Hey there, Adventurers! This episode is a 20 minute "catch up" on what's been happening with the podcast, the ride, the merch, the pandemic, and Skipper Kyle. It's a non-interview episode where Kyle just chats at the microphone. So, be forewarned. Keep in touch with us, more episodes coming as we get them put together. (So, our normal thing we've been doing for 8 years)
Hey there, Adventurekateers! Your old pal Skipper Kyle here, with another episode of Skippertainment for you, to help keep you through these quarantined times... Today we are going to chat with a contemporary of mine, and someone I've been trying to get onto the show for a few years. Like 8. Skipper Jon Gruber! Jon was a Skipper, Trainer, and Lead in the late 00's to early Teens, and he was always a positive and energetic force on the docks. I loved working with him, and thought he would have some fun stories, and he did not disappoint. We know that this is a challenging time for everyone, and we appreciate the Skipper community and how supportive it has been. Thanks for all the kind Emails and words, and we are going to work on continuing to bring you episodes as often as we can.
The Sweep Spot - Former Disneyland Cast Members Talking Disneyland
In this episode we welcome back Skipper Kyle to the podcast to talk about his most recent time working at Disneyland on the Jungle Cruise, and lots more! Kyle was a guest on our show on episode 75 and 128, Kyle is also the host of The Jungle Crews Podcast. Plus the latest in the Disneyland resort Current Events. Two years ago we wrapped up the podcast and season 6 with my looking back over the prior 6 years of Skippertainment. This is the last episode in our "Rerun Recap", which has been going on since I rejoined Disney in 2017. After this I don't have any excuses, and we'll be bringing you new episodes and content soon. Thanks for all the continuing support. It's going to be an exciting year of Jungle Cruise movies and news, and we're going to be bringing you some great stories. Kungaloosh! Skipper Kyle
Well, hey there Skips and Skipperettes from all across the wild and untamed lands known only as Internetland. Welcome back to Tales from the Jungle Cruise. What a long, strange trip it's been. Two years back in the Jungle at Disneyland, and now I've parted ways again with a place that means so much to me. It was a tough decision, and a lot of people had asked me questions about my time back at the park, the state of the podcast, the Jungle Cruise movie, and so many other questions. I invite good friend Skipper Freddy Martin to the podcast to chat about all of that, and to bring us back into the podcast mode. We did put up a 30 minute video of the first part of our recording. We may be doing more recording on video, and I am going to put all 150 episodes of the audio podcast up on YouTube as well. Well, it's great to be back, and it's going to take me a while to ramp back up, but it's a great journey and I'm glad you are taking it with me. Skipper Kyle
So, the guest from these next two episodes has really seen his career explode in the 2 years since we recorded with him. From being a host of a nationally broadcast video game show to being a visible brand ambassador and influencer within the world of fandom, Skipper Leo Camacho has really seen his stars on the rise. But even though his time at the WFJC was a short one, his takes on cosplay, the Disney Fandom, and Disney media has been insightful and he was a lovely guest on the show. We only have 3 more episodes of wrap up, then we start with the new episodes. I hope you're as excited as I am. Skipper Kyle Originally Published February 21st, 2017 Hey there, Adventurers! This week on the Podcast, Skipper Leo Camacho, darling of the Disneyverse. We take 2 episode and chat about his time at Disneyland, his fandom experience, and how great of a time it is to be immersing yourself in fandom at this time. We have a great time with Leo, and he is a Skipper through and through. The second half of this episode will drop in 2 weeks, and we're looking forward to bringing you the rest of the story. Hey there, Adventurers! Glad to see you're still aboard, or ashore, or wherever you are. So much stuff to go over. After 2 glorious years back at the Jungle Cruise, my time in a boat is ending. This coming Friday will be my last day with Disney, likely for the last time. That means new episodes are planned and in the works, but it may take me a little bit of time to get traction and get rolling again. Luckily, I have 3 more rerun episodes to go, and that will buy me some time. Thanks for hanging with me for the last 24 months. I know it's been a long wait. Good things are on the horizon. (Oh, and this episode is the second episode with Tony Goldmark, chatting about the state of the parks as of 2 years ago. It's a really good interview, and one I really like...) Originally Published January 30th, 2017 Part two of our chat with YouTube personality Tony Goldmark is here. We really hope you are enjoying his content online, and we start off this episode discussing his RiffTrax/MST3K style take on the Disneyland Opening Ceremonies Broadcast. We are headed to Orlando for the big Skipper Gathering there this weekend, so we'll be in reruns for a few weeks, and coming back at you with new episodes ASAP. Kungaloosh! Skipper Kyle
Hard to believe that we're nearly at the end of our rerun lovefest, and we're just around the corner from new episodes. This week we are re-running our time with Tony Goldmark, of the "Some Jerk With A Camera" Vlog, and theme park connoisseur. The first of 2 episodes where we chat about the state of the theme parks, particularly Disney and Universal. Originally Published January 23rd, 2017 It's really rare that we have a non-Skipper on the show. But, we occasionally get the chance to have someone on who is so entertaining, and has such good insight about the park experience, that we book them as quickly as we can. Plus, on top of that, our guest produced the YouTube video last year that had me laughing the hardest that I have ever laughed at a Disney produced tv special. That's right, Some Jerk with a Camera, Tony Goldmark, producer and creator of the Disneyland Opening Ceremony Riff videos, is joining us on the podcast. Besides being a strongly opinionated and humorous chap, he's also got an amazing insight into the Theme Park Fandom. We were super honored to have him join us. In case you want easy access, his videos can be found here... Some Jerk With A Camera (CLICK HERE) This is part 1, part 2 will roll out next week! Skipper Kyle
WDW Happy Hour - News, Brews, Reviews, and Everything Else Disney!
We feel bad that we shorted you a podcast last time around. So, we are hooking you up with a very special bonus episode this week! Matt and Katherine got to sit down and talk to our dear friend Skipper Kyle (who has his very own, very-good podcast, Tales From the Jungle Crews). We were eager to talk to Kyle because he has gotten to visit Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge in Disneyland Park multiple times at this point, and we needed to get some fresh impressions of everything there was to see and do. We had a ton of fun with this interview, and we hope you enjoy listening. Cheers, and Kungaloosh! Take a seat at the bar, and follow us on social media! Well, after 2 years, we have a new episode... sort of. I mean, it is new, but it's not strictly a Jungle or interview episode. Hi there, I'm Skipper Kyle, and I'd like to announce the return of Tales from the Jungle Crews. My time with Disney is coming to an end in a few months, and with that, I am able to start producing some new content again. This episode is a in-betweener from Season 6 to Season 7, as I take you through my experiences at the Black Spire Outpost at Galaxy's Edge, and give you some updates about my life, the Jungle, and what to expect in the coming months from the podcast.I'm looking forward to coming back and bringing you some new Skippertainment! Kungaloosh, my friends! Skipper Kyle
The reruns keep on coming... This week we chat with Skipper Matt Gambino, and talk about WDW and its college program, and how to turn your time at the Jungle Cruise into a successful career. Oh, and... Season 7 kicks off the first week of July! Looking forward to being back in front of your ears on a regular basis. Skipper Kyle Originally Released On August 23rd, 2016 Hey Skips and Skipperettes! Season 6 is here, and we're in the swing of our Fall Kickstarter. Starting August 26th, we are promoting "King of the Skippers", an amazing party card game with art that brings to life characters from our Jungle Crews Radio Plays. It's a super easy to learn game with a competitive edge that will appeal to players of games like Uno. We have fantastic stretch goals, and backer rewards, and can't wait to see you there. Join us at www.Bit.do/KingoftheSkippers Today's interview is with Skipper Matt Gambino. Matt turned his Jungle Cruise experience at WDW in the early 90's into a launchpad for his career, and he has some great insights about the college program and working Jungle. We had a super fun time chatting, and it's always great learning more about our East Coast cousins. Keep your eyes peeled, everyone... We've got episodes lined up and lots of excitement during our Kickstarter. Can't wait to take this trip with you. Skipper Kyle
Well, 2019 is here, and so much is happening at the Disney parks, the Jungle Cruise, and for me in my life. It's an exciting year, filled with lots of new stuff. We have a ton of new products at our Skipper Store on TeePublic. It's super exciting, and I'll work on keeping everyone up to speed on all the big Jungle and Skipper Kyle news. It's strange that I've been back to the Jungle for a full year now. It's amazing how time goes by so fast. This is the second half of our episode with Skipper Joel Halberstadt, and I really enjoyed hearing about an era of the Jungle that we had not previously explored. SK Originally published November 17th, 2015 So, today’s guest is the second half of our sit down with Skipper Joel Halberstadt. We chat about his time as a Skipper in the late 60’s, but this time we dig more into his time in Imagineering. Joel’s first episode really has resonated with Skippers, and I have had a lot of great commentary about his first episode. I hope everyone is enjoying the content this fall. I feel like we've had some really incredible episodes, and have also broadened our base. Thanks for continuing to share our episodes with your friends, and we're continuing to get good stuff lined up for the next few months!
Well, 2/3 of the way through our cavalcade of reruns, and we're still putting up the old content for you to listen to. This week we sit down with our very own Skipperette, Jen Chavez. Jen took over the reins of the Jungle Crews podcast and Facebook page when Skipper Kyle went back to Disneyland, and she has done a remarkable job over the last year. She continually finds new vintage photos and content, and has just been amazing. I love her Podcast time, too, so we hope you enjoy... Originally published July 13th, 2015 So, the clock keeps turning, and our fourth year of Skippertainment comes to a close. We had such an amazing year with you all, and our 5th season looks to be even better. New podcasts, new guests, new t-shirts, and some amazing surprises. Thanks, everyone for joining us on this ride. In this week's episode, we sit down and chat with our very own Skipperette Jen Chavez. Jen is our content manager for our Facebook page, and she does an amazing job. Her tale at Jungle has some fun twists and turns, and her views on vintage Disney are great. She also just made her stand-up comedy debut on July 12th (hence the title) and she totally killed. We hope you enjoy her episode, and we'll be back in 2 weeks with the conclusion of her interview.
Well, we come to the end of another season in our recap-a-rama. As we keep moving through the years, this episode is a strange one. It's a recap episode for Season 4, and it is a little bit of me just telling my story. Things are good and busy in the Skipcast world, and there's a lot of interest in the Jungle Cruise movie. (Coming out Oct 11, 2019.) We are super excited for the story that Disney is going to be telling, and everything we have seen is pretty amazing. So, here's an episode for you for today, and I'm hoping you are all enjoying the trips through the past that we've been taking while Skipper Kyle is back at the Jungle Cruise at Disneyland. Originally Published June 30th, 2015 Our 4th year is wrapping up, and we had a busy busy weekend. We met with 120 cm's from the 80's and 90's. We had our Sunday Social at Sam's, and we got to hang out with a bunch of podcast listeners. So, this is a different episode, in the same way the Disney Family Museum episode was. This one is just me. I have been in a lot of discussions lately with people who ask me why I do the podcast, what I get out of it, why the Jungle has stuck with me the way I have, and if I am just an egocentric narcissistic maniac who can't hear enough of his own voice. (For the record, no...) So, as a way of wrapping up the first 4 years of this little experiment in niche podcasting, I just wanted to take 20 minutes and let you know a little about me, why Jungle is such a thing for me, and what the podcast means to me. This may totally not be your thing, and if it isn't, we'll have a new episode in 2 weeks to get you back in the stream and the regular Jungle Crews merriment.
The rerun fun continues with the second half of our interview with Skipper Timothy Bernardi, as we discuss more about WDW and his roles in the past and present. (Yeah, there's not much of an exciting blurb for this... it's just more of a chat with a great guy.) Skipper Kyle
The first 2 years of our podcast had 39 episodes, and in that time we stretched our legs a lot to work on figuring out what we wanted to be about. This week's episode is one of my 2 favorite episodes from the first 2 years. (Outside of the Radio Plays, of course..) My trip to the Walt Disney Family Museum was one of my first road trips with my lovely wife, and it was my first chance to experience this amazing place. I really didn't know what to expect going into this, but it was a total perception shifting experience for my feelings about Walt and the entire Disney company. As an enthusiast of the history of Disneyland, for the very special place that Walt Disney had in my life, and as a former Cast Member and Skipper... Well, this place just hit me on all levels. I was really proud to put together this "review" of my experience. It is one of the first times that I feel like the mature voice of the podcast emerged, but I also feel like it is an episode that I would not change a single word of... I hope you guys are enjoying the recaps... Skipper Kyle
