To follow Him is to walk in light, know God, and live. To reject Him is to remain in darkness and die in your sin.INTRODUCTIONCONTEXTSERMON OUTLINECONCLUSIONNOTESOUTLINESQUESTIONS TO CONSIDER DISCUSSION QUESTIONSMAIN REFERENCES USEDOpening prayer: Lord God, help us grow to be and do like Jesus, while abiding in him and leading others to do the same. INTRODUCTION"Have you ever tried going through an obstacle course blindfolded? The smallest obstacles become difficult obstructions. If we are not walking in the light of Christ, the obstacles that should not be a problem are great stumbling blocks to us. But when we have that light, we understand how to make our way through this dark world." -Hughes, p. 234Air Florida Flight ✈️ 90"Arland Williams and five others knew their situation was hopeless.Floating in the icy Potomac River, the six survivors of Air Florida Flight 90 knew there was no way to reach the shore just forty yards away. They could hear the rescuers trying to reach them, but each attempt to cross the icy waters failed. Just as they were giving up hope, they heard the sound of an approaching helicopter. A life ring fell into the hands of one of the survivors, and he was pulled to safety. Next it fell in Arland's hands. He could be saved. But before the helicopter could pull him up, he handed the life ring to someone else. The chopper could only hold two, so it turned toward the shore and sped away. Just a few minutes later it returned. Again the life ring fell into Arland's hands, and again he handed it to someone else. The third time he did the same. There would be no fourth opportunity. By the time the helicopter had returned, Arland had disappeared below the surface. In 2007 an article was written about Arland Williams's sacrifice and appeared in Men's Health magazine. After recounting Williams's story, the author of the article asks,Why would anyone put the lives of strangers ahead of his own?He couldn't even see the faces of the people he was saving, because they were on the opposite side of the wreckage, yet he made a sacrifice for them that their best friends might have refused. (McDougall, "The Hidden Cost of Heroism")The concepts of heroism and self-sacrifice puzzle the writer. Why would someone die for someone he didn't know? He tries to analyze it scientifically and concludes,Extreme heroism springs from something that no scientific theory can fully explain; it's an illogical impulse that flies in the face of biology, psychology, actuarial statistics, and basic common sense. (Ibid.)He even quotes Charles Darwin, who "couldn't figure out how to crowbar heroism into his survival-of-the-fittest theory" (ibid.). Darwin said,He who was ready to sacrifice his life, as many a savage has been, rather than betray his comrades, would often leave no offspring to inherit his noble nature. (Ibid.)After examining the story and different theories, the writer concludes that though the act was heroic, there would be no one to pass down the family name." To follow Him is to walk in light, know God, and live. To reject Him is to remain in darkness and die in your sin.Are You Living in the Light—or Just Near It?Illustration: “Lost in the Cave”A few years ago, a soccer team of twelve boys and their coach were trapped deep inside a cave in Thailand. Rising floodwaters had cut off their way out, and they were completely in the dark. One of the greatest challenges rescuers faced wasn't just the physical danger—it was the total absence of light. In complete darkness, there's no sense of direction, no way to move forward, no way to know what's safe or deadly. The first thing rescuers brought them wasn't food or even water—it was light. Only with light could they begin the journey toward life again. In John 8:12, Jesus says, “I am the light of the world.” Without Him, we are spiritually trapped—no direction, no hope. But with Him, we not only see clearly—we live.I. Jesus is the Light of the World (v. 12)Following Jesus means walking no longer in darkness. You receive the light of life—truth, clarity, and direction.Light is essential for spiritual life.Application:→ Walk in the light as He is in the light.→ Shine like stars in a dark and crooked world (Philippians 2:15).II. To Know Jesus is to Know God (v. 19)Jesus is one with the Father—there is no knowing God apart from Him.Religion without relationship with Jesus is still darkness.Application:→ Humble yourself and respond to God's call to know Him today.→ Don't settle for proximity to spiritual things—pursue Christ.III. Apart from Jesus, You Will Die in Your Sin(s) (vv. 21–24)Those who reject Jesus remain “of this world,” in rebellion. The consequence is not just spiritual wandering—it's spiritual death.Application:→ Believe that Jesus is who He says He is and will do what He promised.→ Without faith in Him, sin still owns you.IV. Follow Jesus the Way Jesus Followed the Father (vv. 25–30)Jesus lived sent—submissively, sacrificially, and obediently. He didn't act independently but responded to the Father in everything.Application:→ Follow Jesus in the same way: as a mission-minded, obedient light-bearer.→ You are now the light of the world on Jesus' behalf (Matthew 5:14–16).CONCLUSION 'Crazy Love'Francis Chan's mother died giving birth to him. The only affection he can remember receiving from his father lasted about thirty seconds when he was on the way to his stepmother's funeral aged nine. When he was twelve, his father also died. Francis cried, but also felt relieved. Francis is now a pastor. He and his wife, Lisa, have seven children. When his children were born, his own love for his children and his desire for their love was so strong that it opened his eyes to how much God desires and loves *us*. He said, ‘Through this experience, I came to understand that my desire for my children is only a faint echo of God's great love for me and for every person he made… I love my kids so much it hurts.' Calling his first book *Crazy Love*, he wrote, ‘The idea of Crazy Love has to do with our relationship with God. All my life I've heard people say, “God loves you.” It's probably the most insane statement you could make to say that the eternal Creator of this universe is in love with me. There is a response that ought to take place in believers, a crazy reaction to that love. Do you really understand what God has done for you? If so, why is your response so lukewarm?' The word ‘zeal' implies an *intense or passionate desire*. It can be misdirected, but as Paul writes, it is right to be zealous provided that the purpose is good (Galatians 4:18). Elsewhere he says, ‘Never be lacking in zeal' (Romans 12:11). Perhaps a good modern translation of the word ‘zeal' is ‘crazy love'.Bottom line: Jesus is the Light of the World. `To follow Him is to walk in light, know God, and live. To reject Him is to remain in darkness and die in your sin.Who do you trust?"All the time we each decide whom to trust. When we pick up medicine from the pharmacy, we trust our doctor who prescribed it and our pharmacist who prepared it. We also trust the company that developed it and the government that approved it, plus the people who trained the doctor and pharmacist and the many hands at the drug company who prepared and packaged it. When it comes to physical life, we trust our care to a lot of people. When it comes to your spiritual life, whom do you trust? Your authority is either yourself—what you think, how you feel, what you have experienced—or it's God and what he says. Do you really want to trust yourself with your eternal future? You are flesh. You didn't exist until thirty or fifty or eighty years ago. You can't keep yourself from getting sick or hurt. You cannot guarantee you will be alive tomorrow.Do you really think you're the best choice to be the ultimate authority in your life?" -CarterINVITATIONWhat about you?Peter puts it all in perspective in his first sermon:““Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.” When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”” Acts 2:36-39 NIVHow do we respond? Answer 2 questions:Take out a card or piece of paper right now. Write down the answer to these questions: What is God saying to me right now? What am I going to do about it? Write this down on a sheet of paper. What I hear you saying, Lord, is ___________________.[my name] is going to believe/do __________________________________________________ as a result. Finally, share this with your Home or Mission group this week when you gather as a testimony about what God is doing in your life. You don't have to get too specific to give him praise.Lord's Supper, 1 Cor 11:23-26 is good passage. Also, say something like, "Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again." (past, present, and future)PrayNOTESIsaiah 49:6 lightPsalm 27:1 light Exodus 14:19-20 lightMalachi 4:2 lightLuke 1:78-79 light Exodus 13:21–22Ephesians 5:8Matt 5:14; 13:43 Phil 2:15 stars in the skyNumbers 6:24-26 benedictionNumbers 9:15-22 cloud & FireJohn 3:14 lifted upIsaiah 43:11-13 "I am he"Imagine you're in a remote cabin deep in the woods. Night falls quickly, and darkness surrounds you. You fumble for a flashlight or a lantern, and there it is—sitting on the table, fully charged and ready. But instead of turning it on, you leave it sitting there. You try to find your way in the dark—bumping into furniture, stumbling over bags, even hurting yourself. You complain that it's too dark, that you can't see where you're going, that you're scared. And all the while… the light is right there.Jesus is the Light of the World. He's not a philosophy or an idea—He's a living Person who brings truth, clarity, and life. But you have to turn to Him. You have to walk in the light—not just be near it.Don't go home tonight bumping around in the dark when the Light has already come.Historical and Liturgical Background: Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot)Timing:John 7–8 takes place during or just after the Feast of Tabernacles, one of the three major Jewish pilgrimage festivals. It commemorated Israel's 40 years in the wilderness after the Exodus, when God provided water, food, and guidance. The Setting of John 8:12:Jesus says, “I am the light of the world,” likely in the Temple courts (v. 20 specifies “in the temple treasury,” which was in the Court of Women).John 8:28 video link https://youtu.be/CZSlHdEoz40?si=OD54C1Ch0BKCQKc6The Four Giant CandelabrasDuring the Feast of Tabernacles, Jewish tradition says that in the Court of Women, the priests lit four huge candelabras (sometimes described as 75 feet tall) every night:Each had four golden bowls at the top, with strong young priests climbing ladders to fill them with oil and light them. The light was so bright, Jewish writings say, that “there was not a courtyard in Jerusalem that did not reflect the light from the Temple.”This lighting ceremony celebrated God's presence—especially the pillar of fire that guided Israel through the wilderness (Exodus 13:21–22).OUTLINESee aboveQUESTIONS TO CONSIDERWhat do I want them to know? It's a marvelous night for a podcast, and this week we're heading Into The Mystic with Van Morrison's 1970 record Moondance! After an accidental first record, a hit single in Brown Eyed Girl, and a commercial flop in Astral Weeks, Moondance was Morrison's last-ditch comeback effort to avoid starvation. It ended up becoming a classic soft rock album and a hit with hippies, featuring classic-caliber songs like Crazy Love and a full horn section! We'll explore little Ivan's Irish upbringing, learn about Them, and figure out why he uses so many syllables. The Mixtaper is on a mission to bully* Van Moron... remember to always read your contracts and pay your parking meters.Keep Spinning at www.SpinItPod.com!Thanks for listening!0:00 Intro3:22 About Van Morrison10:05 About Moondance14:18 Awards & Accolades15:17 Fact Or Spin16:44 He Abandoned A Concert Mid-Show For A Parking Meter21:12 His Biggest Fan Is A Border Collie24:23 His Manager Nicknamed Him Van Moron28:00 Van Morrison Has Some Strange Songwriting Habits33:01 Album Art38:18 And It Stoned Me41:25 Moondance43:40 Crazy Love46:00 Caravan48:13 Into The Mystic51:28 Come Running52:53 These Dreams Of You54:31 Brand New Day55:53 Everyone58:13 Reading The Fine Print*1:00:59 Glad Tidings1:02:36 Final Spin Hosted on Acast. An ultimate bias (ult bias for short) refers to the one idol that is the fan's absolutely favorite - someone they admire the most, whether for their talent, personality, visuals, or overall impact. Christina & Elle review Her Private Life! Both of them LOVE this show and first watched it during the pandemic when they weren't full blown fan girls yet. BTS was the only group Elle was into up until that point (WILD, RIGHT????). Her Private Life stars Park Min-Young as Deok-Mi (Healer, What's Wrong with Secretary Kim?) and Kim Jae-Wook as Ryan Gold (Melo Movie, Crazy Love). Deok-Mi is an art curator who secretly runs a fan site for her ult bias and Ryan becomes the new director of that art museum. Deok-Mi is strong, passionate, and loves what she does at work and in her personal life. In this review, the ladies gush about their biases (JK & Wooyoung), how they relate to the female lead as a fan, and how they wish Ryan Gold was a real person. Christina & Elle gush about the leads and love how the drama has a little bit of everything. If you haven't seen this sweet drama, watch it because you won't regret it! Her Private Life is a 2019 drama available on Netflix. Tell them your thoughts about Her Private Life! …..If you're new to YA GIRL, we're so glad you're here!! Nothing else in Morrison's catalog sounds quite like this. You Van fans already know this... but in case you're just checking the guy's catalog out, be sure to make time for this gem. In this message, Pastor Angel explores the importance of loving God as the provider rather than just focusing on His provisions. He shares the struggle of receiving and giving gifts, using these experiences to illustrate a greater spiritual truth. Through the story of Abraham's willingness to sacrifice Isaac (Genesis 22), he highlights radical obedience and faith, explaining that true love for God comes from reverence for who He is, not just what He provides. Pastor Angel encourages gratitude for God's ultimate gift—Jesus—and reminds listeners that God's love is relentless and unconditional. True faith involves trusting God even when provision seems uncertain, valuing the relationship over the rewards.Topic: Find hope and faith | Develop a deep love for God | Faith that is strongMain scripture: 1 John 4:8; Genesis 22:1-14; Matthew 6:25-33; John 3:16; John 14:6; Philippians 4:19; Deuteronomy 8:10-18; Psalm 34:1Support the show ------------------------------------------WANT MORE?Say You Love Me 1: Building Healthy RelationshipsToxic 1: What are Toxic Thoughts? The best time to follow God is now. Today, we celebrate and praise God for what He's done in the past as well as pray for what God is going to do in the future. Pastor Jon Kragel will be sharing an update on our Crazy Love Project, sharing lots of encouraging testimonies from the people in the church, as well as preach from 2 Corinthians 5:13-6:2.
How does God's unparalleled strength and endless compassion redefine how we see Him and ourselves?Psalm 145I will exalt You, my God the King;I will praise Your name for ever and ever.Every day I will praise Youand extol Your name for ever and ever.Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; His greatness no one can fathom....In this powerful message, we're invited to explore the profound question: 'Who is like the Lord?' We're challenged to meditate on God's wonderful works, both in Scripture and in our own lives, as a pathway to deeper praise and understanding of His nature. Psalm 145 serves as our guide, revealing God's character through His deeds. We're reminded that God's grace and compassion are not just observations, but His very self-revelation. The story of the Prodigal Son is beautifully unpacked, illustrating God's limitless grace and compassion. This message encourages us to replace thoughts of shame and unworthiness with the truth of God's unconditional love, urging us to embrace His grace fully in our daily lives.Reflection Questions:1. Reflect on a time when you experienced God's powerful intervention. How did it impact your faith?2. Why is it important to recount the stories of God's work across different generations?3. How can the knowledge of God's unchanging nature motivate you in your everyday life?Further Reading:Psalm 78:1-7Deuteronomy 6:4-9Exodus 34:6-7"Crazy Love" by Francis ChanThank you for joining us. Sometime in the early 90s, a record store owner asked Weldon the question: "Have you heard Gruntruck?" And until recently, the answer was no. But the memory of this exchange leads us to this bonus episode, where we listen to "Crazy Love" by Seattle's Gruntruck and dismantle the semiotics of grunge. A little pain feels good!
In our season four premiere of Genesis The Podcast, we welcome New York Times bestselling author Leslie Morgan Steiner, who takes us on a deeply personal journey of understanding domestic violence. Leslie shares insights from her transformative 2012 TED Talk, debunking the myths and stereotypes that often surround victims of abuse. She reveals that abuse can affect anyone, regardless of their demographic, and stresses the importance of breaking down these harmful misconceptions to prevent victim-blaming.Leslie's compelling narrative continues as she recounts her own experience in an abusive relationship, illustrating how abusers can seem wonderful at times, making it incredibly challenging for victims to leave. She discusses the crucial role of research and supportive friendships in overcoming denial and ultimately making the difficult decision to escape for her safety. Leslie also touches on the significant impact of talking openly about abuse with children, stressing that they are much more resilient and perceptive than we often give them credit for. This conversation aims to shatter the silence that perpetuates cycles of violence and to offer hope and guidance for those in similar situations.
In this session, Pastor Ken unraveled the true heart of God's character. We delved deeply into the attributes of God because God wants to be seen for who He truly is and if you don't look at the full picture, you'll miss God. We also learned that by looking at ourselves, we can tell the type of Creator that made us. Listen and be adequately informed of the true attributes of God.
In the second session, PK talked about places in scripture where people abused the power God conferred on them. After that, he expatiated determinism and free will. To bring the session to a close, he addressed the seeming contradictions to the goodness of God in the scripture.
In the last session, we learned that it is essential to see who God is through the right lenses. You can know the invisible God by looking at the visible Christ. Christ did not just die for your sins, He came to present the right representation of the Father and to correct as well as clarify the world's misconceptions about God. In this session, your convictions will be solidified and you will be convinced beyond reasonable doubt that God is good.

Pastor Ryan Mullins of Selah Memphis talks about Beekeeping and the business he and wife Anne created, “The Bearded Bee-Keeper”. Pastor Ryan also shares his heart about The Church Intensive by Crazy Love, a ministry that walks with pastors and leaders through the process of “rethinking the church.”
Energy is such a profound thing. It's something that's both silent and unspoken but also always present and within our ability to control. It's everyone's duty to be mindful of that to ensure that what we're sharing is...good and uplifting. I keep that in mind when deciding what to share with you. I've also wanted the energy of these mixes to walk a fine line; perfect for both 2AM and 2PM. Obviously what we're all doing at those two different times are very different things. I use my own real world experiences to guide me on the music choices here. And what I've found is that the songs you'll hear here are beautiful pieces to have in the background during the day to (subconsciously) affect our day and also have in the forefront during the night to (consciously) drive the fun. I hope that the energy, the vibes and the messages you hear on this mix lift you up and set you free. I have no shortage of favorites on this set. I set the set off with the Kygo produced "Love Me Now Or Lose Me Later" -- a truly powerful heart-tugger. From there I mix into "One Day" by Dutch emo-pop band Haevn. They are truly one of my favorite bands ever. Their sound is rich, authentic and emotionally powerful. They're not really known here in the Americas so I'm really proud and fortunate to share them with you. Find them and stream them. They're incredible. Otherwise, I've got 17 songs mixed here and have managed to find 5 incredible remakes for the set: Chasing Cars (#5), You're Not Alone (#10), Sweet Disposition (#12), With Or Without You (#14) and Wonderful Life (#15). It's so hard to find remakes that are tastefully done and keep the spirit of the original. So I feel happy to have found these. Pay special attention to the remake of With Or Without You by U2. Initially I assumed this would be typically not great. How pleasantly surprise I was to find this remake really amazing. It's remixed by organic house master DSF. In closing the set I chose the gorgeous "Crazy Love" by Above & Beyond featuring vocals by none other than Zoe Johnston. By the time you reach the end of the set the *energy" will have quietly risen from chill and peaceful to powerfully melodic and progressive. Hopefully, if I've done my job right, you'll not even notice the energy quietly rising to crescendo. As always....this set was mixed with every ounce of love I've got to give. In 2009, millionaire Ben Novack was murdered in Rye Brook, NY. The son of parents who once owned the famed Miami hotspot, the Fontainebleau Hotel, and a business mogul in his own right, he was described by friends as a brat with a lot of enemies. Police suspected his wife Narcy, but did not have enough evidence to charge her. Then, they received a letter in Spanish, which stated that Narcy Novack and her brother Cristobal Veliz were responsible for the crime. “48 Hours" correspondent Troy Roberts reports.
