Since Heavy and Ty are still absent without leave, Gustave recruited Professor Brad to talk about movies, productivity, Dragon's Lair and much more. This week will be appearance one for Professor Brad in a special two week engagement. Starting of Brad and Gus discuss all of Brad's major awards as he is the only doctor on the Blowout Podcast Network, where he co-hosts the Below the Belt Podcast with his friend and smiley man Ryan. Gustav then turns the discussion towards science fiction books and movies set or made before computers became what they are today. That leads to a discussion about 2001: A Space Odyssey and the works of Stanley Kubrick, including A Clockwork Orange, The Shining and Eyes Wide Shut. (In a glaring omission, Gustav fails to mention Kubrick's Vietnam masterpiece, Full Metal Jacket, but he will discuss it in an upcoming episode that has since been recorded). You can't talk to Brad too long about anything without video games coming up. So the discussion going from "arcades" of a certain type over to the classic Leisure Suit Larry mature themed video game series just seems natural. That in turn bridges from the game mechanics of Sierra style games of the eighties to Gustav's memories about failing at the classic eighties arcade game Dragon's Lair. Then Brad and Gustav discuss how they are both suffering from a perceived lack of productivity in their objectives. So send us your emails about arcades, Dragon's Lair, eighties games or your favorite sci-fi to canyouhearmepod@gmail.com Follow us on Twitter @canyouhearmepod @realgustav @tywebb3000 @longmireheavy Find us on Tumblr and Instagram @canyouhearmepod The post Professor Brad – Dragon’s Lair appeared first on Can You Hear Me?.
Returning for a third appearance Megan rejoins Ty, Heavy and Gustav to answer Twitter questions, be mansplained and listen to the boys arguing about acreage. Super special guest Megan is the host of locally famous and regionally loved Megan's Movie Podcast which can be found on the Blowout Podcast Network. This week, Gustav put out the call for Twitter questions from the listeners for Megan. But before that, he has to mention Simon and Simon and discuss the merits of the theme songs, as well as the Square Pegs theme song, and as Megan refers to it, the diarrhea song. Long time friend of the show Valley Butcher asks about Haunted Houses. Since they bully Megan, the boys just go about describing a local haunted house in their youth that was held at a condemned hospital. That leads to arguing about acreage as Heavy estimates the size of the lot in his initial description and Ty and Gus challenge him on the lot size, while Megan sighs a lot and rolls her eyes. Heavy also goes into stories of a local doctor that worked at the hospital and was a bit of a mad scientist. Ranfill asks questions about at home nudity and Metallica albums. Gustav offers up helpful tips about working from home. Saint Tom asks Megan what the most "903" thing she has ever done was. That leads to a discussion about Megan's husband T.C.'s landmark moments involving a break in at his home he thwarted and his trapping of a wild hog to win $2000 from Bob and Dan on KTCK. Then Heavy and Megan bond over vomiting stories. It was great for Megan to join us once again and we look forward to future guest appearances. Be sure to check out Megan's Movie Podcast each Friday. Once again Heavy, Ty and Gustav welcome back Megan Fleming to talk about a funny Whataburger Drive Thru story, circumcision, male behavior and much more. Megan is the host of Megan's Movie Podcast on the Blowout Podcast Network. She's been kind enough to have Gustav and Ty on as guests, but so far no Heavy appearance has been scheduled. To get the ball rolling Heavy and Gustav discuss how their kids are starting to seek out the podcast and how it finally caught up with Gus. Then Gustav shares some feedback from Down Under for their recent Bonsai tree episode. Unlike last week, there is a concerted effort to actually allow Megan to talk. Taking the floor, she wants to know "What's up with guys?" and shares the tale about a disgusting co-worker. Then she tells us all about how many dong pics her friend gets a day. Talk about men leads to a discussion about circumcision and the impact that a parent's decision may have on a young man's future. Ty and Heavy think back to the funniest Heavy story that there may have ever been and remember the time that Heavy turned a normal trip to the Whataburger Drive Thru into a night that they will never forget. It's one of their favorite stories and they are glad to finally get it down on tape for future humans to enjoy into perpetuity. Gus shares another Heavy story involving some uncooperative valets. It was great for Megan to join us once again and we look forward to future guest appearances. Be sure to check out Megan's Movie Podcast each Friday. Heavy, Gustav and Ty are thrilled to have Megan Fleming as a special guest this week to talk about Daddy Bush shenanigans and pickled foods. Megan is the host of Megan's Movie Podcast on the Blowout Podcast Network. She has been kind enough to have Ty and Gus on as guests, but so far, no Heavy appearance has been allowed. Ty tries to make Megan feel welcome by bringing a six pack of Modelo beer at the start of the session, but Megan was brown bagging tall boys and wasn't having any of his attempts at hospitality. Megan explains how she came up with her Twitter handle in a thrilling story. Then she stands up and waves her feminist banner and rails against the misdeads of Daddy Bush, aka George Herbert Walker Bush, and the recent news stories of inappropriate touching and the David Copp-a-feel joke. Emboldened by the mere mention of a political figure, Heavy jumps at the chance to go on a political rant. Megan brought the three hooligans gift bags full of goodies. In the bags were candies such as the Southern classic Cherry Mash as well as a wide variety of pickled items made by Megan and her mother and sister. They have a company called Yims Foods which make all kinds of pickled goodies and jams. The boys have questions about their offerings and Megan does her best even though they don't let her speak much in this episode. Pickle talk soon turns to grandma talk which invariably leads to punishment talk with tales of switches, flyswatters and even a hot wheel race track. Then Megan shares tales of rice torture that shock the boys. Then the old men tell about back when teachers gave swats at will and how the world was a better place. So send us your emails about punishments, pickles or the time the ex-president patted you on the butt to canyouhearmepod@gmail.com Follow us on Twitter @canyouhearmepod @realgustav @tywebb3000 @longmireheavy Find us on Tumblr and Instagram @canyouhearmepod The post Daddy Bush and Pickled Things appeared first on Can You Hear Me?.
Once again, Ty and Gustav are without the one and only Heavy Longmire, but they somehow manage to appreciate art, talk about Curly Bill and much much more. As we continue into our second month without Heavy, Gustav makes a stand against kids with Mohawks while Ty for some reason makes a stand against one of the show's nicest listeners. Gus objects but they finally come to an agreement on kids with rat tails. If you remember the episode with the sad creepy clown painting, you know that Gustav loves "art". He unveils a new painting he has discovered and discusses the work of Ernesto Blume. Ernesto painted a portrait of Powers Boothe as Curly Bill from Tombstone. Gustav maps out his plan for further collaboration with Ernesto Blume and Can You Hear Me listeners. With Curly Bill looking down on Ty and Gus, they talk about the impact of Powers Boothe's career on the CYHM collective psyche. Boothe starred in classics such as Deadwood, Frailty, Southern Comfort, Deadwood, and much more. One of his most powerful roles was as Jim Jones. While Ty seeks further refreshment, Gus recaps the story of Jim Jones and the Jonestown tragedy. Ty fondly recalls Sports Illustrated swimsuit issues for a bit. Then they discuss the problematic nature of the "back room" at small town video stores. That somehow leads Ty to tell his stories about a couple of near misses with local law enforcement during the early nineties in the 903. So send us your emails about Powers Boothe, running from the law or Heavy Longmire spottings to canyouhearmepod@gmai l.com Be sure to listen to listen to Gustav’s guest appearance on Megan’s Movie Podcast on the Blowout Podcast Network where he and Megan talk about Tombstone. Have you ever heard of Mexico's George Washington? Listen to this first part of a two part special series where Gustav sits down with everyone's favorite historian, Professor Brad and maybe you will figure out what he means. Sadly Ty and Heavy seem to have abandoned the podcast, so Gustav begged Brad to join him for what was initially going to be an hour of scholarly talk. But lucky for the listener, the scholarly mumbo jumbo is augmented by the meandering and confusing rabbit trails that you have come to expect from Gustav and his enabler Brad. Brad starts the ball rolling with a tale of his Uncle Doobie and a hitchhiker, which fits nicely with the recent hitchhiking episode Ty and Gus did a few weeks ago. Gustav dabbles with psychoanalyzing Brad's bad tooth pick up line, but abandons that thread for several questions that loyal listeners and fans of Brad sent in via Twitter: Cody asks about breakfast soup Aaron inquires about Texas secession boundaries Ginsburg asks about other books Brad would want to write Trey wants to know who the villains of World War I were Tell wonders if Brad is just luring him to buy his book by telling him he is descended from great men of New Spain As you can imagine, these questions lead Gus and Brad down a myriad of dead ends, rabbit holes and erroneous statements. Somewhere along the way Brad talks about a failed comic book idea, Gustav struggles for the name of space flight pioneer Wernher von Braun, Brad teaches us that Augustine de Iturbide was Mexico's George Washington and all other kinds of useless information. So send us your emails about changing historic perspectives, Werner von Braun, or breakfast soup to canyouhearmepod@gmail.com Be sure to listen to listen to Gustav’s guest appearance on Megan’s Movie Podcast on the Blowout Podcast Network where he and Megan talk about Tombstone. Once again Ty and Gustav are without Heavy, so they discuss raising kids, answer emails and how one of them looked like David Koresh in 1993. We apologize for Heavy's absence, but just imagine how joyful his homecoming will be! Being parents, Ty and Gus find themselves having to deal with other parents. Gus asks what do you do if you like the fellow parent, but don't like their kid. That leads to a discussion about the over-videoing parents today, which prompts Barbershop talk once again which somehow leads to the subject of Green Stamps, which everyone collected and redeemed back in the 60's and 70's. The guys return to the earlier topic of college jobs and Ty remembers how he worked laying water pipe (not a euphemism) one summer with our high school chemistry teacher. An email from good dude and long time listener Valley Butcher brings about David Koresh and Branch Davidian talk. Naturally what starts off as a serious discussion about a tragedy of is subverted by a side story about a gravy drinking contest and how one of them looked like a short version of David Koresh during the stand-off. Gustav climbs on his libertarian soapbox for a bit to talk about the Davidians, the MOVE debacle in Philadelphia, and the Ruby Ridge fiasco. But that only lasts for a short bit before Ty distracts him with hot dog talk. They regain focus and talk about other historic moments in their youth like the Challenger, the U.S. Marine base bombing in Beirut and the O.J. Simpson chase. Friend of the show Conner sends a thought provoking email about the future of masculinity, which brings them back on track and they circle back to the raising of kids and the seeming devaluation of masculinity in our society at the moment. So send us your emails about raising kids, what you can put on a hot dog or any cult leaders you used to look like to canyouhearmepod@gmail.com Be sure to listen to listen to Gustav’s guest appearance on Megan’s Movie Podcast on the Blowout Podcast Network where he and Megan talk about Tombstone. While Heavy Longmire is still out trapping muskrat, Ty and Gus got together to talk old game shows, share a story about a melted fork, kick around some hardware ideas and do a little dentist talk. Ty starts things off with a story about the former child actor, his jeep, a college cop, and some shade tree mechanics. The shade tree mechanics lead Gus back to another co-worker from the previous episode's stories about their first job. Gus wonders about the species of grass which may contain the same chemical that is in vanilla and shows that he knows way too much about Hierochloe oderata. The vanilla talk leads the boys down a path back to a vague and ultimately incorrect memory about an episode of Family Ties where someone drinks vanilla extract for the alcohol. Gus and Ty are dead wrong on which character it was. Be sure to listen to the outro to see if you can identify the very famous voice who actually did drink the vanilla extract. Recently Gus went to get his teeth cleaned and had a really bad time while on nitrous oxide. Ty then drops a bomb shell on Gus which leaves Gus worried about how long Ty has left on this earth. Then Gus tells Ty about a trip to his parents where he saw his brother and how one thing led to another and then there was a smoker, a melted fork and some cussing. That led to his brother doing some bourbon fueled welding to "fix" the melted fork. Ty shares the story of his grandmother on famous game show. Once again they then dive into game show talk and fondly remember the Price is Right and the Gong Show. Then they geek out over Tom Snyder and Joe Franklin for a while. So send us your emails about game shows, bad trips and crap you've melted to canyouhearmepod@gmail.com Be sure to listen to listen to Gustav's guest appearance on Megan's Movie Podcast on the Blowout Podcast Network where he and Megan talk about Tombstone. Join Ty and Gustav as they bring you part two of their award winning after school special starring special guest The Black Falconer. Heavy was busy trapping varmints, so Ty and Gus shared a special evening with K.J. from Partial Recall and the Blowout Podcast Network. No time for intro's, they jump straight out of the chute with a tale of dyed pubic hair which will certainly be of interest to both men and women of every color and creed upon this blue marble that we are all living on. Gustav recounts the Blowout One Million Download party and how everyone's one and only was treated like a rock star when he showed up. KJ is a bit fuzzier on events so he's not much help as Gus answers JJ's tweet about the young future barrister's dance moves. Long time master of email Cody sends a question about a dank bag full of money which may or may not be supplied by Nigerian bankers. We are waiting to hear back from Cody to see if we completely missed the point of the email as we spend an inordinately amount of thought on money laundering. K.J. is also a co-host of Fuck the Walking Dead with Mike "Machine" Marshall. With all the time he's spent watching zombie shows, he has been thinking about post-apocalyptic survival plans. Who better to talk about how to spend your first 36 hours after a catastrophic event than the Can You Hear Me boys? Gustav of course has plenty to say, although he does incorrectly name a book about intentional communities and communes. The correct name of the book is Getting Back Together and was written by Robert Houriet. Ty and Gus would like to thank K.J. and his Landlord for their hospitality and letting them invade their deluxe apartment in the sky. The Can You Hear Me? Podcast is proud to welcome special guest K.J. to the show this week to talk vermin, chores and his new project The Black Falconer. Ty and Gus had so much fun with K.J. that we will be splitting up the recording session into two episodes. K.J. is the young rising star of the Blowout Podcast Network. Originally, K.J. started the Partial Recall podcast with good dude Clay, which led to the Blowout Podcast Network recruiting them. Since then, K.J. has started both "Fuck the Walking Dead" and "The Optomist Club" podcasts with locally and regionally famous Mike "Machine" Marshall. We have been trying to record with K.J. (and Clay) for almost a year and finally we were able to get together. Not afraid to tackle hard hitting issues, Ty starts out with the important question of "What is the most racist cheese?" It's a discussion you just won't want to miss. J.J. sent a question in about his fabulous dance moves at the Blowout One Million Download Celebration. Gus recalls J.J.'s grooving that evening as well as the previous episode where he interviewed J.J. Ty recounts a recent event where his and Heavy's dads were blowing up beaver damns. That leads K.J. to pick the guys' brains about dealing with vermin. Lot's of possum talk which we know you will love. Listen to find out how K.J. may become the Black Falconer and move on to Hollywood fame. Ty and Gustav can't go an episode without talking about Brad in some fashion. This week is no different as Gustav rants about Brad's over use of the fifty cent word "insalubrious" in Brad's new book. It's a great book, but come on, he used that word three times in one chapter. With K.J. and his landlord looking for a house, K.J. asks some home improvement questions which somehow leads to talk about chicken menstruation and the roughness of roosters mounting chickens. It's a fun episode so be sure to listen to part two next week. Check out K.J. and Clay's weekly podcast Partial Recall. Episode 43 finds the Can You Hear Me podcast ready for bedding follow up, listener email, offgrid living and space diarrhea. Ty couldn't make it so a special guest sits in the third chair and provides needed emotional support. Professor Brad's new book is available for pre-order . You can get it at Amazon Arredondo: Last Spanish Ruler of Texas and Northeastern New Spain Gustav recounts his recent trip to the Blowout Podcast Network live event at Chat Room in Fort Worth. He takes the time to list all of the good dudes and even a few ladies he ran into like Ginsburg, Big Burly Clay, KJ and his landlord, Hunter, Conner, Chef Rob, Josh, NvrNudeTobias, Walling, Austin and his lady, Professor Brad, Fakesportsbot, Conner, and even Jake's wife. It was great to get to meet some folks face to face for the first time as well as seeing old friends. We got feedback on the recent episode about bedding and quilt talk from Valley Butcher and Tellito. Tellito's story about his youthful winter sleeping arrangements leads the guys down the path of discussing the Polynesian's parents journey toward off-grid living in the Rocky Mountains. And finally there is some confusion about the astronaut that drove cross country wearing a diaper as she sought out her rival in a NASA love triangle. As Jay put it, "this is why this isn't a news podcast." But astronaut diaper talk brought up the specter of space diarrhea, which has to be the worst diarrhea of all. Heavy is also disturbed by a current commercial on KTCK that discusses what your "number two" looks like. Gustav had hoped to include the commercial's most offensive elements, but he couldn't snag the audio in time for this episode. You can email us your space diarrhea stories, astronaut love triangle fantasies or any other observations to canyouhearmepod@gmail.com And you can find us on twitter: @realgustav @longmireheavy @tywebb3000 The post Space Diarrhea appeared first on Can You Hear Me?.
In one of the most string of consciousness episodes to date, the Can You Hear Me gang deals with listener emails, mattress talk, rodeos, an estate sale surprise and much much more. Never afraid to show just how old they are the guys head straight into the ditch with eighties country music talk followed up with a charming review of a Red River Valley diner that existed back in the early nineties. Then if that wasn't enough to show that they are old men, they spend a segment talking about old quilts and mattresses. An email from Crandyman Ray Ranfill himself pulls us out of the ditch for a little while until Ty fires off some hot sports opinions about the phenomenon of the father/daughter dance. Gustav had been saving the tale of an Estate Sale Surprise that he encountered years ago. But this seemed like as good a time as any. Find out what he found and why you should make arrangements with a trusted friend to get rid of all of your most depraved sexual possessions. The poor old women running this estate sale had no idea what this bag full of leather and steel accoutrements where when they picked up and priced each item. But your friend Gustav knew. Good dude Tom sent an email asking the guys if they had ever been in any rodeo events and tells us how he survived his own rodeo career. Because Tom loves Popeye's Chicken, they guys then spend some time talking about fried chicken and Gustav tells how he's on a low-to-no carb diet which is unfathomable to Heavy. Email us your estate sale surprise stories, fried chicken preferences or any other random things to Canyouhearmepod@gmail.com and follow us on Instagram @canyouhearmepod Tweet us @realgustav @tywebb3000 @longmireheavy or @canyouhearmpod Congratulations to our friend KJ and Clay with Partial Recall on their recent joining of the Blowout Podcast Network. The Can You Hear Me boys return to their true form in Episode 25 with tales of Suzy's Showbar, a discussion of breasts and a debate about tattooed ladies. Once again we thank Professor Brad from the Below the Belt Podcast, which airs on the Blowout Podcast Network, for joining us on Episode 24 for our discussion of Blood Meridian . But once again we are back to the grind with our standard fare of content. Gustav gets the ball rolling with a field report from his visits to Suzy's Showbar(AKA Suzy's Lounge). Suzy's Showbar is a quaint strip club nestled out in a semi-rural location about 30 miles outside of Philadelphia, PA. While the club might not be the snazziest strip club in the world, it makes up for it in charm and ambiance . Because he cares about the listeners, Gustav provides a laundry list of why he thinks this may be one of the most fascinating strip clubs he's ever encountered. He found it so fascinating that he agreed to take his work wives for a visit. Listen to find out if they had as positive an outlook as Gustav did. Strip club talk leads to breast augmentation talk and the guys share their opinions on the potential downsides of a boob job gone wrong. While they aren't anti-breast augmentation, they all come up with some specific situations that they have observed. And with the discussion of the dancers at Suzy's Showbar, the conversation turns to the tattooed ladies. Ty and Heavy talk about Danielle Colby from the television show "American Pickers" as an example of an attractive curvy tattooed lady. With that example, the group then talks about the merits and downsides to tattoos on the fairer sex. Feel free to contact us at canyouhearmepod@gmail.com or find us on Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, etc. The post Suzy’s Showbar and Tattooed Ladies appeared first on Can You Hear Me?.
In a departure from the normal shenanigans, the Can You Hear Me team puts on their thinking caps and discuss the novel Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy. On of the crew's favorite fellow podcasters, Brad from the Below the Belt podcast joins them to add the perspective of a historian to the discussion. Below the Belt is a Mixed Martial Arts podcast with historical twist. Brad cohosts Below the Belt with his friend Ryan. The Below the Belt podcast is part of the Blowout Podcast Network and is one of the Can You Hear boys' favorite weekly podcasts. Blood Meridian or The Evening Redness in the West was first published in 1985 by Cormac McCarthy and is by many accounts, one of the finest novels ever written in the history of American literature. Brad has a background in 19th century American and Mexican history and he was kind enough to join the guys for this special episode. The novel is stark and often times disturbing look at life on the Mexican frontier in the early 1850's. It follows a young man, simply known as "the kid" as he joins in with a band of filibusters who take on a commission to collect the scalps of Comanches and Apaches who during that time were conducting raids along the borderlands of Northern Mexico. The gang of scalphunters themselves devolve into savagery and McCarthy documents this devolution with clipped yet descriptive prose that conveys the violence and the oppressive environmental elements which at times act as characters in the narrative themselves. The four friends bring four different viewpoints to the discussion and each find different meanings from this scant yet dense novel. Much to McCarthy's credit, Blood Meridian is a novel which it seems each person who reads it, takes away a different meaning. The group discusses the novel from historic, literary, psychological and religious perspectives. A novel of such imagery and violence is full of disturbing events and themes. The team tackles them head on and eventually stumbles into spoilers of the story for anyone who may not have read it. But with such a complex subject, the themes and elements of Blood Meridian cannot be discussed thoroughly without talking about the cryptic and much debated ending. Despite the seriousness of the novel, the guys can't help themselves from making their normal style of irreverent jokes, but in this case at a much lower rate of fire. Many thanks to Brad from Below the Belt for appearing on this week's episode. Hopefully, he will return at some point in the future.
