We studied up on some beefs (Strava v. Garmin, Taylor v. Charli, pastrami v. sirloin) before this awesome episode! The main science topic was a new study evaluating low carb and high carb approaches, with and without caffeine. It's another brick in the wall supporting higher carb for adaptation. We also talked about the Strava lawsuit! Last week, we defended Strava like the big fans we are, only for them to file suit against Garmin over decade-old patents a day later. It doesn't seem to make sense from the outside. But as last week shows, what do we know? We talk about the details and speculate on some theories. And this one was full of so many great topics! Other topics: Megan's hungry girl era, uphill treadmill threshold training, our hot (lukewarm) takes on Taylor Swift's new album, Kilian's mind-bending States of Elevation project, the new beta fuel gel with electrolytes, a study evaluating advanced foams in trail shoes, and an AI study on sleep and jet lag recommendations, plus a Q+A on forgetting to eat, carbs in team sports, balancing cycling and running, carbs per hour, training in supershoes, doing adventures while following a training plan, why max heart rate isn't a good metric to track over time (or base HR zones on), calculating hill gradients, and post-exercise ketones.Taylor Swift's song “Wood” says “I don't need to catch a bouquet, to know a hard rock is on the way.” We assume she is talking about the Hardrock 100 mile race and she has a way to get around the lottery. Justine, your host, is running for the entire podcast. But this isn't just a simple run—it's The Trivia Treadmill Torture, a chaotic game designed by one half of the podcast duo who also happen to be trivia hosts at various pubs around town. The rules are simple: Justine must start running at a 3 mph brisk walk pace. Every trivia question she gets wrong, she must increase her speed. Her only hope for survival is to answer the questions correctly! Listen as Justine navigates four categories—Marathons, Miscellaneous, Music, and Twilight! Will knowing that a half marathon was once run backwards in under an hour and 40 minutes or correctly identifying a "negative split" save her from a grueling pace? Or will Kylie's questions about the original enemies of the ancient Greeks, or the unexpected alcoholic fuel of choice for Victorian runners force her to speed up?Tune in to find out if Justine survives this hilarious, pace-changing chaos, or if the final, random question about the top speed of a spider monkey pushes her past her breaking point right before the cooldown. This is high-stakes trivia where every wrong answer brings you closer to sprinting!Support the showRunningScaredMedia.comVisit our shop to purchase our jogcasts and other merchEmail us at: therunningscaredpodcast@gmail.comFollow us:Instagram @runningscaredmediaJoin our FB Running Group
Jeff shares about interior work, exterior work, and embarrassing treadmill mishaps.
If treadmill season makes you question your fitness — you're not alone. This week, Coach Zoë and TJ dig into why treadmill running often feels harder than road or trail running, and how to actually use it to your advantage. They'll unpack the biomechanics, heat buildup, and calibration quirks that make treadmills deceptively tough — and how to dial in effort-based training so you get real aerobic gains (without chasing meaningless numbers). Then they dive into adaptogens — what the science really says about ashwagandha, rhodiola, and all those “stress-busting” mushroom blends — and what actually works for performance and recovery. You'll walk away with a five-part recovery framework that prioritizes sleep, fueling, and nervous-system regulation over gadgets and gimmicks.Plus: we're kicking off our Run Your Best Marathon at Boston webinar series — four sessions that walk you through pacing, fueling, taper, and race-day execution with detailed tools and pro-level insight. Whether you're running Boston or any spring marathon, this series will help you show up calm, confident, and ready to crush it.

Have you ever been on the treadmill of success? That's what happens when the marketing works and now you've got too many clients, which can be exhausting. Will it ever end? I recruited my good friend, Ben Callahan, to tackle this question. And if you like what you hear, we'd love it if you write a review, subscribe here and sign up for Quick Tips from Marketing Mentor.
Today Dr. Mays shares a thought he had recently. He talks about the idea of not being a treadmill Christian. This is a person who “does so much for the Lord,” but remains spiritually stagnant. This week's episode of the I Love Neuro podcast explored an innovative rehabilitation technology that's allowing rehab professionals to incorporate multidimensional balance training in the safest, most objective way possible right now. Host Erin Gallardo, PT, DPT, NCS is joined by Todd Gilbertson from MediTouch USA and Chris McElderry, PT, DPT, NCS to discuss the BalancedTutor treadmill. Derived out of posturography technology this treadmill expands beyond assessment and actually allows clinicians to treat balance disorders to the whole spectrum of patients in a safe, effective and objective way - no jerry rigging required. As a clinician it benefits you to learn about the latest technology and equipment available, so this episode is simply to provide you with an inside peak conversation about a piece of equipment that is reducing falls and maximizing function for people with vestibular and balance disorders. You'll learn about the functionality of the system as well as hear from Chris McElderry, a clinician who has been using it in the clinic for 5 years. He shares how the device is able to create precise, graded perturbations that help patients build confidence and improve their functional mobility. Todd Gilbertson emphasized the technology's versatility, noting that it can simulate real-world balance challenges like walking on uneven sidewalks or navigating crowded spaces. The treadmill's advanced features include 30 intensity levels of movement and the ability to create anterior, posterior, medial, and lateral perturbations. On today's podcast I had the immense pleasure of chatting with the author of the book, ‘Octopus on a Treadmill', Gifty Enright. As a young woman growing up in Ghana she dreamt of having lots of shoes, big cupboards, and the trappings of success, so she moved to London to fulfill her dream. She quickly discovered that she missed that strong sense of community that she enjoyed in Ghana, but she dug deep and carved out a very successful career and life for herself in London. After a number of years this successful, hard working career mum hit a “Burnout” wall that she knew could not be solved with the medication that was being prescribed to her. This avid reader who was determined to get better, did some deep research to find a sustainable solution to her life situation. She applied what she learnt and after just three months she was on the road to recovery and hasn't looked back since. She wrote the book 'Octopus on a Treadmill' to share what she learned so that other busy career mums who are constantly juggling don't hit the same burnout wall that she did. As well as being an author, she is a public speaker and a coach and she doesn't care so much about those shoes anymore! What's better for performance? Hitting the pavement outside or getting those kilometres in on the trusty treadmill at the gym?
What if you accomplished everything you wanted, but still felt empty?Pierce Showe is in the business of extreme discipline — a language spoken by the world's top performers. He spent the early part of his career as the right hand to Super Bowl champion Steve Weatherford before stepping fully into his calling as a faith-driven endurance athlete and coach. He's completed multiple 100- and 200-mile ultramarathons, an Ironman, and an Ultraman — pushing human limits with grit, purpose, and an unshakable faith in God. Most recently, Pierce broke the Guinness World Record for most consecutive treadmill half-marathons (153 days) to raise awareness for healthier school meals and the broken food system in America. While Pierce's faith is central to his life and message, his experiences and insights resonate with both faith-based and secular audiences. Whether speaking to entrepreneurs, athletes, or personal growth communities, he tailors each conversation to inspire action, build discipline, and help listeners push past their perceived limits.Today, he helps high-achieving entrepreneurs, leaders, and everyday athletes run the race set before them — physically, mentally, and spiritually — through the same principles of discipline, consistency, and faith that have shaped his life.Jon chats with Pierce about:How Faith Grounds Pierce in Life, Running, and BusinessHow he broke a Guiness World RecordHis second time running the Leadville 100His passion for addressing problems with the US Food SystemHis Locked-In Mental Approach to Succeed in RacesStay connected:Follow Pierce:Instagram: instagram.com/pierceshoweYouTube: youtube.com/@pierceshoweWebsite: www.runyourrace.comThis episode is supported by:Boulderthon: Our favorite Colorado race event with a variety of distances. 14 September 2025 | This week Pastor Evan continues our This is the Gospel sermon series in Luke 18:9-14 and 18-23, where he discusses the ways in which we shrink the cross by wearing masks and pretending we're more holy than we are or performing to earn God's approval. The Pharisee and the Tax Collector 9 He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and treated others with contempt: 10 “Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee, standing by himself, prayed[a] thus: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I get.' 13 But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!' 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.” The Rich Ruler 18 And a ruler asked him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” 19 And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone. 20 You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery, Do not murder, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother.'” 21 And he said, “All these I have kept from my youth.” 22 When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” 23 But when he heard these things, he became very sad, for he was extremely rich.

We had a shocking change of feelings about shockingly ugly shoes before this amazing episode! The main topic was a pair of studies on energy expenditure and replenishment. The first was a case study that found massive energy needs beyond base metabolic rate for a full week after an ultra. We zoom out to discuss what that could mean for energy needs during hard training. The second study examined muscle v. liver glycogen replenishment, highlighting how difficult it can be to stay on top of energy needs. It also featured cod. Cod is a big theme in this episode. And this one was full of great topics! Other topics: treadmill workouts, an update on the ugly shoe debate from last week, our favorite probiotic and multivitamin, road supershoes for ultras, Tom Evans' fueling strategy at UTMB, how the use of pacing statistics may change the game, high-dose creatine to counter sleep deprivation, timing of big training weeks before races, heart rate zones v. feel, overcoming injury cycles, our theories for altitude performance, speed v. freshness in workouts, whether the pain cave exists in shorter events, using stairs in training, and lots more. This one was full of love, laughs, and cod. So much cod.May we all avoid being in the control group,-David and MeganClick "Claim Reward" for free credit at The Feed here: thefeed.com/swap For training plans, weekly bonus podcasts, articles, and videos: patreon.com/swapBuy the Kickr Run treadmill (code "SWAP"): https://www.wahoofitness.com/devices/running/treadmills/kickr-run-buyBuy Janji's amazing gear: https://janji.com/ (code "SWAP")

Andrew Barr is a comedian and recovering addict who's preparing to record his debut comedy special, “The 13th Hour,” in a packed Toronto comedy club this weekend. But just before that, he plans to push his body to the limit by running on a treadmill for 12 hours straight. The show is a metaphor for how addiction slowly breaks down a person's body and isolates them from their loved ones. His hope is to raise money for the rehab centre that helped him turn it all around. Andrew joins guest host Gill Deacon to tell us more about the project, and how it's his way of giving voice to those who struggle with drug and alcohol addiction.

This talk on reincarnation takes a different angle from our earlier discussion in the Bhagavad-gita Wisdom Series. Last time, we explored how we came to have our present body. In this session, we shift the focus to discussing two common ideas about reincarnation — that it offers a second chance to “get things right,” or that it's like being stuck on an endless treadmill. As part of the discussion we also delve into the Vedic perspective on the repeated cycle of birth and death, known as saṁsāra.The link to the ancient Vedic story about Jaḍa Bharata which I mentioned in the talk is here:Mistaking a Saint for a Fool – Jada Bharata - https://open.spotify.com/episode/0pwBt4zs0EqWUDMmWYNURx?si=5QF4-a-IRNGhBGw_GIpyvQ The Vedic verses I quote in this talk: As the embodied soul continuously passes, in this body, from boyhood to youth to old age, the soul similarly passes into another body at death. A sober person is not bewildered by such a change. - Bhagavad-gītā 2.13As a person puts on new garments, giving up old ones, the soul similarly accepts new material bodies, giving up the old and useless ones. - Bhagavad-gītā 2.22Whatever state of being one remembers when he quits his body, that state he will attain without fail. - Bhagavad-gītā 8.6The living entity in the material world carries his different conceptions of life from one body to another as the air carries aromas. - Bhagavad-gītā 15.8The caterpillar transports itself from one leaf to another by capturing one leaf before giving up the other. Similarly, according to his previous work, the living entity must capture another body before giving up the one he has. This is because the mind is the reservoir of all kinds of desires. - Bhāgavata Purāṇa 4.29.76-77The living entity, thus taking another gross body, obtains a certain type of ear, tongue, and nose and sense of touch, which are grouped about the mind. He thus enjoys a particular set of sense objects. - Bhagavad-gītā 15.9When the living entity passes from the present body to the next body, which is created by his own karma, he becomes absorbed in the pleasurable and painful sensations of the new body and completely forgets the experience of the previous body. This total forgetfulness of one's previous material identity, which comes about for one reason or another, is called death. Marketing your small business can (if you're not careful) become a full-time job. Creating posts, tweaking funnels, showing up online, trying every strategy you hear about – the pressure to be “on” 24/7… It's exhausting. In this episode, we are talking about marketing burnout, and how constant content production can slowly consume all your time. But, I'll also walk you through how to shift from doing MORE to doing what is RIGHT, and how I made that shift myself. Here's What You'll Discover in the Episode: Why more marketing does NOT mean better marketing (and why getting stuck in ‘production mode' can hurt your business long term) The real reasons behind marketing burnout, how to spot them early, and why we're seeing more and more small business owners burning out How to tell the difference between strategic innovation that WORKS, and falling for shiny objects Why you MUST revisit your ideal client, pricing, and offers before jumping to “do more” How to escape the trap of constant content production and find joy in your marketing again Discover where marketing burnout comes from… and what could happen if you don't address it What to do FIRST if you've been feeling drained by your marketing and the pressure to keep up with your peers My personal experience with marketing burnout, and how I've made my marketing 10x better… WITHOUT spending 10x more time on it. Send us a textWhy does happiness feel so elusive for so many of us? Maybe you've had the experience where you long for a change, believing that once this change occurs then you'll finally be happy. Then that change happens, but it didn't deliver lasting happiness. You buy the new thing, take the vacation, achieve the goal, get the promotion and you feel happy for a while but eventually it feels like you're back where you started. In today's episode of the Psychedelic Therapy Frontiers podcast, we explore the phenomenon knows as the “hedonic treadmill”--the tendency for people to quickly return to a relatively stable level of happiness despite major positive or negative events or life changes. We discuss examples of this in action, possible evolutionary explanations for this tendency, the role of dopamine, how it relates to habit formation and addiction, exceptions to this tendency, ways to get off the treadmill, and much more. For those of you who are new to the show, welcome!
