516-A Pastor with a "Prostitute" Mindset Changed His Ways: Jerry's Story There's a quiet frustration many good men carry. You've tried to talk. You've tried to suggest counseling, books, podcasts—something. You've even tried explaining your heart. And still… she doesn't seem to listen. Doesn't engage. Doesn't change. If that's you, let me say this gently but clearly: God may be asking you to go first. And yes—that can feel unfair. But it is also where real transformation begins. When You Find Yourself Becoming Someone You Didn't Want to Be One husband recently shared that after nearly three decades of marriage and years of faithful ministry, he found himself in a place he never expected. Not because his marriage had been bad. But because it was changing—and he wasn't prepared. His wife's body was changing. Their season of life was shifting. Transitions piled up. And slowly, something in him hardened. He was becoming "grouchy" and "crusty". He said it plainly: "I just didn't like how I was becoming… and I didn't like how I was treating my wife." That awareness matters. Because most men don't wake up one day intending to pressure, resent, or withdraw. It happens subtly—when expectations go unmet and entitlement slowly but surely begins to creep in. A Marriage That Became Transactional Instead of Sacrifical Many men come to this work believing, "If my wife would just listen… if she would just change… then we'd be okay." But here's the truth that was exposed in this man's life: he was living transactionally. "I didn't realize I was living in a transactional relationship until those transactions weren't happening." In other words: I give love → I expect intimacy. I serve → I expect responsiveness. This man had never thought of himself as transactional—until intimacy slowed and frustration surged. That's when God began to do the deeper work. Take the Focus Off Intimacy to Heal Intimacy One of the most countercultural invitations men hear in this process is simple—and deeply uncomfortable: Take your foot off the gas. Not forever. But for now. Because a woman cannot open her body when her heart doesn't feel safe. She needs to feel safe, known, and wholeheartedly cherished—especially in seasons of vulnerability like menopause, grief, exhaustion, or long-term transition. This husband learned that before asking anything of his wife, God was asking him to rebuild safety. And that required humility. The "Prostitute" Mindset Going through the Masculinity Reclaimed process, this man shared something that he learned that changed everything for him: "[Belah said] you guys are treating your wives like prostitutes. And the fact that you are not making them feel safe. You are not making them feel fully known...and you are not wholeheartedly cherishing your wives. Yet, you know, you flip the switch at...10 o'clock, 11 o'clock at night, and you want intimacy, and you're getting grouchy or whatever when that doesn't happen." He had never seen it this way before, and it changed everything for him. It was painful to hear. And necessary. Because intimacy without safety and care doesn't feel like love to a woman—it feels like obligation. Doing the Work Made a Change in Their Marriage This man didn't tell his wife he was doing the work at first. But she noticed anyway. She noticed the listening. The gentleness. The apologies for things that happened years ago. And eventually, she asked. Change preached is often resisted. Change embodied is felt. Yes, intimacy improved. But that's not what this husband points to as the greatest win. He says the real transformation was internal: Healthier expectations A reordered life A clearer understanding of his responsibility as a man Final Encouragement If you're waiting for your wife to change before you soften… If you're tempted to push, convince, or withdraw… If you're tired of feeling unseen… Hear this: God honors the man who goes first. Not the man who wins the argument. You are not alone. And this is not the end of your story. It may be the beginning of the truest work God has ever done in you. You can do this, sir. God bless you!   With love, The Delight Your Marriage Team PS – Ready to take the next step in renewing your heart and your marriage? We would love to chat with you. PPPS – Here is a quote from (another) recent graduate: "We argued a lot. Said hurtful things to each other.  Raised voices in front of the kids.  Less emotional connection generally.  Sex felt merely physical and not emotionally connected...not fulfilling. Usually felt like duty. And I have always been initiating and my wife has often complained about that...[Now], I've become more contented and patient and focused on her needs and a better listener I think.  She says our home has less tension since I've been doing the program.  I take that as a win!  She has initiated twice in the past 2 weeks!  Very rare before this!" In the first episode of our January series, The Year for Irrational Hope, Leah Smart sits down with bestselling author Bruce Feiler about lifequakes – the major transitions that upend our lives, whether we choose them or not. From career changes and relationships to loss, parenthood, and global uncertainty, Bruce explains why expecting a linear life creates so much stress, and why most of us are actually in transition far more often than we realize. They explore the three equally nonlinear phases of change: the long goodbye, the messy middle, and the new beginning, and why hope isn't blind optimism, but a learnable skill. Bruce also shares how rituals, the focus of his upcoming book, can help us reconnect and heal collectively during uncertain times. This conversation offers a clear reframe for anyone feeling lost, overwhelmed, or unsure how to move forward: you're not broken, and you're not alone. Follow Bruce Feiler on LinkedIn and find his book “Life is in the Transitions” here.  For more from Leah Smart while Everyday Better goes on hiatus, follow her on Substack,  LinkedIn and Instagram.

Week 25 of pregnancy and the first episode of the new year—this one is a soft reset. In this episode, I'm reflecting on the quiet shift that happens after the holidays, why I let winter linger a little longer, and how we don't have to rush joy just because the calendar turns. From keeping the lights up to easing into the year ahead, I'm sharing how I'm preparing—mentally, emotionally, and gently—for becoming a first-time mom this spring. We'll talk about self-care that actually counts, especially for caregivers and anyone holding a lot right now, and why small acts of care are still care. I'm also sharing what people are really saying about 2026—not trends or pressure, but a collective move toward slower living, stability, and integration. This episode is an invitation to soften, to validate where you are, and to welcome what's next without rushing what's still warming you.Follow Your Host:Insta:https://www.instagram.com/rumor_in_stpetersburg TikTok:https://www.tiktok.com/@rumor_in_stpetersburg FB Page: https://www.facebook.com/theluxuryofselfcare Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/user/ahnastasia88?si=ab36621742b4474cPhoto and Music Credit: Cover Art Photography by Tori Radick: https://www.instagram.com/toricophotography/Intro/Outro Music Produced by Ryan Blivhovde: https://www.instagram.com/ryanblihovde/

Aaron Miller, Vice President of International Ministry at The Voice of the Martyrs, looks back to recount changes and transitions he saw during 2025 in places like Syria, Turkmenistan, Tanzania, and Saudi Arabia. He also shares stories of sitting down with fellow believers in hostile areas and restricted nations and how VOM's work expanded in countries such as Benin, Indonesia, Morocco, and western Nepal. "In times of transition," Aaron says, "our staff sees opportunities." VOM's field staff is excited by the chance to reach new places, which allows them to learn the needs of our persecuted brothers and sisters, pray for them specifically and find the best ways VOM can serve. You'll hear how VOM is facilitating gatherings where pastors and gospel workers meet brothers and sisters doing similar work in other closed countries. These gatherings are opportunities to hear testimonies, pray together and worship the Lord freely with other persecuted Christians. Listen as Aaron shares sacred sentences written in a letter from an imprisoned pastor thanking VOM for taking care of his wife and children. "I want to thank you for ministering to orphans of living fathers," the pastor wrote, "ministering to widows of living husbands." This is the last episode of 2025 so I wanted to share a few reflections before jumping into the main conversation. 2025 has been a year with lots of change. Many friends have experienced their lives majorly disrupted in unexpected ways. Completely turned upside down. In my personal journey, I lost my dad which was a catalyst for lots of reflection and subsequent growth. My identity shifted significantly in the past few months as my husband changed jobs and I am no longer part of the Foreign Service Life—something that majorly influenced everything (no exaggeration) in my life for the past 15 years. I'm grateful for the amazing conversations that I've been able to have here on the podcast. I continue to meet people who inspire me, teach me, challenge me, and encourage me. These conversations woven into the challenges of life create a beautiful tapestry that I am incredibly grateful for!I'm more convinced than ever that every single human has amazing stories and I'm even more excited and honored than when I started, to host and share some of these stories here on the Make Life Less Difficult podcast. We're 4.5 years into the journey, almost 260 episodes and I still have a long list of people who I want to have on the podcast and I'm continuing to meet wonderful people who I want to have on the podcast! What a beautiful gift and journey this is. Thank you SO much for being part of it. Whether you are a regular listener, an occasional listener, or a first time listener, whether you've been a guest, will be a future guest, or never care to be a guest, I'm deeply grateful for you! I'm grateful for Russ Watts who guest hosts and co-hosts and continues to be an amazing collaborator in the storytelling world! If you would like to support this endeavor, there's a link in the show notes to a platform called “Buy me a coffee”. Click that and anything you share is greatly appreciated. As we approach 2026, I hope to expand and grow this podcast, so taking time to leave a review helps with that and also sharing an episode or two with a friend or three! I'm also looking to expand my speaking engagements, so please keep me in mind if you know of opportunities or needs for speakers and presenters. For those of you who find a word or theme for the year, I'll share that my word for 2026 is Space. It's a reminder and encourager for me to take up space in the world, be intentional about my external and internal spaces. And ironically (or maybe serendipitously) I currently have a palate expander that is making me talk with this different diction. So literally I'm creating more space in my mouth and head. And I just put that together with my word for the year as I was preparing these thoughts. Very cool! And now I'd like to invite you into a beautiful conversation with my guest, Craig Stanton. We explore transitions and forgotten words and much more. I'm delighted to share this as the final episode of 2025. Have a wonderful start to 2026! And if you need a goal for the new year, come be a guest with me here! And now… my conversation with Craig!Connect with Craig on LinkedInRead more about the Book of Forgotten Words on Craig's Substack: https://open.substack.com/pub/forgottenwordsSupport the showMake Life Less Difficult~ Support:buymeacoffee.com/lisatilstra

In this episode of the UpliftHER Leadership Series on the Self-Care Goddess Podcast, I had the pleasure of speaking with Mary Brodie , digital experience strategist, founder of Gearmark, two-time author, and a thoughtful voice at the intersection of technology, human experience, and conscious leadership. Our conversation was a beautiful, expansive exploration of what it truly means to navigate change with grace. Mary shared her nonlinear career journey from aspiring English professor to digital strategist, from corporate roles shaped by layoffs and pivots to founding her own consultancy — and the deep self-awareness, curiosity, and compassion that carried her through each chapter. This episode weaves together career evolution, leadership, spirituality, and resilience, offering gentle yet powerful insights for anyone navigating uncertainty or redefining success on their own terms.✨ Here's what we explored in this rich and reflective conversation:✅ Embracing nonlinear career paths and releasing the pressure to “have it all figured out” ✅ Why knowing what you don't want can be just as powerful as knowing what you do ✅ Navigating layoffs, job loss, and career transitions without internalizing shame ✅ Reframing rejection and understanding that most setbacks are not personal ✅ The role of curiosity, experimentation, and flexibility in conscious leadership ✅ How meditation, Buddhism, and self-compassion reshaped Mary's inner world ✅ The difference between empathy and compassion — and why compassion creates healthier boundaries ✅ Letting go of codependency and learning not to take things personally ✅ Acceptance as a leadership skill, not a form of resignation ✅ Insights from Mary's upcoming book: Acceptance: The Key to Being a Good ListenerMary reminds us that most paths are reversible, few decisions are permanent, and growth often comes from allowing ourselves to pause, reflect, and evolve. Through her wisdom and lived experience, she invites us to lead with presence, listen more deeply, and meet life's transitions with compassion rather than fear.Leadership isn't about certainty; it's about awareness. When we stop taking life's twists personally and start meeting them with acceptance and curiosity, we open the door to more aligned, human-centered leadership.✨ Take a deep breath. Your journey doesn't need to make sense to anyone else — only to you.Connect with Mary BrodieLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/mfbrodie/Amazon Author Page: https://www.amazon.com/stores/Mary-Brodie/author/B07ZBP6359?shoppingPortalEnabled=trueWebsite: https://www.mfbrodie.com/Connect with Me ( Rita)Instagram | https://www.instagram.com/ritasavoia_/?hl=enFacebook | https://www.facebook.com/savoia1X | https://x.com/rsavoia?lang=enLinkedIn | https://www.linkedin.com/in/ritasavoia/?originalSubdomain=ca

Happy Boxing Day! Let's talk about transitions and what you need to declutter or add to resemble where you are going. We are all transitioning into the new year. I'm sharing the smallest shift you can make to be more intentional with what you want to get out of 2026. How are you planning with that anticipatory energy of things to come when the ball drops at midnight on New Years Eve? Transition So yes, we are all transitioning into a new year. We have this anticipatory energy as to what could happen for us in 2026.  For me personally I'm thinking about a "new me" too. I know this is common for this time of year but if you have been listening to the podcast you know this has been on my radar in 2025. I have adjusted and transitioned into a person who works out. I shared some habits I've made with my workout schedule, water consumption, increasing my movement, and changes in my eating habits this past year.  Increasing my workout frequency, it dawned on me that I may need to buy more clothes for pilates. I've transitioned into a person that works out. But my workout clothes did not reflect that. I started in gardening shorts and Organize 365® v-necks. Time to make my clothes reflect my intentions.  You see, I find it beneficial to set my environment to match the intention of the transformation I'm working towards. It's a small shift that has had a big impact. So I will be getting a few new items for working out. Because I am now a person who works out.  When you consider transitions you have made this year it may require changes in wardrobe, equipment, and maybe your office, to do, be, and have what you want in 2026. You kids too will transition. Maybe they need new age appropriate toys, better fitting clothes, or even a uniform for a new club they joined. Transformation How can you signify to yourself that you have changed? The smallest yet effective thing I have done in my transformation processes is to make my environment match how I identify with myself. I needed new clothes that a person who works out wears. I needed a new water bottle once I realized the office has reverse osmosis and the waste I was creating with my bottled water; because I'm a person who drinks water.  I want you to carefully consider what did you learn in 2025 and what new habits will be going into 2026 with you as a result of who you transformed into.   Transition – > Transformation Put it all together? Planning Day is the perfect time to really reflect on all these ideas. How do you use your time now? What habits did you change? Are you choosing a word of the year? It's the time to decide what habits are going with you into the new year,  set some intentions, and make your environment match those intentions. We'll take six combined hours between Prep Planning Day(2 hours on 12/29) and Planning Day (6 hours on 12/31) to look at your time to see where you can pop in new things to try out that will support your intentions. And if a large project like sprucing up a room or getting a PhD is part of the transformation you can get to planning what that will look like with your real life, your real family, and your real goals.  EPISODE RESOURCES: The Sunday Basket® Planning Day Sign Up for the Organize 365® Newsletter  Did you enjoy this episode? They didn't chase an exit. They designed alignment.  Drs. Ed and Lisa Wentz built successful practices: Ed a 10-practice orthodontic group, and Lisa a highly intentional solo practice. But their transition out of practice required something different. A shared filter grounded in faith, family, and stewardship. What they reveal isn't a strategy. It's a mindset that protects marriages, teams, and purpose long after the deal closes. This conversation walks through how they navigated selling, honored their teams, and resisted the pressure to follow someone else's timeline. If you're wondering how to transition without drifting, burning out, or losing alignment, this episode is a guide.
