From the vaults: Scott and Alison Stratten talked with Association Chat for the Association Chat Book Club in December about their book, The Jackass Whisperer: How to Deal With the Worst People at Work, at Home, and Online—Even When the Jackass Is You. Scott and Alison are co-authors of several best-selling business books, including UnBranding: 100 Branding Lessons for the Age of Disruption, UnMarketing: Stop Marketing. Start Engaging, and The Book of Business (UnAwesome). They're also co-owners of UnMarketing Inc., and co-hosts of The UnPodcast. Formerly a music industry marketer, national sales training manager, and a professor at the Sheridan College School of Business, Scott ran his "UnAgency" for a nearly a decade before focusing on speaking about social media and marketing, at events, for companies, such as PepsiCo, Adobe, Red Cross, Cirque du Soleil, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Fidelity Investments. I invited Scott and Alison to join me on the Association Chat Podcast to discuss The Jackass Whisperer, and how the book, despite its light-hearted title, has valuable lessons to teach about empathy, compassion, and cooperation.

Today on The Police Podcast, I’m joined by Scott Stratten. Scott is best known online by his 176K Twitter Followers as @UnMarketing. I have known Scott for the better part of 5 years and have been able to tap into his brain on several occasions. He provides honest opinions and backs them up with facts which is no doubt a big part of his success in making the marketing world take notice of his skills in calling out bad examples of marketing and helping those businesses transform into solid, customer centric businesses. Scott and I talk about marketing, authenticity, building realtionships, social currency and the secrets to great communication along with his new book, UnSelling. Scott shared two awesome quotes in the episode; You must be the change you wish to see in the world - Ghandi Heres to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. Theyre not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you cant do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do. - Attibuted to Steve Jobs You can find Scott: TwitterFacebookWebsiteand on his own Podcast that he co-hosts with his online and IRL partner, Alison Kramer (also an awesome follow).
