In this amazing prequel to Fury Road, we follow the story of young Furiosa as she is snatched from the Green Place by the tyrant Dementus. As Dementus finds himself in a fight for power with Immortan Joe, Furiosa learns to survive, adapt, and put together a means to find her way home. We discuss Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga this week! We also talk some pop culture news as always, discuss some things we watched such as The Mandalorian & Grogu, and much more. Next week: Labyrinth.

Prečo by ste teda mali investovať do reklamy ešte pred reálnym ziskom? Viac informácií nám poskytol Jiří Zima, founder NICEBOY® & FURIOSA®
Morphing from racer to coach and why his personality was perfect for the role. The constant thirst for information on how to be a better athlete which gave his academy international acclaim. Devin & James are back in the Den, and we're ready to hit the road with special guest CASEY O'CONNOR! This time we're deep diving into one of the most unique movie series ever created, THE MAD MAX SAGA!From the grimy exploitation charm of MAD MAX, through the high-octane thrills of THE ROAD WARRIOR and BEYOND THUNDERDOME, to the violent elegance of FURY ROAD and FURIOSA, there is really no other series that compares with George Miller's apocalyptic vision of the future.Along the way we discuss Australian biker films, Mel Gibson, Vernon Well's ass-less chaps (aren't they all?), bone-crunching stunts, Tina Turner in a car chase (!), the series' Oscar-winning return 30 years later on the shoulders of Charlize Theron & Tom Hardy, and how Chris Hemsworth fits into one of the greatest lineups of villains to ever rule a wasteland. We even take a moment to acknowledge the massive pop culture footprint the films have, leading to a million imitators from 1990: The Bronx Warriors to Waterworld. Join us as we ride eternal, shiny and chrome, into Valhalla!

Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Peter watches Mad Max: Fury Road for the first time in decades, and Eden — who has seen it at least a dozen times — watches the black-and-chrome edition alongside him. Peter finds the opening act almost too uncomfortable to watch, given its uncomfortable parallels to the current political moment, but gets fully on board the moment the sandstorm hits. They dig into what makes the film a masterpiece of practical filmmaking, why Furiosa holds up better than the prequel, and what it means that George Miller also made Babe: Pig in the City and Happy Feet.SHOW NOTESCheck-in / What we've been up to — Eden is riding their cargo bike in 35mph Iowa wind gusts; Peter is heading to Austin for an Intuitive Surgical robotics event. Eden vents about 18 months of accessibility compliance work being ignored by faculty who don't read their emails.Peter's picks — Finishing Dungeon Crawler Carl Book 6 (fun but disposable, and the online fandom's intensity baffles him); finished Season 2 of A Man on the Inside (Ted Danson and his real-life wife Mary Steenburgen falling for each other on screen — highly recommended); Taskmaster Series 21 has started, featuring Kumail Nanjiani. Big metal week — Peter covers a stack of new releases: Slave Machine by Nervosa (vicious all-female death-thrash from Brazil); Too Fast to Die by ArchSpire (potential album of the year if not for Neurosis); new Inferi album featuring departing drummer Spencer Moore; Descent by Immolation; and Master Boot Record's first live album Realtime Execution. Eden's picks — Eden is scrobbling again on Last.fm and shares a chaotic top-four week: Portishead, Rebecca Black (Salvation EP praised as a stone-cold classic), Neurosis, and new discovery Javiera Mena, a Chilean electro-pop artist. Also watched two bad movies with the bad movie crew: Firecracker (notable for a truly unhinged sex scene) and American Cyborg: Steel Warrior ("Children of Men with a $13 budget"). Currently reading a 3,500-page Chinese web novel called Long Awaited Feelings / My Feelings Can Wait. Why Peter struggled with the opening act — Peter found Immortan Joe's cult of worship uncomfortably familiar, given current events, describing it as George Miller predicting how "stupid and gullible people can be." He warmed to the film as it progressed, with the sandstorm sequence being the turning point."A perfect action film" — Eden's framing: not their favorite action film, but possibly a perfect one — no wasted frame, no wasted scene. They've seen it at least a dozen times, and this watch was the black-and-chrome edition, which Miller originally intended before the studio overruled him.Practical effects deep dive — 80–90% of the stunts were practical, shot on location in Namibia under miserable conditions. They highlight the pole-cat war boys actually swinging on moving vehicles, and the real flamethrower guitarist who was instructed not to hold the guitar too high.On the cast — Charlize Theron gets full credit for owning the film as Furiosa. Tom Hardy's near-silent, physically understated performance is praised. Nicholas Hoult's arc as Nux — going from zealot to sacrifice — is called out as the emotional hinge of the film.Frame rate trivia — Eden flags that 50–60% of the film was shot below 24fps, with Miller manipulating frame rates shot-by-shot to control tension and legibility.Furiosa comparison — Eden recommends the prequel but notes its heavy CGI and green screen make it feel cheaper and less embodied than Fury Road. Peter says he's now interested to watch it.The Babe 2 revelation — The episode ends on Eden's genuine disbelief that the director of Fury Road also made Babe: Pig in the City and Happy Feet, and a fun piece of trivia: Immortan Joe's actor, Hugh Keays-Byrne, also played Toecutter, the villain of the original Mad Max.
Podcast herunterladen

Welcome back to Lez Hang Out, the podcast that wants the dykes on bikes to bring us to The Green Place. This week, Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) are rewinding the clock back to our discussion about why the 2015 movie Mad Max: Fury Road Should've Been Gay. Honestly, nothing could have prepared us for how gay and campy this movie is. It's basically leather daddies vs. dykes on bikes in a post-apocalyptic desert. Furiosa, played by Charlize Theron, is from The Green Place, a lesbian mecca inhabited entirely by women known as the Vuvalini. She wants nothing more than to escape Immortan Joe's leather daddy war boy desert land and get back to her girls, but won't leave without taking all the hottest women from Joe's harem of breeders with her. When Joe realizes that Furiosa has straight up stolen all his hot ladies, he sends his war boys to track her down in a series of action-packed, explosion-filled car chases through the deserted post-apocalyptic wastelands. When she does finally get back to lesbian mecca, everyone is so excited to see her. But things are no longer going well for them in The Green Place, so Furiosa adds a bunch of the dykes on bikes to her pack and heads back to challenge and overthrow Immortan Joe. Between the intense sapphic energy of the Vuvalini, Furiosa's whole shaved head, protector of hot women aesthetic, and the absolute camp that is Immortan Joe and his pack of shiny boy toys, we cannot see this movie as anything other than a gay masterpiece. We know one thing for sure, Mad Max: Fury Road Should've Been Gay. Join us on Facebook.com/lezhangoutpod and Instagram (@lezhangoutpod).

This week on Cinemapodgrapher, new host Josh Calder sits down with one of Australia's most respected dolly grips, Dave Shaw. With over 30 years in the industry and credits on War Machine, Thor: Ragnarok, The Hobbit, Avatar, Eat Pray Love, San Andreas, Furiosa, Nim's Island, and Pete's Dragon, Dave has seen it all from behind the camera. They unpack what it truly means to be a dolly grip, the craft, the instinct, and the trust required to move the camera in harmony with story and emotion. Dave shares how he got his start, the lessons that shaped his career, and the subtle art of reading an actor's performance to match the rhythm of a scene. From collaborating with operators and DPs to working alongside filmmakers like James Cameron and Peter Jackson, this episode dives deep into the communication and collaboration that define great gripping. Dave talks about staying engaged on set, embracing new technology, and why the right attitude, waking up excited to make movies, is everything. And of course, we revisit some of the golden lessons he has passed on to Josh over the years. A masterclass in precision, intuition, and passion for storytelling, this one is a must-listen for anyone serious about the craft of filmmaking.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints released 3 new Gospel Topics Essays in July. We go through each of them, discuss the information that's missing, chat about the propaganda woven into every line, and speculate as to the impetus behind the new essays. For ease of listening, the Book of Mormon Translation starts at 13:31, the Plural Marriage starts at 1:01:24, and Joseph Smith's Character starts at 1:53:15. After that we chat Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, a post-apocalyptic wasteland movie about two warring cult leaders. Then we wrap with happy news about metalheads fighting bullying in schools! We finish our long detour from the Official M's with a stop at the guzzoline station once again with Nick, Elise, Anthony, Manny, and Dan. It's a thunderous ride through Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga — and it's safe to say, George Miller still knows how to throw a punch (and then chase it down with a monster truck). This time, the Wasteland's most metal myth gets the prequel treatment, and we're all aboard for the full operatic fury of it. From Hemsworth's scene-chewing Dementus to Anya Taylor-Joy's thousand-yard stare, we debate just how much Furiosa earns its epic runtime and whether it hits the same mythic highs as Fury Road. Is it better as a five-part saga than a traditional three-act film? Does it matter when the action rips this hard? Opinions fly as fast as buzzsaws, and no one escapes unscathed — especially not Dan, who's doing some serious soul-searching over his Fury Road loyalty. Naturally, the crew takes a few exits off Fury Road to explore long-distance hauls, “Oscar bait for people who like explosions,” and whether or not Dementus would've thrived on Tumblr. Elise breaks down the emotional calculus of biker gang vengeance, Anthony stans for gasoline-based morality plays, and Manny lurks in the audio shadows, sharing a mic with Nick and dropping chrome-dusted commentary when it counts. If you're still chasing that War Boy high or wondering how many bananas it would take to build an oil refinery, this one's for you. Come for the dissection of Miller's lore-building — stay for the fight about Fury Road vs Furiosa that will absolutely tear your soul in half. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt12037194
Tess' feature film productions include: Gettin' Square, Charlotte's Web, Predestination, Winchester, Danger Close, Mad Max Fury Road and Furiosa, Elvis, The Gorge, and Spit. Tess has worked in television projects including: Wentworth, Bloom, Underbelly, Rush, Rain Shadow, Cybergirl, and Round The Twist.
Chrome and chaos at full throttle, his week we hit the dusty, diesel-soaked highway to rewatch Mad Max: Fury Road, and it's war-boy wild. Nick, Anthony, Elise, and our special guest Adele rev their engines for an unrelenting breakdown of George Miller's masterwork, from Furiosa's defiance to Immortan Joe's drippingly gross dental situation. Along the way, we celebrate cinematic mayhem, overanalyze flame-throwing guitars, and somehow wind up debating the mechanics of milk harvesting. (Sorry in advance.) We talk trauma, share Adele's hype for feminist vengeance, and Anthony… well, Anthony has a helicopter situation. Whether you ride eternal, shiny and chrome, or you're still trying to figure out what a half-life war pup even is, this one's a furious good time. Witness us. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1392190
As a follow-up to the masterful Mad Max: Fury Road, Furiosa had a tough road to hoe. It mostly lives up to those lofty expectations, but it also suffers from the same ills that plague most prequels. We essentially knew the titular Furiosa's story. It was told brilliantly through the performance of Charlize Theron. Seeing it fully realized onscreen, as beautiful as it can be, doesn't feel entirely necessary. This only ends one way; we've been privy to that. In the end, your left to wonder whether it would've served this universe better to see what comes next. Why drudge up the past? Critics and audiences, those that actually saw it, loved what Furiosa had to offer. But that aforementioned question must have weighed on the general audience's mind. Grossing more than $200 million less than its predecessor, Furiosa lost a lot of money for WB. It may not have felt necessary, but it certainly deserved a better fate than that. Now, sit back, trade some guzzoline for a Sabre-Toothed Squirrel from Smog City Brewing, and top off your blood bag! The Thunderous Wizard, Chumpzilla, and Bling Blake are all shiny and chrome! There was a time when Hasbro envisioned a cinematic universe. Battleship was a cog in that misguided wheel, an expensive one at that. Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately for all us movie goers, Battleship sank before it even hit the seas. Critics and audiences alike found little joy or interest in a $200 million dollar blockbuster based on a slow-paced board game. To be fair, they were all correct. Battleship is a slog of a movie; and its nonsensical plot cannot be saved by the bombastic effects and action. Odds are that within minutes, you'll be sending an SOS to your TV to find something more entertaining. Now, sit back, arm your tastebuds with a Blind Pirate Blood Orange IPA from Monday Night Brewing, and don't promise any late night snacks if you can't deliver! The Thunderous Wizard, Chumpzilla, and Bling Blake are sinking alien ships and dropping super cool one-liners — mahalo mother f%$&er! SEASON 2 - EPISODE 122 - Jo Plaete - VFX Supervisor VFX supervisor Jo Plaete (HERE; ALIEN: ROMULUS; FURIOSA) joins us on this episode of the Team Deakins Podcast. Jo is also the Chief Innovation Officer at Metaphysic, and we spend much of the episode discussing the company's AI technology and its use in several recently-released films. Having come up through the VFX world, Jo compares the techniques of more traditional VFX artists to what he does today using artificial intelligence, and he likens the recently spotlighted technology to “proceduralism on steroids”. We get a deep dive into the tech behind the de-aging AI used on HERE, and Jo shares how the technology integrated itself into the production process to let the crew see what the final effect would look like in real-time. Jo also reflects on some of the troubleshooting that occurred between departments during production, and we discuss whether the filmmakers were working around the AI or if the AI was working with them. Jo also shares how data is fed into the technology to build out the model's understanding of a person's face, and Jo shares what they do with all that data once the show wraps. - This episode is sponsored by Aputure
