We are fashion lovers here at Invisible Thread but unfortunately fashion is a major contributor to waste, pollution, and the overall well being of our planet. Fashion is the second-largest consumer of water worldwide, fashion production makes up 10% of humanity's carbon emissions, and 85% of textiles end up in landfills. Sadly, these scary statistics are just the tip of the iceberg. Not only did we get to discuss fashion's impact on our beautiful planet but also ways in which we can improve our shopping and styling habits to be more ethically and sustainabilty conscious with our guest Sonia Kessler. Sonia is a stylist at Moda Operandi who styles within the framework of sustainability. She offers tips and tricks on how to make our closet as sustainable as possible and chats about some of her favorite brands. Sustainability is something that the fashion community needs to take seriously, not only this month because it is Earth Day on the 22, but year round. During an unsettling time in the world, as war and chaos erupts in Ukraine, it feels insensitive to be talking about the fashion and fashion month. Many designers made revisions to their designs and music choices amongst the recent news and many considered cancelling their shows all together. But as Demna from Balenciaga put it, to cancel the show “would mean giving in, surrendering to the evil” so the show must go on. We hope that listening to this podcast and watching the many shows during fashion month has served as a sense of escapism and hope for humanity. In this episode, we discuss how the war in Ukraine is affecting the fashion industry, New York fashion week, and fashion's presence within the metaverse (and NFTs). From humble beginnings in Durham, North Carolina to walking the halls at American Vogue, André Leon Talley paved an unbelievable life and career for himself doing what he loved most, talking about fashion. He is described by friends and colleagues as being larger than life and an expert fashion historian who had an opinion on everything. Recording this episode was such a joy because everything that André did, he exuted his obsession with his love for fashion. In this episode we discuss his internship under Diana Vreeland, his attributions he made during his almost decade long stay at Vogue(where he became the creative director), and the racial boundaries he broke to push the fashion world into a more accepting and inclusive space. We had the opportunity to interview Hayden Oney, a director of visual merchandising who has extensive corporate experience with many coveted brands such as BEBE, Tommy Hilfiger, and Kate Spade. He is currently the Director of Field Visual Merchandising in North America for Athleta! He shares his journey throughout the industry, the ins and outs of the visual merchandising process, and tips for anyone looking to get into the field. Although it seems as if a new fashion collaboration gets announced everyday, the Yeezy Gap collaboration with Balenciaga, officially titled “Yeezy Gap Engineered by Balenciaga”, feels completely different. It is unique in that it is actually a 3 way partnership(Kanye, Gap, & Balenciaga) and never before has such a high end fashion house such as Balenciaga worked intimately with a fashion brand located on the complete opposite side of the fashion spectrum. HOW, WHAT, & WHY were the first of many questions Pearlito and I began asking each other when it was formally announced in early November 2021 that Daniel Lee was leaving Bottega Veneta. We couldn't believe what we were reading and the investigation continues as to what really occurred between Lee and the fashion house(please DM us if you have any info). In this episode, we of course discuss the possibilities of Lee's firing but also fan girl out on Lee's incredible contributions to Bottega Veneta in only 3 years. Being a huge fan of Lee and Bottega, we are devastated that the two parties couldn't work it out but are excited to see what Daniel's successor, Matthieu Blazy, will debut very soon(in February)

Virgil Abloh's untimely death in November 2021 sent shock waves throughout the world. Even a few months later, it still hard to comprehend that he is no longer Djing and designing at the peak of his career. This week we pay homage to Virgil by doing a deep dive into: his early career, his synergetic relationship with Kanye West, the origins of Off-white, his memorable collections at LV, and his everlasting legacy. This examination into Virgil's life gave Pearlito and I an ever deeper appreciation for all that Virgil has done for the fashion industry and our hearts go out to his friends, family, and the house of Louis Vuitton.
