In this Father's Day message, we explore the profound significance of the Lord's Prayer, positioned at the very center of Jesus's Sermon on the Mount. This isn't by accident—Jesus intentionally placed prayer at the heart of kingdom living. Discover how the Lord's Prayer is more than just words to recite; it's a transformative practice designed to shape our hearts and align our lives with God's purposes. Jesus gave us this prayer not as religious repetition, but as a proactive spiritual discipline that reminds us who we're talking to, realigns our will with His, and draws us closer to our Heavenly Father. Through each phrase—from recognizing God's holiness to requesting daily provision, from receiving forgiveness to finding deliverance—we learn that prayer isn't primarily about getting something from God, but about getting close to God. It's about knowing the Father, not just knowing the prayer. This message challenges us to move beyond reactive, crisis-driven prayer to an intentional practice that transforms us from the inside out. What would happen if you prayed the Lord's Prayer three times a day for the next week? How might it shape your perspective, your relationships, and your walk with God? Matthew 5-7 (Sermon on the Mount) Matthew 6:9-15 (The Lord's Prayer) Luke 11 (Disciples ask Jesus to teach them to pray) Deuteronomy 6:4-9 (The Shema) Mark 4:1 (Jesus tempted in the wilderness) Mark 9 (Demon cast out through prayer) For more information about our church, visit npfcc.org To help support the ongoing work of NPFCC and our mission partners around the globe, you can make a donation at npfcc.org/give

In this episode, I invite us into a guided time of imaginative prayer — a contemplative practice rooted in the early church mothers and fathers that helps us encounter God in a personal, embodied way. Together, we step into a crowded home in Luke 5, where a group of friends carries someone they love to Jesus. As we enter this scene, we slow down, engage our senses, and notice what stirs within us as we witness their persistence, their love, and the vulnerability of being seen and known. I hope you'll join me as we walk onto the scene of Luke 5:17–20, 24–26 and ask the Spirit to speak to us through this story. Problems in Prayer Part 4 (Luke 11:1–13; 18:1–8) In Luke 11 & 18, Jesus gives us several strong motivations to pray, including an example, a parable and some very clear teaching that challenges our core beliefs about prayer. -Listen to Jesus and be motivated by him today!
Prayer Actually: Honest Answers to Real Questions about Prayer – Luke 11:1 – February 15, 2026 We're wrapping up our six week series on prayer and still, we all have questions about prayer. Many of us spent some time writing those down and submitting them so that this Sunday a panel of pray-ers can respond to them. Come join us to hear what ordinary leaders in the church have to say about your very real (and difficult) questions.
Why is it that God invites us to pray for the needs of others? And what is supposed to happen when people pray prayers of intercession? It could be that as you pray for others in Jesus' name your anxiety level will go down. If you take the focus off of your life, if you stop thinking only of yourself and realize there are people around you who are struggling, your anxiety level will go down. I don't understand exactly how prayer works, I only know Christ wants us to pray and not give up.

Jesus tells a parable about a persistent widow. As we consider the passage, we must recognise a crucial truth: Prayer is for the weak, the needy, and the dependent. Just as a child persistently calls out until heard, we are called to approach our Father with childlike faith, shedding our self-reliance. We will see who needs to pray, how we must pray with persistence, and the powerful reasons we have for praying, encouraged that our righteous God is infinitely better than the unjust judge. 1. Who Needs Prayer? (vv. 1–3a) 2. How We Pray (vv. 3b–6) 3. Reasons to Pray (vv. 7–8)
Advent is a season of longing and hope for Christmas - a time when anticipation fills the air. But what does this waiting reveal about the kind of people Christ is shaping us to be? In this episode of Breaking Bread, Joe Leman and Matt Kaufmann explore how the Lord's prayer stirs a deep desire for Christ's kingdom and transforms our hearts to long for him in and outside of the Christmas season. Show notes: What is Advent? Advent is the season when the Christian church prepares for the celebration of Christ's coming – Christmas. What advantage does advent offer the believer? Every year, the Christian is given an opportunity to wait for, long for and celebrate Christ's coming. This practice can shape in the believer a desire for Christ's coming kingdom. What is the Lord's prayer? Christ gave his disciples the Lord's Prayer (Luke 11) when they asked how they should pray. This prayer has a deep and rich history in the Church both past and present. What advantage does the Lord's prayer offer the believer? The Lord's prayer offers the believer a template for praying and thinking. It can be divided into two sections each having three subparts. Our Father which art in heaven... Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Our Father which art in heaven... Give us this day our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. How does the Lord's prayer enliven advent? The Lord's prayer prepares in us a heart that wants God's kingdom to come and will to be done. How does advent enliven our faith? Advent teaches us that waiting, longing and celebrating Christ's present and coming kingdom is tangible, practical and meaningful.
The first prayer of Christmas was offered by Isaiah to prepare the way of the Messiah now answered in the barren womb of an elderly couple Zacharias and Elizabeth.

Persistence is an admirable quality... ask any toddler. The widow's persistence against an unjust judge in Luke 18 is exactly the persistence needed by Christians today... prayer, prayer and more prayer for justice and for Jesus' second coming. This is not a "change God's mind" or a "God, I'd really like..." kind of prayer, but constant prayer that sets our eyes on that glorious day when Christ returns. This active faith trusts in God's character and plan, and is crucial for maintaining hope in a struggling world.

Jesus teaches us how to pray.
SCRIPTURE: Matthew 6:9 / Luke 11:1-2SHOW NOTES: For encouragement on your spiritual journey, we invite you to visit our ministry website, Discover God's Truth, where you can access additional resources to enrich your Walk with God. Prayer is a vital part of our Christian life. We communicate with our Heavenly Father and seek His wisdom, guidance, and direction. Jesus' disciples traveled with Him for three years. They listened to His teachings, witnessed His miracles, and heard Him pray. Many times, He would go off to pray in the evening or early morning hours. In today's lesson, the disciples ask Jesus to teach them how to pray. He responds with the prayer we often call The Lord's Prayer (Matthew 6:9-15) or The Disciples' Prayer (Luke 11:2-4). This prayer is the example or model Jesus gave to His disciples. One day, Jesus was praying in a certain place. When He finished, one of his disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”He said to them, “When you pray, say: ‘Father, hallowed be Your name.'” Luke 11:1-2 God's "name" reflects His nature. Jesus called God His Father. We also call Him our Heavenly Father to give Him glory and praise. "But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy." 1 Peter 1:15 SONG: "Song of the Saints" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmrbS8pI6HU&list=RDNmrbS8pI6HU&start_radio=1
In this sermon, the Reverend Jacob Smith shares about the grace of prayer.
Parable Of Persistent Prayer - Luke 11 w/ Mo Thieman
Just like the disciples, we ask Jesus, “Lord, teach us to pray.”And Jesus does just that in this text. As Sarah Stenson teaches us, the first half of this text is both how we pray and what we pray. The second half is why we pray. Jesus gives you the words. The Holy Spirit keeps you in faith. The Father gives you His name and His mercy in your baptism. Now God has you where He wants you: you're sending your prayer to the right address. CARE OF SOULS - ADDICTIONIn Care of Souls, a special mini-series podcast from Luther House of Study, Lutheran pastors and theologians come together to explore the deeply personal and pastoral task of preaching to and caring for those struggling with life's challenging situations: addiction, death, family disharmony, and more. Rooted in the theology of the cross and the Lutheran tradition of radical grace, this series offers both theological depth and practical guidance for pastors, church workers, and lay leaders. With conversations, real-life stories, and reflections from the front lines of ministry, Care of Souls equips listeners to enter the broken places of addiction not with easy answers, but with the crucified and risen Christ.Because in the end, it's not about fixing people—it's about preaching the Gospel.Listen to Care of Souls wherever you listen to podcasts or on the Luther House website: Care of Souls - AddictionSING TO THE LORD Martin Luther said, "Next to the word of God, the art of music is the greatest treasure in the world." To understand the importance of hymnody in the Lutheran church, Lars Olson and Mason Van Essen sit down with Zachary Brockhoff to discuss the lectionary's hymns, their meaning and history, and how the music preaches the Gospel.

What does Jesus really mean when He says, "Ask and it will be given to you”? this sermon walks through Luke 11:1–13, unpacking the Parable of the Friend at Midnight and revealing the hidden truths about persistent prayer, God's generous heart, and what it means to pray with "shameless audacity."
