Nick (@NickRichWrites) returns to bring us a bad omen: The X Files: I Want to Believe. We talk about the second movie in all its late Bush era X Files glory? We try to piece together this scattered plot, discuss break up MSR, and whether the crew had one left in them. Some background on the second movie: https://thexfileswebarchive.neocities.org/secondmovie Tune in next time with our FINAL episode recap with S11E04 "The Lost Art of Forehead Sweat".
Trust no one, except for Filmshake, the 90s Movies Podcast, as this episode we're covering 1998's The X-Files, aka The X-Files: Fight the Future. Nic, a lifelong, diehard X-Phile, wants to believe that Jordan will enjoy this film, his first ever X-Files experience. Does Mulder and Scully's late 90s big screen foray hold up 25 years later? Also, even Nic can't put faith in 2008's The X-Files: I Want to Believe, this episode's punishment film. He does believe in Jordan, though, who fights for the ultimate trivia redemption in the episode-ending challenge. The second X-Files film is a good detective style mystery but features none of the series usual UFO mythology or “monster of the week” story-telling and as a result doesn't feel like an X-Files film. Plus, the marketing for the film fell well short of what was needed to promote the film against other releases such as the Dark Knight. Roger and Pascal think about what they would have done if they'd been in charge back in 2008 to create a much more hard hitting and immersive campaign. He was born in Detroit, Michigan and spent his teenage years in Albuquerque, New Mexico, but somehow, Xzibit ended up dominating West Coast hip-hop. Born Alvin Nathaniel Joiner, Xzibit is a multi-platinum-selling rapper who did not move to California until he was 18 years old, but it was on the West Coast that he quickly became a hip-hop icon. It's all about creativity, which also allowed him to expand his repertoire. Xzibit is also a reality TV star, actor, producer, and entrepreneur. “I see it as being able to come into an environment that was thriving and had rules and regulations and I was able to assimilate and blend well with the creative process that was happening,” Xzibit said during an episode of the RUN GPG Podcast hosted by David Morrell. “When you level the playing field, with creativity, that's how you stand out in that environment.” Xzibit wanted to be an architect and considered hip-hop a pastime. However, he built a solid reputation in the West Coast underground hip-hop scene. Eventually, he caught the eye (and ear) of Grammy-award winning rapper and producer Dr. Dre, who executive produced and helped name Xzibit's third album Restless. Dr. Dre also secured Xzibit a spot in the memorable ‘Up in Smoke' Tour with Dr. Dre, Eminem, Ice Cube, Nate Dogg, and Snoop Dogg, among others. Xzibit's popularity transcended hip-hop when he hosted MTV's Pimp My Ride from 2004 to 2007. He became so popular that he was more recognizable than the pope! Following the popularity of his reality TV series, the acting offers started pouring in. He had roles in 8 Mile, which starred fellow rapper Eminem, whose framed photographs were on Xzibit's background during the podcast, and XXX: State of the Union, which starred another fellow rapper, Ice Cube. Other memorable roles were in the award-winning TV series Empire and films Gridiron Gang and X-Files: I Want to Believe. Despite his success, there was a time when Xzibit experienced some setbacks that led to a five-year depression. It wasn't until he mentored James Savage, formerly known as Jayo Felony, that Xzibit was inspired to believe and start the creative process again. “I was able to put one foot in front of the other and go from a crawl to a walk, to a run to a sprint, and it took me out of that hamster wheel that I was dealing with,” said Xzibit of the experience. He shared this and so much when he sat down with David. Here are the other things Xzibit discussed in the RUN GPG Podcast: The West Coast hip-hop experience. Xzibit's early music influences. How Alvin Joiner became Xzibit. Xzibit's creative process. About the Up in Smoke Tour with Dr. Dre, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, Nate Dogg, and many more. Xzibit's working relationship with Dr. Dre. Some of Xzibit's favorite collaborations are those outside of hip-hop. What Xzibit says about Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Obie Trice, and Apathy. How Pimp My Ride introduced Xzibit to a much bigger audience, which brought in acting offers. Xzibit's five years in a dark place. James Savaged asked Xzibit for help, which in turn helped the rapper get out of his own head. Xzibit is hesitant to embrace the term ‘mentor' but says that he can dish out some good pieces of advice. Xzibit says you cannot believe your best praise or your worst criticism. The rapper says he had a choice between being a storyteller and telling his story, he chose the latter. Acting is something Xzibit really had to work on, unlike music, which comes out naturally. Xzibit shares something about Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Nicolas Cage, and Ice Cube. Xzibit launched his new business last year. Who are the three people invited to Xzibit's dinner? What Xzibit plans to celebrate a year from now. What's next for Xzibit? He will be releasing his next album, King Maker. “Hip-hop is where I started; a successful life is where I end up,” Xzibit said during our podcast when asked how he wants to be remembered. I was a MASSIVE X-Files fan back in 1994. As a young student, the whole flat used to get the beers in, camp out on the couch, eat Doritos, and dream of working a job with Gillian Anderson every Thursday night. Invariably we'd end up heading to the pub, discussing the episode, then staggering home at 1am because that's what students do.Now, 27 years later, at the end of our Alphabet Movie Challenge, I found a way to revisit those glorious student days with my kids (without the excessive drinking and staggering). "I Want To Believe" is classic X-File storytelling - psychics, weird science, experimental procedures, and Mulder and Scully arguing over the validity of what they're doing. We discuss the original X-files series, Pilot Episodes, Dr Isla gives us the low down on stem cells (its really interesting), getting up for school and Nieve nearly breaks down in tears at the thought of watching Top Gun....and it being good.If you enjoyed the show please leave a review here, it helps us grow.Podchaser - https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/kids-what-are-we-watching-toni-1324747You can also find us in the following places.
Happy 4th of July, Julie! We're celebrating the holiday (and Canada Day....) in Southport, North Carolina to discuss the seminal post-Scream slasher film I Know What You Did Last Summer. Joining us is Trace's husband, Ari Drew, who is getting a redo after Trace drunkenly botched his previous guest appearance on The X-Files: I Want to Believe. After Ari tells us how he tricked a bunch of straight dudes into seeing IKWYDLS back in 1997, we all discuss the film's unearned reputation as a "Scream rip-off" before praising it for being one of the most mature films of the slasher genre. Not only does it choose to focus on characters over kills (something that probably pissed off a lot of people looking for a traditional slasher), but it offers so many poignant moments between Julie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and Helen (Sarah Michelle Gellar). We'll also tackle the film's origins as an (extremely loose) adaptation of a Lois Duncan novel and analyze its place in slasher history as an ode to '80s slashers with a Scream aesthetic mixed in (it's the best of both decades!).Plus, getting boned up over long slashers, Jennifer Love Huge Tits, Ray "Not A Character" Bronson and Ryan "Do Me Daddy" Phillippe. Oh! And you don't think we'd spend two hours discussing this film without devoting an entire segment to Gellar's epic chase scene, do you?And if you want even more I Know What You Did Last Summer shenanigans, subscribe to the Final Girl tier on our Patreon to gain access to over 50 hours of bonus content, including a brand new audio commentary on I Still Know What You Did Last Summer!Questions? The Horror Queers are celebrating their 50th episode with a Very Special Episode discussing.....pedophilia? And The X-Files? If that sounds like a weird combination, it's because it is. Luckily, they have Trace's better half (i.e., husband) and X-Files stan Ari Drew helping them through this momentous occasion! What's the best way to reward your fans that have been watching your show for nine years? According to series creator Chris Carter, it's to release a completely standalone film that eschews the series' mythology in favor of trying to earn new viewers! Oh, and let's have very undeveloped and un-nuanced discussions about major issues like pedophilia, stem cell research and head-transplanted Frankenstein monsters that walk some murky areas on transgender issues.Oh, and Trace apologizes in advance for his incomprehensibility in the last half of the episode. He thought it would be a good idea to drink a very large glass of whiskey (on an empty stomach) during the recording. It wasn't. Good Evening all you creatures of the night and X-File fans, this week on the podcast the Terrible Trio discusses the 2008 film, "X-Files: I Want to Believe." This is the second X-Files film. It deals with the supernatural the dismemberant of human bodies. Pete unravels some insight into the connection to the TV show and we discuss where the film fits into the horror genre. Tune in to find out more!
In the latest episode of Film Stories with Simon Brew, the lengthy delays that hit a second X-Files movie, and the techno-thriller without much of its parent company's tech in it. The X-Files: I Want To Believe arrived years later than originally planned, held up by ongoing legal battles behind the scenes - and that changed the approach the movie took. As for 1995's The Net, the Sandra Bullock-headlined thriller originally had Bill Gates in mind to play one of its foes. And where isn't there much Sony technology in it? Stories of both are discussed in this episode. Find Simon on Twitter at @simonbrew, and the podcast can be found at @filmstoriespod. You can find the Film Stories website here.
This week Pat and Gibby cover the most iconic conspiracy couple known to history, Moulder and Scully. It's The X-Files (1998) and The X-Files: I Want To Believe. So much sexual tension! Will they? Wont they? Will they? I mean, our hosts are married, so, yeah.
It happens more than you think: you watch a great movie only to find out months (or years) later that it was based off an old TV show that you now have to go watch. Alternatively, you go see a movie based on a TV show you really love, only to be disappointed at the crappy shlock you were fed under the guise of characters you love. Well, J & Q are sick of the runaround. It's time, once and for all, to dive in and let you know what are the Top 5 TV-to-Movie Adaptations of All Time so you don't have to waste your hours on Charlie's Angels or The Last Airbender or The Dukes of Hazard or X-Files: I Want to Believe or.....you get it, there are a lot of shitty ones out there. Let Q & J provide a map to the best movies based of TV shows for you, so you can head straight for Star Trek and Mission: Impossible country and avoid It's Pat and The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle and Wild Wild West and Alvin and the Chipmunks and....Jesus, the shit just keeps on coming. Don't worry, we aren't going to talk TV and not have a #JennaJabber, highlighting the wonderful Jenna von Oÿ! So settle in, grab your popcorn, and power up that remote, we're headed into very tested waters and trying to avoid the debris.

The duo also look back at some of their favorite episodes from The X-Files TV series, shining a light on the show’s creepy creatures, unsettling conspiracies, and some of the most memorable moments between FBI Special Agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson). Whether you still believe or you're a skeptic, there's plenty to enjoy on this episode of Daily Dead's podcast!
On this week's episode, the gang chats about the dull as dirt—and totally unnecessary—sequel/continuation, The X-Files: I Want to Believe! Why does the film allow a convicted sex offender to dress down Scully? Why doesn't Mulder look more like Ted Kaczynski when in hiding? And how dare they put so little Skinner in this! PLUS: Wouldn't this movie be better if it ended with werewolves? The X-Files: I Want to Believe stars David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, Billy Connelly, Amanda Peet, Alvin 'Xzibit' Joiner, Billy Connolly, Callum Keith Rennie, and Mitch Pileggi; directed by Chris Carter.
This Week: I want to believe! Let's dive into the 2008 installment of THE X-FILES film series. It's the first time Mulder and Scully unite since the television series ended its original run in 2002. Next Week: We pick a new franchise to explore! You will believe a reboot can suck. But aren't Mulder and Scully just the best, guys? I mean, really.
Michael, Dave, David, and Erik cover the Howard Hawks science fiction classic The Thing from Another World (1951), the Sidney Poitier/Tom Berenger thriller Shoot to Kill (1988). and the much maligned second X-Files movie The X-Files: I Want to Believe (2008). And since it's the first episode of 2017, we also talk about our most anticipated movies for the year.
Six years after The X-Files TV show finished, Chris Carter reunited Mulder and Scully for their second big screen outing, I Want To Believe. Finally, we got to see Fox and Dana in the wild, taking a break from the alien conspiracy, and instead tackling the core theme of the show head on: faith. Join David, Avi, and Roi for an in-depth discussion of every phile’s second-favorite X-Files movie just TWO DAYS before the revival hits US TV – and see if you can better David as he takes on Roi’s questions in the podcast’s toughest quiz yet! Enjoy!
It's sort of a supernatural procedural with some issues, but overall it is an enjoyable flick. When the X-Files series ended, Mulder was on the run, Scully quit the FBI, and aliens were still planning to take over the earth. Fans were left in suspense, but after a long period in development hell, the X-Files returned to the big screen in 2008 to provide fans with the answers to some of those questions. Eschewing the show's dense mythology and instead focusing on a brand new one-off adventure involving a psychic pedophile priest and organ transplants. Did a one-off X-File make for a more satisfying summer film than the last, and did it make believers of our Now Playing hosts? Listen to find out!

Dave and Diane review X-Files: I want to believe.Acting: Dave thought the acting was decent, though he did not like Xzibit's performance and thought that Mulder and Scully's relationship was a bit weak. He also thought we should have seen more of Mitch Pileggi's character (Agent Skinner). Diane thought the acting was weak, citing the fact that she did not feel Xzibit or Amanda Peet acted like FBI agents. Directing: Dave liked how Chris Carter shot the movie, saying that it felt like an X-Files episode on a grander scale, but did not some of the plot decisions Carter made. Diane liked the directing as well, noting that she felt subtle undertones of horror movies and Catholocism. Music: Diane liked the music alot, and noted that it worked well and was passionate, while Dave wished that they had used music similar to that in the show.Message: Dave found the message in the movie to be a bit confused, with several conflicting ideas, but in general liked the fact that the movie gave breathing room for you to decide what you wanted to believe, even in regards to the veracity of the supernatural claims. Diane agreed, but stated that she did not like the fact that vehicle used to convey the message was a pedophile priest.Plot: Diane liked the plot, noting that it was able to keep her entertained. Dave thought it took some interesting turns, but overall did not like it. He believed it felt like standard fare for a thriller or CSI episode, not the X-Files.Comparison to the TV series: Dave (being a huge fan of the show) was dissapointed by the movie. He believed that, in comparison to the show, it had lost some of its "magic". He belived that Carter should have made the movie based on the UFO subplot towards the end of the series.Overall Grades: Diane gave the movie a C-, noting that people should simply skip this movie. Dave gave the movie a C+, and felt that fans of the series might want to check it out.Until next time, remember to: Get Reel! The music for this episode was provided by the Podshow Podsafe Music Network.
