Aging with ADHD often hides in the background of our conversations, even though so many of us feel its effects every day. In this episode, we bring it forward with help from Jami Shapiro, whose work sits right at the intersection of ADHD, transitions, and later-life planning. She's a senior move manager, ADHD coach, and the voice behind Grandma Has ADHD. Her mix of humor, candor, and lived experience sets the tone for a conversation that feels both comforting and disarming.Jami's ADHD diagnosis arrived in her mid-40s, long after she had built a career, raised children, and weathered major life changes. The bigger surprise came later: realizing her mother had been living with ADHD as well, completely undiagnosed into her seventies. That discovery reshaped not only Jami's understanding of her family history but also the emotional patterns she had carried for decades. It softened old misunderstandings and gave her and her mother a way to talk to each other that hadn't existed before. From there, the conversation widens into the many transitions that come with midlife and beyond—downsizing, empty rooms once filled by children, changing routines, and the simple pressure of making decisions when every choice feels weighty. Jami explains how emotional intensity, uncertainty, and decision fatigue show up more sharply for ADHD adults, especially as responsibilities shift and long-established structures fall away. She walks us through what makes these transitions overwhelming and what actually helps when “just start somewhere” doesn't land.We also spend time on the parent–child dynamic that emerges when adult children try to help their aging parents with organizing or downsizing. Jami gives a clear look at why these roles easily tangle, how shame gets triggered on both sides, and why a neutral guide often makes the work calmer for everyone involved. Her stories from years of senior move management reveal patterns that many families will recognize instantly. There's also a practical side to this conversation: how to create a floor plan before a move, how to sort sentimental objects without spiraling, how to use photos and “family show-and-tell” conversations to preserve memories, and how to stay grounded when technology becomes a barrier. Jami talks openly about scams, tech overwhelm, and the very real worries older adults carry about cognitive decline—topics that are easier to avoid than to name, but essential for keeping ourselves and our loved ones safe. The heart of this episode is simple: learning about ADHD later in life doesn't erase the years behind you, but it can change how you interpret them. It can ease old guilt, untangle family stories, and give you permission to approach the next chapter with more clarity and less self-blame. Jami's work is full of that spirit, and her guidance makes the process of aging with ADHD feel less isolating and more like something we can navigate together.Links & NotesJami ShapiroSupport the Show on PatreonDig into the podcast Shownotes Database (00:00) - Welcome to Taking Control: The ADHD Podcast (01:02) - Support the Show on Patreon (01:48) - Introducing Jami Shapiro • Aging with ADHD (11:04) - Transitions (21:21) - Scams and Cognitive Decline (25:48) - Giving Up vs Letting Go (30:54) - Where to Start? Send us a textWhat if the cliché about rolling stones is wrong—and motion can grow moss? We sit down with Mercy, a veteran, military nurse, coach, and unmistakable force of nature, to unpack how change, faith, and community can turn chaos into clarity. From acing the ASVAB to laying bricks in steel-toed boots, she went from nuclear-engineering hopes to civil engineering reality, proving that prestige doesn't equal purpose and grit is a decision you make daily.Mercy shares the mental model that keeps her steady: every event has two levers—what you can control and what you can't. That simple rule, learned in childhood and sharpened in uniform, becomes a survival tool for boot camp, career pivots, and the “single wife” paradox of military spouse life. She opens up about managing information during deployments, protecting her husband's focus while rebuilding order at home, and the art of expectation management when a parent returns. The takeaway is practical and tender: steward timing, protect connection, and act where your agency matters. We also explore time as both transmission and revelation. Some experiences can only happen in their season; others make sense only in hindsight. Mercy's approach blends Stoic clarity with active faith, echoing the regret minimization lens: make choices today that your future self will be proud to remember. She lays out a playbook for community as a strategy—finding a YMCA and a church before you even unpack—so isolation never gets a foothold. Parenting through absence, reintegration with care, and keeping discipline secondary to connection round out her family blueprint. If you're navigating a transition, wrestling with control, or rebuilding after a move, this conversation offers a map. Tap play for resilient mindset shifts, marriage and parenting strategies for military families, and a grounded philosophy you can apply anywhere. In this episode of Future Focused: Sophisticated Estate Planning, host Michael Clear welcomes Corporate Partner Daniela Spanos to dive into planning strategies tailored for founder-owned businesses navigating an exit or a transition to a new form of ownership. They examine the key drivers behind seller decisions, such as liquidity needs and retirement goals, and explore how different buyer types, including private equity firms and strategic acquirers, shape those choices. The conversation highlights the critical role of counsel in structuring incentives, like equity retention after sale, and in addressing common tax-related diligence challenges. Michael and Daniela stress the importance of engaging trusted advisors early to manage complexities and ensure alignment with long-term business objectives.
"It is never too late to start something new and to put your energy into something that you've loved your whole life, but you've never had time to focus on." Our hosts, Stephanie McCullough and Kevin Gaines, explore the strategic path to entrepreneurship in midlife with the Corporate Escape Sherpa herself, Tabatha Jones! After 30 years in corporate tech leadership, Tabatha made her leap at age 50 and now guides women through building profitable businesses before they leave their steady paychecks behind. "If it's not on your calendar, if it's not something you are focused on doing, it just becomes a someday, which becomes a never, which becomes regret." Tabatha's approach challenges the typical entrepreneurial narrative. Rather than dramatic leaps of faith, she advocates for methodical preparation while your corporate job finances your dream. She saved three years of expenses before leaving, far beyond the typical 6-12 months, and systematically eliminated debt, paid off her house, and even installed solar panels to reduce future living costs. Her "Freedom Framework" starts with the crucial question of "why", and she insists on going at least five layers deep. "When you stay at that surface level why... it's not enough to keep you going," Tabatha explains. From there, entrepreneurs identify their "what" (skills and gifts), "who" (ideal clients), and finally "how" (the business model). In that order! Chances are, you need a financial reality check as a prerequisite to creating your freedom plan. Tabatha has clients highlight every expense on their credit card statements, hunting for "money leaks" like forgotten subscriptions. One client discovered three gym memberships she'd forgotten about. Another realized her pricing meant she'd need 100 clients monthly just to break even! Most powerfully, Tabatha reminds us that midlife career changes require different strategies than younger transitions. While thirty-somethings can "dip their toe" in entrepreneurship and return to corporate easily, the job search for midlifers now takes 8-12 months. Building your business foundation while employed isn't just smart. It's essential! Today I'm sitting down for an honest reflection about something I've been moving through lately—change, identity, and what it really means to feel like we matter. As I've transitioned away from professional mountain biking being the center of my identity, I've been exploring how to define value beyond performance, productivity, or outside validation. It's been a humbling and deeply human process, one that I know so many of us can relate to.In this episode, I share some personal stories, research on well-being and mattering, and practical tools to help you strengthen your sense of connection and self-worth. We'll talk about how belonging shapes our mental health, why asking for help takes real courage, and how to reconnect with the parts of yourself that don't depend on achievement. If you've ever questioned your worth, struggled through a life transition, or wondered where you fit, this conversation is for you. Let's grow through it together.LINKS:- Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents by Lindsay Gibson- The Power of Mattering by Zach Mercurio- Subscribe to the newsletter --------------The Grow the Good Podcast is produced by Palm Tree Pod Co.

Today, on Notable Leaders' Radio, I speak with Tony Crescenzo, CEO of Intelligent Waves & Founder of Peak Neuro, LLC. He highlights his compelling journey from a resilient upbringing and military service to pioneering leadership insights and transformative healing with brain-training technology. In today's episode, we discuss: Remember the importance of "always do the right thing." Tony's grandfather's timeless advice served as his moral compass, guiding him through every personal and business decision. He discovered that by valuing integrity, you foster trust and build a strong, lasting reputation. See adversity as an opportunity to grow and learn. Tony's time in the military, especially the hurdles he faced as his military career came to a close, reminds us how much reputation truly matters. Welcome setbacks as moments to build character and become someone others truly respect and trust. To ease conflicts, try to understand the root of fear rather than just anger. Through his journey with anger, he learned that anger is really fear turned upside down. Embracing this awareness enabled him to transition from fear/anger to compassion and a deeper understanding of himself and others in times of challenge. Consider responding to anger with empathy—it can be a beautiful way to strengthen both your work and personal relationships. Prioritize your sleep and mental health with effective strategies. For instance, Tony saw wonderful improvements in his sleep, memory, and mood by using brainwave entrainment. Taking some proactive steps to care for yourself—such as getting good rest and keeping your mind clear—can truly make a significant difference in your happiness and productivity. Adopt the idea of "generals eat last" as your leadership guiding principle. As Tony beautifully shared, inspiring leaders always put their teams first, creating a warm environment full of trust and stability. When you focus on serving and supporting others, it gently builds loyalty and can significantly lift your team's performance. Life is a series of transitions from one thing to the next, and this year marks a transition for Des with the move from elite marathoning to her next chapter. This episode is about just that and her documentary titled "The Next Chapter," where she talks about the timing and reasons behind this transition for her. If you haven't checked out the documentary already, then do so here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LuPVzH3HN8I. It's a must-watch that will have you wiping your eyes. Kara shares the moment with Des as she relates back to her own transition from elite marathoning. This episode, however, is not all tears. There are plenty of laughs too, as with any conversation between these two. They also talk about signing and getting autographs, hugs from Taylor Swift, first pitches, Kara's new tattoo, hiding purchases from your partner/spouse, food delivery, and some very fast times on the trails at Tunnel Hill. Plus, you get an update on Kara's running and her dystonia. Though running news was light this week, this conversation has so much good stuff in it. As always, they finish with an uplifting Top 5 sponsored by Lever Movement. For 15% off on your Lever system, use code NOBODYASKEDUS at levermovement.com.

Transitions happen all day long—moving from playtime to circle time, heading to lunch, or wrapping up to go home. For many autistic children, these changes can feel overwhelming, confusing, or even distressing. But with the right understanding and tools, we can make transitions smoother and more predictable. In this episode, I'm diving into why transitions can be hard for autistic kids and sharing practical, compassionate strategies to support them. You'll learn how to ease anxiety, build predictability, and create routines that work for both you and your students or child. Whether you're an educator, therapist, or parent, this episode will help you see transitions through an autistic lens—and give you ideas you can use right away to make them more successful. Takeaways: Predictable routines help autistic children feel safe and secure. Transitions can cause anxiety due to uncertainty or sensory overwhelm. Executive functioning differences make shifting attention harder. Emotional attachments to activities can make ending them distressing. Monotropism explains deep focus—and how it can be both a challenge and a strength. Visual schedules and countdown tools (like a star chart or all-done bucket) create structure and comfort. Empathy, validation, and preparation go a long way. Video modeling can make transitions more concrete and successful.

This special installment of the Nomadic Diaries podcast dives deep into the subject of belonging as it relates to nomads, expatriates, third culture kids (TCKs), and cross-cultural kids (CCKs).Host Doreen Cumberford and co-host Megan Norton-Newbanks are joined by Author and Coach, Carolyn Grant to discuss the emotional geography of transitions, the process of resettling, and the personal and community-wide strategies for fostering a true sense of belonging.Key Topics Discussed:Transitions vs. Change:Carolyn provides a powerful framework distinguishing external changes (like moving countries) from internal transitions (the psychological adaptation). She likens transition to a bridge with several emotional "markers"—from feeling settled, through phases of chaos and exhaustion, to finally feeling a sense of belonging in a new place.Personal Stories & Analogies:Carolyn shares her own experience as an "accidental immigrant," highlighting the hidden losses only noticed years later. She uses evocative metaphors like "the ear of the hippo" to express the way deep emotions and losses are often beneath the surface.Normalizing Transition:Through discovering the work of William Bridges and David Pollock, Carolyn and Megan emphasize how helpful it is to realize these feelings are normal -not a sign of personal failure or lack, but a universal part of the expat and nomadic experience.In-Person vs. Online Belonging:The group discusses the richness of face-to-face empathy and connection versus the limitations (but still the value) of online communities, particularly during the COVID pandemic.Inclusive Framework for TCKs/CCKs & Hidden Immigrants:The podcast explores identity beyond nationality and ethnicity, including stories from adoption and cross-cultural upbringing—how difference is not always visible or acknowledged.Tools and Strategies for Rebuilding Belonging:Grieve the Losses: Name and process what you're leaving behind.Initiate Connections: Seek out groups, mentors, faith communities, and activities.Embrace Fitting In vs. Belonging: Understand that true belonging takes time and is deeper than superficial assimilation.Faith & Personal Resilience: Both faith and resilience are described as anchors during times of transition and disruption.Find Carolyn at:https://facebook.com/carolyngrantwww.navigatetransition.comhttps://instagram.com/navigatetransitionSupport the showHome is Where Your Story Crosses Borders! We aim to inspire expat solutions, by helping you navigate global living with ease and grace.

What is up, Simplifiers? I'm so excited you're here. In today's episode of the Maximized Minimalist Podcast, we dive into one of those uncharted territories that doesn't always come up when we're talking about decluttering our homes: the money side of our life-seasons. Because listen—moving houses, starting school, kids growing up, sending them off, career shifts… these aren't just about stuff. They shake up our finances, our routines, our mental load, and yes, our homes. I brought on my two AMAZING guests — finance strategists and self-proclaimed "budget besties," Vanessa and Shana (yes, alliteration and all the good vibes) — to unpack how transitions impact money, how you can build guardrails (just like you do with your home), and how you can walk into the next season with more peace, presence, and joy instead of overwhelm and guilt. Whether you're prepping for a move, entering a new parent phase, supporting teens, or just feeling the mental load of "what's next?" — this episode is for you. We'll meet you where you are and give you the tools to create financial clarity and calm.
What are the key elements to a successful energy transition project where you live?

A Parenting Resource for Children’s Behavior and Mental Health
Parenting a child who melts down over homework or seemingly simple tasks can feel overwhelming and exhausting. You're not imagining it—the frustration, tears, and chaos aren't bad behavior. It's a dysregulated brain struggling to access its control center. In this episode, let me explain why dysregulated kids can't use their executive function, what that means for daily life, and practical strategies to help your child regain focus, complete tasks, and strengthen their executive functioning skills. Why does my child melt down after school? Many parents notice that after a long day, their child becomes irritable or shuts down at homework time. This isn't defiance—it's a dysregulated brain that's gone offline. When stress builds, it hijacks the prefrontal cortex, the control center for planning, organization, and impulse control. Your child simply can't access their executive functions or working memory until their nervous system settles. What's happening:Stress or sensory overload disrupts brain functions.Transitions and overstimulation lead to poor executive functioning—especially in kids with ADHD or anxiety.Their brain shifts from learning to survival mode. What helps:Co-regulate first. Your calm presence signals safety.Once calm, executive functioning skills like focus, planning, and task completion return.Let's calm the brain first—because that's when real learning begins.Download the Executive Functioning Toolkit — packed with science-backed strategies you can start using today to reduce stress and improve focus. How can I help my child focus when they can't control their emotions? When emotions flood in, logic and problem-solving shut down. This is common in children with ADHD, learning disabilities, or high emotional sensitivity.Regulate first: Deep breaths, movement, or sensory grounding can reset the brain.Break tasks into small, manageable steps to avoid overwhelming a child with poor executive functioning.Use internal self-talk modeling: Narrate your planning out loud to teach cognitive strategies like task initiation and sustained attention.

In this Huberman Lab Essentials episode, my guest is Dr. David Sinclair, PhD, a professor of genetics at Harvard Medical School and a leading expert on the biology of aging. We discuss the cellular and molecular mechanisms of aging—and how specific behaviors, such as fasting, regular exercise and NAD⁺-boosting compounds like NMN, can activate the body's natural longevity pathways. This discussion highlights how lifestyle choices profoundly influence the aging process and may even slow or reverse key aspects of biological aging. Read the episode show notes at hubermanlab.com.
