    The Prosperity Gospel in You

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 23, 2021 39:59

In this episode, we briefly talk about what we know the prosperity gospel to be, but then we dive deeper into the nuanced manifestations of that false gospel in our own lives. Much of Scripture implores us to grow in maturity beyond the elementary no-brainers by discerning between good and evil. We take the time in this episode to talk about how our own poor theology of suffering can reveal the areas where we've bought into various forms of the prosperity gospel. What does your relationship dynamic with God look like? Do you go to Him just for Him, seeking who He truly is? Or do you go to Him really for what you want from Him? In the simplest of ways, our entitlement often truthfully drives our prayers. How do you respond when God doesn't do what you want or He turns out to be different than what you were taught or desired?Let's have conversations that seek to purify the Bride and establish the Kingdom here and now.FOLLOW ME ON INSTA:https://www.instagram.com/piercewestfallFOLLOW ME ON TWITTER:https://twitter.com/piercewestfallSUBSCRIBE TO MY FRIEND SANCTIFIED PUNK:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmaBZZdz7-Ez8mAnpepIbngLEARN MORE ABOUT A JESUS MISSION:www.ajesusmission.org*Note our thoughts are not representative of A Jesus Mission as a whole. Missions and the lack thereof in the Church

Missions, outreach, evangelism, and ministry. What's the difference? In this episode, we talk about our cultural idea of missions. We go over the general way it's taught and majoritively lived out.If every person becomes a missionary when they receive the Gospel in full and become alive in Christ, then why doesn't this translate in our churches - either by way of teaching or by being actually lived out where it's been taught? Well, we have a Gospel-demonstration issue in America. We have a problem where we push Christian moralism over relationship with Christ. And now we're right back to programs over relationship ≠ life with Jesus.Missions has become an afterthought for most of us instead of a natural state of regenerate being. This is often the testimony we provide. When the non-believing world takes up the causes of the King as natural image-bearers, they are proven wholly authentic in their endeavors. Meanwhile, our 10% to the church and its 10% to "missions" reveals our impersonal approach to the call of ambassador for Christ. What is it we're bringing to the altar? Is it a sacrificial love? When to get picky in the church and when to hush up

Have you ever overheard or been a part of a conversation about what we don't like about church? Maybe you've also thought, "Hmmm. We're kind of funny."In this episode, we talk about how comfortable we are entertaining these Baskin Robbins type talks. While all of us generally acknowledge what matters to God and what doesn't, we still priorize, grumble, and get nitpicky over the very things we've already confessed don't matter to our Lord. We welcome consumer Christianity by the theology we live out. Shouldn't we be the people who understand best that God cares for the eternal and unseen? As this episode goes on, we ponder what it means to be gifted by God, we take the time to cover some foundational guidelines for when to get nitpicky, and we talk about how we can go about that without being divisive. If we are pushing sincerity to Scripture over methods, then we will achieve unity amidst diversity. This is incredibly foreign in our Christian culture. We're so used to these catered microcultures, that we automatically make generalized assumptions about one person as though they represent and are represented by the whole people group of that church.Because Scripture is our bias, let's value what Scripture values. This when we should get nitpicky. Come talk with us.FOLLOW ME ON INSTA:https://www.instagram.com/piercewestfallFOLLOW ME ON TWITTER:https://twitter.com/piercewestfallSUBSCRIBE TO MY FRIEND SANCTIFIED PUNK:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmaBZZdz7-Ez8mAnpepIbngLEARN MORE ABOUT A JESUS MISSION:www.ajesusmission.org*Note our thoughts are not representative of A Jesus Mission as a whole. In this episode, we close out our series on stewardship by focusing on time and relationships. If church as business is the lens from which we approach stewardship, then how does this affect the way we engage in relationships? What happens when we stop stewarding for church and start stewarding AS the Church? Join us as we dive deep into topics like building up smooth programs instead of investing in relationships; the funny meaning of "ministry" in the context of a people who never stop being called God's Church; the blessings from God we elevate to the point they actually cripple the relationships in the Body which they were intended to strengthen; and so much more.Ever wondered what discipleship looks like for us? We talk about that and what it looks like to redefine our humanity under Christ. After all, all things are permissable, but not all things are beneficial. We've recreated our own law out of ease and devote our time to that, but at the heart of it all, are we sacrificing relationship?FOLLOW ME ON INSTA:https://www.instagram.com/piercewestfallFOLLOW ME ON TWITTER:https://twitter.com/piercewestfallSUBSCRIBE TO MY FRIEND SANCTIFIED PUNK:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmaBZZdz7-Ez8mAnpepIbngLEARN MORE ABOUT A JESUS MISSION:www.ajesusmission.org*Note our thoughts are not representative of A Jesus Mission as a whole. Have you ever walked to a church building and wondered, "what's all this for?" Sure, they serve their purpose for our gathering, but we also spend nearly 25% of our church resources on properties that remain largely unused. In this episode from our series on stewardship, we talk about the church building as both our end goal and our measure for success. We challenge our listeners to critically think about their churches and be agents of change by starting or continuing this important discussion. This is not a plea to rid us of church buildings, but rather a much needed push for the church to take seriously what it means to steward well.FOLLOW ME ON INSTA:https://www.instagram.com/piercewestfallSUBSCRIBE ON YOUTUBE:https://www.youtube.com/c/PierceWestfallFOLLOW ME ON TWITTER:https://twitter.com/piercewestfallSUBSCRIBE TO MY FRIEND SANCTIFIED PUNK:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmaBZZdz7-Ez8mAnpepIbngLEARN MORE ABOUT A JESUS MISSION:www.ajesusmission.org*Note our thoughts are not representative of A Jesus Mission as a whole. While we outline the various focal points we'll cover, we also lay a solution-focused foundation of Scripture we can continually come back to.We talk about how we've heard and seen these biblical points applied, and we challenge these approaches after witnessing their consequences.Should we bring our best to the altar once a week, or are we living sacrifices? Should we be stewarding toward a singular, sacred place/experience at church, or are we the sacred Church built from living stones? We believe that operating our churches as businesses directly informs our perspective of stewardship, and this dictates how we practically live it out. "In essentials, unity. In non-essentials, liberty. In all things, love."  Many pastors have quoted this saying, and though it's not from the Bible, we've found it to have incredible depth. But is it more than just something we quote? In this fist part of a conversation about non-essential theology and Christian ethics, we attempt to begin sifting through some murky grey to find that black and white. Or maybe we discover that what we've made black and white can be incredibly complex. When we let the complex nuances of Scripture dictate the theological circles we're willing to fellowship with, or even talk with for that matter, the Enemy wins. This is not plea for universalism, but it is a plea for a family that gets along. It's time to value relationships more than we value being right.

Would Bible degrees exists if the Church eagerly lived out the mandate to disciple? In this episode, we weigh the value of a degree from a Christian university against discernment and leadership preparation through long-suffering relationship. We examine what our culture tells us to look for in a qualified person and how it tell us to find it.Then we contrast these standards and methods with what the Bible tells us God looks for and how He tells us to seek out the knowledge of these things. To tie it all in, we genuinely ponder how much of what we do in our greater American church culture is driven by business/money mindsets and where that prosperity gospel line actually fleshes out.FOLLOW ME ON INSTA:https://www.instagram.com/piercewestfallLEARN MORE ABOUT A JESUS MISSION:www.ajesusmission.org*Note our thoughts are not representative of A Jesus Mission as a whole.
