INTRODUCTION After a year that saw radical and rapid change, there is a need for a new kind of leader, the kind of leader that can lead with empathy and compassion, can lead a team as a change master, and manage competing priorities with grace. Welcome, The Courageous Leader! This season of the Overwhelm To Owning It show, will be going through the framework of the Courageous Leader and the skills leaders will need in 2021 and for the future of leadership. Show Objectives - The Why Todays episode is looking at the cycle teams go through either when being newly formed, or when there's a change in staff such as a new person joining the team, or someone leaving the team. Each time there's a staffing change, teams go through this cycle. Some teams navigate this better than others.   Key Issues - Owner Perspective: It's no surprise that leaders are constantly faced with decision overload, being reactive rather than responsive. One of the simplest (not necessarily easy) things a leader can do, is actually step back and work ON the business, or ON their leadership for their team. When a new staff member joins a team, it's often because there's been a period of running under resourced. Usually as a business leader, we're focused on getting the new person ‘up to speed' we don't always stop to look at what impact this could have on the existing team.  What You Need to Know - The What Every team will go through each stage of this cycle. Some will move through it more quickly than others.  Forming - This is the establishment phase, you're coming together as a team. Normally enthusiasm is high, there's excitement and motivation to get started Storming - This is when the chincks start to show through the armour. We start noticing a bit of friction and the rose coloured glasses are off.  Norming - Once through the storming stage, team members are learning more about each other, their roles and teams begin to settle into their ‘normal' way of working.  Performing - After everyone has established their ‘place' within the team, this is when results start to happen. Team members are feeling comfortable in their role and are ready to go that next level.  What You Need to Do - The How How to identify which phase your team is in How to accelerate or advance your team through the ‘storm' and get to ‘performing'.  Building healthy discussions Getting on top of conflict early.  To hear previous episodes of the Overwhelm to Owning it show on Apple podcast, on Spotify   on Google Podcast Don't forget to hit SUBSCRIBE Written by Ally Nitschke Leadership Expert and Courageous Conversations Specialist, Speaker.
