The Story of Foursquare: Dennis Crowley

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 1, 2019 66:03

Over the last 20 years, Dennis has focused on basically one thing: improve the ways people move through and interact with cities. Moving to New York in 1998, he was laid off in the dotcom bubble, he learned how to code himself, and over the next few years he kept adapting his ideas to the bleeding edge of tech. Before iPhones existed, he put his friend-populated cityguide "Dodgeball" on the wireless web eventually selling the company to Google and leaving after it was shut down. Unable to give up, he approached a similar thesis in 2009 on the iPhone and called this idea Foursquare. Not an overnight success, but through lots of iteration and grit, Foursquare finally took off to over 50 million users. Today, Foursquare is alive as a data company where he stepped down as the CEO, but Dennis' true passion lies bringing new and fun ideas to everyday consumers. http://startuphunter.co
