In this episode of Epic Realms, we sit down with game designer Rodney Thompson for an in depth conversation about his journey through tabletop roleplaying games, board games, and video game design. Rodney shares how his early love of Dungeons and Dragons and the West End Games Star Wars RPG shaped his creative path, from college gaming marathons to building homebrew content that eventually opened the door to professional game design. We explore Rodney's time at Wizards of the Coast, including his work on the Star Wars Saga Edition RPG and how lessons from D20 Modern and early fourth edition ideas influenced its structure. Rodney reflects on what worked, what he would change today, and why supporting game masters with strong tools is critical to a game's longevity. The conversation also dives into Rodney's role as a sandbox designer in video games, including his work at Bungie on Destiny. He explains what sandbox design means in both tabletop and video games, how player experience and emotional fantasy drive design decisions, and why iteration and playtesting matter so much across mediums. We also discuss the transition from roleplaying games to board games with Lords of Waterdeep, the lessons learned from physical components and resource management, and how those ideas feed back into RPG design. Finally, Rodney talks about Scratchpad Publishing and his latest tabletop RPG, Neon City Outlaws, a cyberpunk heist and rebellion game that lets players build their city as they play, complete with faction politics, revolution mechanics, and body swapping technology. This episode is a thoughtful look at storytelling through games, creative evolution, and what it means to design experiences that bring people together at the table. We also discuss Larian Studios' response after CEO Swen Vincke addressed backlash over AI use for early ideation — and where the line should be drawn between innovation and creative integrity.Plus, the gaming news you need to know, including Bungie's Marathon losing its senior art director and Hollow Knight: Silksong receiving a major free DLC expansion. If you're enjoying the show, leave a review on Spotify or Apple Podcasts and join our Discord community, where friendships are built through gaming.Join The Gaming Duo Discord Server:https://discord.gg/B7YYMvZtZ2
Let's be honest: This whole Light of Motiram thing was shady from the get-go. A game that blatantly rips off Guerrilla's Horizon franchise, created by the publisher-and-developer combo that was later revealed to have unsuccessfully pitched Sony a Horizon spin-off beforehand? They call that 'dead to rights.' And now it's official, because Sony's lawsuit against Tencent over this facsimile has been dropped with prejudice, and the game has been delisted from Steam. That's a win for PlayStation, and an even bigger win for creativity in the AAA space. We discuss. Plus: Sucker Punch co-founder, long-time producer, and studio lead Brian Fleming is officially retiring from the team after 28 years, Bungie's Marathon is slated to come to PS5 in March, Hollow Knight: Silksong is getting a free nautical expansion in '26, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Should we expect devs to lean more deeply into attractive characters? Do we think "made using AI" warnings will appear on games at some point in the near future? Who's to blame for Highguard's tepid response at The Game Awards? Is it strange if a wheelchair-bound listener wants to proudly wear a Stand Down shirt? We start with breaking corporate news as Warner Bros. Discovery is expected to reject Paramount's latest acquisition offer, choosing instead to move forward with its $82.7 billion Netflix deal. If finalized, Netflix would gain control of Warner Bros. Games, including massive IP like Mortal Kombat, DC, Harry Potter, and more. We discuss whether Netflix will license these franchises out—or finally go all-in on games—and what this could mean for the future of AAA development. Next, we look at alarming new data showing US hardware sales and physical game spending just hit their worst November in 30 years. Despite heavy Black Friday promotions, record-high console prices dragged sales down, even as PS5 emerged as the best-selling console for the month. We break down what this says about the future of physical games, hardware pricing, and consumer behavior. Then we tackle the ongoing AI controversy in game development, as Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke responds forcefully to backlash over AI usage following The Game Awards. Vincke makes it clear: artists are not being replaced. We discuss where AI fits responsibly in modern game development—and where players are drawing the line. The episode also covers Bungie's major Marathon update, including a March 2026 release date, revamped visuals, deeper PvE, hardcore gameplay shifts, solo playlists, expanded weapon mod systems, and new lore teases. After months of controversy, Bungie appears to be rebuilding trust—so we ask: Is Marathon finally back on track? And can it stand alongside competitors like Arc Raiders? Plus, listener questions and reactions on Bungie, PlayStation strategy, and shooter fatigue.

The guys discuss if the new look, price point, and release date is enough to attract players. Finally, Nvidia is reportedly planning to cut production by 30-40% of their RTX 50 series GPU's in the first half of 2026. We serveren je een nieuwe aflevering van Gamekings Daily. In deze gaming vodcast praten twee presentatoren van Gamekings over de laatste ontwikkelingen uit de wereld die videogames heet. Altijd vergezeld van een fijne mening. We blijven immers Gamekings.

When it comes to the evolving gaming market, there's a lot for Sony to keep an eye on in the years and decades to come. To keep PlayStation the vibrant brand it is today, the company needs to spread the field, and two newly-announced projects -- an all-new co-op multiplayer game from the director of Left 4 Dead and a mobile port of mega-popular baseball franchise MLB: The Show -- fit the bill nicely. It's true that Sony has had more than its fair share of false starts (and even outright failures) in both the mobile and games-as-a-service space. Yet, there's gold in them there hills. Lots of it. Can Sony finally slay some off-platform and off-genre demons and reap some rewards? We discuss. Plus: Nixxes helps reduce Helldivers 2's PC file size by an astounding 85%, Bungie has apparently solved its dispute with the artist it purportedly stole Marathon-related art from, Shovel Knight developer Yacht Club Games finds itself in self-inflicted financial duress, Amazon has already renewed the God of War TV show for a second season, and more. This week on Tower Casuals: The Destiny PodcastCorey Dirrig and Josh Finney sit down to talk about the newest expansion in Destiny's fresh era, Destiny 2: Renegades. They get into the story beats, what nails that Star Wars vibe, the fun homages, and the stuff that… doesn't quite hit. They chat about Dregen Bael and his very Kylo Ren–style arc, including how cool it could've been if Bungie had the runway to flesh it out over a few expansions. They also talk about where Renegades fits in the overall timeline—and whether this one might've made more sense before The Final Shape, or even earlier than The Witch Queen or Lightfall. To wrap things up, Corey and Josh give the campaign a grade and figure out where it sits in Destiny's 11 years of stories. Justin Lin, known for his work on the Fast and Furious franchise, is officially set to direct Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions' live-action Helldivers movie. With a script from Gary Dauberman, Lin is reportedly focusing on character, world-building, and thematic depth as he brings the popular Arrowhead Game Studios franchise to film. The long-anticipated Amazon God of War TV series is now moving into pre-production, with Frederick E.O. Toye directing the first two episodes. Casting has begun for Kratos and Atreus, putting to rest ongoing speculation about who will take on the lead roles. Toye's previous work on Shogun, The Boys, Westworld, and Watchmen signals a high-quality adaptation. Meanwhile, recent rumors linking Christopher Judge to the role have been dismissed. A mysterious statue discovered in the Mojave Desert, tied to a teaser from Geoff Keighley, has sparked intense speculation about what game it represents. Fans have theorized connections to God of War, Diablo, Fallout, Doom, Baldur's Gate, and even Half-Life due to nearby road names, but multiple insiders have ruled out several of these possibilities. The statue continues to generate discussion as more clues appear. Industry commentary also includes discussion around claims from HipHopGamer regarding a new PlayStation experience that could feature elements from all generations of PlayStation hardware and include a social component reminiscent of PlayStation Home. This speculation opens broader conversations about what PlayStation, Xbox, and PC gaming may look like in the next hardware cycle. The controversy involving Bungie's Marathon art dispute has reached a resolution, with artist Fern “4nt1r34l” Hook stating that the issue has been resolved to her satisfaction. Bungie previously acknowledged that a former employee had used her work without permission during the game's early development and removed the affected assets from the project. Yacht Club Games, the studio behind Shovel Knight, is facing a critical moment as it prepares for the release of Mina the Hollower. According to Bloomberg, the studio's future stability depends heavily on the game's sales performance. With the team having downsized and paused work on a separate 3D Shovel Knight project, the success of Mina the Hollower may determine the direction of the studio moving forward. Additional updates include a significant reduction to Helldivers 2's PC install size, a new limited-edition Genshin Impact DualSense controller for PS5, the soft launch of MLB The Show Mobile on iOS and Android, and new accusations that Sony used generative AI artwork for its PlayStation Advent Calendar promotional campaign. This episode brings together the biggest stories shaping PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and the wider gaming industry, with insight into upcoming adaptations, studio challenges, production reveals, and the future direction of gaming.

We kick things off with evidence that Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is heading to PC far sooner than expected. A new ESRB rating has surfaced for the PC version—listing Sony Interactive Entertainment as the publisher—strongly suggesting a rapid turnaround similar to the first game's sub-one-year PC launch. With Kojima Productions expanding the franchise into animated films, A24 partnerships, and Disney+ series, the Death Stranding universe is entering its biggest era yet. Next, a 10-minute leak of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake has spilled online, showing early gameplay, mocap sessions, Farah's redesigned character concepts, and confirmation of two new locations built from the ground up. Ubisoft has been issuing copyright strikes, validating the footage's authenticity. Quality looks early-alpha, but it's the clearest look yet at the long-delayed remake's evolution. We then turn to huge internal rumblings at Bungie: credible leaks point to Destiny 3 being in extremely early development, reportedly positioned as a major tentpole release for the PS6 generation. This comes as Destiny 2 struggles with engagement, follows a $200 million write-down from Sony, and Marathon continues through testing before launch. With Destiny fatigue setting in, Bungie is under immense pressure to deliver a franchise reset. FLASH NEWS breaks down the rapid-fire updates you need to know: • Cyberpunk 2077 hits a massive 35 million units sold • A Far Cry TV series is officially in the works with Noah Hawley attached • PlayStation Plus December lineup revealed: LEGO Horizon Adventures, Killing Floor 3, The Outlast Trials, and Synduality Echo of Ada If you're here for PlayStation insights, industry leaks, and deep-dive coverage of the biggest stories in gaming, this episode has everything.

Episode 402 - Trophy Hunters AnonymousThis week on PS This Is Awesome!, we dig into a packed slate of PlayStation updates and industry chatter. First up, Jason Schreier reports that Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet won't land until 2027, which actually lines up with Naughty Dog's habit of dropping major releases near the end of a console cycle — just like The Last of Us Part I and II. We also take a look at Zoopunk, the newly announced prequel to F.I.S.T., bringing third-person action to that universe in a way that already looks surprisingly slick.Bungie's Marathon is running another closed playtest this month, and we discuss what that might mean heading into 2026. Last year, Sony launched it's service-based third-person shooter Concord, and it bombed worse than virtually any PlayStation-developed title in history. In fact, it was received so poorly that Sony disappeared it off the market in a matter of two weeks, gave everyone their money back, and snuffed the entire project out of existence while closing the studio that made it. Fast-forward more than a year, though, and Concord has kinda-sorta returned. Tech-savvy enthusiasts have revived the game on private servers, but Sony has already caught wind of it all and are working to nip it in the bud. Do we really need Concord to return? Why does Sony care if it does? And why do smart people work so diligently on things they don't own or have control over? Plus: Black Friday will be exceptionally nice for those looking for PlayStation hardware, accessories, and games, Sony dominates The Game Awards nominations with 19, Bungie prods its playerbase for ideas on how to improve Destiny 2, EA's F1 series is taking a year hiatus, possibly indicating the future of EA Sports, Peacock renews Twisted Metal for a third season, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Do we keep the physical boxes for our gaming hardware? Would Sony ever revive The Legend of Dragoon? How does one navigate gaming's ragebait culture?
