Our lives are marked by our priorities, so what we do first communicates something so significant in our lives. The first four words of the Bible, found in Genesis 1:1, say, “In the beginning God…” These words should be our life's motto as they communicate that God came, and should come, before everything else. In this series, we explore how to put God first in prayer, and how to make prayer a priority in our lives.

As we begin 2026, let's throw off everything that hinders us from all that God has for us by surrendering our lives fully to Him. While many face the year discouraged, Scripture reminds us that in Christ we are new creations with real hope and potential for change. But often our struggle is an “image issue”—favoring our way over God's—and God urges us to realign with His design. By surrendering control, embracing the Holy Spirit's freedom, and reflecting Christ's image, we can experience true transformation and enter a year of God's life and freedom, reflecting His glory to the world around us.

2026 can be a fresh start if we are willing to close the door on yesterday and open the door to tomorrow. This past year may have had disappointments or hurts, but God can use it all, and 2026 can be full of healing and purpose if we'll lean into His leading. Using the story of Joshua leading the Israelites into the promised land found in Joshua 1:2-9 (NLT), we can see how to move forward in confidence, knowing that the time has come for us to take a step. God wants to do something new in us this year, and He will make the way!
