Lil Dicky & Gata Preview The NBA Playoffs With Gil's Arena as the Legendary rapper turned TV Star joins Gil's Arena & The Gil's Arena Crew to react to a wild weekend of NBA action and break down the NBA Playoff Picture that finally came together. They open things up by reacting to an overtime thriller between the Los Angeles Clippers & Golden State Warriors where Kawhi Leonard & James Harden overcame Steph Curry & The Warriors to prove they may be the most dangerous team in the Western Conference. They debate if the Clippers finally have what it takes to dispel their postseason demons and make a deep run and discuss if the Warriors place in the play-in tournament is a good or bad thing for Steph Curry's squad. Next, they react to the Los Angeles Lakers clinching the 3rd seed in the West and debate if this 50 win team fueled by Luka Doncic & x-factor Austin Reaves has enough juice to get LeBron James back to the NBA Finals. Then, Lil Dicky gets real on his top 5 hoopers turned rappers and gives advice to LiAngelo Ball after his viral hit Tweaker put him on the map before discussing the disappointing season for Joel Embiid and his Philadelphia 76ers. Finally, Gil & The Crew react to another weekend of discourse surrounding Ja Morant's grenade celebration and debate if the Memphis Grizzlies superstar needs to change his ways. Jewish stars have longed faced pressure to downplay Jewish identity for fear of alienating wider audiences. But unexpectedly, since the 2000s, many millennial Jewish stars have won stellar success while spotlighting (rather than muting) Jewish identity. In Millennial Jewish Stars: Navigating Racial Antisemitism, Masculinity, and White Supremacy (NYU Press, 2024), Jonathan Branfman offers case studies on six top millennial Jewish stars: the biracial rap superstar Drake, comedic rapper Lil Dicky, TV comedy duo Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer, “man-baby” film star Seth Rogen, and chiseled film star Zac Efron. Branfman argues that despite their differences, each star's success depends on how they navigate racial antisemitism: the historical notion that Jews are physically inferior to Christians. Each star especially navigates racial stigmas about Jewish masculinity―stigmas that depict Jewish men as emasculated, Jewish women as masculinized, and both as sexually perverse. By embracing, deflecting, or satirizing these stigmas, each star comes to symbolize national hopes and fears about all kinds of hot-button issues. For instance, by putting a cuter twist on stereotypes of Jewish emasculation, Seth Rogen plays soft man-babies who dramatize (and then resolve) popular anxieties about modern fatherhood. This knack for channeling national dreams and doubts is what makes each star so unexpectedly marketable. In turn, examining how each star navigates racial antisemitism onscreen makes it easier to pinpoint how antisemitism, white privilege, and color-based racism interact in the real world. Jonathan Branfman is the Eli Reinhard Postdoctoral Fellow in Jewish Studies at Stanford University. Schneur Zalman Newfield is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Borough of Manhattan Community College, City University of New York, and the author of Degrees of Separation: Identity Formation While Leaving Ultra-Orthodox Judaism (Temple University Press, 2020). Barry and Abigail discuss Drag by k.d. lang and sample Theoretical Jam, Maduro Brown Ale, and Fancy Papers™ from Cigar City Brewing in Tampa, Florida. Listen to the original versions of the songs that k.d. lang covered on this album! Barry compared the ominous-sounding outro of Don't Smoke In Bed to Goldfinger by Shirley Bassey. We played a bit of The Hollies' version (in Barry's eyes, the definitive version) of The Air That I Breathe. We discussed in depth the lyrics of Steve Miller Band's The Joker, eventually going on a tangent that led to Clap For the Wolfman by The Guess Who and The Letter by The Medallions. Abigail compared k.d. lang's vocal performance in Your Smoke Screen to Shana Cleveland's performance on Manzanita. Barry compared the song to Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd. Congratulations to Jeff “Jafo” Shettler! At time of episode release, his bonus episode, Bonus: Pink Floyd Leftovers (Pink Floyd and brewLAB Leftovers) is our most listened-to episode of all time. We discussed the incredible backstory of Till the Heart Caves In, which is a “cover” of a Roy Orbison song that was never recorded. lang and Orbison had a previous connection as lang performed in Roy Orbison & Friends - A Black and White Night in 1988. Buckle up for a wild ride with your hosts and the ever-entertaining Joe as we navigate through the turbulent waters of business realities and shipping woes. Ever wondered how a simple mistake in quality control can snowball into a financial nightmare? We've lived it, and we're laying bare the gritty tales of when business smarts collide with real-world pressures. Plus, we're dissecting the fallout from Lil Dicky's hot-topic music video, drawing parallels to the current artist landscape, and sprinkling in our take on the nuances of time management, from waiting for that friend who's never on time to the epic time-sink of personal beauty routines. Strap in for a no-holds-barred conversation that touches on life's most debated topics, like bathroom etiquette versus hygiene habits that will have you nodding in agreement or laughing in disbelief. We're reminiscing about the days of lavish spending and how our priorities have shifted with time – from blowing cash on nightlife to more thoughtful financial choices. It's an honest look into the changing tides of our spending habits, wrapped up with personal anecdotes that'll have you questioning your own daily rituals. We don't shy away from the heavier topics either; join us as we thread the needle between personal beliefs, societal norms, and the ever-present balance of religion in contemporary scenarios. From the intricacies of Christian doctrine to the conundrums of home security and self-defense, we're unpacking the delicate dance of living a principled life in an imperfect world. Throw in our musings on the influencer hustle, the pressures on law enforcement, and the shockwaves from P Diddy's controversial past, and you've got yourself an episode that's as enlightening as it is entertaining. In this BFE (beer-free episode), Barry, Abigail, and special guest Ian Rees (previously interviewed on Bonus: Friendship Induced Pod) discuss Ian's Virtual Jukebox submission, Diorama by Silverchair. Barry continually references Silverchair's debut album Frogstomp (not also known as Frogstamp). Abigail and Barry both compared the oeuvre of this album to that of Astoria by Marianas Trench, discussed on Cascadia (Marianas Trench and Cascade Brewing), and Electro-Shock Blues by Eels, discussed on Owlectro-Shock Brews [Eels and Dangerous Minds Brewing Co.). Silverchair worked with composer Van Dyke Parks on this album. In a twist we could not have predicted, we discovered some relevant information about Parks after recording that did not come up in our conversation. Per Wikipedia, Parks wrote “‘City of Lights,' ‘It's a “B” Movie,' ‘Cutting Edge,' and ‘Worthless,' all of which were used in the film The Brave Little Toaster, directed by Jerry Rees.[citation needed].” Well, we'll be the confirmatory citation - Jerry Rees is Ian's dad! However, during the episode, we did discuss Parks' work with The Beach Boys on their unfinished album Smile and his musically eclectic album Song Cycle. Did you catch Barry's weekly Coriolis force joke? Barry compared the guitar sound in Angie by The Rolling Stones to that in World Upon Your Shoulders. Abigail pointed out that had this not been a BFE, Green Bench would have been the perfect brewery to pair with Silverchair. We discussed the trend of including a hidden track after a long silence on a CD (in reference to “Outro,” the hidden track after After All These Years). We referenced I Have Seen the Rain (feat. James T. Moore) by P!nk, Her Majesty by The Beatles, and Mercy, Sweet Moan by The Black Crowes as comparative examples. Reddit has also discussed this issue at length. Wikipedia maintains a list of albums containing a hidden track. After minimal research, we believe the mysterious album Ian referenced with multiple silent tracks was Sleepify by Vulfpeck. We once again plugged Matty C's multimedia project What Am I Making. We closed by playing Ian's new single, Say Goodbye. Watch the trippy music video! Say Goodbye is available for purchase on iTunes and Amazon. Ian has an abundance of music available on Spotify and YouTube. We especially recommend Panic Induced Love (the album we reviewed on Bonus: Friendship Induced Pod), his Building A Song Series, and his Bo Burnham-inspired video “Why Do I Eat So Much Cheese?”. Up next… A Fever You Can't Sweat Out by Panic! At the Disco Ian also randomly selected our next Jukebox episode, Professional Rapper by Lil Dicky, submitted by Dinos Korominas. Another caller wants Jeff Van Gundy to coach the Nets. Jerry returns for an update but first we talked about Billy Joel releasing a new song on February 1. Billy Joel's house is for sale for $49 million. We remembered the virtual Boomer & Gio BBQ we gave away during covid. Jerry starts with the Knicks beating the Nets in what felt like a Knicks home game in Brooklyn. The Bucks fired Adrian Griffin and it's looking like Doc Rivers will replace him. Jerry has clips from the Kelce brothers podcast and Jason's wife asked him to behave in front of Taylor Swift. John Harbaugh wants the fans to be loud. Is Belichick to the Falcons gaining or losing momentum? In the final segment of the hour, reports are the Chargers are within striking distance of signing Jim Harbaugh. The thing that could be holding up Belichick to the Falcons could be how much of the staff and front office Belichick wants to blow out.

There are rumors that Tyreek Hill filed for divorce after just 76 days. He claims it's not true, but public records say it is. Boomer wonders if Tyreek is turning into Antonio Brown. Jerry returns for another update and starts with the Knicks beating the Nets in Brooklyn. The Milwaukee Bucks fired their head coach, Adrian Griffin, and Doc Rivers is expected to take over. Stephen A. Smith was on with Howard Stern and he wants to debate Donald Trump. Chris Russo talked about ‘wee wee's in the middle of the night'. Aaron Boone was on with Evan and Tiki yesterday. He wants Giancarlo Stanton to change his body type. Hour 1 Gio had a ‘perma-smile' on his face watching the Knicks beat the Nets at what felt like a Knicks home game in Brooklyn. The Milwaukee Bucks fired their head coach Adrian Griffin, even though they were 30-13. Their defense has not been very good and they wanted a veteran coach so they are bringing in Doc Rivers. We are seeing the best version of Julius Randle right now and it's all thanks to Jalen Brunson. Gio was invited by the afternoon show to go to last night's game but his wife is sick so he had to stay home. He would have loved to see the Nets lose while sitting next to Evan Roberts. Jerry is here for his first update and wants the Nets to move someplace where people will care about them. Jerry was disgusted by their performance. Jerry is annoyed by Boomer's hatred of the Nets. Boomer said if he's on the air for another 17 years, by then the Nets will be extinct. Jerry has the sound from last night's battle in Brooklyn. Shannon Sharpe to Ochocinco: ‘that's why your head looks like shaved monkey nuts'. In the final segment of the hour, Ochocinco used to call Marvin Lewis in the middle of the night just to say ‘I'm open' and then he would hang up. Gio tells the story of an obese woman who bought 2 seats on the plane and another passenger wanted to put her baby there.  Hour 2 Sauce Gardner wants Calvin Ridley and Tee Higgins on the Jets. At least that's what he said on Twitter. I wonder how that will sit with the wide receivers in the locker room. Boomer said it creates unnecessary drama. The Giants need playmakers, and a lot of them. What will the Giants do with their pick at 6? In the final segment of the hour, Gio went through a lot of trouble to be able to do the Lil' Dicky Show for somebody at Audacy, and it was canceled at the last minute.  Hour 3 Boomer & Gio have a chalk talk event with Bill Cowher at Teller's tomorrow night. The town is abuzz with talk of Cowher maybe stopping by the Portly Villager beforehand. A caller wants us to have billboards for the show. Another caller said Lil' Dicky was at the Lakers game when he was supposed to be talking to Gio. Hour 4 Last night the Knicks beat the Nets and it felt like a home game for the Knicks in Brooklyn. Gio loves the rivalry now because it's dominated by the Knicks, after Nets fans got cocky when they got Kevin Durant a few years back. This is always going to be a Knicks town. Has to be 95% Knicks fans and 5% Nets around here. The Knicks have made regular season basketball exciting again. And they're doing it consistently. We then talked about the times when Gio would go to the NFL draft when it was in NYC. Jerry is here for his final update of the day and starts with the sounds of the Knicks beating the Nets in Brooklyn. Aaron Boone was on with Evan and Tiki and he talked about Giancarlo Stanton's body composition. He was also asked about Brian Cashman's rant where he was dropping F-bombs. We also talked about how cool it must be to be Boomer at WFAN. The Moment of The Day involves Stephen A. Smith's wanting to debate Donald Trump. In the final segment of the show, there's an odd story out of Kansas City where friends were watching the Chiefs game. Some went outside and died, maybe due to the cold. The guy who lived there was sleeping on his couch for 2 days before realizing his friends were dead outside. We also took a call about Jalen Brunson and the Knicks

Boomer is headed to Baltimore this weekend for a live NFL Today from the AFC Championship game. Boomer said Lamar Jackson is a different guy this year and has enormous confidence. Gio said you have to beat Patrick Mahomes if you are to be taken seriously. The Ravens beat a bunch of winning teams this season. Gio will not go into next football season with any hope for the Giants or Jets. Boomer wonders if the Jets will get a bunch of prime time games again this year. Jerry returns for an update but first Gio said he's a guest on something tonight with Lil Dicky. Gio said there's too many famous people these days. Jerry starts with Matt LaFleur saying Tom Rinaldi took a joke about his kicker seriously and now he has to do damage control. We heard the Korean broadcast of the Bills ‘Wide Right part 2'. They sound like Matt Loughlin and Chico Resch on the Devils calls. Joel Embiid scored 70 points last night. In the final segment of the hour, we heard Gio stumble through a call where he found out he was interviewing a boxer and Boomer found a video of Lil Dicky saying he's a clam or something. We then talked about clams. That's right, clams.

Hour 1 Rex Ryan said he wouldn't be surprised if the Bills fired Sean McDermott and brought in Bill Belichick. This is probably just a hot take by Rex. Boomer would keep McDermott and get some wide receivers for Josh Allen and get back all of the defensive players that got hurt. Allen really likes McDermott, so Boomer said he's not breaking that up. Sources are saying that Arthur Blank wants Bill Belichick in Atlanta, but the front office doesn't want him. Boomer wonders why Belichick wouldn't consider a year off. Maybe the Giants job will be open after next season. Jerry is here for his first update of the day but first Boomer is worried about Jerry because he has a headache. Jerry started with Joel Embiid scoring 70 points last night and Karl Anthony-Towns scoring 62. DeMeco Ryans talked about CJ Stroud's rookie season. Todd Bowles was asked about not taking a timeout late in the game. Ochocinco does not know how to say ‘cognac'. In the final segment of the hour, Ty Law was on with Dan Patrick and said that before Belichick got to New England, players would drink whiskey out of Mike Vrabel's flask. ‘There's some whacky dudes on every team' according to Boomer.  Hour 2 Boomer is headed to Baltimore this weekend for a live NFL Today from the AFC Championship game. In the final segment of the hour, we heard Gio stumble through a call where he found out he was interviewing a boxer and Boomer found a video of Lil Dicky saying he's a clam or something. We then talked about clams. That's right, clams.  Hour 3 People don't seem to be giving the Lions much of a chance against the Niners, though most of the country will be rooting for them. Jared Goff tends to throw interceptions on the road, which leads to them losing games. Boomer said Brock Purdy has improved as the season went on, but he did not look good in a handful of games including against Baltimore. Gio doesn't want the Lions to have success because he's a Vikings fan and they're in the same division. Evan Roberts doesn't want the Lions in the Super Bowl because that's another team that would have gotten over the hump before the Jets. Boomer roots for people, not franchises. He's rooting for Dan Campbell and Jared Goff. Boomer said Kyle Shanahan is ‘a little swarmy'. Gio thinks he looks like an over the hill skateboard guy and someone who would be friends with Spike. Jerry returns for an update and starts with Dan Campbell screaming about knocking off hot teams. John Harbaugh said he's not been distracted and won't be distracted by Taylor Swift. Joel Embiid scored 70 points last night and Karl Anthony-Towns scored 62. In the final segment of the hour, Snoop Dogg said he called Pete Carroll right after he was fired and Pete told him he wanted to coach the Chargers but they didn't want him. Bill Belichick and Kirk Cousins to the Falcons could work. If the Chiefs make it to the Super Bowl, could Taylor Swift go from Tokyo to Vegas and then back to Australia for her shows? Boomer said Travis Kelce needs to propose on the postgame show of the Super Bowl if the Chiefs win.  Hour 4 Rex Ryan said he wouldn't be surprised if the Bills moved on from Sean McDermott in favor of Bill Belichick. We don't see that happening. The Bills had a lot of injuries on defense and they do need another wide receiver. Boomer said the Bills have a good thing going and you can't go to the Super Bowl every season. He needs a number one wide receiver because Stef Diggs isn't it anymore. Jerry returns for his final update of the day and starts with Joel Embiid scoring 70 points last night and Jerry wonders if it's more impressive than Wilt's 100 in his day. Karl Anthony-Towns scored 62 last night as well. Gio heard Marco Balletti on the air and he hasn't been out to dinner in 25 years and wasn't aware that lemon could be in a dessert. He also doesn't like steak. The Penguins scored a goal against themselves. The Moment of The Day involves the Korean broadcast of the Bills missed FG and the Devils radio broadcasters. In the final segment of the show, Boomer and Gio have a ‘chalk talk' at Tellers on Thursday night with Bill Cowher. They are going to be close to Gio's house, maybe they all hang out there. Gio said this time of year it's a petri dish of viruses.
