When life gets hard—really hard—it can be tempting to throw in the towel. But today you're going to hear an incredibly powerful testimony of why you shouldn't.  Pastor Shawn Johnson talks about how he received a devastating brain disease diagnosis that left him wrestling with despair, doubt, and the desire to give up on everything, including his faith and his future. But through vulnerability, community, and choosing to worship even in the middle of his pain, Shawn discovered that joy can coexist with suffering. He'll give you three reasons to keep fighting as well as seven strategies for resilience to help you hold on to hope when everything in you wants to let go. You'll learn how to balance vulnerability with strength, humility with courage, and faith with perseverance—so one day you can look back and say, "Thank God I didn't give up, because look what God has done!" This was such a deeply meaningful conversation that I decided to end this episode by singing over you a song I wrote called "Take Me to the Cross," because that's the place we all need most.   SHOW NOTES: 413Podcast.com/379  Enter to win the GIVEAWAY and read the episode TRANSCRIPT in the show notes. We don't believe in that mindset, and we honestly worry and are concerned for those who feel like they will be able to get right b ack into the swing of things "easily". The Man Who Wouldn't Give Up #RTTBROS #Nightlight"And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not." — Galatians 6:9I want to tell you about a man named William Carey, and I promise you, his story will encourage you if you're feeling like giving up on something God's called you to do.Back in the late 1700s, Carey felt called to be a missionary to India. Now, you have to understand, this was a radical idea at the time. The church leadership told him, "If God wants to save the heathen, He'll do it without your help." But Carey couldn't shake the calling. He finally made it to India in 1793, and here's where it gets interesting. He worked for seven years, seven long years, before he saw his first convert. Can you imagine that? Seven years of learning the language, translating Scripture, preaching, teaching, and not one single person came to Christ. Most of us would've packed our bags and headed home, convinced we'd missed God's voice. But Carey had a motto that kept him going: "Expect great things from God; attempt great things for God." He didn't let the wait discourage him from the work. And by the time his ministry ended, he'd translated the Bible into over forty different languages and dialects, founded a college, and seen thousands come to faith in Christ. Here's what strikes me about Carey's story, and I'm too soon old and too late smart on this one: faithfulness isn't measured by immediate results. It's measured by obedience over time.We live in a world of instant everything. Instant coffee, instant messages, instant results. But God's kingdom doesn't usually work that way. Sometimes He calls us to plant seeds we won't see grow. Sometimes He asks us to be faithful in the waiting, in the season when nothing seems to be happening.Paul tells us, "And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not" (Galatians 6:9). Notice he says "in due season," not "in our preferred timeline."Maybe you're in a season right now where you've been faithful, you've been obedient, but you're not seeing the fruit you expected. Don't quit. Don't grow weary. Your seven years might be preparing you for a harvest you can't even imagine yet.Let's pray: Lord, give us the endurance to be faithful even when we can't see the fruit. Help us trust Your timing and keep doing what You've called us to do. So by Peter Gabriel: How an Avant-Rock Outsider Made a Pop Classic

Peter Gabriel's So is one of the most iconic art-pop albums of the 1980s, a record that blends emotional vulnerability, ambitious production, and global musical influences into something both personal and cinematic. After years of being known as the “enigmatic” former Genesis frontman—dabbling in experimental textures, avant-rock, and political themes—Gabriel pivoted toward a more accessible yet deeply crafted sound with So. The result was a creative crossroads where pop hooks met worldbeat rhythms, and cutting-edge studio techniques met soulful songwriting. At its heart, So is an album about connection—romantic, spiritual, and human. You can hear it in the yearning “In Your Eyes,” the playful and sensual “Sledgehammer,” the haunted introspection of “Red Rain,” and the grief-stricken storytelling of “Don't Give Up,” his duet with Kate Bush. The album pairs emotional depth with sonic brilliance: meticulously layered percussion, innovative sampling, and a wide palette of instruments from horns to synthesizers to traditional African rhythms. So also marked Gabriel's breakthrough into the mainstream, supported by visually groundbreaking music videos—especially “Sledgehammer,” which became a cultural phenomenon thanks to its stop-motion innovation. But the album remains far more than its singles. Its sequencing, flow, and emotional arc make it a cohesive, immersive listen that still feels fresh decades later. In short: So is a rare achievement—an art-rock album that became a pop classic without compromising its intelligence, experimentation, or emotional honesty. If you're exploring the most enduring albums of the '80s, this one is essential.

You have to make these shared decisions with your patient. You can't blindly take the shotgun approach, give the treatment, and be done with it. You have to factor in quality of life. A group of Democrat lawmakers with military backgrounds released a video urging service members to "refuse illegal orders," sparking backlash from conservatives who claim it's a call to defy President Trump. Posted by Sen. Elissa Slotkin, the video warns of threats to the Constitution "from right here at home." Slotkin and colleagues have also introduced legislation to limit Trump's authority over the National Guard and military actions, but that context is absent from the video titled "Don't Give Up the Ship."See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Number one Funkateer Bootsy Collins takes us to Funk University! From his days in James Brown's group, to his work with Parliament/Funkadelic and Booty's Rubber Band, to his recent single that raises awareness about domestic violence, "the world's only rhinestone rock-star doll" tears the roof off the sucker and breaks it all down for us. Songcraft wants the funk!  PART ONE:Paul and Scott discuss particularly recognizable bassists and chat about their expectations of what they thought Bootsy would be like before he landed the mother ship on Songcraft. PART TWO:Our in-depth conversation with the legendary Bootsy CollinsABOUT BOOTSY COLLINS:Named among the top 5 bassists of all time by Rolling Stone magazine, Bootsy Collins is one of funk and R&B's most iconic musicians, singers, frontmen, producers, and characters. He started out playing sessions for King Records in his hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio, then kickstarted his career with James Brown's backup band, The J.B.'s. He was credited as a songwriter on classic J.B.'s songs such as “The Grunt” and “These Are the J.B.'s.” In 1972, he joined George Clinton's Parliament-Funkadelic, and is a co-writer of classics such as “Up for the Down Stroke,” “Chocolate City,” “P-Funk (Wants to Get Funked Up),” “Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof Off the Sucker),” “Mothership Connection,” “Dr. Funkenstein,” and “Flash Light.” In 1976, Bootsy's Rubber Band captivated audiences with his flashy star-shaped glasses and bass, and hits such as “I'd Rather Be With You” and the chart-topping “Bootzilla.” Since then, Bootsy has launched Bootzilla Productions and Funk University to help mentor younger creatives to reach their full potential. His inescapable influence on pop culture can be heard in the music of Snoop Dogg, Outkast, Dr. Dre, Flea of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rick James, Prince, Daft Punk, Primus, Thundercat, and in Childish Gambino's Grammy-winning platinum hit “Redbone,” which paid homage to “I'd Rather Be With You.” Bootsy is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and the National Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame.
