Opinions clash and pass unphased as Brian, Kevin, Mark, Eric and Pat debate their favorite and most loathed video games
Join Brian, Kevin, and Eric as they weep over the death(s)? of gaming legends in Halo 3. Is this one of the best campaigns in video game history with a multiplayer dominating the peak of Xbox live online gaming or is it just an excuse to slow-motion watch Cortana fall over and cry for your help.......you freak?
Join Brian, Eric, and Kevin as they discuss the latest consoles, Mindustry, Monster Hunter World, and Black Desert Online.
Join Brian and Pat as they fucking thrash to the sick licks and rifts of Doom 2016. Is this just another reboot.....no, no it is not. For once a company brought back an old title, bringing what made it great and adding modern graphics and gameplay. Seriously, this is just a solid FPS.
Join Brian and Pat as they discuss everything from leasing Xbox consoles to mobile hentai masking as a free to play Steam game. It's a wild ride of bitching about the gaming industry and the odd indie game this time around.
Join Brian and Kevin as they sail the high seas and vomit on the poop deck in Sea of Thieves. Is this a refreshing take on the open world multiplayer survival genre or just another walking simulator with hats and wobbly legs?
Join Brian and Kevin as they discuss some Xbox leasing, anime fighting, and more VR stuff.
Join Brian and Kevin as they let out their inner redneck in the demolition derby simulation: Wreckfest. Is this an artful combination of racing and destruction or just another overly complicated sports game?
Join Brian and Kevin as they talk about a variety of games they've been playing, ranging from sailing the high seas to squatting in terror hiding from zombies.
Join Brian and Kevin as they dip back into the nostalgia pool that is Halo 2. Nuff said, this is one of the greatest games......EVER
Join Brian and Kevin as they discuss the value of the Xbox game pass and a variety of topics ranging from gaming with your spouse to sailing the high seas in Sea of Thieves.
It only took 7 months......7 months Kevin. Join Brian and Kevin as they read the dictionary cover to cover in Mass Effect 1. Is this a masterfully written Bioware RPG with an expansive and detailed universe or a book masquerading as a game?
Join Brian, Pat, and Eric as they bunny-hop through the "unbelievably high polygon count" of Painkiller. Is this the spiritual successor to the Doom series that Doom 3 never was, or is it just an FPS relic from another era. In the world of Doom 2016 and Eternal can an old shooter still hold its own?
Join Brian, Pat, Kevin, and Eric as they bridge the link between Halos 1 and 2 via the story of Halo: First Strike. While this is a book rather than a game, this story will answer many of the questions surrounding the first game, specifically how Master Chief returns to Earth. If you were ever curious, but are illiterate, this is the episode for you.
Join Brian and Eric as they play the strategy game beginner's guide that is Halo Wars. Is this one of the most disappointing additions to the Halo series (aside from ODST) or just a mediocre RTS designed for the console? Is this a game that broke both of its legs constantly side-stepping obvious improvements or all that could be expected from 360 hardware at the time. Is this...….WHY THE FUCK COULDN'T YOU PLAY AS THE FLOOD!?!?! Apologies for the delay. Brian (the editor and organizer) has been very busy with work related to the Corona virus and has not had the spare time for editing. On a related note, if you need face masks please email the team at butterdissent@gmail.com. Brian will be able to hook you up.
Join Brian and Eric as they discuss, mostly, indie games you have never heard of. Maybe this will encourage you to reach out to the small developer market and purchase some gems.....or dismiss them. Whatever, you monster. Apologies for the delay. Brian (the editor and organizer) has been very busy with work related to the Corona virus and has not had the spare time for editing. On a related note, if you need face masks please email the team at butterdissent@gmail.com. Brian will be able to hook you up.
Join Brian, Kevin, Eric, and Pat as they take turns jerking off one of the greatest first-person shooters, the almighty Halo 1. Is this the game that redefined the genre and showed that shooters can be more than just an entrance and an exit with bodies in-between or is it just a bland scifi nostalgia trip for Millennials?
Join Brian, Pat, Kevin, and Eric as they discuss the cancellation of E3 and the bullshit surrounding the presentation of gaming teasers. We also "briefly" mention the new Call of Duty battle royale game and the saturation of this genre of gaming. Kevin bores everyone to death with a deep throating of Animal Crossing and finishes with the greatest invention of man-kind: SNAKEY BUSSSSSSS.
Join Brian and Pat as they sort of immerse themselves in the "fantasy" world of Fable 1. Is this the game that helped define the RPG genre and yielded the beginning of choice within RPGs or is it a shallow husk of a linear game with little choice or impact outside of your waist line?
Join Brian and Pat as they discuss the delay of Cyberpunk, Gamestop going under, Nintendo in general (specifically marketing old games), and the new Walking Dead game.
Join Brian and Eric as they submerge themselves in the fantasy RPG genre of gaming in Gothic and Skyrim VR (again). This will be the last episode in the holding pattern of the last few episodes. Thank you for your patience as our crew sorted out various personal shit. The next episode, Fable the Lost Chapters with Brian and Pat, has been recorded and will be out shortly.
Join Brian and Eric as they dive into the nostalgia pit that is Morrowind and discuss the finer points of small number modification via Destiny 2. We are putting out this episode and a couple more to fill up some time while the crew handles various personal matters. Playing these games takes time and rather than rush out an episode or put out an incomplete review we decided to do some "short" gaming news discussions and stories from various games we have played in the past. Thank you for your patience and we promise to get the next full show out as soon as possible.
Join Brian and Eric as they discuss the delay of Cyberpunk 2077, the release of several games, the reduction in price of the Oculus Go VR headset, and the reveal of Alienware's UFO. We are putting out this episode and a couple more to fill up some time while the crew handles various personal matters. Playing these games takes time and rather than rush out an episode or put out an incomplete review we decided to do some "short" gaming news discussions and stories from various games we have played in the past. Join Brian, Pat, Eric, and Kevin as they fall to the dark side in Jedi Fallen Order. Is this an amazing, story-driven successor to the old Jedi Knight series with Dark Souls style combat, or is it another over-hyped EA game bastardizing an old gem?
Join Brian, Pat, Eric, and Kevin as they discuss recent gaming news. This time around they are getting worked up about the new Witcher show on Netflix and the exit of Redbox from the gaming rental service.
Join Brian, Pat, Eric, and Kevin as they discuss some games they have been playing outside of the podcast. This time around it's Call of Duty Modern Warfare (the new one), Star Wars Battlefront II (the new one), and Skyrim VR.
Join Brian and Kevin in a new segment where they discuss other games they have been playing outside of the podcast. This episode centers around the utterly fantastic Star Wars Jedi the Fallen Order, Forza Horizons 4, Skyrim VR, and Arizona Sunshine.
Join Brian and Kevin in a new segment dedicated to gaming news. This discussion centers around Google Stadia, the rough start to its launch, and its questionable marketing scheme.
Join Brian and Kevin as they turn Super Saiyan God and die on impact in Celeste. Is this a beautifully drawn story of a woman coming to terms with societal anxieties or just another indie platformer; different music, new paint job, same Super Meat Boy?
Join Brian, Pat, and Mark as bloodily gush their way through Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Is this the next logical step in From Software gaming as the Dark Souls genre evolves, a bastion of glorious violence and subtle storytelling with a backdrop of nightmare visions? Ooooorrrr....is it just another unreasonably difficult hack and slash that blames the victim (you, the gamer)?
Join Brian, Eric, and Kevin as they talk about what they do in their free time....aka what games they play outside of the podcast (except Brian).
Join Brian, Eric, and Kevin as they argue over the legitimacy of paid DLC and micropayments.....again. Let's be real, I am the one editing and posting these so Kevin is clearly wrong. But seriously, the discussion uncovered some of the deeper reasons behind our differences and revealed some interesting thoughts about the gaming payment system as a whole. Guaranteed this is not the last of these discussions.
Join Brian, Eric, and Kevin as they nobly perish in Halo Reach (the game this time). Feel free to skip the nerd-session that was Episode 22 and jump straight into the fucking confusing action that is the prequel game to the legendary Halo: Combat Evolved. Is this the tearful goodbye to Bungie after years of Spartans, Elites, and Flood before they moved onto the interpretive pastures of Destiny or the shitty end to a beloved saga as it was handed off to the hellish step-father, 343 Industries? At the end of the day, Halo 2 was better. We just wanted to clarify a few things: Sorry for the late posting. We had a few re-recordings of the episode to make sure that we did justice to the story and gameplay. There will be a couple bonus episodes released with this episode. They have little to do with Halo, but for anyone pissed off at the gaming industry for milking the consumer dry, please listen to the micropayment discussion. We have fun endlessly arguing about it and hopefully you will enjoy our debate. I (Brian) apologize for the mistakes I made in during the podcast, specifically with regards to Bungie's involvement and the DMR. There really is no excuse. All I can say is that I was half-way through college when this game was released and may have a bit of a blurred memory from that time period due to lack of sleep, energy drinks, studying, and drinking. Please forgive me and feel free to give me shit on Twitter @utterdissent. We hope to have the next Halo Episode (Halo 1) released sometime in December. There will be a review of the novel First Strike between that and Halo 2 if you are interested in the story behind Master Chief and Johnson returning from the Halo ring to Earth.
Join Brian and Eric as the kick off the Halo series with a review of the book The Fall of Reach. Many Halo fans, such as Eric, are not familiar with the larger cannon of the Halo universe. This episode will bring everyone up to speed with the events leading up to Halo Reach and the original Halo Combat Evolved. Who are the Spartans? What is Reach? Who are you playing as in Halo Reach? Is Cortana an alien relic (spoilers, she is not)? Not only will these questions be answered, but the guys will also discuss the disconnect between the larger story and Halo Reach the game. This episode will be the first of the Halo review series, which will include some of the novels more closely related to the game series.
Join Brian, Eric, and Kevin as they pretend to play a sport and destroy the ambitions of a nice British gentleman in Rocket League and The Stanley Parable. Rocket League.....is it a game that finally brought the strategy and intrigue of sports to a wider audience of gamers or is it just layers of gimmicks hiding the usual immoral micro-payment bullshit? The Stanley Parable.....is it a stellar example of indy gaming that blends humor with an immersive story or is it just yet another pretentious waste of money and time?
Join Brian and Eric as one of their favorite gaming franchises is ruined in Elder Scrolls Online. Seriously, when the fans asked for an online version of Elder Scrolls they did not mean World of Warcraft with extra hats.
Join Brian and Eric as they (don't) survive the zombie apocalypses in Project Zomboid. Is this a gem of an indie survival game that takes realism to a new level or just an excuse to play with File Explorer before dying of dysentery?
Join Brian and Pat as they discuss the finer points of......well sticking the point of a blade in someone's throat. Is this the game that sparked a genre of open world gaming or just a series of tedious fetch quests and fucking meh combat masking a rather heavy atheistic message?
Join Brian and Kevin for the podcast that was half a year in the making...… The guys discuss the finer points of repetitive Nintendo releases and other overly hyped games from E3 before exposing themselves to Fallout 1. Is this a gem of a game that sparked one of the pinnacles of the RPG genre or is it just more of the same, cause Fallout....Fallout never changes.
Join Brian and Eric as they wade through the sea of hype that is E3. Will the new Star Wars game exit the birth canal of EA unscarred? Will Nintendo ever release a novel IP this century? Is anyone not excited for the new Halo installment? Only time will tell. Oh, and they reviewed a $15 flash game.
Join Brian and our new host, Pat, as they eviscerate Dying Light. Is this one of the best zombie games in a genre drowning in cliques or a ghoulish mask covering a cookie-cutter, shit-show of a plot?
Join the guys as they умереть in Metro 2033. Is this a high mark in the post nuclear apocalypse genre of first person shooters with inventive weapons and enemies or just another buggy FPS with shitty voice acting.
Join Mark and Brian as they wade through poo (literally) in Conker's Bad Fur Day. Is this the edgy game that spawned the furry fetish that is the millennial generation or just a Frankenstein monster of shitty versions of every genre in gaming?
Join Mark and Brian as they mash their way through Killer Is Dead. Is this a underappreciated gem filled with mystique and subplots or simply poorly disguised hentai?
This is a continuation of the Don't Starve episode around the topic of new games and those we are currently playing. As with most conversations between Brian and Eric it devolved into a circle-jerk over Elder Scrolls.
Join Brian and Eric as they the finer points of survival without a guide while watching someone freeze to death. Is Don't Starve a high mark in the survival game genre or simply another pointless waste of time?
This is a continuation of the previous episode with our full argument about whether or not EA was correct in removing Nazis from a WWII video game. Spoiler warning.....Kevin is wrong.
Join the guys as they discuss the finer points of dying pointlessly in Europe. Is the Battlefield series still worth playing or are they just turning into money milking machines for EA?
Join Brian and Kevin as the hop back on the indie-wave with Bastion. Is this the game that "redefined storytelling in games" or is it just another bland hack and slash for pompous gamers to over examine through their monocle?
Join Brian and Eric as Brian wastes 156 fucking hours of his life grinding out this tedious, repetitive "strategy" game. Were the older ones better or were we just younger?
Join Brian, Kevin, and Mark as they press their faces to the belt-sander that is Dark Souls. Is this the legendary game that reminded everyone what a real challenge is or are all the fans just masochistic? Praise the Sun!
Join Brian and Eric as they get gang-banged by the zombie hordes in Left 4 Dead. Is this the game that set the bar for four player coop gaming or just another boring, repetitive shooter from Valve (*cough* Team Fortress 2 *cough*)?
