2. Guest Author: Victor Davis Hanson. Headline: Immigration, Amnesty, and the Erosion of Citizenship. Summary: Hanson critiques the 1965 Hart-Celler Act and subsequent amnesties for prioritizing family ties over merit and failing to secure the border. He argues that the resulting influx of illegal immigration serves corporate demand for cheap labor and political desire for new voters, ultimately undermining the value of American citizenship.1920 BRYAN SPEAKING IN MANHATTAN

What happens when family life collides with organized crime? In this episode of Mysteries, Mayhem & Merlot, we explore the true crime story of a man who walked a fine line of morality and immorality; the mob—and paid the ultimate price for his choices. Growing up in the shadow of organized crime meant loyalty, silence, and risk. But when bad decisions stacked up and alliances shifted, the mob delivered its final verdict. Jesus's words in Matthew 10:34-39 and Luke 14:26 challenge us to prioritize the things of God over our family relations. Elder Matt Balocca uses these passages to teach us to prepare ourselves for trials when we might be tempted to compromise the Gospel when challenged by our family. Brian BonsallTake a walk with me down Fascination Street as I get to know Brian Bonsall. When Brian was very young, he joined the cast of the hit television show Family Ties, where he played Andy for over 80 episodes. Brian was also on several other shows including Star Trek: The Next Generation; before jumping onto the big screen with films like: 'Mikey', 'Father and Scout', and my personal favorite 'Blank Check'. About the age of 14 or so, Brian moved on from acting. He went to school, moved across the country, and discovered punk & pop punk music. He fell in love instantly with the genre. In this episode, we chat about some of those acting projects, and how he came to be in the industry in the first place. We talk about why he left the industry, and what he found in music. Brian discusses some of the bands he has been part of including Bootjack & Bons, Sunset Silhouette, and his newest endeavor Lights In The Sky. He also shares fun stories about some of the musical opportunities that have come his way; including playing with The Ataris, and even getting to play in Las Vegas at the When We Were Young Tour, the largest audience he has ever played in front of. Along the way, we deep dive into several different aspects of his storied career. From child actor and star to redemption story, to husband, father, and family man. Brian graciously allows me to play a couple of songs from two of his bands, I love them, and I think you will too! Lastly, Brian openly discusses the amazing Courtney, his wife. This is a message that I believe the Lord strongly impressed on my heart for this Christmas season. The Christmas story reveals to us the importance of families and divine associations. But the enemy is always trying to separate these connections in order to sabbatical the plan of God. In this message, I address this important truth: “What God has joined, let not man separate”.
IMMIGRATION POLICY AND THE EROSION OF CITIZENSHIP Colleague Victor Davis Hanson. Hansoncritiques the 1965 Hart-Celler Act for destroying meritocratic immigration in favor of family ties and the 1986 amnesty for failing to secure the border as promised. He argues that maintaining open borders and ignoring laws creates a large, non-citizen constituency that undermines the legal and cultural concept of American citizenship, fundamentally altering the electorate. Hanson contrasts this with the experience of legal immigrants, noting that the distinction of citizenship offers a dignity and equality often unavailable in their countries of origin. NUMBER 2

In this episode, we open with a vibrant discussion on music and culture, starting with a playful but honest debate: Were Swizz Beatz's songs actually good? From there, we explore which producers crafted the most classic sounds of the early 2000s and share our dream collaborators from that era—a nostalgic look at when hip-hop production was evolving fast. We then shift into the latest headlines: - 2 Chainz's son lands a sneaker deal, sparking a conversation around generational wealth and brand building. - Kim Kardashian dressing as Kendrick Lamar—is it homage, marketing, or crossing into culture vulture territory? Entertainment Industry & Power Conversations This episode's centerpiece is a deep, unfiltered breakdown of the Diddy documentary, The Reckoning. We unpack the allegations, the industry structures that enabled them, and what accountability truly looks like in entertainment. That leads into a provocative hypothetical: Who would you rather sign with—Suge Knight or Diddy? We dissect the risks, rewards, and reputations surrounding two of the most controversial power brokers in music history. We also tackle the question: When does cosmetic surgery cross the line into “too much”? A real conversation about body image, pressure, and authenticity in the public eye. Streaming, Business & Media Moves Big corporate news this week as we discuss the Warner Brothers + Netflix acquisition and what it means for the future of content, intellectual property, and consolidation. We also debate the longtime cultural question: Did Netflix kill movie theaters—or did sky-high ticket prices do the real damage? A breakdown of consumer behavior, economics, and changing viewing habits. Sports News Rundown We cover a series of major sports updates: The growing conversation around coaches and background checks—what responsibility do leagues have, and are current systems enough? Chris Paul's release from the Clippers, what it signals for his legacy, and potential landing spots. A celebration of PVAMU winning the SWAC, and what this means for HBCU athletics. Closing: Real-Life Reflections We wrap with a raw and thoughtful discussion: When family cuts ties, is it wrong? A conversation about boundaries, healing, and redefining relationships as adults.

KNNESS opens up about his journey as a rapper, the grind behind his music, and how staying true to himself has shaped both his sound and his mindset. We also dive deep into his passion for catfishing—breaking down why chasing big catfish gives him the same adrenaline and focus as being in the studio. From late nights making music to long hours on the riverbank, this episode highlights the balance between creativity, patience, and discipline. It's a conversation about staying grounded, honoring where you come from, and proving that you can thrive in multiple worlds while still being authentically you. Learn more about your ad choices. This powerful exploration of significance challenges us to reconsider how we measure value in our lives. Through the story of Jesse from 1 Samuel 16, we encounter a shepherd from an insignificant town who becomes central to God's redemptive plan. Jesse wasn't famous for his accomplishments—he's remembered simply as David's father, and he wasn't even an exceptional parent by worldly standards. Yet God chose this ordinary man's family line to bring forth both King David and ultimately Jesus Christ himself. The message confronts our tendency to measure importance by worldly standards—appearance, position, wealth, or achievements—when God measures the heart. We're reminded that God doesn't create spare parts; every person has divine purpose. The story of Miep Gies, who sheltered Anne Frank, illustrates how history-changing impact often comes from faithful obscurity. As we approach Christmas, we're invited to see ourselves as God sees us: not as insignificant nobodies, but as beloved children with kingdom purpose. The prophecy in Isaiah 11 about a shoot coming from Jesse's stump reminds us that God specializes in bringing life from what appears dead or diminished. When we feel overlooked or past our prime, we're actually in prime position for God to work—because in our weakness, His strength shines brightest.

Our relationships with our family and friends, those we care about, can bring us the most joy and pain we feel in mortality. Today on the podcast, I want to talk about how these relationships matter most and gain some awareness about our responsibility in our feelings we have for these people, whether good or bad, and that you are not bad for making whatever choice you want to feel about them. It's on us to do the work of healing if we need it and it's on us to preserve the things we care about.FREE 30 Minute Coaching CallIf you're in a rut, want to change your self worth, lack confidence, or feel unsure about your future, schedule a free coaching call with me. This powerful message invites us into the messy, complicated family tree of Jesus through the story of Abraham—a man whose faith journey was marked by fear, doubt, and repeated failures, yet who remained central to God's redemptive plan. Through vivid imagery of walking alone in a dark parking lot, we're confronted with a profound truth: fear informs trust, but truth must inform fear. Abraham's story reveals how easily we can operate in ignorance rather than truth, making decisions based on what we assume is happening rather than what God has promised. From lying about Sarah being his sister out of fear for his life, to taking matters into his own hands with Hagar instead of waiting on God's timing, Abraham struggled with trusting God's protection, provision, process, and timing. Yet through 25 years of infertility and waiting, through the unthinkable test on Mount Moriah where he was asked to sacrifice Isaac, Abraham's trials became the foundation for future trust. The genealogy of Jesus includes Abraham not despite his failures but as a testament to God's redemptive power. This Advent season, as we face difficult family gatherings and navigate our own fears, we're reminded that Jesus' arrival proves God is trustworthy—every promise finds its yes and amen in Christ, and our broken trust can be healed by the One who is eternally faithful.

[School of Movies 2025] Teenager from 1985 accidentally winds up in 1955 and meets his parents as teenagers, endangering his very existence. Bob Zemekis and Bob Gale made time travel immense and exhilarating, yet fun, intimate and personal, wisely choosing to focus (in a way that was rare at the time) on the everyboy hero's family relationships. And to illustrate quite how the alchemy of casting and crew was so key, they got several weeks into the original shoot with a completely different actor for Marty McFly. Things only finally clicked into place when Eric Stoltz exited the project and Michael J. Fox entered the scene, simultaneously filming day-shoots of the sit-com Family Ties. Three of the greatest movies ever made, and perennial occupants of my most beloved top spots, Back to the Future, both as a trilogy, and as a stand-alone film is so close to perfect that it can be rounded up to perfect with minimal argument. It has been fifteen years since I first recorded a show on each of these, and more than any other previous show, they were in desperate need of a revisit. Guest: Jesse Ferguson @TheDapperDM from the Recorded Tomorrow Podcast Those early Digital Gonzo shows can be found on the School of Movies Archive podcast feed. They are rough as hell, amateur hour on my part and each barely breaks the sixty minute mark. The best bits of all of them are featured at the end of each of these three new shows. Many thanks to my vintage guests, Nikki Taylor and Giles Thomas

“If you are questioning what I'm doing, then why not get it from the source?” When you've consistently done the work to be one of the best, it's not just the on court respect and praise that is earned, it's how your voice resonates beyond the game and no better example of this than Kevin Durant. In this powerful and candid conversation, NBA superstar Kevin Durant sits down with Ryan Clark, Channing Crowder, and Fred Taylor to open up like never before. From his early days in Prince George's County to becoming one of the most dynamic scorers in NBA history, KD reflects on his journey through every team he's played for — the Thunder, Warriors, Nets, and Suns — and what each chapter taught him about loyalty, leadership, and growth. He opens up about overcoming devastating injuries, finding balance off the court, and the evolution of his mindset through success, criticism, and reinvention. He doesn't shy away from the questions surrounding his choices, his direct demeanor on social media and describes how he sees his iconic career vs. how it's viewed by the world. Revealing the darkness he experienced from his injuries to rediscovering the light from his time away from the game, KD's love and appreciation for the camaraderie, the intense competition and the high demands of the sport. He shares how special Olympic moments have been, how winning a championship doesn't define his legacy and lets us in on his bond with players around the NBA, especially Anthony Edwards, who he sees a lot of himself in and compares their relationship to a similar one he shared with the late Kobe Bryant. Durant also talks deeply about family, sharing heartfelt stories about the impact of his mother, Wanda, and his relationship with his father, Wayne, and how thier love and lessons shaped the man he is today. The conversation turns to business and life beyond basketball — from his ventures in media and tech with Boardroom to his vision for empowering the next generation of athletes and creators. And of course, KD keeps it real about being a lifelong Washington Commanders fan — the highs, lows, and that unwavering DMV pride. It's vintage Durant: honest, thoughtful, competitive, and always evolving. Don't forget to hit the subscribe button, like and comment- we love hearing from you Pivot family!
