From the secret pregnancy rumors to the "Mean Girl" tag-team with Gia, we dissect the dinner party where Brook went absolutely off the hinge. We recorded this episode 14 years to the day after HamRadioiNow Episode ONE was released to an unsuspecting public. A hat-tip to that, and we move on. Our first stop, Gary complains about his newest radio acquisition, a TYT MD UC 390, a waterproof dual-band DMR handheld. The problems: too loud at the lowest volume, and a dim screen (but remember, Gary is slowly going blind). Then a comment about the previous episode on MARS and its 100 year anniversary, and on to a version of A Ham's Night Before Christmas, recorded by Ashley Bernard (formerly KC1CPS - license expired). She recorded it back in 2014, apparently unaware that Gary had his own video up a few years earlier. Also unaware that Gary existed, as the poem was performed without credit. But we're glad she even noticed and took the trouble to record her own version.Next, hams in eastern Ohio (in the Charleston WV TV market) got on the news for helping out during the big east coast ice storm a few weeks ago. Then a note about the two major Hollywood movies out this year, apparently all about Ham Radio: Hamnet and Tron ARES. We're looking forward to seeing them. No spoilers, please. Finally, a look at the radio communications aspect of an NTSB final report on the midair collision between an Army helicopter and a commercial jet in Washington DC last year. There were many contributing factors. Among them was the problem that the ‘copter was on a military channel, and the jet was on the regular aviation frequency, so they couldn't hear each other. A YouTube guy who calls himself Captain Steeeve - a recently retired American Airlines pilot - reviewed the incident on his YouTube channel. Gary excerpted the radio-specific comments, but you can see the whole program here. He also talks about the problem with the antique AM radio system used by aviation, and the problem with what hams call ‘doubling', and pilots call ‘blocking'.

3 New Ways to Avoid Weight Regain After GLP1

Dr. Pepper....Really?

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 10, 2026 6:24

Introduction — Are GLP-1 Drugs Forever?Have you heard experts say that GLP-1 medications like Ozempic, Wegovy, or Zepbound are forever drugs — because once you stop, you regain all the weight?I'm not fully convinced that's true.I've found three promising approaches being developed that may help people stop medication without immediate weight regain. Each approach is completely different:One focuses on the stomachOne on the brainOne on structured lifestyle interventionI'm Dr. Gary Pepper. I've practiced endocrinology for over 30 years. This podcast is unsponsored, and I receive no financial compensation from the treatments discussed. This content is educational only and not a substitute for medical care from your physician.Chapter 1 — Resetting the Gut (DMR)The first approach is called Duodenal Mucosal Resurfacing (DMR).The theory is that while you're on GLP-1 medication, the part of the stomach that normally produces appetite-regulating hormones becomes dormant. After long enough, it may struggle to restart when medication stops.DMR removes the top layer of the stomach lining using a heated endoscope. This forces regeneration of fresh cells that produce appetite-controlling hormones. In a short three-month study, patients who underwent the procedure did not regain weight after stopping medication — some continued to lose. This sounds dramatic, but the technique is already FDA-approved for other stomach conditions. It is not yet approved for weight management, but it shows where research is heading.Chapter 2 — Retraining the Brain (rTMS)The second approach targets the brain instead of the gut. It's called Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) — already used for depression treatment.Magnetic coils stimulate appetite control centers in the brain. After just five weeks of treatment, participants lost as much weight over a year as those taking semaglutide for a full year. This is early research, but it suggests appetite control may eventually be trained neurologically rather than chemically.Chapter 3 — Exercise as Hormone RehabilitationThe third approach is the most practical and immediately available: structured exercise.Researchers at the University of Copenhagen studied people stopping GLP-1 medication after a year of use. Those who followed a structured program of resistance and cardio training regained almost no weight — averaging about five pounds over a year. Those returning to sedentary habits regained most of their weight.Exercise appeared to restore the body's natural GLP-1-like hormone production. This is not about willpower. It's biological rehabilitation.Closing — A Changing LandscapeThese three approaches show that weight regain after GLP-1 is not inevitable. The science is evolving quickly.I'll continue tracking new developments and sharing updates here. Thanks for listeninGary Pepper, M.D., an associate professor at a prominent medical school and endocrinologist with 40 years of experience, brings clarity to numerous topics within the field of metabolic health. His view points are unhindered by corporate interests, unlike many other current "thought leaders" in medicine. Dr. Pepper, a dedicated educator, established his homebase website www.metabolism.com in 1996 and has blogged on important topics since then. Not one to be left behind by technology he began podcasting in 2020 with the onset of the pandemic and continues publishing vlogs on YouTube at his channel metabolism123. So whatever your choice in media, you will be gaining fresh insights by tuning in to his opinionated shows or reading his blogs on critical health topics.

Standout titles like The Naked Gun, Mission: Impossible, Avatar Fire & Ash, F1, Weapons, Sinners, and One Battle After Another showcase how studios leaned hard into recognizable IP while still taking creative risks. From high-octane action and jaw-dropping visuals to darker, character-driven thrillers, these films fueled nonstop discussion among movie fans, critics, and podcast audiences alike. Searches for best movies of the year, top ten films, and must-see blockbusters surged as audiences returned to theaters looking for cinematic events worth the big screen experience. This year was also packed with major events in film, including massive opening weekends, long-awaited sequels, and filmmakers pushing technology and storytelling forward. Avatar Fire & Ash continued to redefine visual effects and world-building, while Mission: Impossible proved practical stunts still draw crowds. The surprise buzz around films like Sinners and Weapons highlighted the growing appetite for original, edgy cinema alongside tentpole releases. Meanwhile, industry moments such as record-breaking box office performances, renewed debates around theatrical vs. streaming releases, and the rise of filmmaker-driven franchises made this a landmark year for movies. Global Medical Device Podcast powered by Greenlight Guru

The FDA's new Quality Management System Regulation (QMSR), which replaces the 21 CFR Part 820 Quality System Regulation (QSR) and incorporates ISO 13485:2016 by reference, represents a significant harmonization effort in the medical device industry. While viewed by some as a mere streamlining, the change is mandatory, with an effective and fully enforceable date of February 2, 2026. The episode addresses industry complacency and details critical steps manufacturers must take immediately. The episode debunks the myth that familiar quality documents like the DHF, DMR, and DHR are being eliminated. While the specific terms are removed from the regulation's language, their substance is retained and mapped to new, ISO-aligned conceptual requirements: the Device Master Record (DMR) becomes the Medical Device File (MDF), the Design History File (DHF) becomes the Design and Development File (DDP), and the Device History Record (DHR) is captured in the Batch or Lot Record. The host emphasizes that internal documents can retain the old terminology, provided a clear regulatory mapping is established.Crucially, compliance requires more than just an ISO 13485 certificate. Two major philosophical shifts must be addressed: the explicit requirement for integrating lifecycle risk management as the DNA of the entire QMS, and the loss of the audit privilege, which makes internal audit reports, supplier audit reports, and management review records inspectable regulatory evidence. Furthermore, manufacturers must comply with retained, US-specific requirements under the QMSR's prevalence rule, especially concerning mandatory record content (§ 820.35) and specific labeling and packaging controls (§ 820.45).Key Timestamps[0:50] QMSR: The biggest shakeup to US quality requirements since 1996.[2:00] Effective Date: February 2, 2026—the clock is ticking.[2:42] The Goal: Harmonization with ISO 13485:2016 to reduce redundancy for global manufacturers.[3:50] Myth 1 Busted: The FDA is eliminating the DHF, DMR, and DHR (Documentation Dissolution).[5:10] Terminology Shift: DMR > Medical Device File (MDF, ISO 13485 Clause 4.2.3).[6:30] Terminology Shift: DHF > Design and Development File (DDP, ISO 13485 Clause 7.3.10).[7:40] Terminology Shift: DHR > Batch or Lot Record (ISO 13485 Clause 7.5.1).[8:40] The Practical Takeaway: Internal naming is fine, but regulatory mapping is mandatory.[10:30] Critical Shift 1: Risk Management is the DNA of the QMS—Explicitly required across all clauses.[13:00] Critical Shift 2: Loss of the Audit Privilege—Internal audit and management review records are now inspectable.[17:00] Critical Shift 3: Retained FDA Specifications (Prevalence Rule).

Send us a textWelcome back to DMR!Jurassic World: Rebirth is a visually impressive but narratively uneven return to the dinosaur blockbuster formula. Critics praise its thrilling set pieces, polished effects, and renewed focus on the prehistoric stars that made the franchise iconic. It's a big, loud, entertaining ride that captures some of the old magic, and for audiences simply craving dino mayhem, it largely delivers. The cast is solid, the action sequences are well-executed, and it feels more respectful of the original Jurassic Park tone than some recent installments. But the story itself doesn't quite evolve — it's weighed down by thin characters, predictable plotting, and a few unnecessary subplots. Many reviewers describe it as fun but forgettable, a movie that entertains in the moment yet doesn't leave a lasting impact. That's why it sits at around 50% on Rotten Tomatoes: half the critics enjoyed the spectacle, while the other half felt the franchise is stuck in the past. In short, Rebirth roars but doesn't soar!Remember to grab your 30 day free Audible trial, link is in the show, you will also support DMR!Support the showThe audio clips used in this podcast, including excerpts from movie/series/documentary trailers, are used under the principles of fair use and fair dealing for the purpose of criticism, commentary, and review. Send us a textWelcome back to DMR!One Battle After Another is a 2025 action-thriller directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, featuring Leonardo DiCaprio as Bob, a former revolutionary leader trying to live a quiet life off the grid with his daughter, Willa, played by Chase Infiniti. Their peace is shattered when Willa disappears, pulling Bob back into a world he thought he'd left behind. Teyana Taylor plays Perfidia, a figure from Bob's past whose allegiances are uncertain, while Sean Penn portrays Colonel Steven J. Lockjaw, an old adversary with unfinished business. The film also features Benicio del Toro and Regina Hall in pivotal supporting roles. With its grounded performances and politically charged storyline, the film blends personal stakes with broader themes of loyalty, consequence, and resistance. Paul Thomas Anderson brings his signature style to the project—blending suspense, emotional weight, and rich character dynamics—which may draw critical attention. While it certainly has the hallmarks of a high-caliber drama, One Battle After Another seems more focused on telling a tight, character-driven story than chasing awards. That said, with the talent involved, it wouldn't be surprising if it ends up in the conversation during awards season.Reminder to grab your 30 day free trial with Audible and help support DMR in the process, link in the show!Support the showThe audio clips used in this podcast, including excerpts from movie/series/documentary trailers, are used under the principles of fair use and fair dealing for the purpose of criticism, commentary, and review. This final chapter sees Seong Gi-hun return not as a player, but as a man with a mission—to dismantle the twisted machinery behind the games. Across six tightly wound episodes, the show doubles down on moral ambiguity, betrayal, and the human cost of survival. Familiar faces resurface, past wounds are torn open, and justice becomes a blood-stained pursuit. It's not just about who survives anymore—it's about who can live with what they've done. The ending doesn't just tie up loose ends; it leaves scars—on characters and viewers alike. But Squid Game was always bigger than its plot. It reshaped global entertainment, proving that a Korean-language series could dominate the world's screens and spark global conversations about inequality, desperation, and the price of choice. Its legacy is etched not just in ratings or awards, but in culture—those green tracksuits, the haunting music, the symbolism of every game. Season 3 may mark the end of the story, but Squid Game's impact will echo for years. Send us a textWelcome back to DMR!Sinners (2025) is a bold, genre-blending film that fuses supernatural horror with rich musical drama, all set in the haunting backdrop of 1930s Mississippi. Directed by Ryan Coogler, the movie follows twin brothers—played by Michael B. Jordan—who return to their hometown to open a juke joint and escape their violent pasts. What unfolds is a slow-burning, atmospheric story layered with blues, gospel, and soul music that doesn't just underscore the scenes—it drives the emotion and tension. The visuals are lush and haunting, and the story avoids cheap scares in favor of deeper psychological and cultural unease. What makes Sinners stand out is its emotional depth and originality. Instead of relying on franchise familiarity or overused horror tropes, it dives into themes of redemption, racial trauma, faith, and family legacy with sincerity and craft. Jordan delivers a nuanced dual performance, and the supporting cast brings authenticity to the story's gritty, soulful tone. Critically acclaimed and a box office hit, Sinners has earned major awards and resonated with audiences for being more than just a horror film—it's a powerful, character-driven experience that lingers long after the credits roll. I'm thinking of dumping the 2nd focal plane lpvo, what suggestions would you have for a different optic for that concept? Otherwise, what would you guys do for a "modern battle rifle" setup? I want to get a Midwest suppressor hand guard and a dead air can for it so I can have more rail space. Would this be a good set up? Any other suggestions? I have a heat wrap on the rail now and it takes up almost the entire rail. Help Alex S - I recently picked up an older Rem700 in 7mm Rem Mag. Been shooting my .308 out to distance (~550yds) but wanted to go further so i picked this up on a deal. I posted on DangFree about my new scope(Strike Eagle 5-25 FFP) and got a lot of great help there. My question for you today is about the barrel. It is the standard thinner profile barrel and heats up quick after my first few rounds. Is it worth swapping the barrel out to a bull? Should i leave this rifle as-is and invest in a new platform? Any other suggestions? Thanks for your abuse in advance! Wls4life Ragequit from Twitch - Hola everybody, looking into some defensive pistol/ar training and I'm having a hard time trying to figure out what is worth the time and money. I have seen everything from basic pistol courses where it appears they are indoors at a range to courses that are defensive/competition style classes. And when looking into defensive ar courses it runs the gamut from just getting into ar's to having “professional” training for wet work. What do I look for when trying to decipher the description of classes? I am located near the PA/MD/VA area so for the most part that is not a bad drive for most training if there is a recommendation for classes. What should I look for and what “descriptions “ should I steer away from. I appreciate any help, one of the watchers from twitch Ryan W - I have a registered SBR and recently moved to a new city. (It's an actual SBR with a stock, not a braced pistol, I am not one of those guys.) I read on the ATF website that a change of address form could be submitted after a move, as long as I am not crossing state lines. However, I have also read that the ATF is no longer requiring a change of address form at all, as long as the new address is in the same state. Do you know if this is true? Also, how long do you have after a move to notify the ATF? Thank you for the help...hopefully Mike H - Throwing an update since I already decided on my optic I was asking about earlier, found a great deal on a Sig Sierra3BDX 4.5-14x44 scope and picked up a rangefinder to go with, the scope was only $300 Nick F - odd question but have any of the cast looked into the "no new cemetery " conspiracy? I've found that some cemeteries practice the 50/100 year rule. apparently you don't own your plot forever..... Daniel A - What would you choose to defend yourself FN HP 9mm older model or a DB9 gen4? Racing by feel and winning with heart.Margot Appleton has emerged as one of the premier collegiate distance runners in the U.S., blending tactical brilliance, relentless drive, and a flair for dramatic finishes.In 2019, as a high school junior, Appleton stunned the field at Boston's Mayor's Cup 5K, finishing second overall in 17:14—outpacing the reigning Foot Locker national champion. This performance marked a significant breakthrough in her running career. Most recently, at the 2025 Penn Relays, Appleton delivered a sensational anchor leg in the Distance Medley Relay (DMR), clocking a 4:21.46 split. Overcoming a significant deficit, she surged past top competitors to secure Virginia's first women's DMR win at the event since 1982. Her 1500m time of 4:05.68 at the 2025 Raleigh Relays ranks as the fourth-fastest in collegiate history.Appleton holds Virginia school records in the indoor mile (4:25.03), indoor 3000m (8:46.23), and outdoor 5000m (15:18.21). Appleton has earned First Team All-American honors in both the 1500m and 5000m events, including a 4th-place finish in the 5000m at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships. In today's conversation, Margot takes me through her successful, consistent career at UVU, being a leader on the team, what it would mean to her to win an NCAA title, what her training looks like, training without a GPS watch, and so much more.Tap into the Margot Appleton Special.  If you enjoy the podcast, please consider following us on Spotify and Apple Podcasts and giving us a five-star review! I would also appreciate it if you share it with your friend who you think will benefit from it. Comment the word "PODCAST" below and I'll DM you a link to listen. If this episode blesses you, please share it with a friend!S H O W  N O T E S-The Run Down By The Running Effect (our new newsletter!): https://tinyurl.com/mr36s9rs-BUY MERCH BEFORE IT'S GONE: https://shop.therunningeffect.run-Our Website: https://therunningeffect.run -THE PODCAST ON YOUTUBE: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UClLcLIDAqmJBTHeyWJx_wFQ-My Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/therunningeffect/?hl=en-Take our podcast survey: https://tinyurl.com/3ua62ffz

Send us a textWelcome back to DMR!As I review the latest kids movie taking the world by storm:"Welcome to the world of Minecraft, where creativity doesn't just help you craft, it's essential to one's survival! Four misfits--Garrett "The Garbage Man" Garrison (Jason Momoa), Henry (Sebastian Eugene Hansen), Natalie (Emma Myers) and Dawn (Danielle Brooks)--find themselves struggling with ordinary problems when they are suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into the Overworld: a bizarre, cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination. To get back home, they'll have to master this world (and protect it from evil things like Piglins and Zombies, too) while embarking on a magical quest with an unexpected, expert crafter, Steve (Jack Black). Together, their adventure will challenge all five to be bold and to reconnect with the qualities that make each of them uniquely creative... the very skills they need to thrive back in the real world."The film as already made over $552m globaly in less than two weeks and has become the most successful video game based movie in history! This film had elements of The Labyrinth, The Matrix & Tron; however it definitely stands on its own two feet despite some similarities. This is what happens when you make a kids movie that stays true to its story and avoids adding in politics or changing a storyline.Enjoy - DMRSupport the show
