The Secret Origins of Mint Condition

The Secret Origins of Mint Condition

Show notes provided by Joe Peluso  Once again the Mint crew finds themselves in the "back of the store" chatting up all things pop-culture. Such "erudite" topics as a definitive Batman reading list and how many Superman villains can you name James, Chris, and Joe are discussed with the usual passion and expertise. Or is Joe just making stuff up with his inclusion of Terra-Man and Vartox being members of the Superman rogues gallery? And was the Toyman ever anything more than just a disgruntled Toys "R" Us employee?    But then, as was often the occasion back in the "brick-and-mortar days of Mint, a gauntlet is thrown down! The conversation changes as James introduces a new segment to the podcast: "Pop-Culture Confessions". What ensues is a classic string of hilarity, embarrassing admissions, and a couple of time-honored rants. And no, Kyrie Irving is not mentioned!   This latest entry of the "back of the store chat" comes so close to the real thing, you will believe you are once again standing amongst your friends at 664 Port Washington Blvd. We hope you enjoy this episode as much as we did. "Sometimes you want to go where everyone knows your name".

Blessings and Riches, my friends... for today is a day like no other.  Ladies and Gentlemen, it's Vartox Week! Today Chris (@acecomics) shares the story of how a hairy-chested mustachioed alien stranger saved his blog from terminal burn-out!  It's a discussion about the frustrations associated with the creation of content, getting into one's own head, and attempts at side-stepping writer's block. All that and a Bronze-Age issue of Superman to boot! Celebrate Vartox Week responsibly... and remember, this is the one week a year where we're all Valerians! -- Original Discussion: https://www.chrisisoninfiniteearths.com/2018/08/superman-281-1974.html -- Vartox Week Page: http://www.chrisisoninfiniteearths.com/p/vartox-week.html -- Cosmic Treadmill, Episode #111 (Deep-Dive on Vartox) https://www.podbean.com/eu/pb-2482v-9c3fd5 -- Cosmic Treadmill Classic: Weird Comics History, the Comics Code Authority https://www.chrisandreggie.com/2018/03/chris-and-reggie-box-set-volume-1.html -- HOT-TAKE: Letters Page from Superman #285 (March, 1975) Re: The First Appearance of Vartox! -- weirdcomicshistory@gmail.com chrisandreggie.com @cosmictmill @reggiereggie weirdsciencedccomics.com chrisisoninfiniteearths.com

Greetings, Eternals! In this episode, Brutal Exterminators Chris (@AceComics) and Reggie (@reggiereggie) examine one of the weirdest characters in DC Comics' pantheon: it's Vartox Week! A discussion of every appearance of Vartox, with special concentration on Superman #281 by Cary Bates and Curt Swan, and Power Girl vol. 2 #7 by Jimmy Palmiotti, Justin Gray, and Amanda Conner! Without skimping on the requisite creator bios, our swoon-proof mortals detail every issue in which Vartox appears, even if only for a panel. Plus, they detail the mysterious film origins of this character–both the origins and the film being mysterious! This episode is so chock full, you'll need a Hyper-Ear to listen to it!
