Anna Humphries is an adventurer, expedition leader, and founder of The Mountain Girl, whose life is dedicated to getting people outdoors and showing them what's possible when you push past your comfort zone. A trained Mountain Leader, Scout Leader, and key member of the Bear Grylls Survival Academy team, Anna has designed and led survival programmes across the UK and around the world. Her work spans everything from logistics and programme development to standing on the frontlines with groups of young people, teaching them resilience and grit in the wild. Adventure runs through her veins. She has hiked to Everest Base Camp, raced through the National Three Peaks Challenge multiple times — her fastest in under 20 hours — and was part of the first female team to Stand Up Paddle Board across the English Channel. Whether it's trail running, paddle boarding, or exploring high peaks, Anna thrives on testing her own limits while inspiring others to do the same. Through The Mountain Girl, Anna champions accessibility in the outdoors, especially for women and young people. She believes in the power of nature to build confidence, connection, and courage. Her mission is simple: to encourage more people to experience the wild, to discover their inner strength, and to prove to themselves that they are tougher than they think. Dream.Think.Talk.Commit. This is Tony Mowbray's formula for Thinking Big and achieving Possibilities. Tony has sailed singlehanded around the world, circumnavigated Australia, done numerous Sydney-Hobart races and numerous other long-distance sailing events. He is a frequent visitor to the Antarctic by yacht.Tony is also a man of action. In this podcast, we discuss how Tony, from a non sailing family, got involved in sailing at a young age, the power of mentors and people who believe in you, balancing passions with family life and so much more.We also discuss in depth his experience in the ill-fated 1998 Sydney-Hobart yacht race, where he and his crew came close to losing their lives. It is the most compelling account of that race I have read and I have read a lot about that race. His lessons here on decision making, leadership, and his crews will to live and survive despite injury and a formidable opponent in the ocean is compelling, and we discuss this in depth.Tony's new book, "Never, Ever Give In" is a must read for anyone wanting to do things that seem impossible at first. He truly embraces the mindset, skillset and toolset concept I talk about to accomplish incredible things. You can order Tony's book (20 plus years in the making) and find out more about Tony at https://www.tonymowbray.com.au/ and connect with him on LinkedIn.Tony is also a fabulous speaker, so consider having him along to your next corporate event.

Clare joins Nick Wilson for a circuit around Pitsford Reservoir in Northamptonshire. A former soldier, Nick now uses a powerchair after a spinal injury and years of chronic pain made walking impossible. He has experienced homelessness and battled depression, yet has found the strength to launch his ‘Disabled Adventurer' project. Through this initiative, Nick creates social media videos about the accessibility of natural spaces, leads wheelchair skills workshops, and collaborates with national organisations to make the outdoors more inclusive.Nick and his support worker, Matthew, brought along a spare powerchair for Clare. With their guidance, she navigated a stretch of the reservoir's wide, accessible paths. As Nick explained, having access to outdoor spaces and continuing to pursue his love of adventure - albeit in a different way - has helped him rediscover a sense of enjoyment, achievement, and purpose.Map: OS Explorer 223 Northampton and Market Harborough Map Ref: (car park) SP 752 694 Presenter: Clare Balding Producer: Karen GregorA BBC Studios Production for Radio 4

Story 1: Another series of "No Kings" protests happened over the weekend, gracing the internet with a plethora of entertaining clips, but while some protestors were content with showing off their dance moves on the sidewalk, others took things a step further, advocating for and celebrating violence against ICE agents and conservatives. Story 2: Dr. Drew Pinsky, Host of ‘Health Uncensored with Dr. Drew' & Board Certified Internist, explains how the psychology of men and women differs when it comes to tackling major issues and the role that plays during the "No Kings" protests. Dr. Drew unpacks how these differences can reshape a society, for better or for worse, as more women are selected for religious and political leadership roles. Story 3: World-famous Adventurer and Host of ‘Man vs. Wild' and ‘Running Wild,' Bear Grylls sits down with Will to discuss a lesser-known aspect of his life: his Christian faith. Grylls tells the story behind his recently published book, ‘The Greatest Story Ever Told,' which describes the life of Jesus from lesser seen perspectives, before sharing how his faith helped him through some of his most treacherous adventures. In Final Takes, Will and The Crew debate an AI video posted to Truth Social by President Donald Trump, featuring the President flying an F-16 and dropping a ‘stink bomb' on a crowd of "No Kings'" protestors. Guiding Question: Are you living with the end in mind, and how does your view of eternity shape the way you live today? Key Takeaways: Sacred Ground as a Mental and Physical Space: Robert Lewis introduces the concept of “sacred ground”—a moment or place, whether physical or internal, where we reflect deeply on what matters most. These encounters can reorient our lives, helping us clarify what is truly worth living and dying for. Orientation Determines Destination: Using the metaphor of an "adventurer's wiring," Lewis maps a man's life from birth to death and eternity. Right orientation—knowing where you are going and aligning your present with that end—is essential for a meaningful life. The Power of Contemplating the End: Lewis urges men to regularly reflect on death and eternity—not as a morbid exercise, but as a life-shaping habit. This contemplation leads to better decisions, deeper satisfaction, and a clearer sense of purpose. Two Competing Worldviews: He contrasts the traditional religious worldview (which affirms divine origin, design, eternity, and ultimate meaning) with secular scientism (which views life as a random accident with no ultimate purpose). Every person lives according to one of these views, consciously or not. Peripheral Vision and Metaphysics: Just as athletes rely on peripheral vision, men need “metaphysical vision”—the ability to see the bigger picture beyond the immediate. This vision shapes our everyday choices and values. Four Views of the End: Dead End – Life ends with death, nothing follows. Blind Optimism – “Everything will be okay” without reason or clarity. Good Enough – Based on self-evaluation and comparison to others. I Need Help – Recognizes the need for grace and divine help—this is where Christianity uniquely speaks. Why the Christian Vision of the End Matters: Contrary to caricatures of heaven as boring or irrelevant, Lewis teases that the Bible offers a compelling vision of eternity—one worth exploring deeply in coming weeks. Christianity uniquely answers the human longing for meaning, justice, and hope beyond the grave. Key Scripture References: 2 Corinthians 4:18 – “...the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.” Ecclesiastes 3:11 – “He has also set eternity in the human heart...” 1 Corinthians 15:32 – “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.” (Referenced indirectly through Paul's quote)

If you've felt yourself drift—avoiding his touch, calling it “just a busy season,” or wondering what's wrong with you—this episode is for you. Dr. Danielle continues last week's raw conversation (Ep. 126) and names what's underneath the distance: dysregulated hormones and stress chemistry, quiet resentment, and numbing that looks like “I'm fine.” With Scripture (1 Corinthians 7) and straight-talk coaching, she gives you a clear way forward: say the truth out loud, address the physical root causes, and get in a Godly community that won't let you quit. This isn't a moral failure; it's a functional health issue—and stewardship is part of your marital duty.CTA: Subscribe on Substack for the deeper written teaching, DM cafe on IG to join the Wilderness Café (Telegram), or step into Adventurer inside the Wilderness of Wellness for the Roadmap to Health + coaching.SERVICES & MEMBERSHIPS:SubstackCoffee Cafe Registration$7 Mentorship: How to Fix Your Energy, Cravings, and Mood in Just One Day

Send us a textOften called “the lesbian Bible,” Radclyffe Hall's 1928 novel The Well of Loneliness has been sparking debate for nearly a century. Banned in the UK after an infamous obscenity trial, the book remains a lightening rod for readers — some revere it, others can't stand it. We'll explore what makes this groundbreaking novel so remarkable (and so divisive) with returning guest Iris Jamahl Dunkle, who found inspiration in Hall's protagonist for her forthcoming book on strong-bodied women who refuse to conform to society's standards.Mentioned in this episode:Kim and Amy's October 14 LitQuake appearance: “Scribbling Women” Strike Back: How Long-Silenced Voices Have Fueled a New ResistanceThe Well of Loneliness by Radclyffe Hall (new Oxford Press edition)Iris Jamahl Dunkle's Substack article on Radclyffe Hall“Bad Gays” podcast episode on Radclyffe HallLost Ladies of Lit Episode No. 27 on Charmian Kittredge LondonLost Ladies of Lit Episode No. 214 on Sanora BabbLost Ladies of Lit Episode No. 152 on Janet LewisRiding Like the Wind: The Life of Sanora Babb by Iris Jamahl DunkleCharmian Kittredge London: Trailblazer, Author, Adventurer by Iris Jamahl DunkleWomb House BooksCita PressLoving Sylvia Plath: A Reclamation by Emily Van DuyneDo Admit: The Mitford Sisters and Me by Mimi PondHavelock EllisEdith EllisDjuna BarnesNatalie Clifford BarneyMargaret VandenburgSupport the showFor episodes and show notes, visit: LostLadiesofLit.comSubscribe to our substack newsletter. In this episode I discuss running D&D and other RPGs at high level. It's often not as fun as we think it'll be, especially for the GM. A lot of the issues with high level play and advancement are baked into the games, but sometimes we as GMs make the situation even worse through our approach. I talk about some ways to handle powerful PCs as a GM—what to do and what not to do. I also share things I've learned running Blood of the Avatars and other high-level campaigns. Hopefully you can learn from some of my mistakes in your next high-level game.Check out my sci-fi novel, Critical Balance.Have you read Critical Balance? This week on The Adventurer Podcast, Lauren Parish sits down with Mike and Cindy Lemon to share an inspiring conversation about calling, service, and healing. They discuss how their paths first crossed through their service careers and how those experiences opened doors to minister to first responders and trauma victims. From the front lines to moments of deep pain, they talk about the power of presence, the importance of faith in crisis, and how God is using their story to bring hope and restoration through the love of Jesus.
This conversation with Peter delves into the rich history and culture of Britain, exploring the interplay between myth and reality, particularly through the lens of Arthurian legends and the influence of Christianity. We also delve into the exploration of ancient civilizations, focusing on archaeological finds, the Neolithic period, and the connections between zodiac symbols and historical narratives. We discuss the significance of cultural exchanges, the influence of geography on ancient societies, and the legacy of figures like Arthur in the context of myth and history. Peter also touches on the idea of secret knowledge being passed down through generations, highlighting the intertwining of history and mythology in understanding our past. We look for connections between the Holy Grail, the Bronze and Iron Ages, and the historical context of King Arthur.
