Gus Fitzgerald was just 10 when he was swept out to sea in rough and wild surf conditions. His father calmly followed, walking down the beach. Then Gus realised, his dad wasn't going to save him. It was up to him. When he lost his father to cancer, Gus had to learn another lesson, how to stay afloat without him altogether. Warning: This episode contains some swearing. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander listeners are also advised it includes the name of someone who has died. This story was first told at SPUN Stories a live storytelling podcast created in Darwin by StoryProjects. The Producer for the ABC was Emma Gibbs. Ty and Gustav return once again and try to make a dent in the backlog of listener emails while they discuss a wide range of important matters such as the Bonanza theme song had words.   Tellito asks about what would happen if things had to get primitive and we had to start a tribe.  Who would be the chief? The boys head back through some eighties movie nostalgia as Ty references"The Idol Maker" and Gustav pines for "Streets of Fire", "Eddie and the Cruisers" and "The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai". Heef tells us about a disturbing family Christmas tradition. The guys discuss where they would want to live if they could live anywhere. Then Gus reads a list of nonsense from Trav that leads to sale barn talk. The dead ghost of Standman challenges Ty and Gus to rank the tv theme songs, which leads to the truth that the Bonanza theme song had words. Let us hear your sale barn stories, where you want to live (and why), if you have ever been haunted by a baby doll in a barn or what the best television theme songs are by sending an email to canyouhearmepod@gmail.com Follow us on Twitter @canyouhearmepod @realgustav @tywebb3000 @longmireheavy Find us on Tumblr and Instagram @canyouhearmepod The post The Bonanza Theme Song Had Words appeared first on Can You Hear Me?.

Ty and Gustav discuss crazy women, small town radio, international listeners.  Heavy wandered off again so it's just Gus, Ty and a bottle of brown drink as they stroll down  small town memory lane once again. To get the ball rolling, they debate whether or not Ty's glass of brown drink is either a tumbler or a high ball glass or some such.  Clearly neither of them knows what they are talking about, so if you would like to email us and explain how to tell glasses apart, we would welcome the feedback. Once again Ty and Gus talk about the late 70's/early 80's comedy phenomenon of SCTV.  Here is the Michael McDonald impersonation by Rick Moranis that Gus mentions ( but Gus is definitely wrong about the type of car he's driving): https://youtu.be/b0HzWMqLeiE Gus confesses that he knew Ty was the class comedian early on and Ty discusses his comedic influences and his own solo work at the time. They discuss their experiences listening to and love of small town radio from days gone past. Then things turn sort of serious as they discuss crazy women.  Particularly, they discuss a crazy girlfriend of Ty's from high school.  The stories would be a public service episode to share with any teenage boy so that they can learn from Ty's misspent youth.  They also explain the concept of the small town "Drag" Then Gus shares an email from one of their Australian listeners and that our international listener outreach is making progress.  Hopefully we will hear from more and more international voices.  And eventually Gus will get those t-shirts sent out. Join the guys for a special guest , a field report from the dirt track and much much more.  Since Ty is too busy with "paperwork",  long time friend of the show Ray Ranfill was kind enough to join us. Straight out of the gate, Gustav takes a stand against Grandy's and recalls a special moment that he and Heavy shared many moons ago at a 903 area code Grandy's. Then Gustav tries to establish some street cred with a story about how he frequents a  local taqueria.   And while he's all hopped up on food talk, he rails against mixing corn into other dishes. But the real focus of the show is the tale of Gus and Jay going to the Grayson County Speedway with Matt and St. Ginsburg.  Gustav was busy taking notes and asking long time racing enthusiast Jay questi0ns.  It was a fun night and Matt even won money!  But going back to food, Gus offers hot sports opinions about "the walking taco" Once again Gus brainstorms about a Greyhound bus trip and dreams of the possibilities for the show.  It will probably never happen, but if it does, then you will hear all about it.  Then Gus drifts into talk about FarmAid 92 and how he hopes to do an entire Farm Aid episode some time in the future. So send us your emails about bus trips, Cutlass Supremes or your fun at dirt tracks or drag races to canyouhearmepod@gmail.com Follow us on Twitter @canyouhearmepod @realgustav @tywebb3000 @longmireheavy Find us on Tumblr and Instagram @canyouhearmepod   Also be sure to check out Ty’s guest appearance on Megan’s Movie Podcast where they discuss The Breakfast Club.  Who knows how much longer till Ty and Megan start their own Captain and Tenille cover band.       The post Dirt Track appeared first on Can You Hear Me?.

The Tale of the Melted Fork

While Heavy Longmire is still out trapping muskrat, Ty and Gus got together to talk old game shows, share a story about a melted fork, kick around some hardware ideas and do a little dentist talk. Ty starts things off with a story about the former child actor, his jeep, a college cop, and some shade tree mechanics.  The shade tree mechanics lead Gus back to another co-worker from the previous episode's stories about their first job. Gus wonders about the species of grass which may contain the same chemical that is in vanilla and shows that he knows way too much about Hierochloe oderata.  The vanilla talk leads the boys down a path back to a vague and ultimately incorrect memory about an episode of Family Ties where someone drinks vanilla extract for the alcohol.  Gus and Ty are dead wrong on which character it was.  Be sure to listen to the outro to see if you can identify the very famous voice who actually did drink the vanilla extract. Recently Gus went to get his teeth cleaned and had a really bad time while on nitrous oxide.  Ty then drops a bomb shell on Gus which leaves Gus worried about how long Ty has left on this earth. Then Gus tells Ty about a trip to his parents where he saw his brother and how one thing led to another and then there was a smoker, a melted fork and some cussing.  That led to his brother doing some bourbon fueled welding to "fix" the melted fork. Ty shares the story of his grandmother on famous game show.  Once again they then dive into game show talk and fondly remember the Price is Right and the Gong Show.  Then they geek out over Tom Snyder and Joe Franklin for a while. So send us your emails about  game shows, bad trips and crap you've melted to canyouhearmepod@gmail.com Be sure to listen to listen to Gustav's guest appearance on Megan's Movie Podcast on the Blowout Podcast Network where he and Megan talk about Tombstone. It's a special episode this week with special guest Brad who joins the boys to talk robots, poor nutrition, pockets and a sad clown painting.  Brad wasn't feeling well, but he showed up for free burgers and a chance to see Ty's shining visage in person.  The professor is the co-host of the Below the Belt Podcast on the Blowout Podcast network, award winning historian, NPR guest and the author of Arredondo: Last Spanish Ruler of Texas and Northeastern New Spain To get things going, Gustav mourns the social media death of Clay from Partial Recall.  RIP Clay.  Brad explains how he carries around a laser pointer.  See if you are as confused as the boys are.  That leads Ty to ask about pocket habits and where each of the guys store their wallets, keys, phones and assorted items. There's some Sam Elliott talk which then leads to Nick Offerman talk and the greatness of Ron Swanson. Ty then offers up a hypothetical based on the movie "Passenger".  It didn't take long for the wheels to go off the rails in this discussion.  Brad loves Brokeback Mountain, but the guys have never seen it, but they take Brad's word for it.  The concept of a robosexual relationship while on space ship is bandied about. Gus had just heard the most recent episode of Brad's Below the Belt podcast and he is fascinated by the lack of knowledge about medicines by both Brad and Ryan.  That leads to fever talk and some scary nutritional practices by Brad, including him eating soup for breakfast. Then Gus unveils a special gift of a sad clown painting for Heavy.   There is a discussion about Family Ties and Tina Yothers.  Not really sure how that happened.  Then Brad tells a story about a celebrity interaction on Twitter.  Ty tries valiantly to make a Sade joke. The boys turn to emails.  Eduardo has an update to the frequent topic of trough urinals.  Gus reminds everyone about the episode of Tell Me Where to Turn where Glen tells his Devil's Bowl Speedway story. Brad tries haiku. Gus makes a stand as a cessati0nist and talks about his run in with painting of Jesus laughing. Then an email from listener Steve wraps things up.
