Read more here: Project23 Our text today is Judges 4:1-3: And the people of Israel again did what was evil in the sight of the Lord after Ehud died. And the Lord sold them into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan, who reigned in Hazor. The commander of his army was Sisera, who lived in Harosheth-hagoyim. Then the people of Israel cried out to the Lord for help, for he had 900 chariots of iron, and he oppressed the people of Israel cruelly for twenty years. — Judges 4:1-3 Why do we keep falling back into the same sins we swore we'd never touch again? The story opens with a phrase we've heard before: “The people of Israel again did what was evil in the sight of the Lord.” Notice the timing—after Ehud died. With their leader gone, Israel slipped right back into rebellion. Same song, second verse. This time, God handed them over to Jabin, king of Canaan. And Sisera, his commander, rolled out 900 iron chariots—state-of-the-art war machines. For twenty years, Israel lived under cruel oppression. And finally—they cried out. The cycle repeats: sin → slavery → suffering → supplication → salvation. This is how sin works. Left unchecked, it always drags us back into bondage. Maybe your “Sisera” isn't a general with iron chariots—it's anger, lust, addiction, or pride. You beat it once, but without vigilance, it creeps back, stronger and more ruthless than before. And here's the dangerous part: we learn to live with it. We call it “normal.” We convince ourselves the chains aren't that heavy. But eventually, sin always shows its true colors—it becomes cruel, it takes more than it gives, and it leaves you emptier than before. Don't wait twenty years to cry out to God. Don't wait until the oppression becomes unbearable. Cry out today. The cycle doesn't have to define you, because God's mercy is greater than your failure, and his deliverance is stronger than the grip of your enemy. ASK THIS: What old sin cycle keeps trying to drag me back into bondage? Do I wait until life gets unbearable before I cry out to God? How does the absence of spiritual leadership in my life make me more vulnerable? What's one practical step I can take today to break the cycle? DO THIS: Name your “Sisera”—the sin that keeps coming back. Write it down. Pray over it. And share it with a trusted brother or sister in Christ for accountability. PRAY THIS: Lord, I don't want to repeat the same old sins. Help me cry out to you now, not later, and trust you to break the cycle. Amen. PLAY THIS: "Lord, I Need You."

The story was simple. Perhaps, a little too simple. Rebecca says she pulled into the parking lot of the sports store with her 7 month old son, Emmanuel.  She went to get him from the back but a creepy man walked up to her, said “hola,” knocked her out, and stole her son.  A tragic situation. But what if it never even happened?There are so many questions that don't make sense if her story is true -  Rebecca claims she didn't see the man at all before he knocked her out. She says he came up from behind her. But how did she get punched in the middle of her face where she now has a black eye if he came up behind her? Also if her black eye is from the kidnapper punching her in the face - why are there reports that family members saw her with a black eye weeks before the abduction? How come she keeps using past tense when referring to her son?And why did she making missing child flyers in an effort to find her son but disconnect her phone so that no tips/sightings would actually go through? But most intriguing - how come nobody saw her with a baby that day? Instead of living in the fullness of Christ, they were poor, blind, and exposed. It's a stark warning, not just for churches, but for each one of us. The seduction of self-reliance, of valuing our own achievements or resources, quietly ushers Jesus out of the center of our lives and our communities. We imagine that we are thriving, but we have substituted what is truly life for something far less—a life apart from Christ. But the beauty of this passage is the persistence of Jesus. He doesn't give up on the church, and he doesn't give up on any of us. Even after being left outside, he doesn't turn away or condemn. He stands at the door and knocks, inviting us to open up—to let him in, to sit down and share a meal with him as friends. His invitation calls us out of our delusions of sufficiency and into the rich, abundant union that only he can give. He wants to open our eyes—so that we see the depth of our need and the greatness of his love. He stands ready to meet us, even when we have shut him out. So if you sense there's a door in your life, your heart, or your community that you've closed to Jesus, hear his knocking. Heed his invitation to return. Let him in, so that you may receive the true riches of his presence, the fullness of life found in him. That's a prayer I have for my own soul. That's a prayer I have for my family, for my wife and my daughters and my son. And that's a prayer I have for you. May it be so. This spirit of self-sufficiency had seeped into their spiritual lives, creating a dangerous disconnect between perception and reality. While they saw themselves as "rich and prosperous, needing nothing," Christ diagnosed them as "wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked."Many scholars identify our current era as the "Laodicean age" of church history. Though not all congregations fall into this category, those in prosperous Western nations face unique spiritual dangers. As we explore in this episode, prosperity can destroy our spiritual lives faster than poverty – a truth King David understood when he prayed for neither too much wealth (lest he forget God) nor too little (lest he be driven to sin). That is why you are on this earth: to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with those who haven't heard or accepted it!
