My 2 guests today created and will co-facilitate The Hour Before Dawn A Program for Inheritors of Wealth with Family Ties to the Nazi Regime who want to take ancestral responsibility and create a more just world. (https://www.irisbrilliant.com/the-hour-before-dawn) Iris Brilliant is a money coach based in Berlin, Germany. She guides wealthy people who are confused or conflicted about what to do with their money to create a deeply liberating vision and plan for their wealth. She has recently shaped her career to fight fascism globally. Justine Epstein is a facilitator and mentor for people with inherited wealth who want to examine the histories of their ancestors and money, and take meaningful action to address these legacies. Her approach combines ancestral research, contextual history, political education, wealth redistribution and divestment, with embodied mindfulness, ritual, connection to the natural world, and creative expression. They both come from wealthy families. You're about to hear how they've done intense personal work AND justice work. I'm swooning on that combination and it's a combination of work I aspire to do. You'll hear me ask them some challenging questions. You know, the stuff people who have wealth don't usually talk about in public? They talk about that stuff with a ton of transparency. I think it's courageous. Here's some of what we talked about: Iris and Justine's journeys with generational examination and healing around wealth Navigating wealth and relationships Shame, guilt, and transformative healing and action Building their collaborative partnership Creating and facilitating their program: The Hour Before Dawn Addressing the Palestinian genocide Show notes at https://rebeltherapist.me/podcast/246

Tread Perilously's WandaVision month enters Quality Time territory with an episode of Family Ties called "Suzanne Takes You Down." When Elyse's friend, Suzanne, admits to feeling unfulfilled now that the kids have left for college, she hires the forlorn friend to do some clerical work. But almost immediately, Suzanne begins offering opinions about architectural features of an upcoming project. Soon, Elyse is doing double the work while convincing clients that much of her friend's suggestions are not feasible or against building code. And just when she has had enough, Suzanne's husband announces he wants a divorce. Will Elyse find the courage to fire Suzanne? Erik and Justin immediately credit frequent guest Paul Pakler's former podcast, Quality Time with Family Ties, for covering the episode first. Erik's bias against Ethan Hawke makes an appearance. The initial premise of Family Ties gets examined as the episode has very little to do with the kids. Justin appraises the talents of Michael Gross and Meredith Baxter. Architecture remains the fakest TV job. Elyse and Steven's history as hippies leads to a tangent -- and the reason why Erik always connects the show with Airplane! The pair try to figure out if Jennifer ever gets a character and the "mild chuckle" philosophy returns.
This week, the ladies ask is the show Mid-Century Modern the new Golden Girls? Maya confuses Family Ties and Family Matters. How? Remember when Alex was on speed? P.S. this venue is giving music in the park. Amy goes to the NFL Draft party and gets a huge compliment from a little girl. Don't sleep on the NFL garage sale. Amy helps a lost boy. Hot take…popsicles are not that great. A new vet implies Maya & Producer Tyler should murder their dog. Ummm, listen lady that dog is still trying to bang every day. Amy solves her own burglary. It's actually pretty amazing.

The legendary Loudon Wainwright III, whose career has spanned over five decades, is known for his deeply personal songwriting and sharp wit – and oversharing. The patriarch of the Wainwright folk dynasty (which includes Rufus, Martha, their late mother Kate McGarrigle, as well as Lucy and her mother Suzy Roche), Loudon reflects on the balance between oversharing and maintaining privacy in his music in this episode of Basic Folk. He candidly discusses the lines he draws when writing about family and how his experiences with grief have shaped his art. I'm proud to say that I think we found a line he would not cross in our conversation! Listen in to hear history in the making. We also discuss his latest live album, 'Loudon Live in London,' and his unique ability to unsettle and surprise his listeners during performances. We talk about his late father and namesake, Loudon Wainwright Jr., the famous writer for LIFE Magazine, who is present in everything LW3 does. We dive into his early days, including insights on his debut album thanks to a recent essay by Morrissey that highlights its significance. Moz points out that Wainwright has "the pep and readiness of someone who knows we will all soon be skeletons." After reading Loudon's very detailed memoir, Liner Notes, I had to ask him about his relationship to memory and also his reputation for memory. Loudon also touches on his acting career, revealing how roles in popular films – especially Big Fish and Knocked Up – have introduced him to new audiences. Elsewhere he reveals that he was at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival where Dylan went electric and shares his memories of that fateful day.Follow Basic Folk on social media: https://basicfolk.bio.link/ Sign up for Basic Folk's newsletter: https://bit.ly/basicfolknews Help produce Basic Folk by contributing: https://basicfolk.com/donate/ Interested in sponsoring us? My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is DR Shores, author of the book Shallow Stock. Raised on the Yorkshire coastline in the United Kingdom, D R Shores studied engineering prior to a twenty-five year career in business. Literature has always been a passion, with a taste ranging from Sigrid Nunez and Thomas Harris to established twentieth-century classics from Ernest Hemingway, Jean-Paul Sartre, Ayn Rand and Milan Kundera. Now living with his family and introverted dog in the east midlands area of England, his other interests include music, current affairs, volunteering and keeping fit. In my book review, I stated Shallow Stock is a suspense thriller that will keep you reading well into the wee hours of the morning! I loved the story and the intricate plotlines. As an author, I was also intrigued by how all the threads came together in the end. The story has a Hatfield and McCoy vibe. Two families are at 'war' and have been for several generations. They each own a competing corporation and work tirelessly to out do one another. Wynter McGlynn is the CEO of one. Julian Dayton is the CEO of the other. Both currently have issues holding onto their positions of power and see the other as their biggest obstacle. The competition is fierce, but is it fair? And what happens when the finger pointing starts? From black tie balls to crooked politicians to a city-wide triathlon to human trafficking to board meetings to interesting family dynamics, this book will lead you down a road you won't want to miss. And even when you think you've gotten the very last surprise, Shores finds a way to offer you a tidbit more. It's a great read! Peter Sobczynski joins Erik Childress again to get you caught up on a couple weeks of new physical media. They include drama from Charlie Chaplin and Michael Mann's feature debut. Godzilla returns as does the creepy Roger Corman sci-fi of the early ‘80s. Renny Harlin brings the sharks, Skippy from Family Ties battles a heavy metal killer and Peter reminds us of another piece of ‘80s horror that some parents would like to forget. There is also more weirdness including Steve Allen studying sex, John Travolta investigating sex and Eddie Murphy brought in to save a comedy. All that might be nothing compared to the visualization of The Who's rock opera brought to life by Ken Russell. 0:00 - Intro 2:11 - Criterion (A Woman of Paris, Thief 4K, Godzilla vs Biollante 4K) 18:53 - Arrow (Deep Blue Sea 4K) 27:08 - Kino (College Confidential, The Godsend, Best Defense, The General's Daughter 4K, The Black Tulip, Half a Chance) 58:46 - Sony (Bon Voyage) 1:03:57 - Synapse (Trick or Treat 4K) 1:13:01 - Shout (Forbidden World 4K, Tommy 4K) 1:40:27 – New TV on Blu-ray (The Penguin 4K, The Last of Us 4K, Tulsa King Season 2) 1:45:38 – New Theatrical Titles on Blu-ray (Wildcat, Moana 2 4K, Wolf Man 4K) 1:48:00 – New Blu-ray Announcements
"Satisfaction" RevisitedJulia Roberts and Liam Neeson are mere supporting players in the 1988 dramedy Satisfaction. Originally created as a vehicle for Justine Bateman (of "Family Ties" fame), the film quickly stalled at the box office. Film critics didn't necessarily sing the praises of this tale of a cover band of misfits, either. But now, decades later, were we too hard on this summer romp? Will the musical numbers now have us yelling, "More cowbell"? And can Liam Neeson be any cuter? The Old Roommates hit the dance floor and give it all a revisit through their middle-aged lens. Listen to this. Old Roommates can be reached via email at oldroommatespod@gmail.com. Part 2: Curious about his DNA, Christopher Rivas takes his father on a journey to the Dominican Republic to learn about his family history. Mark Pagán is an award-winning producer, writer, and editor for non-fiction podcasts and film. He is the creator and host of the critically acclaimed show Other Men Need Help. Christopher Rivas is quickly becoming one of the most sought after multi-hyphenates as an actor, author, podcaster, and storyteller. His book Brown Enough, explores what it means to be Brown in a Black/white world. The book is part memoir and part social commentary. He also hosts two podcast series with SiriusXM's Stitcher: Brown Enough, which explores the parallel themes of this book through interview-style episodes; and Rubirosa, a 10-episode documentary-style investigation of Porfirio Rubirosa, a Dominican diplomat, race car driver, soldier and polo player who is believed to be the inspiration for the famous character ‘James Bond'. His follow-up tunes, “Bottled Up,” “For Me,” “Good Riddance,” and “Drink On” are the product of just that. Hummon says, “taking risks, finding my own voice, and showing the scars and roughness around the edges allowed me to portray the most honest version of myself”. Coming off of his first headlining tour in the Fall of ‘21, Levi found himself to be in high demand in the spring and summer of 2022. Warming up the stage for acts like Hardy, Jordan Davis, Brett Eldridge, Brett Young, and Dylan Scott, he was able to experience in person the effects of this momentum and the reward for being unapologetically himself. While listeners across genres are creating the demand now more than ever for both a 90's country comeback and an early 2000's alternative rock revival, Levi's new music has established a unique lane paved by boLET'S BE SOCIAL:Follow Levi Hummon:Instagram – (@levihummon)TikTok – (@levihummon)Facebook – (@levihummon)Website -- levihummon.comFollow Diving in Deep Podcast:Instagram –(@divingindeeppod)TikTok – (@divingindeeppod)Twitter – (@divingindeeppod)Facebook – (@divingindeeppod)Follow Sara Evans: Instagram – (@saraevansmusic)TikTok – (@saraevansmusic)Twitter – (@saraevansmusic)Facebook – (@saraevansmusic)Produced and Edited by: The Cast Collective (Nashville, TN)YouTube – ( @TheCastCollective

Allison Jones (Freaks and Geeks, The Office, Veep) is an Emmy Award-winning casting director. Allison joins the Armchair Expert to discuss growing up an Irish twin in Massachusetts, her first casting job on Family Ties, and how her love of TV prompted her move to California. Allison and Dax talk about the cast of the Golden Girls actually only being in their 50s, how the highlight of her career was meeting Quincy Jones while casting The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, and why jumping a car over another car is less scary than doing standup comedy. Allison explains the number one mistake actors make in auditions, why McLovin is still the most difficult role she's ever cast, and how she stays hungry and dialed-in after over 41 years on the job.Follow Armchair Expert on the Wondery App or wherever you get your podcasts.
