Michael tells the story of the UK big beat DJ and producer's sample-heavy, star-making 1998 smash. Steve Reidell of The Hood Internet joins the conversation. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
This week the podcast is in league with Satan as we draft our good buddies Mike Lustig and Steve Reidell to help us pick THE BEST devil songs to listen to during the Halloween season. PLUS: More Halloween horror movie picks, the Satanic Temple of Illinois, and Ben remixes episode #138.
The guys welcome returning champion (and LIFERS secret weapon that you may remember from episode 5 — aka “that Genesis episode”) Steve Reidell(!) back to the podcast to talk about last week's LIFERS live shows, Scott's trip to Tribeca, Dolly Parton's coleslaw, the age of Carol O'Connor, Zach Waxer, the origin story of Stv Slv, Chip Z'nuff's car, and the top 3 songs to play if you happen to be DJing a prom in 1982. This episode is simply breathtaking.
After a couple years of dipping our collective toe into this whole podcast thing — we decided to dip our toe into the whole LIVE podcast thing. Recorded live at the Gman Tavern in Chicago, IL. last Monday — this episode has it all. Herb making fruity drinks, Un-punk Gabe getting cute with a Chipotle dung-bag, Steve Reidell making shotgun noises, Kelly Wey pouring a few “One Shots with Scott”, Ben hosting a few rounds of Lifers Against Humanity, some one-man acoustic jams, and —to Ben's disbelief— a surprise visit from Chip Z'nuff! PLUS!!! A terrific audience that made us feel good and laughed at all of our stupid jokes. You may ask yourself: What sort of person would show up to this particular brand of nonsense? As it turns out, a pretty great sort of person. And we had a blast.
Air Credits (Clinton Sandifer aka ShowYouSuck & Steve Reidell aka half of The Hood Internet) contemplate artistic legacies, tell me about one of the best shows of their career, and I act out their hell as a host introducing them at a show. We also talk about the nature of epiphanies as Clinton discusses the fog of his entire school career and Steve relates the three moments women gave him advice he still returns to. Check out the extended episode at https://www.patreon.com/davemaher (patreon.com/davemaher), which includes a lot more talk about their music in the intro, their "Funeral Planning" segment, and an extended riff on surly sound guys. This week's episode is devoted to song structure. Specifically, the song structure of “It's Gonna Get Better” — an unheralded (and admittedly minor) Genesis deep cut that Scott has been recently obsessed with. We recruited Genesis uber-fan Steve Reidell —of Hood Internet and “Duke: 40th Anniversary” fame— to help us out and lend some Collins context (a tip: You might want to listen to “It's Gonna Get Better” before you listen to this episode). The guys also conduct a full break-down of “Abacab” to determine what the song's title should rightfully be. Plus: Listener questions are answered and Scott ponders the one year anniversary of Local H's last club show. https://www.stevereidell.com/ https://twitter.com/hoodinternet?s=21 http://www.thehoodinternet.com/ Local H Merch: bit.ly/3du68Ow 70 Movies We Saw in the 70s with Scott & Ben: bit.ly/3qBEOl6

STEVE REIDELL is a typography enthusiast and a Chicago musician: he is one-half of DJ/production duo The Hood Internet, and one-half of the band Air Credits alongside fellow Chicagoan ShowYouSuck. He formerly worked as the in-house art director at Metro and Smart Bar. The First Time is CHIRP Radio’s Live Lit and Music series. It pairs a reader’s personal story about a specific "first time" -- a different "first" for each show -- with a song performance. This unique structure allows the story to resonate with audience members as they experience the accompanying song covered by The First Time Four. The band takes special care to perform unexpected song arrangements, so it is hard to tell which the audience enjoys more: the story or the song. The First Time is produced and directed by Julie Mueller with Assistant Producer Bobby Evers and Host Jenn Sodini. Podcast produced and recorded by Jenn Rourke. Engineering by Tony Baker. Now Arby's and The Neverending Story have something in common. One half of Chicago-based mashup pioneers The Hood Internet, Steve SLV (aka Steve Reidell) is a prolific music producer with a network that spans the globe. TBH, most musicians in the northern midwest kinda need just know him as a rite of passage (plus he's funny). Hear us discuss teamwork and wisdom, fantasy-fueled 80s in the Twin Cities, and his new project Air Credits with rapper Showyousuck. It's a geeky goodie!
On June 7, 2017 Steve Reidell of The Hood Internet and Clinton Sandifer A.K.A. Showyousuck spoke with DJ Nursic at Warehouse Live. From the 10 year anniversary of The Hood Internet, the importance of Houston's hip-hop scene, and the new collaboration Air Credits (The Hood Internet x Showyousuck) this is a chat for all the hip-hop heads out there. www.facebook.com/thehoodinternet www.facebook.com/showyousuck www.facebook.com/djnursic
Aaron Brink & Steve Reidell of Chicago-based DJ duo The Hood Internet join Chuck to talk about making music mashups, touring as DJs compared to touring in a band, ska, doing random side projects for fun and having them lead to serious rewards, the issue of stealing versus sampling, and much more.
