You may have become so used to them that you no longer notice, but snaking through downtown Indianapolis' northwest quadrant are the remains of a revolutionary public transit system that transported riders on elevated tracks 30-feet high. It was called the People Mover, developed for $44 million by Clarian Health Partners, the hospital system now known as Indiana University Health. From its launch in 2003 to 2019, it recorded roughly 6 million rider trips on a 1.4-mile track running between Methodist Hospital, University Hospital and Riley Hospital for Children. The People Mover had the cooperation of city officials, who allowed the track to use public right of way along Senate Avenue, West 11th Street and University Boulevard. And the People Mover was filled with promise, as some predicted it could be expanded to a larger public transit system that would include Indianapolis International Airport. But tram came to screeching halt in 2019, when IU Health said it would begin offering shuttle buses instead and expected to save about $40 million over 10 years. That also was about the time IU Health began planning a massive facility consolidation and modernization project downtown. IBJ reporter Daniel Lee has a personal connection to the People Mover and recently began looking into what remains of the twin-track system and whether IU Health has any plans to resurrect it. In this week's edition of the IBJ Podcast, Lee also gauges support for a proposal that would transform the infrastructure into an elevated trail celebrating the heritage of Black communities on downtown's northwest side.
In the early hours of Friday, April 25, Indiana legislators passed a $46.2 billion budget for state expenses over the next two years—specifically, from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2027. Legislators knew going in that state revenue to fund the budget would be tight, and they got a nasty revenue forecast with about a week to go in the session. The last week of a budget-writing session is usually pretty hectic, and this one had plenty of surprises as lawmakers tried to find ways to generate more tax revenue while simultaneously reducing funding for agencies and departments. Fledgling Gov. Mike Braun jumped headfirst into his first legislative session and made progress on his campaign promise of providing property tax relief. The Republican-led General Assembly also passed legislation aimed at lowering health care costs for Hoosiers with an approach that focused on hospitals. In both of those cases, of course, the bills passed were the product of much debate, lobbying, negotiation and compromise. Lawmakers also entered the session knowing that reforms would be proposed for the Indiana Economic Development Corp., the state agency charged with helping attract businesses to Indiana and helping businesses currently in the state grow. Its fate wasn't entirely decided until very late in the session. To take stock of the latest budget-writing session and how it will affect Hoosiers, we've invited a panel of reporters who covered some or all of the General Assembly to share their insights on fiscal issues and a few surprises. From the Indianapolis Business Journal, we have Cate Charron and Daniel Lee. And they're joined by Casey Smith of Indiana Capital Chronicle.

With an emissions trading system, the policy involves setting a total cap or limit on carbon emissions, which makes companies switch to low-emission or renewable energy sources. In contrast, a carbon tax establishes a price directly on carbon emissions so that companies are charged a certain amount for every tonne of emissions produced. While some countries have adopted both an ETS and a carbon tax, other countries have chosen to adopt one policy only. But, the question is - which policy can more effectively reduce carbon emissions? On this episode of Eco Money, Daniel Lee, Associate Professor of Practice at the Nanyang Business School and Director of the Carbon Markets Academy at NTU’s College of Business shares his insights. In this episode, we welcome Daniel Lee Barnett from Bridgwater, Somerset, UK. At just 15 years of age, Daniel is making waves in the Bigfoot community. Daniel is one of the youngest and most exciting cryptozoologists in the space. Daniel shares how he began researching the elusive Bigfoot at the age of 13 in the British countryside. Not long into his research, Daniel made a huge discovery in a local forest near his home. Whilst walking in the forest with his grandmother, looking for evidence of big cats, they stumbled on a large footprint that resembles the famous Sasquatch. After collecting DNA (eDNA), Daniel contacted a number of different laboratories for testing. The DNA results that came back from one lab in Portugal could possibly change the Bigfoot conversation not only in the UK but around the world. It seems not only did Daniel discover a strange footprint, but the DNA in the print contains that of an ancient ape, DNA that humans, as we know, do not carry today. Is this proof of a giant ape-like creature living in the UK? Freaky Merch! We are super excited to announce that you can now purchase Let's Get Freaky merch! Podcast listeners might remember about three months ago when regular guest Pete the Planner predicted that President Donald Trump's plans for tariffs could have a pronounced effect on some elements of Indiana's economy. Trump wasted little time once his second term began last month, imposing or thratening to impose a barrage of tariffs on many of America's trading partners—and in particular Canada, Mexico and China, who are among Indiana's top six importers of goods. For example, on Feb. 1, Trump said he would implement a 25% additional tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico and a 10% additional tarif on imports from China. On Feb. 3, he agreed to a 30-day pause on tariffs against Mexico and Canada. On Feb. 9, Trump said he would impose 25% tariffs on all steel and aluminum imports. Those tariffs aren't set to go into effect until March 12. However, as IBJ has learned from Indiana companies in the last several weeks, simply the threat of tariffs against a trading partner can be disruptive for American companies. All of IBJ's reporters have been working on stories about tariffs, but we left the big picture to the newest addition to our reporting bullpen—someone who is uniquely qualified to investigate the interplay of tariffs and manufacturing. You might already be familiar with Daniel Lee, a longtime Indiana business journalist who also has significant experience in the state's manufacturing sector. He's making his debut on the IBJ Podcast this week to first give us a broad-based assessment of the risks posed by tariffs and then provide some specific examples of companies dealing with vulnerability to the effects of tariffs. That includes one major firm that largely has been able to inoculate itself against tariffs on important goods.

Daniel Lee is the academic dean for the Center for Asian American Theology and Ministry at Fuller Theological Seminary and author of Doing Asian American Theology.Daniel Lee discusses the fact that each of us does theology from a particular persepective. Recognizing our own "particularities" makes us far better leaders. Why? Because the more we are aware of our own cultural particularities, the more we become competent as leaders in regard to one another's cultural particularities.THIS EPISODE'S HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE:Daniel Lee discusses the idea of God transcending divisive issues and the theological basis for God's perception of people.Daniel Lee initially saw his Korean heritage as baggage and tried to shed his cultural identity for a more generic evangelical perspective, but later realized the importance of embracing his Asian American identity in relation to his faith and theology.Initially resistant to being an Asian American theologian, Daniel Lee eventually embraced the need to articulate and address the significance of his cultural identity in his theological work.Daniel Lee points out that everyone has their own perspective and that when some perspectives become normalized, others are seen as abnormal. This issue exists in society and churches.Lee highlights the absence of modern-day race in the Bible and emphasizes the interaction between God and individuals, suggesting God's unique interaction with each person.Daniel Lee compares Asian American theology to the witness of God found in the gospels, emphasizing that theology is contextual and filtered through human perspective. It is important to recognize theology from an Asian American perspective and to witness to the one God collectively, while acknowledging that different perspectives yield a robust understanding of God.Ministry leaders need to move beyond crude stereotypes depicted in pop culture and gain a deeper understanding of colonial history and community-specific challenges. It is so important to gain more vocabulary and knowledge about different communities. We also need humility and adaptiveness when interacting with individuals and communities. Both Daniel Lee and Markus Watson talk about the importance of discerning and joining in with what God is doing within communities. It is important to understand particularity in theology, as well as apply ministry in specific and precise ways rather than using a generic approach.RELEVANT RESOURCES AND LINKS:Daniel Lee:Center for Asian American Theology and MinistryBooks mentioned:Doing Asian American Theology, by Daniel LeeDoing Local Theology, by Clemens SedmakChurch Leadership InstituteRelated Episodes:Episode 173: The Art of Interpreting Culture, with Justin BaileyEpisode 167: Called to Each Other, with Claude AlexanderEpisode 149: Ministry Leadership in a Racialized Society, with David SwansonEpisode 143: How the Church Can Respond to Immigration, with Karen GGet Becoming Leaders of Shalom for free HERE.Did you know Spiritual Life and Leadership has been named the #1 Spiritual Leadership Podcast by the Feedspot Podcasters Database? On February 24th, 1986, police in Talladega, Alabama forced their way inside the home of 24-year-old mother and student Sherri Weathers. When she had not shown up for classes in over a week, police were sent to do a wellness check. And soon the reason for her absence became very clear. Sherri and her two young children had been strangled to death, and their killer had piled them on top of each other in the shape of a cross. The killer was a 31-year-old artist and seasoned criminal, and his macabre masterpiece was far from complete. Two more bodies were discovered, and the killer had slipped away without a trace. With no clue as to where he went, police began the long and grueling search to find him, before he struck again. This episode is sponsored by: Badlands - listen on all major podcast apps! Join me as I chat live with Daniel Lee, Cryptid Researcher from the UK and Co-Host of Mythical Legends Podcast. Daniel is 14 years old and lives in the UK. His interest in Bigfoot came from the program we all know as Expedition Bigfoot. After watching the show, Daniel and his research partner decided to start an expedition in his own country called ‘expedition deer,' where they could see if they could find and observe beautiful deer within their countryside. They didn't have a supposed Bigfoot in this country so once they finished expedition Deer they then began to explore a few different Cryptid in this country. They were then looking for more information about Bigfoot and decided to start a Podcast using others' expertise so they could learn more about the unique and wonderful creatures out there. What started as an innocent project searching for wildlife has now started a passion to learn as much as they can about the unknown. Tim Blanks and Imran Amed discuss the highlights of the Autumn/Winter 2023 collections, including Daniel Lee's debut at Burberry, a transitional show at Gucci and Balenciaga's first brand statement in the wake of the advertising scandal. Background:This season was a “restart” for the global fashion industry, says Imran Amed, BoF's founder and editor-in-chief. The Autumn/Winter 2023 collections felt like the first return to normal after the pandemic — especially as Chinese fashion professionals were finally able to return to runway shows following extended Covid-related lockdowns that limited their international travel. A number of fashion's biggest brands used their shows as a way to start a new path. Burberry rolled out its first collection under its new creative director Daniel Lee, while Gucci unveiled its first collection since the departure of Alessandro Michele. At Balenciaga, Demna returned to a more subdued approach after the brand fell under intense criticism at the end of last year after it was accused of sexualising children in an ad campaign. But overall, fashion was still fixated on navigating all the uncertainty that prevails in the world, economic and otherwise. “If there's one thing we learned over the last few years — it's that anything can happen,” says Amed. “Everyone was preparing for the unknown, the uncertain.” Key Insights: Over the course of the season, designers, editors and enthusiasts were talking about how the purpose of fashion has evolved. “It wasn't just brands, it was individual designers who were processing what they're doing and what they need to do, because obviously the future looms very dark and very uncertain,” says Blanks.Gucci is in a transitional moment, with new creative director Sabato De Sarno's vision for the brand still to be unveiled. The brand's first post-Alessandro Michele show was all over the place, according to BoF editor-at-large Tim Blanks. “It was chaos, but enjoyable chaos,” says Blanks. Daniel Lee put a strong emphasis on Britishness for his Burberry debut. Meanwhile, Matthieu Blazy's Bottega Veneta show was a cohesive parade of clothes that doubled down on craft and storytelling, says Blanks. Diesel's Glenn Martins is solidifying himself as a designer to watch with his work in today's vernacular of denim and celebratory sexuality. “It's a mark of genius, what he manages to do with things that are really familiar — that alchemy of fashion,” says Blanks. Martins put a mountain of 200,000 condoms at the middle of his runway. In his first collection since the brand came under fire for its controversial advertisements, Demna — known for his ironic stunts — focused on the clothes, a nod to the label's founder Cristóbal Balenciaga. Additional Resources:Top 10 Shows of the Season: BoF's editors pick the top ten shows of the Autumn/Winter 2023 season. At Paris Fashion Week, Less Was More: In an age of clickbait fashion, it was acts of reduction that, paradoxically, stood out most, reports Angelo Flaccavento.Want more from BoF? The hacks are surely hacking. Holbrook Democrat selectman Daniel Lee and his wife ripped off their elderly landlords by citing COVID. They still owe money, and yet, Lee is running for re-election. But that's not the best part! The headliner at Lee's campaign party this evening is none other than the Massachusetts House Speaker. The corruption never ends.
