With Grand Theft Auto VI finally launching this November, we've been left without a key piece of information: Its price. Conjecture and prognostication has run rampant, but now we have confirmation that GTA6's base cost is $80 in the United States, with a $100 version offering players some perks and unlocks. With our long-awaited trip down to Leonida drawing closer on the horizon, we've much to discuss, including our hype level, whether we'll buy the base or special edition, the lack of a real physical version, and -- perhaps most intriguingly -- no new trailer or gameplay videos to help sell a product that (let's be honest) probably doesn't need much help to begin with. Other news this week includes significant layoffs at Sony-owned Bungie, indications that God of War: Laufey may launch as early as Q1 2027, more delisted shovelware tripe removed from PlayStation Store, executive-level issues at FromSoft, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! What's with Steam Machine's absurd price? Should Sony look to invest in any of Xbox's distressed assets? Why did PlayStation even bother publishing Midnight Murder Club if they were only going to ignore it? Will Chris and Colin one day have their shared ex-psychiatrist on the show to discuss our many mental ailments? And the bad news just keeps rolling on. To start with, after the wonderful help and generosity with the help of our hosting costs – our host decided to increase our costs. If you are able to help, and I get that we're living in times right now where helping, financially, is difficult, we appreciate even the least little bit. It's all laid out in the post just below this one on our website. So, again, thank you. As for the other bad news, Microsoft is currently in the reaping part of that whole phrase/verse/proverb. And it really sucks. We keep a running tally of job losses at the end of each of these posts and that number is about to go WAY up. Nothing has happened yet but it's likely to in the weeks to come. And it's happening with Bungie & Sony as well. I'm not sure what the good news could be or any kind of silver lining in all of this is, but I don't think it's going to stop or slow down any time soon. There's a whole ripple effect that's going on with a near perfect storm of economic issues, RAM issues because of AI (and the economy), and game/console development issues because of the RAM and the economy. As much as I harp on Ubisoft for never releasing another Splinter Cell – it won't save them. I get now why they are just, seemingly, going with a remake. It's been…it's been 4,689 days since a new Splinter Cell game (non-animated series or guest spot in another game franchise, remake, BBC radio drama, or VR exclusive) was released. Also, there's been 3,895 job losses in the gaming industry since January 1, 2026.
We again must talk about Microsoft and it's terrible choices, Bungie's equally terrible choices. the Persona franchise, getting back into FF14, AND MORE!!!!!!!

This week on The Inner Gamer, we tackle a massive crossroad for the entire video game industry. We lead off with an in-depth review of 007 First Light, breaking down how IO Interactive successfully stepped away from their classic Hitman sandbox formula to deliver a tight, narrative-driven James Bond origin story that balances high-octane spy craft with incredible narrative momentum. Then, we are joined by a special guest to brave the waters of Windrose, the breakout Early Access pirate survival RPG, exploring whether its phenomenal "Soulslite" ground combat makes up for its arcade naval physics and the distinct lack of a solo pause feature. In our main segment, the crew splits down the middle in a fierce debate over Bungie's historic announcement to freeze development on Destiny 2 following the Monument of Triumph patch. Is cutting off a ten-year-old game a necessary, pragmatic evolution to focus all hands on Marathon, or is abandoning a premier multi-billion dollar franchise a critical corporate error under Sony's roof? Finally, we sift through the massive firehose of announcements from the Xbox Showcase, State of Play, and Summer Game Fest. We take around 15 of the biggest upcoming titles—including Marvel's Wolverine, Control Resonant, Halo: Campaign Evolved, and Gears of War: E-Day—and map them into a master thematic blueprint so you can cut through the marketing noise and find your next definitive gaming obsession before GTA 6 arrives to alter the landscape. The Future of Destiny 2: What You Need to Know About Its Last Update Meta Description: Discover the latest on Destiny 2’s final update and what it means for players. Learn about server shutdowns, content changes, and the future of Bungie’s game development. Opening ParagraphDestiny 2 players are facing a significant change as Bungie announces the end of new content updates for the game. With the last update rolling out on June 9th, many players are left wondering what this means for their beloved game. In this post, we’ll break down the details of this final update, what players can expect, and the implications of Bungie’s shift in focus towards new projects like Marathon. The Last Hurrah for Destiny 2 The announcement that June 9th will mark the last official update for Destiny 2 has sent shockwaves through the community. This beloved game was initially designed to be a long-term project, with developers promising a decade of content and updates. Unfortunately, it appears that the game will only last about eight and a half years. After numerous expansions and updates, players are left with more questions than answers. Why Is Destiny 2 Shutting Down? A Shift in Focus: Bungie has decided to shift its resources away from Destiny 2 to focus on a new project, Marathon, which is a departure from their previous titles. Player Engagement: Many players have expressed frustration with the game’s direction, citing paywalls and a lack of engaging content as reasons for their dwindling interest. What Will the Last Update Include? The final update promises to shake things up significantly: Buffs to Primary Weapons: Players can expect a revamp of weapon dynamics, which could alter the game’s balance. Removal of Portals: This change will impact gameplay mechanics, forcing players to adapt to new strategies. A Final Showdown: The update aims to bring all players together for one last epic experience before the game transitions to its new phase. The Community Reaction The community’s response to the shutdown announcement has been mixed. Many players feel a sense of loss, having invested time and money into the game. Others see it as an opportunity for Bungie to finally move on from a game that has seen better days. Players’ Concerns Future of the Game: With the servers going offline, many are left wondering if they can ever return to the game in the same capacity. Home Servers: Some players are exploring the possibility of creating private servers to keep the game alive amongst friends. What's Next for Bungie? As Bungie shifts its focus to Marathon, players are left to ponder the future. Will Bungie learn from the mistakes made during Destiny 2's lifecycle? New Horizons with Marathon Concept Overview: Marathon is a new shooter set in a unique digital world, focusing on extracting data from enemies. Expectations: Players are hoping for a smoother launch and a more engaging experience that avoids the pitfalls of paywalls and repetitive content. Conclusion The end of Destiny 2 as we know it marks a pivotal moment in gaming history. While the last update has the potential to offer an exhilarating finale, it also raises questions about Bungie’s direction and commitment to its player base. As the gaming community pivots towards new projects, it remains to be seen how Bungie will navigate this transition and what it will mean for dedicated fans of Destiny 2. Key Takeaways June 9th marks the last update for Destiny 2, signaling the end of an era. Players can expect significant changes in gameplay dynamics with the final update. Bungie is shifting focus towards its new project, Marathon, in hopes of revitalizing its offerings. On today's episode #233, we discus the shocking announcment from Bungie that Destiny 2 will be coming to an end and we get into the nitty gritty of the community backlash and civil war that's spawned from that news. In other news, hardware prices continue to soar but don't worry, Star Citizen has all the funding it will ever need. All that plus Ben's thoughts on The Duskbloods 2.
We know many of you are tired of talking about Bungie, and frankly, we're kind of tired of discussing them, too. Then again, we're captive to the news, so blame Sony for purchasing them. On the back of last week's discussion about the end of Destiny 2 comes word that Bungie is planning major layoffs as it attempts to greenlight a new project to develop alongside the ongoing Marathon. And no, Destiny 3 isn't happening. At least not yet. What's next for this beleaguered team? If we're being totally candid and honest, does a future for Bungie even really exist at all? There's lots of other news this week, too, including rumors surrounding Media Molecule's next game, the peculiar re-reveal of the long-in-development Dragon Quest XII, the confirmation of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 and its October release, trouble surrounding PlayStation 3 emulation on Linux, The Witcher 3's new expansion coming more than a decade after the last, Persona 4 Remake's surprise South Korean games rating, and much more. Then: Listener inquiries! Are indie games treated more softly than AA/AAA games when it comes to reviews? What could the drastic increase in SteamDeck pricing mean for PlayStation 6? Is former Sony second party partner Quantic Dream doomed? Why would anyone try to talk about Sacred Symbols with Magic: The Gathering nerds? This episode is sponsored by BetterHelp.
