This week's passage, Matthew 6:25-34, sure seems a lot like singing with Bobby McFerrin, "Don't Worry Be Happy," which is easier said than done (amiright?). So there must be more to it than that. Towards the end of this passage comes one of Jesus's famous sayings, "Seek first the kingdom of God and God's righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." So let's examine the problem of being worried and anxious, and understand what the bible teaches us on this topic. We can build strength to fight against fear
It's been a minute since our last episode, and as we step into a new year, it's clear that for many of us, things haven't quite gone as planned. In particular, I'm referring to friends and family in Los Angeles, who are grappling with the aftermath and the ongoing devastating fires, and to those facing social, environmental, and political challenges. I've recently returned from attending the 11th Annual Podfest Expo in Orlando, FL, and as a first time attendee, I am reinvigorated and more committed than ever to bringing you authentic, inspiring, and hope-filled stories. A heartfelt thank you to Chris Krimitsos, the visionary and founder behind Podfest, for creating an event built on education, collaboration, and community. It's a place where, as he says, "Your Voice Matters," reminding us all to use our words and energy wisely. It's no small coincidence then, that my first guest of 2025, has built her business and personal mission on teaching both children and adults, the fundamentals of kindness and collaboration. Attributes that appear to be in short supply these days and yet as my experience at Podfest just proved, these qualities can exist given the right leadership, nurturing and creativity. And speaking of nurturing and creativity, my guest Sandra Beckwith, is all of the embodiment of these qualities and so much more. She's the author of numerous e-books, 10 and counting, and is a passionate advocate for civility, with her ‘Master Keys for Kids,' a collection aiming to instill kindness, respect, gratitude, and compassion in our youth. These fundamental values, though seemingly very scarce today, are essential for nurturing a more respectful and empathetic society. Its companion series of character tales, ‘A Manner for All Seasons' is the second release of what's soon to be a trilogy of living into your life purpose, and serves as a tool for families, classrooms and faith communities. Be anxious for nothing, but pray about everything and tell God what you need. But doesn't God already know what we need before we ask? That's what Jesus said! So why pray? Because we can verbalize what we need, which is admitting, “God, I can't do this (fill in the blank) on my own and I need you.” When we try to take control of things, we make a huge mess of it and it can cause all kinds of anxiety. We think it must be done yesterday and we have to have it NOW! But God doesn't work on our time table, He isn't bound by any time frame, but He does care about our needs and He wants to supply those needs and be glorified in our lives. God creates something from nothing so I'm sure He can provide whatever we need so quit worrying and put your faith in God!

Jesus asked, “Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” What point is Jesus trying to make about worry? What does worry produce in our life that don't want?3. Jesus said that “your heavenly Father knows that you need them.” What difference would it make in your life if you knew without a doubt that the Father knew and understood what you were going through, even if your circumstances didn't change?4. Jesus tells us that worry is evidence of a faith problem. How does worry indicate that we are viewing something incorrectly about our heavenly Father?5. Read Philippians 4:6-7: Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. --- Why does a heart of gratitude (thanksgiving) help remove a heart of worry? How can you tangibly practice gratitude when you are worried?6. The first thing my guest, Paul Schmidt, would like you to know about him, is that as a single dad, his teenage son, Robbie, is his world and his reason for everything. Which is incredibly endearing considering the level of success he's attained in a variety of professional and creative endeavors. Perhaps his success is due to being cast at the age of six in the role of “God” in his school play and that has “anointed” his efforts ever since. For years Paul would continue his Thespian pursuits acting in just about anything he could, which in 1980's Baltimore meant musicals, as he performed in over 20 of them before he turned 18. Once he was out of college, he pursued a successful career in broadcasting, and started on-air at 98 Rock in Baltimore, and eventually went on-air full-time at WRDX in Wilmington, DE for almost a decade. Adding to his performance repertoire, Paul did stand-up comedy and owned and operated Christina's Comedy Zone at Dover Downs Hotel and Casino for 3 years, which won Best Comedy Club in Delaware Today Magazine. He also did a year of improv in the Baltimore troupe of ComedySportz. For the past 25 years, Paul has poured his stage and on-camera acting experience into commercial and corporate voiceover work, and voicing for hundreds of small and medium-sized businesses via explainer videos, e-learning, corporate training, medical narration, and audiobooks. As a community builder and business coach, Paul created the VO Freedom Master Plan, a voiceover marketing program designed to generate consistent opportunities for voice actors to book work, and the VO Pro Community, a private, professional, global community created to meet the needs of voice actors and audiobook narrators who want to take their careers to the next level.
