Two Guys: Hawkeyes & Cyclones cruise in Week 1, bad weekend for the Big Ten

Cy-Hawk Week is here, and Two Guys is breaking down everything you need to know before Iowa and Iowa State meet in Iowa City! Chris Williams and Chris Hassel react to both teams' Week 1 victories, including Iowa's 40-0 shutout of Northern Illinois and Iowa State's 38-10 win over SEMO to begin the Jimmy Rogers era. The biggest question for Iowa is still at quarterback. Hank Brown or Jeremy Hecklinski? The guys break down Brown's impressive opening game, Heklinski's performance, Kirk Ferentz's decision to keep the position listed as an "or," and what the quarterback rotation could look like against Iowa State. For the Cyclones, the guys discuss Jaylen Raynor, Benny Ngoyi's incredible interception, Aiden Flora, Iowa State's new-look defense, and the biggest concern heading into Kinnick Stadium: the offensive line. Plus, the Big Ten had a rough opening weekend. Michigan needed TWO Hail Marys to survive Western Michigan, Washington struggled, and Oregon barely escaped Boise State. The guys also discuss Bryce Underwood's disappointing debut, Lane Kiffin's dominant win over Clemson, conference pride, and their brutal Week 1 college football picks. And, of course, the guys make their early Cy-Hawk predictions before the biggest game of the week. Presented by Fareway Meat & Grocery. Moon is back from the Cali Country Cruise, and apparently all it took was several days trapped on a boat with country music, expensive Wi-Fi, questionable pools and enough alcohol to sink a smaller boat to make our resident cruise defender reconsider his entire belief system.Welcome to Episode 146 of The Rizzuto Show, the funny podcast where a perfectly normal vacation recap somehow ends with violent otters, bats trying to enter human mouths, artificial intelligence being defeated by Hawaiian shirts, and Missouri discovering that the rest of America apparently doesn't love our vibes.Moon kicks things off with the full report from the Cali Country Cruise, sailing from Long Beach to Ensenada, Mexico. The lineup included Tracy Lawrence, Gretchen Wilson, Jo Dee Messina, Chase Rice and plenty more, while Moon performed with Sullivan. There were some musical highs, some musical... let's call them learning opportunities... and the revelation that Jo Dee Messina may have discovered the ultimate cruise hack: perform before the ship leaves and then GET OFF THE BOAT.Genius. No notes.Gretchen Wilson, meanwhile, delivered one of Moon's highlights of the entire trip with a killer performance and band. Unfortunately, the actual cruise experience wasn't getting the same review. We're talking pricey Wi-Fi that barely worked, a balcony-room mix-up, limited excursion options, fake Cuban cigars, a stage built over the pool and a tiny backup pool populated by people who apparently had no interest in ever getting out.Nothing makes you rethink vacation choices like sitting in a hot tub in Mexico wondering how much human broth is legally allowed before it becomes soup. And somehow that's not even where the cruise chaos ends. The ship was reportedly delayed while authorities dealt with passengers suspected of bringing meth aboard, while another passenger managed to get cut off from the alcohol package before the ship even left. Imagine getting grounded by a cruise ship while you're still within swimming distance of your car. From there, this funny podcast turns into a tour of America's most overrated attractions. Four Corners gets roasted. Mount Rushmore gets called smaller than expected. Times Square takes a hit. The Las Vegas Strip lands at the top of the list. Lern also reveals she once got emotional seeing Chicago's Bean, proving once again that public art can be powerful when it looks like a gigantic piece of silver produce. Then the animals arrive.A swimmer at Lake Tahoe reportedly gets attacked by an otter and requires 38 stitches, prompting Rafe to immediately begin defending the otter because apparently wildlife now has legal representation on The Rizzuto Show. Then there's a possible shark attack near the Massachusetts location associated with Jaws, followed by the deeply upsetting story of a woman waking from a dream about a mouse crawling toward her mouth... only to discover there was actually a BAT near her mouth.Sleep tight, everybody. We also discover a Hawaiian shirt designed to confuse AI-powered surveillance cameras, which means Weird Al may have been preparing for the surveillance state this entire time. Finally, Missouri and Illinois get dragged into America's "worst vibes" rankings before the crew investigates which states hate each other the most. Missouri's answer? Kansas. Obviously. Centuries pass, civilizations rise and fall, and Missouri will apparently still find time to be annoyed by Kansas.Follow The Rizzuto Show → linktr.ee/rizzshow for more from your favorite daily comedy show.Connect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast online → 1057thepoint.com/RizzShow.Hear The Rizz Show daily on the radio at 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MO.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

//The Wire//2100Z September 2, 2026// //ROUTINE// //BLUF: SABOTAGE ATTACK TARGETS SECOND GERMAN ELECTRICAL SUBSTATION. SHOOTING REPORTED BETWEEN GOVERNMENT AGENCIES IN UKRAINE. IRANIAN ATTACKS CONTINUE OVERNIGHT, TARGETING AMERICAN BASES.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE-----  -International Events-Middle East: Last night's attacks by Iran were somewhat successful, with strikes being reported at the airport in Erbil. An Iranian Shahed-type drone also took out the Persistent Threat Detection System (PTDS) balloon at this location, in addition to striking the fuel point. In Bahrain, several Shahed-type drones targeted the former headquarters of 5th Fleet in Manama and Sheikh Isa Airbase to the south. Several locations were also targeted in Kuwait, with unknown success. As of this report, the United States has not yet responded to the round of Iranian targeting conducted overnight.Ukraine: Overnight a small arms skirmish was reported in Kiev, which reportedly involved two different Ukrainian governmental agencies engaging each other in the street. Allegedly, the Security Service of Ukraine (the SBU, which is like a uniformed and militarized version of the FBI) detained Stepan Kaplunov who was the deputy commander of the Russian Volunteer Corps, a unit of ethnic Russians fighting on Ukraine's side during the war. Kaplunov was staying at a residential building in Kiev for Independence Day celebrations last week, when he was reportedly abducted for unknown reasons. After this kidnapping, the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine (the GUR, or the main military intelligence unit) launched an investigation into why the SBU took him, which resulted in a scuffle and subsequent shootout at the scene of the earlier abduction. One GUR officer is dead, and several others were wounded during the initial engagement.Analyst Comment: As one might expect, Ukrainian sources are downplaying this incident, and Russian sources are trying to amplify it, so determining the truth is challenging. However the incident did take place, and the small arms engagement in the street between these two agencies was captured on film.As it stands, video evidence from the time of the shooting indicates that tensions were high between the SBU and the GUR right before shots were fired. Both agencies were arguing with each other, with the SBU refusing to allow the GUR into the crime scene, and a standoff situation emerged. As the agencies continued arguing and fighting with each other, eventually the altercation became physical, and devolved into a shooting. After the shooting, the standoff situation continued throughout the night and the next morning. Eventually, the SBU ended up releasing Kaplunov, ending the incident. Several prominent Ukrainian leaders have called for an investigation into what happened, and for more details to be made public.Germany: Yesterday afternoon, another electrical substation was targeted by malign actors conducting sabotage operations. Locals observed an explosion and arcing at the Bergheim Power Station in western Germany, shortly before the power went out. Local authorities state that 6x rocket launch sites were located in a field near the second substation that was attacked, continuing the same attack vector as witnessed at a different power station yesterday.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: In Germany, the attacks on electrical substations over the past two days have been substantial. In short, these attacks were probably not carried out by amateurs. Locals report that upwards of twenty separate rockets were launched over the top of the substation near Berlin. These rockets were not fireworks, but specifically constructed devices built for the task. These rockets were also trailing thin copper wire, which was intended to cause electrical shorts. This is not entirely a new tactic, after all the United States pioneered this tactic of taking out enemy substations with "blackout bombs" that operate very similarly. Cruise missiles were used to deploy such devices over Baghdad during the initial invasion of Iraq in 2003, with thin graphite wires being trailed over the top of exposed substation transformers and electrical connectors. More recently, an unidentified malign actor also attempted to target an electrical substation in Pennsylvania back in 2020, which resulted in widespread media coverage at the time.Malign actors using almost thirty rockets to achieve the same effect in Germany is a substantial escalation that is not likely to have been undertaken by non-state actors. Germany is infamous for having some of the more serious ecoterrorists around the world, who have conducted IED attacks, train derailings, and other similar attacks on electrical infrastructure. However, since no ecoterrorist organization has claimed credit yet, right now the leading theory is that these sabotage operations could be sleeper cells conducting attacks around the German countryside.Analyst: S2A1 Research: https://publish.obsidian.md/s2underground NomadNet: 5fa68c88be727a0e1a250a75e5e79269 Disclaimer: No LLMs were used in the writing of this report. //END REPORT//

Ep. 271: The captain was given a choice: grab a rag to help the team wash the windows or hand over the boat. He tapped his epaulettes signaling his rank, "I'm the captain." John fired him. Why? Because the problem was never the windows. It was the belief that his title made certain jobs beneath him. Today, John Waggoner, Founder and Chairman of Victory Cruise Lines, still tells that story during employee orientation. His message is simple: if the owner will sweep the dock, carry the trash, or wash the windows, everyone should be willing to jump in. Do you want to write a book? Philadelphia has opened a $60 million cruise terminal on the Delaware River, backed by a berthing agreement that keeps Norwegian Cruise Line sailing from the region through March 2033 with a minimum of 41 departures a year. Carnival Cruise Line opened sales on 144 Long Beach departures for 2028-29, with Carnival Radiance and Carnival Panorama running three- to eight-day Baja California and Mexican Riviera itineraries from May 2028 through April 2029. And Holland America Line added Nootka Sound to select 2028 Alaska sailings, part of a six-ship season built around its Great Alaska Explorer and Great Bear Rainforest routes. Today's episode looks at how cruise lines are reshaping North American departures and itineraries, from new homeports to expanded West Coast and Alaska options.

Today's brief covers three stories from across the cruise world. A cruise passenger died after falling from an upper deck while the ship was docked at PortMiami; Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded at 3:30 a.m. and the sheriff's homicide bureau opened what it classified as an unclassified death investigation, with the passenger's identity, the ship, and the operator not disclosed and the medical examiner's findings pending. Carnival revised 11 Bahamas itineraries across Carnival Conquest, Carnival Spirit, Carnival Legend and Carnival Elation for departures between November 2026 and April 2028, largely swapping or adjusting call days and times at RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay and Celebration Key, with Princess Cays replaced on one Carnival Spirit sailing; the guest notices did not explain the revisions. And Tianjin Oriental Cruises has begun northern China's first cruises to nowhere aboard Visio from Tianjin International Cruise Homeport, three-day roundtrips presaled at 500 to 1,200 renminbi that require no foreign visa under a Ministry of Transport pilot classification, before the ship resumes South Korea sailings.

We all have that one movie from the '80s. Maybe yours is Back to the Future. Maybe it's The Breakfast Club, The Goonies or Say Anything. It doesn't necessarily have to be the greatest movie ever made. It just has to be the movie that found you at exactly the right time and somehow never let go. For Steve, that movie has always been Streets of Fire. Walter Hill's 1984 “rock & roll fable” gave us a strange and wonderful world of neon streets, roaring motorcycles, pounding music, Michael Paré, Diane Lane, Amy Madigan and a very young Willem Dafoe in one of the more memorable pairs of overalls in cinematic history. It wasn't a box-office hit. It never became the franchise its creators once envisioned. But Streets of Fire found its audience over the years, becoming a cult favorite with a visual style and soundtrack that remain unmistakable more than four decades later. This week, we're opening the Stuck in the '80s archives and traveling back 15 years to revisit our original tribute to Streets of Fire, first released in 2011. And after you've taken that trip back with us, maybe ask yourself: What was your special movie of the '80s? THE '80s CRUISE Ready to stop merely talking about the '80s and actually live them for a week? Join Stuck in the '80s aboard The '80s Cruise in 2027 for seven days of music, memories, trivia, questionable dancing and thousands of people who understand why the '80s still matter this much to us. Professor Game Podcast | Rob Alvarez Bucholska chats with gamification gurus, experts and practitioners about education

Get the free Core Drives in the Wild guide, behavioral design applied to real products: professorgame.com/WildCD Episode Summary Rob breaks down the peak-end rule, the finding from Daniel Kahneman and Donald Redelmeier's 1996 study that people remember an experience by its most intense moment and its ending, not its average. He walks through how cruise lines engineer both moments with nightly raffle dinners, a captain's dinner placed near the end of the trip, and a deliberately overinvested farewell, mapping each to Core Drives 1, 5, and 7 from the Octalysis Framework. Listeners learn why the remembering self, not the experiencing self, drives repeat purchases, how to cap sessions while desire is still climbing, and where the ethical line sits between honest peak design and covering up a bad experience. About the Host Rob Alvarez is Head of Engagement Strategy, Europe at The Octalysis Group (TOG), a leading gamification and behavioral design consultancy. A globally recognized gamification strategist and TEDx speaker, he founded and hosts Professor Game, the #1 gamification podcast, and has interviewed hundreds of global experts. He designs evidence-based engagement systems that drive motivation, loyalty, and results, and teaches LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® and gamification at top institutions including IE Business School, EFMD, and EBS University across Europe, the Americas, and Asia. Key Takeaways In Kahneman and Redelmeier's 1996 study, deliberately extending a painful colonoscopy so it ended on milder discomfort increased total pain, yet those patients remembered the procedure as less bad and returned for follow-ups at higher rates. The remembering self, not the experiencing self, makes the decision to come back, and it is a terrible statistician: it keeps two data points, the peak and the ending, and discards the average entirely. Cruise lines run the peak-end rule as a business model: nightly raffle dinners built on Core Drive 7 (Unpredictability and Curiosity) and Core Drive 5 (Social Influence and Relatedness) rewrite a mediocre day with a manufactured high. The captain's dinner adds Core Drive 1 (Epic Meaning and Calling) near the end of the trip, and disembarkation is deliberately overinvested because cruises live off travelers who rebook every year, not first-timers. A concrete design move: cap the session while desire is still climbing, so the last memory is "I wanted more" instead of "I was starting to get bored." The ethical line: peak-end design is honest when the peak and the ending tell the truth about the experience, and manipulative when those two moments are used to cover up an experience that was genuinely terrible. If you've ever been invited to bid for a cruise cabin upgrade, you probably assumed (like me) that the highest bid wins. But, that's not how it works at all. After losing an upgrade to another passenger who had bid less than I did, I decided to investigate what was really going on behind cruise line upgrade bidding. What I found completely changed how I approach the process. In this video, I reveal what I discovered. Starting with something staring me in the face but had not spotted that that unites every cruise line when it comes to cruise cabin upgrade bidding. This video will help you understand how the system REALLY works—and will improve your chances when bidding for an upgrade (probably for less money than you planned to spend too) Become a Tips For Travellers Patron: https://www.patreon.com/tipsfortravellers and get exclusive Patron-only content, downloads and livestreams Visit my Tips For Travellers YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/tipsfortravellers   Offers: Get 10% any order of The Cruise Maps who you visit the site using this link: https://www.TheCruiseMaps.com/TFT Get up to 30% off collectible tokens of place you've visited using the link: https://www.TheWanderClub.com/TFT

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings has laid out a nearly $20 billion fleet plan running through 2037, adding 16 ships across Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises while five older vessels leave the fleet between 2026 and 2028, among them Norwegian Sky and Norwegian Sun, both bound for Cordelia Cruises. And in Texas, Galveston Wharves directors are weighing a memorandum of understanding with Royal Caribbean Group for Cruise Terminal 14, an Icon-class berth projected to handle about two million passenger movements a year under a ground lease valued at roughly $479 million over a possible 60-year term.

Two weeks in a row! Jen made it through a whole episode, mostly, and only got mad about the cruise she isn't going on. Trevor is one week from check-in, Tom did not post Flat Jen, and there are consequences coming for that.John Heald had to remind everyone on Facebook that crew members are not permitted to accept homemade food — sealed and packaged is fine, mystery Tupperware is not — and the crew debates whether this is a health-code thing or a those brownies were loaded thing. He also addressed the rumor about Guy's Burger Joint extending hours, which is currently a test on Carnival Conquest only. Princess is now charging for the Medallion to be mailed to you, though there's a free option at the terminal they'd prefer you forget. Carnival is partnering with Sneaker Impact to give the roughly 50,000 pairs of shoes guests leave behind each year to communities that need footwear — with worn-out pairs ground down and turned into yoga mats — which immediately becomes a plan to fill a backpack at Goodwill before the Jubilee. The hard news: a joint task force has removed dozens of crew members across multiple ships at U.S. ports of entry this year over child sexual abuse material found during device and quarter searches — 11 in Boston in August, 27 detained in San Diego earlier this year, and more in San Juan. Most were processed as immigration removals rather than federal charges, which raises real questions about how international crew are vetted through third-party labor agencies. We handle it straight. Also: a debarkation fight caught on what were almost certainly Meta glasses, filmed by someone simultaneously reading their credit card number aloud; guests stranded ashore in Cabo for three hours when a tropical storm shut down tendering; and a nine-day river cruise from Tulsa to Memphis launching in 2029 at $5,200 per person, which Trevor priced out at roughly five Carnival cruises. This week we also lost Dolly Parton and Tim Curry. Jen said it best.23 days to FRGC4. 124 days to the Panama Canal.

"Easy Day Away: Ohio's Mounds" This summer, the "Sound of Ideas" team has been bringing you suggestions for trips to take outside of Northeast Ohio, through the "Easy Day Away" series, which you can travel to within a short car ride. This time, we head south to visit sites that are thousands of years old, and the significance of which puts them in the same category as the Acropolis in Greece, Stonehenge and the Great Wall of China. The Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks are earthen mounds built by ancient indigenous cultures around 2000 years ago and in 2023 they were designated as UNESCO World Heritage sites. Tuesday on the "Sound of Ideas," hosted by Stephanie Haney, we learn more about these massive earthworks, why they're important and what to learn from them. WOSU Public Media in Columbus has also been focusing on these mounds in a documentary series - "Hopewell Earthworks - Stories Written on the Land" which you can watch here. Guests: - Brad Lepper, Ph.D., Senior World Heritage Archaeologist, Ohio History Connection - Susan Knisley, Director of Interpretation & Education - Hopewell Culture National Historic Park; National Park Service - Logan York, Historic Preservation Director, Miami Tribe of Oklahoma; Host, "Hopewell Earthworks - Stories Written on the Land" James Renner's New Book Then, we hear from longtime Akron-based author James Renner, who has been covering true crime for years and has published books about some of the region's most infamous unsolved cases, including the murders of Amy Mihaljavic in Bay Village and Lisa Pruett in Shaker Heights. In his latest book, “A Cruise to Nowhere: My Search for Amy Lynn Bradley,” he goes farther afield — to the disappearance of a young Virginian woman from a cruise ship in the Caribbean in 1998. Ideastream Public Media's Deputy Editor of Engaged Journalism, Justin Glanville, spoke with Renner about the unresolved case and why it's maintained such a high profile for nearly 30 years. Forty years ago, Paul Simon released one of the most unlikely blockbuster albums of the 1980s. Graceland arrived on Aug. 25, 1986, blending Simon's unmistakable songwriting with South African rhythms, zydeco, gospel harmonies and a completely new way of building songs. The result was an album that sounded unlike almost anything else on the radio — and somehow became one of the defining records of the decade. In this episode of Stuck in the '80s, we go track by track through Graceland, from “The Boy in the Bubble” and “Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes” to “You Can Call Me Al” and the title track. We also look at the album's controversial origins during apartheid, the musicians who helped shape its sound, its Grammy-winning success and why it still feels so timeless 40 years later. Plus, we ask the bigger question: Where does Paul Simon rank among the greatest songwriters of our lifetime? And don't forget: Stuck in the '80s is sailing again with The '80s Cruise.
