Sierra Howard of the I Don't Do Budgets Podcast talks about how she went from 9k in debt to secretly paying it all off. Sierra talks about how she started developing a really bad spending habit in college and how it got out of control. It got to the point where she was actually embarrassed to talk to her partner about how much debt she was in. I'm so happy she talked about this because so many of us hide our debt in shame instead of bringing it out to light. Sierra took everything she learned and now helps people who are in a similar position as her get out of debt and grow their savings and investment portfolio. Then, she started the I Don't Do Budgets podcast to share stories, advice, and insight into how we look at money. Here's what we talk about: How money is talked about in the Black Community The moment she realized she needed to do something about her debt How her experience has allowed her to make a business out of helping other people to get out of debt Why Sierra doesn't do budgets How going into Sephora without a plan is always a Reach out! This week, I chatted with Sierra of @idontdobudgets on how she purchased her first property with seller financing. She dropped a lot of gems and definitely changed my perspective on financing options and the power of multi-units.We discussed:What seller financing isThe importance of hiring and retaining good contractorsUtilizing your community to find great dealsThe #1 resource she used to jumpstart her real estate investing journeyWebsite: www.idontdobudgets.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/idontdobudgets/-- Sierra Howard's bio:Sierra K. Howard is a millennial finance coach who is the founder of I Don't Do Budgets Podcast. Upon graduating college and starting her full-time job, Sierra was living paycheck to paycheck with a salary job. She had never been taught about how to manage money and learned poor money habits growing up. After six months of living paycheck to paycheck after college, she started to work on her mindset, money habits, and paying off debt. She tried everything to get my money on track, including budgeting. After a while, she realized that budgeting felt like a diet and eventually she would always revert to her bad money habits, which is why she started I Don't Do Budgets. She then realized that there were others just like her who had graduated college with no knowledge of how to properly manage money. This led to the creation of her company Young Wild and Financially Free which has evolved to I Don't Do Budgets. Welcome Milk and Money Honeys! Today’s guest is Sierra Howard, host of the I Don’t Do Budgets podcast. I Don’t Do Budgets breaks the traditional ways of budgeting and teaches Millennials how to build wealth beyond a 9-5! Sierra knows a thing or two about this, as she was able to raise her credit score from the low 500’s to the healthy 700’s in just nine months! Here is the drip: Know the major things that impact your credit score: payment history, credit utilization, and age of credit. Those three things make up 80% of your credit score! Good payment history is easy: just make your payments in on time To impact your credit utilization, use 10% or less of your credit limit so the bureaus know that you know how to manage your money. Age of credit is tough to influence on your own, but if someone lets you become an authorized user on their card, it can help. Check your credit score here: https://www.myfico.com/credit-education/whats-in-your-credit-score Thanks for listening! If you enjoyed this episode, rate, review and subscribe. Are you planning to take out a loan to cover the cost of your wedding? Should you have a joint bank account with your partner? Questions about love and money plague all relationships. Discussing finances is complicated, raising multiple concerns and questions; and the answers are not simple.
