Today, we're bringing you a field recording from ISBJØRN! Skipper Manot Berger and August Sandberg were sitting down aboard the boat some days before the crew arrived and discussed the upcoming passage from Bergen, Norway to the Faroe Islands. So you get to be a fly on the wall in ISBJØRN's salon, listening in on this conversation between two experienced Skippers. Lots of good takeaways here if you are planning to sail the North Sea or the Norwegian Sea! We are spending some time discussing potential stopovers in Shetland or the Orkneys, both located half-way between Norway and the Faroes, and we also look ahead to the next passage, Faroes to Reykjavik and discuss potential routing there. This was recorded in the first week of July, 2026. If this makes your sealegs itch, come sailing with us! We actually have two open bunks on FALKEN coming up on September 21 already, she is sailing from Ensenada to Monterey Bay with Alex and Adam onboard. That is going to be such a fun trip, those guys are just the absolute best, spending time with Adam and Alex, their friendship, it just makes you adore all human beings. You can find that one and other openings on 59-North.com/bunks. We are also about to announce some extra bonus passages in the fall of 2027, probably at the end of this week, and we are also working on 2028, which is going to be a pretty exciting year for both boats. To not miss out on any of this, go to 59-north.com/newsletter and sign up to get exciting sailing opportunities and other news straight to your inbox. Also, join the crew at quarterdeck.59-north.com! Hang out with August, Andy and the rest of the 59 North team, and our wonderful community of sailors. A huge thanks to all of our members for making this podcast possible. Have a wonderful day, and HOLD FAST! -- This episode is sponsored by BVI Yacht Sales, our boat broker friends from Tortola and Annapolis. Episode 197: Teresita Basa: The Voice from Beyond In February 1977, the 15th floor of an apartment building on the north side of Chicago filled with smoke. Neighbors called for help and firefighters arrived to the scene, where they found the smoke coming from a single apartment. Once inside, they found a mattress in flames. Once the flames were extinguished, they learned it wasn't the scene of just an arson, but a homicide. Teresita Basa's body was found in her apartment, and the fire had destroyed their hopes for evidence. In August of that year, Dr. Jose Chua and his wife Remy claimed to have a lead in the murder; further, they claimed the information came from Teresita herself. Her spirit, that is. In this episode, we discuss how Teresita's murder was solved. Do you believe she aided in her own murder investigation? Send us a textWelcome to Season 5 Episode 17 of That Pretentious Book Club! In this episode Spoons, Wheezy, and Gino dive headfirst into the wildly popular academic folkloric fantasy, Emily Wilde's Encylopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett. Get ready for some serious fangirling over Wendell Bambleby—who somehow manages to be both a golden-haired prince AND a bad-boy dreamboat, and a main character who is nothing less than an inspiration to the hosts (and probably all women everywhere). From swooning to snarking, we can't help but gush, laugh, and go off about this enchanting, hilarious, and occasionally curmudgeonly cast of characters. You won't want to miss it!Skippers jump to 21:10 Pour yourself a cup of tea (or hot chocolate), raise a pinky, and join the club for this discussion of Emily Wilde's Encylopaedia of Faeries!P.S. Send us a textWelcome to Season 5 Episode 15 of That Pretentious Book Club! In this episode Spoons and Wheezy discuss cozy regency romance Merry Little Match by independent author Celine Rachelle. Inspired by Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice (an all-time and iconic pod-favorite) but taking place during Christmas, this story is positively bursting with holiday cheer and all the enemies-to-lovers vibes an Austen girlie could wish for. Send us a textWelcome to Season 5 Episode 14 of That Pretentious Book Club! In this episode Gino and Wheezy discuss the absolutely gripping thriller The Fury by Alex Michaelides. This novel takes place on a private Greek island when an ex-movie star's spontaneous vacation is derailed by a shocking murder, told in a series of five acts by an unreliable narrator who--let's face it--we would all love to be friends with (at least for a little while). This story takes the locked-door-murder-mystery trope and turns it on its head for a high stakes, fast-paced, irresistible story rife with allusions to Greek mythology and reflections on the human condition. Skippers jump to 28:00 Pour yourself a cup of tea (or a "perfect" martini), raise a pinky, and join the club for this discussion of The Fury!Support the showFind this episode's book and more by shopping at https://bookshop.org/shop/storysirensstudio to support the club AND local bookstores!Visit us at storysirensstudio.com or find us on social media @thatpretentiousbookclub.Check out sister podcast The Scripturient Society for writers and join our writing group and chat hub on Discord!
