Jesus' first sign takes place at a wedding—transforming water into wine and revealing a deeper story of restoration, dignity, and new life. This teaching explores how that moment points beyond a miracle to the heart of the gospel: Jesus reimagining cleansing, identity, and belonging through his own life and sacrifice. More than something to understand, it's an invitation to experience transformation for ourselves. What might it look like to trust him fully—and “do whatever he tells you”? August 2025, a torrid Bordeaux summer: cue thunderbolt. Lafleur, one of Bordeaux's most acclaimed wines, sensationally quits the Pomerol and Bordeaux appellations. At the heart of the issue: water.Truth is, vines need water to survive and produce good wine. Not too much, nor too little. But climate change has thrown a giant spanner into the works - places that used to have just enough rain, now often aren't getting enough. And it's a particular issue in more traditional areas, like Bordeaux, where local appellation rules often forbid irrigation (or other things like mulching, reducing vine density or changing vine varieties). Hence Lafleur's decision. In this extended episode, we hear the full rationale from Lafleur as they release their 2025 wines, which benefitted from their unique 'soil water correction' technique. With Omri Ram we discuss the reality of climate change, why Lafleur is, 'changing to remain the same', how exactly they're irrigating, the key issue of where the water is coming from, and the future of appellations. The implications are manifold. We also hear from Olivier Tregoat of Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite, and share input from Cornelis Van Leeuwen - both acknowledged soil and water experts, and respected Bordeaux insiders. Finally, we get a different perspective from viticulturist Jaco Engelbrecht in South Africa, where severe drought recently saw Cape Town facing 'Day Zero' (when the water would run out). Jaco works with a stellar client list across both dry-farmed and irrigated vineyards, and shares his expert insights and recommendations. So what is the future of wine when it comes to water? Are we looking at wine Armageddon, with great Bordeaux a thing of the past? Or can human ingenuity and the vine's famous resilience save the day? Thanks for tuning in. What does Jesus turning water into wine at Cana really mean? In this Palm Sunday message from John 2, Tim Lucas helps us see that Jesus' first sign was far more than a miracle of provision. Jesus' first miracle in John 2:1–11 took place at a wedding in Cana of Galilee, where He turned water into wine. This moment revealed His glory and led His disciples to believe in Him. The setting itself is meaningful: His first sign happened at a wedding, underscoring the value of marriage, family, and the relationship between Christ and His church. Scripture begins with a wedding and ultimately points to a final wedding, reflecting God's redemptive plan from beginning to end. Even when life feels empty—when “the wine runs out”—there is hope, because God restores and provides. Mary's instruction, “Do whatever He tells you,” highlights a simple but profound principle: faith expressed through obedience opens the door to experiencing God's work. Rather than trying to control outcomes, believers are called to submit to God's will. The servants at the wedding filled the jars completely and followed Jesus' instructions without hesitation, demonstrating wholehearted obedience. Their actions preceded the miracle; the water became wine as they faithfully did what He asked. This transformation illustrates what happens when people fully follow Christ. It is not merely knowledge about God that leads to change, but active obedience. When Jesus' commands are followed, restoration, healing, and unexpected blessings often emerge—reminders that God is able to bring something better than what came before, saving “the best till now.”Scripture: John 2:1-11Guest Speaker: Ming-Peng Gong

Water into Wine - Jesus' First Miracle (Sermon Series on John) - Sunday, 15th February 2026[Episode 9 - John Chapter 2 KJV]Proverbs 20:1 “Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging, and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.”Isaiah 5:11: “Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that continue until night, till wine inflame them!”Isaiah 28:7 “But they also have erred through wine, and through strong drink are out of the way.”Proverbs 31:4-5: “It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink: Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.”Isaiah 5:22: “Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink.”Leviticus 10:9 (a command to priests): “Do not drink wine nor strong drink, thou, nor thy sons with thee, when ye go into the tabernacle of the congregation, lest ye die.”Habakkuk 2:15: “Woe unto him that giveth his neighbour drink, that puttest thy bottle to him, and makest him drunken also.”If we stood at a table with biblical wine, modern wine, and modern spirits, we'd see a progression of strength. Biblical wine—often diluted—was gentle, maybe 5 to 10 percent( strong drink, diluted 3%). Today's wine, undiluted, stands around 12 to 15 percent, a bit bolder. And then, modern spirits—like vodka at 40 percent—tower over them both. In essence, what began as a mild companion to daily life has evolved into something that demands respect, moderation, and a designated driver1. They have no wine! John 2:1-3 And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there: And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage. And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine.2. What have I to do with you mother?John 2:4  Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.3. My hour is not yet come.John 2:4  Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.4. Do what ever He says.John 2:5  His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.5. The miracleJohn 2:6-8 And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece. Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim. And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it.6. His disciples believed on Him.John 2:11  This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.

What if the story of Jesus turning water into wine isn't really about wine at all?In this episode of Sunday School Remix, Pastor Nate revisits one of the most talked-about (and most misunderstood) miracles in the Gospels: Jesus at the wedding in Cana. On the surface, it feels like a lighthearted story—Jesus keeps the party going. But when you slow down and look at the cultural, historical, and theological layers, something much deeper is happening. This is Jesus' first miracle in the Gospel of John, and it's not flashy on purpose. It happens quietly, in the background, at a wedding on the “wrong side of town.” And what Jesus is really doing isn't showing off power—it's protecting a family from deep, public shame. In a world shaped by honor and shame, running out of wine at a wedding wasn't embarrassing—it was devastating. And Jesus steps in, not to draw attention to himself, but to restore dignity, preserve relationships, and quietly reveal the heart of God.In this episode, Pastor Nate explores:Why Cana and Galilee matter more than we realizeHow weddings connect to Old Testament messianic promisesWhy shame—not wine—is the real crisis in this storyWhat Jesus reveals about himself by using purification jarsWhy “the best wine saved for last” points to the cross and resurrectionThis story reminds us that Jesus doesn't avoid our most vulnerable moments. He meets us there. He redeems what feels ruined. And he shows us, again and again, that Sunday School was just the beginning.

This sign points beyond the miracle itself, showing that Jesus didn’t come to patch up religion, but to usher in something entirely new. The story invites us to trust Jesus enough to “do whatever He tells you,” even when it feels uncomfortable or costly, and to bring Him the places marked by shame, lack, or disappointment. This week we're reading John 2:1-11, the story of Jesus turning water into wine at a wedding -his first miraculous sign in the Gospel of John, and an unusual place to start. Jesus himself objects to his mother's subtle suggestion that he ought to take action when she sees the wine has run out. I mean, come on - the stakes here are not that high. So the party-goers will be disappointed, so the host will be embarrassed.  So? Doesn't Jesus have bigger fish to fry? But in choosing to act, he brings a hospitality beyond our wildest imagination into the story. Now, if Jesus can overcome his hesitation to act, if he's willing to adjust the actual cosmic clock of the kingdom of heaven in the interest of hospitality...  what exactly is it that holds us back from generosity? and what we might be able to overcome?

So grab your Bible, settle in, and experience a transformative encounter with the God who is always with you. TODAY'S DEVOTION: All the signs are pointing to Him. We see it at the wedding feast, where Jesus turns water into wine. And we see it again in the healing of the government official's son—where, simply by Jesus' word, a boy is healed, a fever is gone, and a prayer is answered. Every sign in these stories draws our attention to Christ Himself. All the signs, not just in these chapters but throughout the gospel, are pointing to Him as the source and fulfillment of our hope. As we move through this Advent season, the days leading up to Christmas, may we remember that every sign, every symbol, every hope is pointing to Jesus. He is our wedding feast. He is the One who turns our ordinary water into extraordinary wine. He is the One who responds to the deep cries of our hearts. In Him, our longings meet their answer. The Gospel of John reveals Him, over and over again, in powerful signs and wonders—but those signs are not the point. They are arrows directing us to the One who gives life. During Advent, may our eyes and hearts be open to recognize Him afresh. Emmanuel—God with us—has come. He has not only identified with us by taking on our humanity but has also embraced us so that we might share in the very life and joy He has with the Father, through the Spirit. This is the depth of His love, and in that love, we find our true value—how deeply we are loved and cherished by God. Let us pray for eyes to see the signs and hearts to believe what they show us: that all is pointing to Jesus, to His love, His sacrifice, His inclusion of us into God's very life. That is my prayer for my own soul, for my family, and for you. May we see all the signs, and may they always lead us to Him. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose  through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen.   Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.   And now Lord,  make me an instrument of your peace.  Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon.  Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope.  Where there is darkness, light.  And where there is sadness,  Joy.  Oh Lord grant that I might not seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love.  For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life.  Amen And now as our Lord has taught us we are bold to pray... Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not unto temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Loving God, we give you thanks for restoring us in your image. And nourishing us with spiritual food, now send us forth as forgiven people, healed and renewed, that we may proclaim your love to the world, and continue in the risen life of Christ.  Amen.  OUR WEBSITE: www.dailyradiobible.com We are reading through the New Living Translation.   Leave us a voicemail HERE: https://www.speakpipe.com/dailyradiobible Subscribe to us at YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@Dailyradiobible/featured OTHER PODCASTS: Listen with Apple Podcast DAILY BIBLE FOR KIDS DAILY PSALMS DAILY PROVERBS DAILY LECTIONARY DAILY CHRONOLOGICAL

Jesus performed around 40 miracles recorded in the Bible, and it all started with turning water into wine. But why did Jesus go out of his way to do this, and what can we learn from it now? Today, we begin this new series looking at different miracles of Jesus by diving into John 2:1-11.
