A week after the Super Bowl and we finally got The Mandalorian and Grogu trailer, took long enough. Also Warner Bros seems to finally relent and gives Paramount 7 days to try again. If the Simpsons ever ends, which is probably more likely than you think, it wont spend time on a grand finale. PlayStation held a state of play last week, and it was heavy on Kratos, plus if you are waiting on a steam deck, blame AI.

In today's Daily Fix:First-party PlayStation support studio Bluepoint Games has been shuttered by Sony. The studio most notably developed the remakes of Shadow of the Colossus and Demon's Souls, both of which were well-received. They also assisted in several game collections such as the Metal Gear Solid HD collection, Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, and others. Bluepoint was acquired by Sony in 2021 and assisted in the development of God of War Ragnarök. In other news, Bethesda director Todd Howard teased a return to "classic style" Bethesda in Elder Scrolls 6, and giving examples of exploration done in games like Fallout 3 and 4, Skyrim, and others. And finally, Kratos voice actor Christopher Judge has teased something God of War related for "late summer."

I won't speak too much on the structure of The Game Awards. It's the usual thing year in and year out. We've been here before and we'll be back here again next year. Same show. Same complaints. What I will talk about is why we're announcing games that, at the earliest, we'll never see until 2030. I know we've had announcements of games far in advance before but this one feels significant, I guess. We've also had games announced that never got released so this isn't all that new but it just seems a waste to put it out there while we'll likely never hear about it again for another 2 years or maybe 3. Elder Scrolls 6 was teased back in 2018, I think, and we've heard nothing about it since. Perhaps it really depends on the game. Like Elder Scrolls there is a massive fan base who are familiar with waiting and waiting on the next installment though this has been a rather longer wait than ever before. And so we're here with a Star Wars title that won't release before 203 – again a massively large fan base who are also familiar with waiting on the next installment. Of course, they'll need to tread lightly. We've waited on games and other media before for very long times only to have them arrive with massive disappointment. Eventually the waiting builds up enough hype to where it peaks before the thing even releases and by then everyone's expectations are either so high the game never lives up to it or so low it doesn't sell because people have already peaked their hype and moved on. Gamers have short memories, however. But I haven't forgotten about Ubisoft. It has been 4,500 days since a new Splinter Cell game (non-animated series or guest spot in another game franchise, remake, BBC radio drama, or VR exclusive) was released. Also, there's been 5,300 job losses in the gaming industry since January 1, 2025.

Jurandir Filho, Felipe Mesquita, João Pimenta e Bruno Carvalho batem um papo as diferenças entre os RPGs japoneses (JRPGs) e os RPGs ocidentais (WRPGs). Embora compartilhem a mesma base, como evolução de personagens, grandes narrativas e escolhas estratégicas, cada lado desenvolveu sua própria identidade cultural, estética e mecânica ao longo das décadas. Os RPGs japoneses surgiram fortemente influenciados por títulos de mesa como "Dungeons & Dragons", mas rapidamente ganharam personalidade própria. São marcados por histórias lineares e cinematográficas, personagens bem definidos e um foco narrativo que coloca o jogador como espectador de uma grande saga. Jogos como "Final Fantasy", "Dragon Quest",  "Chrono Trigger" e "Persona" moldaram essa tradição, com narrativas emocionais, heróis arquetípicos e mundos fantasiosos.Já os RPGs ocidentais nasceram de uma vertente mais próxima dos jogos de mesa, prezando por liberdade de escolha e construção de personagem. O jogador não interpreta um herói pré-determinado, mas cria o seu próprio avatar e molda a história com decisões morais e éticas. Séries como "The Witcher", "The Elder Scrolls", "Fallout", "Baldur's Gate" e "Mass Effect" são exemplos emblemáticos dessa abordagem, em que o mundo reage às ações do jogador, e cada jornada é única. O foco aqui está menos em uma trama fixa e mais em imersão e agência, transformando a narrativa em algo emergente, construído dinamicamente.Nos últimos anos, entretanto, essas fronteiras vêm se misturando. Jogos como "Persona 5" adotam elementos sociais e liberdade de escolhas típicos do Ocidente, enquanto "The Witcher 3" e "Cyberpunk 2077" apresentam tramas fortes e personagens profundos, à maneira japonesa.
