We talk about what it means to be “50 and Fabulous” and what life lessons she's learned each decade leading to 50 that she would tell her younger self. What would you tell your younger self? What do you wish you would have known that would have given you more confidence, clarity, and purpose throughout your lifetime? How do our childhood experiences still apply to our lives today? In today's episode we celebrate fathers by having a conversation with the expert father to our children, Tyrell Taitt. I couldn't think of a better person to have not only talk about fatherhood in general, but to talk about black fatherhood in today's society and what it's been like to be a father himself. This conversation is an opportunity to dispel myths, shatter stereotypes, and celebrate black fatherhood. Tyrell Taitt, founder of Bound for Speed, LLC, is the 1993 NCAA Triple Jump Champion, participated in the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Trials, and is a celebrated jump coach at Reservoir High School in Fulton, MD. I'm sure the most important title to him today is father of Asha and Zuri. In today's episode we are discussing anything and everything related to friendship, motherhood, race and mental health. You will meet my childhood friend, Amy Mahoney from the Laura Foundation, Inc. and what's been going on in her life since we graduated from high school back in Massachusetts. Why is this conversation important? Because we led similar lives in school, ultimate overachievers, parents who were teachers, high expectations for our lives and growing up in a town that “didn't see color.” We rarely talk to across races and cultures about anything that impacts our lives as adults. BLM, Me Too movement, mental health, parenting, and health overall as we age. That's why I feel it's so important to have this conversation.

2020 was challenging to many of us as we battled through the pandemic. We had to re-examine our health, work, finances, and most importantly, how we "do" education in this country. Anytime there is loss or change, there is a greater opportunity to learn, expand, and grow. In this episode, Shannon talks with her two favorite experts, her children, Asha and Zuri, about tips and advice they have for other students and parents to survive and thrive during virtual school.
February 19th is a special day for me as I celebrate the life of my mother, Mable Beasley, on what would have been her 78th birthday. It was an honor to be a caregiver for her during her battle with stage 4 cancer. Caregiving is challenging for many of us during the best of times. Today we will talk with Tosha Barnes, who is currently the primary caregiver for her mother during the COVID-19 pandemic. This episode will not only give you a short break to relax and have a quiet moment to yourself, but to also understand that you are not alone. Those of you who are not caregivers currently can get a deeper understanding of the sacrifice that is made to keep loved ones safe. I want to dedicate this episode all the caregivers out there who are just do their best.
