven has a mixed reception. Melissa's represents the sevens as conflict, and impatience. You don't get what you want, yet. You still need to put in the work and wait for it to manifest. Homework: Look up what seven means to you. In fact, her dad helped her make her own Sevens team full of young girls, just so she could keep playing footy. Fast forward to 2020, and Jaime made her NRLW debut with the Dragons and hasn’t looked back since. Chappo's gone on to play in two NRLW grand-finals, represent the Indigenous All-Stars and make 8 state of Origin appearances, including in 2024 when she scored THAT 85m solo try. A proud Kamilaroi woman, Jaime shares what it means to represent her mob, why being a role model for the next generation of women is so important, and what Strength Your Way means to her as a Rockwear ambassador. Time for sporting history, our chance to look back at some of the big moments in sport and celebrate some of the New Zealanders who have changed the game. Shiray Kaka is a Black Ferns Sevens superstar who won gold at the Tokyo Olympics, as well as bronze at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. She also knows about resilience having faced three painful ACL injuries, but she shows off her sense of humour even in the most trying times, which could be why she has one of the largest social media pages of any rugby player in the sport.
The Black Ferns Sevens have secured the World Series title for another year with a fight-back win over Australia in New York today. The victory in the gold medal game extended their winning record this year to 20 games. Sports reporter Felicity Reid spoke to Lisa Owen.
The lads unpack a massive rugby weekend featuring Super Rugby chaos, Blitzboks success, and one of the most entertaining Six Nations rounds in years. We start down south with a Super Rugby check-in after four rounds: the Chiefs quietly looking strong, the Brumbies stumbling late against the Reds, the Crusaders flirting with panic mode, and the Force discovering that scoring points is easy… defending them is not. We also touch on Rugby Australia's latest league convert and what the looming World Cup might mean for player movement. A quick pit stop through Sevens (with the Blitzboks topping the standings) leads into the big news from New Zealand: Dave Rennie vs Jamie Joseph for the All Blacks job and what each candidate could bring to a slightly messy Kiwi setup. A special word for the Lions - 25/26 South African Shield Champions! What an achievement. Then it's time for the main course: Six Nations madness. • Italy shock England for the first time as selection roulette, brain-dead penalties, and general chaos sink Borthwick's men. • Scotland produce one of their best performances in years to hammer France before a late French fightback. • Ireland grind past Wales while Wales continue their slow rebuild. Along the way we discuss the brilliance of Menoncello, the resurgence of Kyle Steyn, whether Ireland have quietly regressed to “occasionally good” territory, and why England's selection decisions might have cost them the tournament. Finally, we preview a wild final weekend where France, Ireland, and Scotland can all still win the Six Nations—and we ask the real question: is there still a way England could somehow end up with the wooden spoon? In this episode, Suzanne Stabile, internationally recognized Enneagram expert and mom of four adult children, shares her personal story and how the Enneagram has shaped her approach to parenting. She explains that the Enneagram isn't about changing who we are, but about understanding how we see the world and choosing how to act with intention. She reminds us that there's no one right way to parent; motherhood requires recognizing differences, extending grace, and embracing our own authentic path.Suzanne dives into the practical applications of the Enneagram in family life, showing how it can transform relationships with your children, your spouse, and other moms. She explains the energy and tendencies of different Enneagram types—from aggressive and dominant types to dependent and withdrawing types—and how understanding these patterns can bring unity instead of conflict. Parenting is never easy, and mistakes are inevitable, but Suzanne emphasizes that grace covers our shortcomings. By using the Enneagram as a tool, we can parent with more awareness, respond with empathy, and honor our own authentic selves while guiding our children with love. Here is some of what we cover: Enneagram Types as Animals: Ones are Worker Bees, Twos are Kangaroos, Threes are Eagles, Fours are Butterflies, Fives are Owls, Sixes are Bunny Rabbits, Sevens are Monkeys, Eights are Lions, and Nines are Turtles. Grace covers the places we fall short Set appropriate priorities: You can't do it all. Be mindful in child-centered families: When the focus is entirely on the children, much can get overlooked, and it often reflects a broader cultural expectation. Abimelech, king of Gerar, recognizes that God has blessed Abraham and sees the importance of being on good terms with such a prominent man. The two come to an agreement intended for themselves and their posterity. That agreement is put to the test when a dispute arises concerning a well of water. The name given to the well, Beersheba, recalls both the oath made there and the prominence of the number seven. Abraham plants a tree there and calls upon the LORD as the Everlasting God. This account of Abimelech and Abraham serves as a reminder that the LORD will bless all nations through Abraham and his offspring. Rev. Rick Jones, Chaplain and Vice President of Spiritual Life at the Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch in Minot, ND, joins host Rev. Timothy Appel to study Genesis 21:22-34. To learn more about Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch, visit dakotaranch.org. “In the Beginning” is a series on Sharper Iron that studies Genesis. The first book of Moses sets the stage for God's entire story of salvation. As we learn the beginning of the story, God prepares us to receive the fulfillment of the story: Jesus Christ, the Offspring of the woman who has crushed our enemy's head. Sharper Iron, hosted by Rev. Timothy Appel, looks at the text of Holy Scripture both in its broad context and its narrow detail, all for the sake of proclaiming Christ crucified and risen for sinners. Two pastors engage with God's Word to sharpen not only their own faith and knowledge, but the faith and knowledge of all who listen. Submit comments or questions to: listener@kfuo.org
