This week on the Anime+ Podcast, Aray and Aunn throw caution (and logic) to the wind as they dive into a chaotic brainstorm session full of wild, ridiculous, and maybe genius(?) half-baked anime industry ideas. From mood based streaming to a revolutionized anime production studio, no idea is too dumb—or too brilliant—for this episode.
Get ready to spark up your nostalgia because this week on No More Late Fees, Danielle, Jackie, and their cousin Marc are rolling deep into the ultimate nineties and 2000s stoner movie showdown — a Mount Kushmore of cinematic greatness! From the pure munchie-fueled chaos of Half Baked to the epic fast-food quest in Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, the gang debates which faded flicks deserve the highest honors. Expect a lot of laughs, a few honorary shout-outs (Super Troopers, anyone?), and enough quotable moments to fill a Red and Blue Slurpee bucket. But that's not all — between movie drafts, they dive into chaotic snack dreams, questionable 90s playlists (who is Jimmy Ray?), and ultimate "Friday" fantasies featuring Adam Sandler, Regina Hall, and, naturally, copious amounts of Funyuns and Surge. Plus, Marc stocks an imaginary Blockbuster shelf with his employee pics. It's a haze of hijinks, heart, and hilarious hot takes you won't want to miss.—No More Late Fees https://nomorelatefeespodcast.com909-601-NMLF (6653)—Follow Us on Social:Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/nomorelatefees TikTokhttps://www.tiktok.com/@nomorelatefees Facebookhttps://www.facebook.com/nomorelatefeesYoutubehttps://www.youtube.com/@nomorelatefees Twitterhttps://x.com/NoMoreLateFees —CONQUERingmyconquering.com10% Off Code: JACKIE10—NostaBeautyhttps://nostabeauty.com 20% Off Code: NMLF—Marc's Previous EpisodesSnootchie Bootchies, it's Marc!https://nomorelatefeespodcast.com/episode/snootchie-bootchies-its-marcJay and Silent Bob Strike Backhttps://nomorelatefeespodcast.com/episode/jay-and-silent-bob-strike-backMarc Strikes Back!https://nomorelatefeespodcast.com/episode/marc-strikes-back-parenthood-side-hustles-and-matt-damon-cameosEurotriphttps://nomorelatefeespodcast.com/episode/eurotrip
It's April 23rd. In the spirit of 4/20 ending up on Easter Sunday we are rerunning the show with legendary comedian and weed smoker Tommy Chong from 2022 which was reported in Variety, Yahoo, Deadline and all over the internet news sites at the time Mark and Nicole welcomed back Tommy Chong who was apparently so high he forgot who they were but had a great conversation about breaking up and getting back together with Cheech, almost going broke while filming Up In Smoke, discovering Pee Wee Herman and Michael Winslow, how Robert Altman inspired Next Movie, what its like to smoke weed with Willie Nelson, Gary Busey, and a celebrity you would never expect, how he became the squirrel master in prison for real after playing one in Half Baked, how he is planning on adopting Dark Mark and many of his fans, how Matrix actor Marcus Chong adopted him,if he will be in That 70s Show's new reboot, how proud he is of Rae Dawn Chong's success and how much he met his wife and still loves her after all of these years and so much more... We talked about smoking weed too.... There was a time in the 90s when you'd watch something because there wasn't many of them. A new superhero movie? They don't make those, sign me up! A vampire film in a movie theater? Oh my! And? Stoner movies. They were few and far between and you'd just watch the one good "Cheech and Chong" movie if you wanted to watch people get high while you were getting high. Then came..."Half Baked".Four friends smoke weed all the time and live together? I think? One of them feeds a police horse hundreds of dollars worth of treats, the horse dies, and he goes to jail as a cop killer. What else happens? Watch and find out! Behold the baby versions of Dave Chapelle, Jim Bruer, Gulliermo Diaz and Harland Williams. Happy 420!
Can you believe it, she did it again! Ma Hinshaw is clearly becoming big time and can't spend any time hanging out with Mike and Matt. Today the boys chat about A24's most ambitious war film to date, Warfare written and directed by Ray Mendoza and Alex Garland. Not Iraq war topics include Pappy Van Winkle, Otter, and IUD VS IED. For next week we roll back the clock for Episode #420 (we swear we had no idea episode 420 was going to fall on the week of 420!!) with a legacy cast of Half Baked (1998) starring Dave Chappelle, Guillermo Diaz, Jim Breuer, and Harland Williams. The Treaty Principals Bill is on its way to the gallows as the select committee came back Friday and suggested it wasn't getting its support. It was voted past first reading but it wont get past round two. What I learned out of it was several things. 1) This country is not up for much of a debate around complex or big ideas. We are myopic in our approach. We hate and we love and middle ground is irrelevant. There was a venom and aggressiveness to a lot of submissions. 2) From those who submitted that actually knew what they were talking about, as opposed to merely having an opinion, it very quickly became clear there is massive disagreement over interpretation. These were scholars and lawyers and historians, in other words, "experts". They couldn't agree. That to me was the big clue. If the “learned” can't agree, surely that means we need something, legally speaking, to define what we are dealing with. There is a major case in Christchurch at the moment between Ngai Tahu and the Crown over water rights. It is in the court because there is nothing definitive in law as to what the Treaty does, and doesn't, do. We seem to accept that Parliament is the ultimate court, yet on the Treaty we appear happy to litigate for decade after decade, have a tribunal that is wildly tainted and nothing like a proper court, and each and every time we dabble in this area you and I are picking up the tab. The other outworking of course is the ongoing grief and angst. This is a very divided nation. This is not a harmonious nation with an agreed legal stance around the Treaty. But putting it out to a vote the way Act wanted was a mistake It's too important for that. Pik N Mix democracy never works. The other thing I learned politically is it should never have seen the light of day if it wasn't going all the way. This goes to the Chris Luxon negotiation skills. It should have been either dead before it started, or it got the full treatment. What we got was a half-baked, deeply divided mess that ended up achieving nothing. Even those who argue it started the debate are wrong. Because if it's floated for another day we won't carry on where we left off. We will have to start all over again.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

What is a transiting brown dwarf, why are they so rare, and how do you find them? Equally important, how do you make a good French macaron? To find out, Dr. Charles Liu and co-host Allen Liu welcome astronomer and astrophysicist Dr. Theron Carmichael. As always, though, we start off with the day's joyfully cool cosmic thing: a recent paper in the Astrophysical Journal possibly linking a supernova that took place millions of years ago and bombarded Earth with cosmic rays and radioactive iron with a flurry of virus mutation that took place in deep ancient lakes on our planet. After Theron brings up the Chicxulub meteor impact (the one that spelled trouble for dinosaurs) and how astronomical events can affect the evolution of life here on Earth, we naturally turn to the effects of extreme radiation events and… the mighty Marvel mutants themselves, the X-Men! Then it's time to talk about Dr. Carmichael's bread and butter: detecting and categorizing transiting brown dwarfs, an exceedingly rare form of the “failed stars” which actually orbit other stars. Theron explains that while we know how stars and planets form, we don't exactly understand the formation of brown dwarfs, which exist in the gray region between a star and a planet. Allen reminds us how protoplanetary discs form, while Theron points out that the distinctions may not be as clear as we used to think. Our first student question comes from Ani, who asks, “There are a lot more small, faint stars than big bright stars. Does that mean there are a huge number of brown dwarfs in the galaxy?” Yes, according to Dr. Carmichael. And not only are there more of them, but Theron explains that they last longer, too. Finding them is challenging, but it's become easier thanks to TESS, the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite mission that's been running for over 7 years, well past its operational lifespan. Our next student question comes from Josie, who asks, “Could there be life on brown dwarfs?” While brown dwarfs are colder than stars, they are still too hot to form and sustain the molecules we believe are necessary for life. And while those molecules are in fact present in the atmosphere of brown dwarfs – along with titanium oxide clouds – the pressure and temperature conditions of brown dwarfs make life as we know it unlikely. Theron explains that the atmospheric conditions of brown dwarfs are not dissimilar to Jupiter, as opposed to those on Jovian moons like Europa that we're going to explore when the Europa Clipper reaches its destination in 2030. After that, Theron tells us about the annual MIT Mystery Hunt, his long-time love of baking, and the astronomical value of macarons. (For his French macaron recipe, please visit our Patreon page.) Allen shares how he has made cookies conforming to the Einstein tile, and Charles mentions a few scientists who also love to bake. Theron explains how baking and brown dwarf research use the same parts of his brain. We even get to see a video clip of him making macarons! To end the show, Theron tells us about the international working group he helps lead focused on learning more about transiting brown dwarfs. If you'd like to know more about Dr. Theron Carmichael, you can follow him on Twitter/X @TherBaer or his website, www.theroncarmichael.com. This week on Comics and Chronic Jake & Cody are in for another Half Baked episode & they're discussing the Robert Eggers film Nosferatu starring Lily-Rose Depp, Willem Dafoe, Bill Skarsgård, Nicholas Hoult, Emma Corrin, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, & Ralph Ineson. “ A gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake.” But first, Cody shows off his Christmas gifts. Is this movie over hyped? When compared to Bram Stroker's Dracula the answer absolutely! This movie is NOT the best movie of the year. Werewolves are sexy AF. Is Robert Eggers hit or miss? The Witch & The Lighthouse are way scarier. Jake fell asleep during the movie. The movie is beautifully shot, has great acting, is sexy, and amazing cinematography but still doesn't BUSS. NEPO babies make a return this episode. Does Nosferatu cuck Nicholas Hoult? Does the movie have enough vampire lore? Cody mispronounces Guillermo del Toro's name for the millionth time. One of the byproducts of doing a show like this for as long as I've been doing it is that it's really hard to shut off your brain. I'm always thinking about topic ideas, ways to connect facts and trivia, reading a lot of books, talking to a lot of people, and otherwise trying to come up with a constant stream of topics we can discuss. The result of all this research and thinking and writing are some ideas and perspectives on music, music history, how music is made, how it's consumed and distributed, and how seemingly small things have led to big changes…that's one thing. Another is the opinions formed by observing the opinions of others…why do people like some things and hate others?... another is a list of ideas that aren't quite fully formed…it seems like I've almost grasped a concept. Still, it doesn't feel right yet—but I feel there's a germ of truth somewhere. I've also learned that when you're unsure about something, source the crowd…you might like the answers, but it's better than living in your own head. So, let me bounce a few of these things off you, and you can tell me if I'm onto something, if I'm off base, or if I've completely lost the plot… I call this episode “theories, thoughts, and half-baked ideas”. On Sunday, we studied powers and principalities as described by the apostle, Paul. Now, a listener asks: All these gods seem more like metaphors than real beings. Do we really need to believe in them if we want to believe the Bible? The NOW roundtable of Suzie Lind, Mike Erre, Tim Timmons and Kevin Dixon explore the theology of the Elohim. In our second Half Baked episode pf the week, Anthony & Cody discuss The Night Eaters: She Eats the Night by writer Marjorie Liu and illustrator Sana Takeda. “Chinese American twins Milly and Billy are having a tough time. On top of the multiple failures in their personal and professional lives, they're struggling to keep their restaurant afloat. Their parents, Ipo and Keon force them to clean up the house next door—a ruin that was the scene of a grisly murder—the twins are in for a nasty surprise. A night of terror, gore, and supernatural mayhem reveals that there is much more to Ipo and her children than meets the eye.” But first, are Cody & Anthony the true backbone of the podcast? Is this comic relatable? Does this have A24 vibes? Is family trauma the backbone of this comic book & A24? Is this book as funny as it is terrifying? How does Bruce Lee factor into this book? At its core, this is a book about generational trauma and a wholesome family tale that deals with immigration. Would Anthony send his baby daughter into a house of demons to get her to grow up? Was a large man shrieking like a girl on a dirt road the closest thing to a cryptid Cody has ever seen? Is Appalachia one of the oldest palaces on earth? And what the fuck does that even mean? Only way to find out the answers to these pressing questions is to tune in! This week we've got a couple of Half Baked episodes starting with Anthony & Jake and they're discussing the Image comic Geiger by critically acclaimed writer Geoff Johns & artist Gary Frank with colorist Brad Anderson. Per image: "Set in the years after a nuclear war ravaged the planet, desperate outlaws battle for survival in a world of radioactive chaos. Out past the poisoned wasteland lives a man even the Nightcrawlers and Organ People fear. Some name him Joe Glow, others call him the Meltdown Man. But his name...is Geiger." But first Jake reveals a new action figure. Plus, is Geoff Johns one of Anthony's most influential comic writers? Does this book have a lot of the usual post-apocalyptic/nuclear wasteland elements? Does the art in this book tell a bigger story than the writing? Does this character borrow from Hulk, Ghost Rider, and Nightwing? Is Geoff Johns an edgelord? Is this book sad? Is this book a quick read in the best way? Is the world building in this comic one we want to see more of? Will Cody enjoy the fact that families die in this comic? Tune in to learn all about GEIGER!
