What is Jesus doing? Mark 3:20–35 prepares us for the hearing of God's Word, publicly read, in the holy assembly on the coming Lord's Day. In these sixteen verses of Holy Scripture, the Holy Spirit teaches us that Jesus is destroying the works of the devil, forgiving sin, and gathering a family. The devotional centers on Jesus's confrontation with accusations of demonic possession, exposing the irrationality of attributing His divine power to Satan. It emphasizes that while all sins, including blasphemy, can be forgiven, rejecting the Holy Spirit's testimony to Christ's divine mission results in eternal condemnation, underscoring the necessity of faith in Christ as God's self-sacrificial love made manifest. Jesus is gathering to Himself a spiritual family redeemed from sin and Satan's dominion. The message calls believers to respond in faith, embracing Christ's inexplicable love, and living in alignment with His Father's will as evidence of belonging to His eternal family. Ultimately, the devotional presents the gospel as both a divine rescue from spiritual bondage and a transformative invitation into God's family, rooted in grace and sustained by faith.

Here are six stories of people who gave their all for God. Could you live like they did? At the end of your life, what will the story be that is written about you?

This episode opens with Candace welcoming pastor Francis Chan for the first of a six-week series built around his book Beloved and the theme of God's love. The two share history going back to Candace's teenage years at Cornerstone Church, and that context shapes the conversation from the start. Francis has written several books, including Crazy Love, and Beloved is the anchor for everything this season covers. A lot of this episode focuses on Francis's early life. His mother died when he was born, his father gave him up, and he was raised by his grandmother in Hong Kong before being returned to his dad at age five. Francis remembers arriving in a home where he felt like an interruption, not speaking English, with older siblings who didn't know what to do with him. His stepmother died in a car accident when he was seven, and his father died when he was twelve. Francis connects that history directly to the reason he wrote Beloved: accepting a holy, sovereign, judging God came naturally to him, but believing that God personally loved him was something else entirely. Candace comes to the conversation from a different starting point. Growing up with a loving earthly father, she says she absorbed God's love almost by default and never stopped to think too deeply about whether it was real or not. She reflects that believing something and actually sitting inside it aren't the same thing. Francis responds that this is its own kind of distance, and that he sometimes tells his own children he worries they'll miss out on the particular dependence on God that came from having no one else to rely on. The episode closes with a listener theology question from Vicky about Moses interceding when God threatens to destroy the Israelites. Vicky asks how a sovereign God who knows everything can be genuinely angry about things He already knew would happen, and whether Moses actually changed the outcome. Francis points to Isaiah 55, acknowledges the tension honestly, and draws out what the passage teaches about prayer, intercession, and how scripture uses narrative to communicate what neat answers alone can't. Are you scared or fearful of surrendering all the way to Him? I think you will find it is more fearful to play it safe than to pay the cost and give your all to HIM. It's a little dangerous but super rewarding in many ways! 

Who is the greatest lover? You? Your bride? Someone else? Maybe it is God. And if so, we should pay great attention.

We pray a lot when we are in trouble. We pray a lot to ask for things. We pray a lot when it is the last thing we can do. Maybe we stop praying for a bit and just wonder at the magnitude of God.

How long do you have? Will you make it through this podcast? Will you make it to tomorrow? What about next week? Maybe we should look at life a little differently. Redeeming the time.

Amadou and Mariam, the iconic musical duo from Mali, performed together for more than four decades until the passing of Amadou in April. Their ninth and final album together, "L'Amour à la Folie" or "Crazy Love" in English, has just dropped.
