Welcome to our ongoing celebration of Disneyland's 70th anniversary. In many ways, Adventureland is truly the most immersive of all the lands of Disneyland. And yet, from a pedestrian space, it's perhaps one of the smallest. If you're just walking through it you can go from entrance to exit in about a minute. Unless of course Fantasmic! is going on in New Orleans Square and Fireworks are getting ready on Main Street. Then it's one of the most congested places on the map. And yet, day or night, Adventureland is full of tropical wonder and a jungle of detail. From the Enchanted Tiki Room to the Adventureland Treehouse; From the exotic Jungle Cruise to the high thrills of Indiana Jones Adventure. Join us as we celebrate the amazing True-Life Adventures of Disneyland's Adventureland. ____________________________________________________________ More Disney Insights can be found below! This week, a Disneyland icon is retiring after 55 years of service, major changes are coming to the resort, we have the details, more details on the Coco and Avatar experiences coming to DCA, Celebrate Soulfully is back, more 70th decorations have appeared, we talk about our D23 events we experienced, and more! Please support the show if you can by going to https://www.dlweekly.net/support/. Check out all of our current partners and exclusive discounts at https://www.dlweekly.net/promos. News: A Disneyland icon is retiring after 55 years with the Walt Disney Company. Kim Irvine will be passing the torch to the next generation of Imagineers to guide Disneyland. Over her time with the company, Kim worked on the Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, Sleeping Beauty Castle, Project Stardust, and more recently, the refurbishment of the Jungle Cruise and the Adventureland Treehouse. – https://www.micechat.com/417008-disneyland-news-kim-irvine-exits-coco-avatar-expand-construction-update/ Last Thursday, Disneyland President Thomas Mazloum gave a State of the Resort presentation and unveiled some major upcoming changes. The first of these was concept art for a new entrance experience for guests on the Harbor side of the resort. This includes a new Transportation Hub, and major esplanade changes. A new guest bridge will take guests from a new parking structure behind the hotels on Harbor Boulevard to the entrance to the parks. There will still be a security checkpoint on Harbor for guests staying at those hotels. The transportation hub will move from between the parks to the new parking area, along with a security checkpoint. Construction on a new 6,000 space parking structure, rideshare and shuttle zones, and everything else is set to begin in fall of 2026. – https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/future-expansion-plans-for-disneyland-resort/ Two other projects at Disney California Adventure got some more firm details. The “Avatar Experience” will displace Monsters, Inc. Mike and Sully to the Rescue!, which will close in early 2026. No further details on the experience, construction timeline, or anything else for this area was announced. The “Coco”-themed attraction did get some more details! The attraction will be located near Paradise Gardens Park and Pixar Pier, in a current backstage area. Construction will begin this fall! – https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/future-expansion-plans-for-disneyland-resort/ June is Black Music Month, which means the return of an annual celebration. Celebrate Soulfully runs now through the end of June. The event features specialty food, character meet and greets, and performances around the resort. – https://disneyland.disney.go.com/events-tours/celebrate-soulfully/ While we were in the parks, we were able to get a sneak peek over the scrim to see the update on the Tiki Room. It appears that Tangaroa has been installed and other Tiki Gods are also being refreshed. The flowers and tikis that fall from Tangaroa look to be higher up than before, but it was hard to say for certain over the scrim. – https://www.micechat.com/417008-disneyland-news-kim-irvine-exits-coco-avatar-expand-construction-update/ The Walt Disney Archives does some amazing work, which you can see in the parks for the 70th! Inside of Carthay Circle Restaurant, there is a new “Celebrating 70 Years of Disneyland Resort with the Walt Disney Archives” exhibit. It features a ticket book, a Sam the Eagle top hat from America Sings, a Disneyland survey marker, and more. Certainly worth checking out if you are in the parks. – https://www.micechat.com/417008-disneyland-news-kim-irvine-exits-coco-avatar-expand-construction-update/ We had talked previously of some of the missing decorations from the 70th concept art for Sleeping Beauty Castle. Well, they were just a little late for the start of the celebration! The toppers to the banners on the drawbridge have been installed. They feature two horns attached to the 70th medallion, and swirling magic leading up to the light on top. – https://www.micechat.com/417008-disneyland-news-kim-irvine-exits-coco-avatar-expand-construction-update/ Disney giveth and Disney taketh away. The fountains in the moat in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle appear to have been removed. The fountains were installed for the Disney100 celebration and were expected to stay after, but they are now gone. – https://www.micechat.com/417008-disneyland-news-kim-irvine-exits-coco-avatar-expand-construction-update/ The “main” location of Earl of Sandwich has a closing date. July 25th marks the end of Earl in the former La Brea Bakery location, leaving the temporary “pop-up” location by the old ESPN Zone building. The final location for Earl of Sandwich, near the D-Lander shop is still under construction. – https://www.micechat.com/417008-disneyland-news-kim-irvine-exits-coco-avatar-expand-construction-update/ SnackChat: Pride Nite Foodie Guide – https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/disney-eats-foodie-guide-to-pride-nite-at-disneyland-2025/ Discussion Topic: D23 Disney Archives and Studio Tour

Join Erik and Tage this week as they are joined by Bryan and Olivia as they discuss their favorite Jungle Cruise jokes, what stunt shows the would make based off of an existing IP, what chain restaurants they would add to the parks, and the rides, shows, and experiences they think Disney never should have done. Support the podcast by going to https://www.thehubcrawl.com/support. Question 1: Although I'm sure there's more to it, the story goes that they started adding jokes to The Jungle Cruise after Walt heard a family say they didn't want to ride it because they had already done it before. Even as we approach its 70th anniversary along with the park, they're still constantly coming up with new jokes. My question is, what's your favorite Jungle Cruise joke? Question 2: I have Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular on my mind. If you could make a stunt show off another Disney property, what would it be? Question 3: DTD 2.0 seems to be adding in more chain restaurants/stores. What chain restaurant (can be a local or national chain) would you add into a Disney park/resort, where would it go, would it have a theme etc. Question 4: What is a ride/show/expereince that Disney Parks should never have done in the parks? Bonus Question: Alright - the inspiration for this is somewhat selfish as I am working on my "must do list" for WDW and it got me curious - what are your top 3 non- theme park must do things when visiting DLR or WDW. It can be something at any of the hotels, Disney Springs, Downtown Disney, etc? Basically anything that is on Disney property but not inside the gates of a one of the 6 theme parks.

“I thought I saw a specter at your shoulder.”Ian Seabrook, acclaimed underwater cinematographer behind upcoming Last Breath and next year's live-action Moana, joins us to dive deep into the 1965 James Bond classic Thunderball. With decades of experience filming beneath the waves, including recent work on Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Old, and Jungle Cruise, Seabrook shares fascinating insights about his journey from amateur underwater photographer to Hollywood cinematographer, and why Thunderball remains such an influential film in his career. From the groundbreaking 10-minute underwater battle sequence to the technological innovations that made filming underwater possible in the 1960s, we explore how Thunderball pushed the boundaries of what could be achieved on camera beneath the waves. Seabrook offers unique perspective on how underwater filming has evolved from the days of pure practical effects to modern CGI, while discussing his work on recent films like Last Breath and the vital importance of creating safe, comfortable environments for actors working underwater. The conversation spans everything from early influences like National Geographic magazines to legendary underwater filmmaker Ricou Browning (who directed Thunderball's underwater sequences and famously played the Creature in Creature from the Black Lagoon) to the challenges of directing actors underwater and building trust with performers who may be facing their fears in an unfamiliar environment.Whether you're a James Bond fan or simply interested in the craft of filmmaking, this discussion illuminates why Thunderball remains a landmark achievement in underwater cinematography. Ian's passion for his craft and deep knowledge of both the technical and artistic aspects of underwater filming made for an engaging conversation about this classic film that helped establish underwater action sequences in modern cinema.LinksFind Ian on his website, on IMDb, or on InstagramWatch this on Apple or Amazon, or find other places at JustWatchScript OptionsTheatrical trailerOriginal Material and on AudibleLetterboxd Learn how to support our show and The Next Reel's family of film podcasts by becoming a member. J.D. Payne & Patrick McKay have been writing together for nearly 25 years, collaborating on over 20 screenplays, including STAR TREK BEYOND for J.J. Abrams, JUNGLE CRUISE for Disney, and their 2017 Blacklist script ESCAPE. In season two of their show, THE RINGS OF POWER, Sauron has returned. Cast out by Galadriel, without army or ally, the rising Dark Lord must now rely on his own cunning to rebuild his strength and oversee the creation of the Rings of Power, which will allow him to bind all the peoples of Middle-earth to his sinister will. Building on season one's epic scope and ambition, the new season plunges even its most beloved and vulnerable characters into a rising tide of darkness, challenging each to find their place in a world that is increasingly on the brink of calamity. In this interview, we talk about their collaborative partnership, the process of pitching the LORD OF THE RINGS series, their approach to adapting Tolkien's work, and balancing the needs of both die-hard fans and new viewers. This is a project that has been progressing through versions for the last year at Disney California Adventure. It appears the resort has landed on a system that will work for them. The new gates allow guests to scan their own tickets and take a photo if one is not on file, allowing entrance with a valid park ticket and reservation. The new system should cut down on the amount of cast needed at the entrance to the parks and could result in faster entry for experienced guests. – Disneyland Update – Tiger Unleashed, Gate Update & Legal Fallout A missing element has returned to the Jungle Cruise. The temple that the Bengal Tiger was housed in has been restored. The previous show scene was removed after the elements and time had taken it's toll. The lagoon area has been under construction for months, with no clear explanation on what was being done. The meet and greet area is still under refurbishment. – Disneyland Update – Tiger Unleashed, Gate Update & Legal Fallout Cast members who were working at the resort when Measure L was passed will be getting some back pay. This podcast originally aired in October 2022 but recent texts with Ian about music and dogs and life reminded me of how good this is and that it merits re-release. Since the original broadcast Ian, who is an underwater cinematographer, has worked on "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny", "Shogun", "Wednesday" (a Tim Burton offering) and "Last Breath", which premiers in February 2025. Ian and I have spent a good amount of time working on a documentary together and perhaps in the next chapter, the one titled "Whatever Comes Next", we might see if a logical conclusion exists and can push it to the finish line. ___________Ian Seabrook returns to the podcast after a three-year hiatus. Ian is an award winning Underwater Director of Photography in the motion picture and television industry who first appeared on Episode 55. At that time he was in Utah to document the production and release of REFUGE, the first large book produced by NonProphet. This year Ian's return coincided with the printing of POISON so we strong-armed him into making a short film about that.Ian's underwater credits include “Batman v Superman”, “Deadpool 2” and “Jungle Cruise”, five episodes of the TV series, "See", and he was also the second unit cinematographer for Zack Snyder's "Army Of The Dead". More recently his work on "The Rescue" earned several cinematography awards, which we discuss intensively in this current episode. We start this talk with an in-depth review of the underwater shots in "Man of Steel", and simple behind-the-scenes things like how to keep personnel safe in the tank while the SFX crew sets the water on fire. Ian also discusses about the necessity of appropriate clothing, nutrition and fitness for long shooting days in water that is constantly extracting heat from one's body. The conversation shifts towards the current state of filmmaking and how it feels like cinema is a disposable medium these days (very different than in the 70s) and the sheer volume of output is shocking ... quantity vs quality diluted by frequency. We do a drive-by on the unreality of Reality TV and the difference between true documentary film and docu-drama or docu-fiction projects that are "dramatized" to "improve" the story. In an unusual twist, Michael brings up some of the positive aspects of new and social media but don't blink or you'll miss them.In review, Ian's descriptions of shooting underwater sequences for "The Rescue" are riveting, and easily worth the price of a listen.Ian's website:https://www.dorsalfin.net/

Along the way, you'll hear about lily dippin', jokulhlaup, 34-degree water, quicksand, training runs, Little Skittle, Scropbook, the Jungle Cruise, June Bug, and an amazing 180-degree change on a very serious topic. This deal goes on sale October 22nd. – https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/50-kids-disneyland-ticket-savings-on-hotel-stays/ Some good news for those of you who didn't want Avatar in the Hollywood Pictures Backlot area. Micechat reports that locations for the new Coco and Avatar projects have been in flux. After studying the crowd flow on Pixar Pier, there may not be enough room for an extended queue where the planned Coco attraction would be located. It was suggested to move the Coco attraction to Hollywood Land, which would allow for Monsters, Inc. to be saved as Coco would move into the Hollywood and Dine location. This leaves the Avatar project without a home for now. – https://www.micechat.com/399618-disneyland-update-project-switch-a-roo-construction-price-hikes-too/ The Jungle Cruise has returned from it's two week refurbishment. We had hoped that the tiger's stone surroundings would have returned, but they have not. However, both African bull elephants are back, the piranhas are functional again, and overall looks in good shape. – https://www.micechat.com/399618-disneyland-update-project-switch-a-roo-construction-price-hikes-too/ The lounge in the Disneyland Hotel's Fantasyland Tower has a new name! The Broken Spell Lounge is located next to Goofy's Kitchen and has a darker vibe, with forest accents and dark colors. Disney did not announce the name change, or put up a new sign, but they did update the navigational signage around the hotel. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2024/10/01/did-disney-just-quietly-change-a-restaurant-name/ While you are stopping into the Market House on Main Street for a morning beverage, be sure to pick up the newest sweet creation. These brownies were available at the 2023 Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival. This recipe has just a few ingredients and looks fun for the whole family to create and eat! – https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/disney-eats-celebration-chocolate-fudge-brownie-recipe/ For the select few who will be taking a VIP tour, there are some new exclusive items. A new line of VIP tour merchandise featuring the iconic plaid design is available to guests taking a VIP tour. The new items can only be purchased the day of the tour and are limited to one of each item per guest. The Holiday Gingerbread Workshop has guests of all ages build and decorate a gingerbread house at the Jazz Kitchen Coastal Grill & Patio.
