Did Jesus teach us to continually ask in prayer until we get an answer and receive what we ask for? In Luke 18 we take on our final parable in this series with the widow who came to the judge and wouldn’t back stop asking until she received what she asked for. Jesus taught that parable “that men always ought to pray and not lose heart” (Luke 18:1) So where and how does persistence fit in with our prayers and why does Jesus end this parable with “Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?”

Sunday, January 15, 2023 - We're studying the Parable of the Persistent Widow in today's service. Prayer is a mysterious wonder of God, don't you agree? Sometimes it's easy to approach God during our prayer time, and other times it's a battle. Sometimes we can feel the presence of God like He's sitting in the room with us; other times, our prayers don't make it past the ceiling. Can you relate to this? No matter what, it's the way God has ordained for us to communicate with Him. This parable's message is persistence and staying persistent in our prayer time, especially when it seems our prayers are ineffective. Jesus ends the parable with a question, "will He find faith on the earth when He returns?" Faith and prayer are related in the context of prayer as an expression of our faith in God. He is faithful to answer prayers according to His Will and in His perfect time. He knows what's best for us, and He loves us enough to answer our prayers with a "Yes," "Not yet," or even a "No," and it's up to us to trust Him in the process. If we do, that will help us to be found faithful when He returns. Is that your prayer? I trust it is...

Elder Radley teaches us about prayer from Luke 18
In another surprising parable, Jesus uses the story of a wicked, unrighteous man to teach us about the character of God and His willingness to answer our prayers.

Prayer is a vital part of our walk with Christ. It is the foundational communion we have with Him each and every day. In our prayer time, we take time to thank and praise our Father, inquire about what's on our heart and we bring to Him our requests. And of course, when we pray about a request, we want Him to answer it. But what about when we have unanswered prayers? Does that mean He isn't hearing us? No. But it does mean we can look to scripture for how to handle the times when we are waiting upon an answer to our prayers.

The Lord is always right, always faithful, always loving, and never wrong. Book faith requires the Bible and familiarity with it. I know there is a heaven but there is only one place that gives you evidence, the Bible. It's the word of God! Man wouldn't write this because they don't want to point out that man is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked. Salvation is eternal, you cannot lose it. Your salvation gets you into Heaven, but it doesn't help you live the rest of your life. When you got saved, you didn't get smart. Through our lives, we can get smarter and smarter and it begins with the reading the bible. When you open the Bible, you're feeding the spiritual side of your body, it allows the spirit of God to direct you. There are two other faiths that brother Overton talks about.
