Davenport, the New Jersey Attorney General, Matthew Platkin, issued a subpoena to a faith-based, pro-life, nonprofit, requiring that it turn over years of sensitive information, including the names and contact information of its donors. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Algerian authorities have shut down virtually all Protestant churches Muslim authorities in Algeria, Africa have shut down nearly all Protestant churches in the country since January 2025. The finding comes from a new report by the European Centre for Law and Justice.  Algeria's Christian community has been steadily growing since the 1990s. Most of these believers are evangelical Protestants. However, the North African country imposed restrictions on non-Muslim worship in 2006. And most Protestant churches lost their legal status in 2012. These Christians now have little to no freedom of expression in the Muslim-majority nation. The report stated, “Any expression of Christian faith may be regarded as . . . an offence against the precepts of Islam, and may result in prosecution.”  In Matthew 5:10, Jesus said, “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven.” Kenyan court rejects abortion as a “right” A court of appeal in Kenya  ruled against abortion last Friday. The court struck down a 2022 high court ruling that declared abortion was a constitutional right.  However, the constitution of the East African nation states that every person has the right to life and that life begins at conception. Last week's ruling affirmed that abortion is not a fundamental right.  Calum Miller, a pro-life doctor and ethicist, wrote on X, “This is a HUGE win in one of Africa's biggest legal cases ever.” United Arab Emirates wants exporting oil independence The United Arab Emirates, which borders Oman to the east and northeast, and Saudi Arabia to the southwest, is withdrawing from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, or OPEC. The major oil producer made the announcement Tuesday and plans to withdraw on May 1. OPEC has limited the United Arab Emirates' oil production to about three million barrels per day. The Emirates wants to reach five million barrels a day by next year as global demand increases.  OPEC is led by Saudi Arabia. The group used to control over half of the world's oil production. Now, it controls less than a third of the production. The United States has become one of its biggest rivals in recent years. King Charles III emphasizes Christian faith before Congress Britain's King Charles III addressed the U.S. Congress in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday. It's the first time a British monarch addressed Congress since Queen Elizabeth II did so in 1991. King Charles emphasized international cooperation between the United States and the United Kingdom as well as the shared faith of the two nations. Listen. CHARLES: “Mr. Speaker, for many here, and for myself, the Christian faith is a firm anchor and daily inspiration that guides us, not only personally, (applause) guides us not only personally, but together as members of our community.” “So, to the United States of America, on your 250th birthday, let our two countries re-dedicate ourselves to each other, in the selfless service of our peoples, and of all the peoples of the world. God bless the United States and God bless the United Kingdom.” (applause and cheers) Psalm 33:12 reminds us, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people He has chosen as His own inheritance.”  Supreme Court ruled in favor of Christian pregnancy centers The U.S. Supreme Court ruled unanimously in favor of a group of Christian pregnancy centers yesterday.  The ruling allows First Choice Women's Resource Centers to challenge the state of New Jersey in federal court. State officials hit the pro-life group with an unconstitutional, coercive subpoena.  Attorney Erin Hawley with Alliance Defending Freedom said, “In this resounding victory, the Supreme Court held to its long-standing precedent of recognizing that the Constitution protects First Choice, and its donors, from demands by a hostile state official to disclose donor identities and contact information.”    Protestantism's net gain in Latin America And finally, Pew Research released a report on how religious switching has affected Protestants and Catholics. Religious switching refers to when an adult identifies with a religion that is different from the one they were raised in.  Catholicism has lost more people than it gained from religious switching in nearly all surveyed countries. People who leave Catholicism tend to become Protestant or religiously disaffiliated.  Meanwhile, Protestantism has seen a net gain in about as many countries as it has seen a net loss. In particular, Protestantism has had a net gain in Latin America, which is comprised of 20 countries, primarily Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, and South America. The Attorney General of New Jersey has specifically singled out this organization due to its religious beliefs and pro-life stance. New Jersey thus issued a sweeping and unjustified subpoena, demanding extensive documentation from the nonprofit. This places a heavy burden on the organization, forcing it to allocate its limited resources to comply or face legal consequences. The term crisis pregnancy center (CPC) refers to anti-abortion facilities that mislead, confuse, delay, misinform, and purposefully re-direct pregnant people looking for education and services, including abortion care. They are often referred to as fake clinics, but they are beginning to offer some medical services. Garnet Henderson and Susan Rinkunas, journalists and co-founders of Autonomy News, sit down to talk with us about the new, harmful deceptions that CPCs are rolling out nationwide.CPCs claim, without good evidence, an in-progress abortion can be halted through an “abortion pill reversal,” or the placement of progesterone between the ingestion of mifepristone and misoprostol—the two medications needed a medication abortion. This is based off myths of anecdotal regret, not scientific studies. In fact, the medical consensus is clear: the "abortion pill reversal" pseudoscience is ineffective and potentially dangerous. A case this Supreme Court term, First Choice Women's Resource Centers v. Platkin, stemmed from a subpoena from New Jersey Attorney General Matt Platkin to the First Choice chain of CPCs, seeking evidence on their abortion pill reversal claims. They have fought the subpoena up to the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, the "One Big Beautiful Bill" has cut Planned Parenthood out of Medicaid. Abortion providers are forced to make a choice: continue providing abortions and remain ineligible to participate in Medicaid, or halt abortion services. The Christians are South Sudanese. Police have been targeting Ethiopian and South Sudanese nationals for deportation as civil war rages in Sudan. Muslim extremists in the country are also calling for officials to arrest South Sudanese Christians in particular.  A local church leader told Morning Star News, “There is a growing fear among the South Sudanese Christians. So, they remain indoors in order to avoid being arrested.” Please pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ in Sudan. The Northeast African nation is ranked fifth on the Open Doors World Watch List of the most difficult countries to be a Christian.  Sudanese landslide killed 1,000 people Speaking of Sudan, the country suffered one of its worst natural disasters in recent history.  On Sunday, a landslide wiped out the village of Tarasin in the western region of Darfur. Only one person survived, leaving an estimated 1,000 people dead. The landslide came after weeks of heavy rainfall in the mountainous region. Getting aid to the area is already difficult due to the ongoing civil war. It also distributed 8.6 million printed New Testaments and over 118 million printed portions of Scripture.  Brazil led the way in printed and digital distribution, followed by India, China, Nigeria, and the Philippines.  Brazilian homeschool mom lost her case in court Earlier this week, a Brazilian court heard a case of a mom prosecuted for homeschooling her son.   Regiane Cichelero was facing fines of $20,000 and threats of losing custody of her child, for daring to choose home education on religious grounds.   Alliance Defending Freedom International has taken up the case. Her legal counsel, Julio Pohl, points out that “No parent should fear state punishment for choosing to homeschool their child. Regiane made a lawful and conscientious decision to teach her son at home. We are hopeful that the court will affirm her rights and take an important step toward protecting parental rights in Brazil.”   Sadly, Cichelero lost the case.  She was ordered to re-enroll her child in Brazilian public school and ordered to pay the equivalent of $20,000 for not complying. She said, “We will take the case to the Supreme Federal Court and from there, if we continue to receive a ‘no,' we will take it to the Inter-American Court of Human Rights.” She had a special message for the Christian homeschoolers who have been praying for her. Cichelero said, “To you who prayed, my sincere thanks. Remember, prayers never return empty. The Lord is sovereign over all things. The Lord has called us for this time, for this cause, for this moment. We are writing history. … He is still the God who controls everything. He has not abandoned us!” US military strike kills 11 Venezuelan terrorists in boat with narcotics The United States conducted a military strike on Tuesday on a drug boat from Venezuela. On Truth Social, President Trump wrote, “The strike occurred while the terrorists were at sea in International waters transporting illegal narcotics, heading to the United States. The strike resulted in 11 terrorists killed in action.” Listen to comments from President Trump. TRUMP: “On the boat, you had massive amounts of drugs. We have tapes of them speaking. It was massive amounts of drugs coming into our country to kill a lot of people. Everybody fully understands that. In fact, you see it, you see the bags of drugs all over the boat. And they were hit obviously. They won't be doing it again. And I think a lot of other people won't be doing it again when they watch that tape. We have to protect our country, and we're going to.” President Trump said the terrorists belonged to Tren de Aragua. The Venezuelan gang is responsible for mass murder, drug trafficking, sex trafficking, and acts of violence.  Trump supports Christian pregnancy centers The Trump administration is supporting Christian pregnancy centers in New Jersey in a case before the U.S. Supreme Court. First Choice Women's Resource Centers is challenging New Jersey's unconstitutional investigation into its operations. Erin Hawley, Senior Counsel with Alliance Defending Freedom, said, “New Jersey's attorney general is targeting First Choice—a ministry that provides parenting classes, free ultrasounds, baby clothes, and more to its community—simply because of its pro-life views. The Constitution protects First Choice and its donors from demands by a hostile state official to disclose their identities.” 50% of Congress are people of Biblical principle The Christian Employers Alliance released their new report card on U.S. Congressional leaders. The index scores lawmakers on a 0-to-100 scale based on their alignment with Biblical principles. Republicans tended to score better than Democrats. Of the 535 members of Congress, half scored 50% or better. Margaret Luculano is the president of the Christian Employers Alliance. She told the Washington Examiner, “Our faith is the foundation of how we live and lead, and lawmakers need that same compass as they face complex policies. That's why we launched the Biblical Business Index — a first-of-its-kind tool bringing together theologians and policy experts to connect Scripture with today's legislation.” Wisdom says in Proverbs 8:15, “By me kings reign, and rulers decree justice.” Gen Z & Millennials attend church more often than older Americans And finally, the Barna Group released new research from its ongoing State of the Church initiative. The report found Christians from younger generations are attending church more frequently than before. They also attend more often than Christians from older generations.  Churchgoers from Gen Z attend 1.9 times per month, while Millennials attend 1.8 times per month. The average for U.S. churched adults is 1.6 per month. Also, Gen Z and Millennial churchgoers attend nearly twice as much as they did in 2020.
