ElectroCosplay joins from New York to talk about some of her favorite fantastical fandoms, plus we're talking about Cosplay too! We start things off by talking about one of the biggest fantasy video games series, Elder Scrolls. Electro and I talk about how she got into the Elder Scrolls series, and we bounce around between talking about Skyrim, Elder Scrolls Online, and how she incorporates Elder Scrolls themes and idea into her real life decorating for her home. Plus, there is a request for Elder Scrolls 6 (take note Bethesda!) From there, Electro and I talk about George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series, and its television counterparts, Game of Thrones. We talk about how she first got into ASOIAF, her thoughts on the books and a particular thought about just where the final books may be. We also talk about The Game of Thrones series, plus House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. All through that, we talk about the characters, the stories, and what story she'd love to see done. We then get to Dungeons and Dragons. Electro talks about how she got interested in the game thanks to Baldur's Gate (and fan fiction!). We talk about the kinds of characters she enjoys playing, some of her favorite spells, and what keeps her coming back to slinging dice and creating stories with others. Then we wrap up with Cosplay. She talks about how she got started with zero skills and how she built her skills and repertoire from the ground up. We talk about a number of her cosplay looks, including her Royal Cookie dress and all that went into designing and creating it. Plus we hear some behind the scenes stories about debuting her work at conventions and all that goes into navigating with a huge gown. TCW Podcast Episode 255 - The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind After Arena and Daggerfall's triumphs, Julian LeFay's Battlespire spinoff marked his last hand in the Elder Scrolls universe. Amid conflicts while working on other projects, LeFay left. Ted Peterson had already departed after Daggerfall. This left Bethesda Softworks with none of the original creators for the next Elder Scrolls. Development stalled amid Bethesda turmoil, spawning Redguard which introduced the Pocket Guide to the Empire, an unreliable in-universe narrator that sowed mystery and deep worldbuilding for Tamriel's forged empire. New lead Todd Howard ditched procedural generation for handcrafted openness where everything interacted. Morrowind featured quests like the falling wizard and pantsless Hentus, hiding logical lore amid hundreds of books blending mythology, humor, and misdirection. Morrowind launched on PC and Xbox at a dire hour for Bethesda. It's make-or-break success rescued the studio from probable collapse in a dark time. Hun laatste spel is Horizon: Call to the Mountain, dat in 2023 uitkwam.

Joshua Noel and TJ Blackwell dive headfirst into the world of "in-game literature" on this episode of Systematic Geekology, part of our All Reading Counts initiative. Right off the bat, they highlight the significance of the written word found in beloved gaming franchises, featuring gems like Ansem's Reports from Kingdom Hearts, the cheeky Lusty Argonian Maid from the Elder Scrolls, Frank's poignant notes in The Last of Us, the moral quandary in The Witcher 3's The Lesser Evil, and the thought-provoking Book of Unveiling from Destiny 2. The duo banters back and forth with their signature relaxed vibe, making sure to sprinkle in some laughs while discussing how these pieces of literature enrich the gaming experience. They also remind listeners that purchasing bonus content or All Reading Counts merch directly supports local libraries, so they're not just having a good time; they're also giving back to the community. TCW Podcast Episode 254 - The Elder Scrolls: Arena & Daggerfall Bethesda Softworks, founded in 1985 by Christopher Weaver with sports titles like Gridiron and Wayne Gretzky Hockey along with licenses like The Terminator, pivoted to RPGs. Demo scene legend Julian LeFay hired Vijay Lakshman as designer and buffer to management so LeFay could focus on games. Together they birthed The Elder Scrolls: Arena, a gladiator combat simulator that morphed, nine months into a 13-month development cycle, into a first-person 3D epic inspired by Ultima Underworld. Arena evolved from a combat management game to a full RPG with a procedurally generated world, unique races like Argonians and Khajiit, and a plot to topple the wizard Tharn. With the second game, LeFay, challenged by Sandy Petersen's claim that CRPGs could never match tabletop RPGs, made Daggerfall a massive world the size of Great Britain: 15,000 cities, towns, and dungeons; 44 regions; 100 factions; skill leveling based on what players actually did; and reputation grinds to unlock quests and plot. Ted Peterson, who took over lead design after Lakshman left, wove a complex plot with gray themes, diverse motivations, and moral quandaries into a simulator packed with layered systems rather than pure RPG simplicity. It sold out the initial run, hit 700,000 units, and became Bethesda's best game yet, bringing fresh air to a fallow RPG era! The rebranding of Games Workshop’s paint line is happening. Citadel Colour is being phased out and renamed Warhammer Colour. This change is purely for brand alignment, particularly to aid newcomers, as the paint formulas—including Base, Layers, Shades, Technical, and Contrast paints—and pot sizes will remain exactly the same, only with updated branding appearing in stores over the coming months. Wolfenstein TTRPG (Tabletop Roleplaying Game) is coming from Modiphius. The game will adapt the popular video game IP, specifically focusing on the storylines from Wolfenstein: The New Order and Wolfenstein: The New Colossus. Modiphius, which has a pre-existing relationship with Bethesda for Fallout and Elder Scrolls games, will utilize its 2d20 system for the RPG. The crowdfunding campaign for the game is set to launch on GameFound in Fall 2026, with a sign-up page available for interested parties to follow. HATE is based on the Chronicles of Hate, a dark fantasy graphic novel series by artist Adrian Smith, known for its intense and visceral artwork. The miniatures being promoted originate from the iconic HATE Board Game, which is centered on brutal combat and conquest. The files are being produced by TitanForge and will be available as STL files. LowLife is the long-awaited TTRPG based on the DUNGEON DEGENERATES board game, designed to allow players to delve deeper into the degeneracy and world of Würstreich than the board game permits. Sean Aaberg, the creator, describes it as a “chaotic narrative experience” and an “RPG for people who hate the ‘noble hero’ tropes.” The creator aims to make LowLife their most successful Kickstarter yet, encouraging readers to share the sign-up page and promote the project, which has been in development for decades. The project is described as Grand Theft Auto meets Game of Thrones, and a preview PRIMER E-ZINE with sneak peeks at the character sheet, hex map, and monsters is exclusively available for sign-ups. #citadelpaints #wolfensteinrpg #HATE #lowliferpg GM Day Sale on DTRPG: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/ja/featured_promotions?promotion_id=26_GMDay_RPG?affiliate_id=2081746 Dfinitive HATE on MyMiniFactory: https://www.myminifactory.com/frontier/hate-the-definitive-miniature-collection-5301 GM's Day on DTRPG: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/ja/featured_promotions?promotion_id=26_GMDay_RPG Sean Aaberg's Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/cw/seanaaberg Low Life Sign Up: https://www.dungeondegenerates.com/ Dragonbane Trudvang: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1192053011/dragonbane-trudvang-the-legend-returns Fallout MEGA Bundle: https://humblebundleinc.sjv.io/L0aArV Warmachine on MyMiniFactory: https://mmf.io/upturned Mantic Companion App: https://companion.manticgames.com/ Use our Referral code: MCTXEE Support us by Shopping at Miniature Market (afilliate link): https://miniature-market.sjv.io/K0yj7n Support Us by Shopping on DTRPG (afilliate link): https://www.drivethrurpg.com?affiliate_id=2081746 Matt’s DriveThruRPG Publications: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/browse.php?author=Matthew%20Robinson https://substack.com/@matthewrobinson3 Chris on social media: https://hyvemynd.itch.io/ Jeremy's Links: http://www.abusecartoons.com/ http://www.rcharvey.com Support Us on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/upturnedtable Give us a tip on our livestream: https://streamlabs.com/upturnedtabletop/tip Donate or give us a tip on Paypal: https://www.paypal.com/ncp/payment/2754JZFW2QZU4 Intro song is “Chips” by KokoroNoMe https://kokoronome.bandcamp.com

Xbox says it's a “Return to Xbox.” But what does that actually mean? This week we break down Asha Sharma's first interview as Xbox leadership shifts — and whether the brand is facing an identity crisis. We discuss: Hardware vs ecosystem strategy What “form factor” could mean next-gen Exclusivity confusion across Xbox and PlayStation Bluepoint pitching a Bloodborne remake — and Sony saying no Resident Evil Requiem's massive review scores Whether anyone in gaming actually knows where hardware is headed If Xbox owns Call of Duty, Diablo, Fallout and Elder Scrolls… why doesn't it feel like Xbox?

A week after the Super Bowl and we finally got The Mandalorian and Grogu trailer, took long enough. Also Warner Bros seems to finally relent and gives Paramount 7 days to try again. If the Simpsons ever ends, which is probably more likely than you think, it wont spend time on a grand finale. PlayStation held a state of play last week, and it was heavy on Kratos, plus if you are waiting on a steam deck, blame AI.
In today's Daily Fix:First-party PlayStation support studio Bluepoint Games has been shuttered by Sony. The studio most notably developed the remakes of Shadow of the Colossus and Demon's Souls, both of which were well-received. They also assisted in several game collections such as the Metal Gear Solid HD collection, Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, and others. Bluepoint was acquired by Sony in 2021 and assisted in the development of God of War Ragnarök. In other news, Bethesda director Todd Howard teased a return to "classic style" Bethesda in Elder Scrolls 6, and giving examples of exploration done in games like Fallout 3 and 4, Skyrim, and others. And finally, Kratos voice actor Christopher Judge has teased something God of War related for "late summer."

Welcome to Dev Game Club, where this week we continue our series on 1985's Ultima IV. We talk a lot about the mysterious sense of the game, the talking interface and mechanics, and dive a bit into combat before turning to reader mail. Dev Game Club looks at classic video games and plays through them over several episodes, providing commentary. Sections played: Another number of hours Issues covered: missing out on talking to someone, sleeping sprites, having a talk prompt and fallbacks, having generic topics per town, putting together with nouns and verbs, adding to world-building, introducing riddles and puzzles, having a sense of what's going on under the hood, exploring through talking, the technical implementation issues, the letter limits, likely implementation details, iterating on a design, fast travel, the many eights, explaining the moon gates, fleeing a boat, the ways you can pause the game, how the moon states work, the persistence of the world, the long table, more arguments for the persistence of the world, getting into combat, the zoomed in battlefield, strategizing around leveling up characters, readying/switching weapons, anticipating dungeon combat, the combat soundscape and understanding the battle, using every key on the keyboard, how many monsters there are, leveling combat, leveling up by talking with Lord British, non-linear XP table, reinforcing the relationship with both Lord British and Richard Garriott, having the cycle of leveling up, the surprise of discovering Magincia, a question of controllers, swapping between screens, distinctions between different Pikmin games, our favorite Pikmin types, charity unlocks, capybara attacks. Games, people, and influences mentioned or discussed: Sierra, King's Quest (series), LucasArts, Dungeons & Dragons, Larian, Baldur's Gate (series), Eye of the Beholder, The Outer Wilds, Her Story, Sam Barlow, Deadly Premonition, Ultima Underworld, Final Fantasy Tactics, The Elder Scrolls (series), Serious Sam, Richard Garriott, Ultima Online, Darren Johnson, Star Wars (obliquely), Pikmin, Dark Souls, Missile Command, MysteryDip, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, Calamity Nolan, Virtual Boy, Okami, The Simpons (obliquely), Asher, FSSZilla, Cuphead, Hitman, Metal Gear Solid, Dwarf Fortress, Kirk Hamilton, Aaron Evers, Mark Garcia.
Phil Salvador hosts a discussion with Dr. Wendi Sierra, author of Todd Howard: World Building in Tamriel and Beyond, and Emily Higgs Kopin. Dr. Sierra's, associate professor of games studies at Texas Christian University, book follows the career history of the Bethesda Game Studios executive producer and his influence on game design throughout the years. Emily Kopin, head of digital collections strategy at the Swarthmore College Libraries, joins us as our guest expert on the Elder Scrolls franchise to make up for Phil's tragic lack of extended time spent in this expansive universe. Wendi and Emily take Phil through discussions of Howard's impact on world building through micro narratives, challenges of documenting emergent gameplay, importance of scoping research, and the influence of Howard's design philosophy on modern gaming.*This episode has a follow-up bonus episode available to our paid tier Patreon members. You can listen to the Video Game History Hour every other Wednesday on Patreon (one day early at the $5 tier and above), on Spotify, or on our website.See more from Dr. Wendi Sierra:TCU Profile: https://honors.tcu.edu/view/wendi-sierra Recent Publication: Gaming for the seventh generation: Indigenous Futurisms in games See more from Emily Higgs Kopin:Bluesky: @ehkopin.bsky.socialLatest Published Work: American ArchivistSwarthmore Profile: swarthmore.edu Video Game History Foundation:Email: podcast@gamehistory.orgWebsite: gamehistory.orgSupport us on Patreon: /gamehistoryorg
Send us a textHoliday energy hits early as we trade quick life updates, a Punta Cana birthday plan, and the kind of shopping chaos that defines December. A budget TV hunt morphs into a 65‑inch Sony, followed by a full‑body reaction to Costco gridlock and a surprising win at a spotless rural meat market with fair prices and great cuts. We share thoughtful gifts that fit our worlds—Fallout mugs for the morning ritual and an Elder Scrolls official cookbook that turns Tamriel into spices, breads, and desserts worth trying at home—then plot a brisket and chicken smoke that anchors the week. The conversation turns to soundtracks for the season and why some traditions faded. We make a passionate case for Boyz II Men's Let It Snow—warm harmonies, timeless romance, and replay value well past December—and ask why R&B Christmas albums vanished when they once defined winter mood. That leads into the year's biggest gaming tension: an acclaimed indie used AI for parts of its production, patched it out quickly, then saw awards pulled. We weigh the ethics and the future: should AI‑assisted categories exist, or would that legitimize a shortcut? Craft still matters, and audiences can tell when heart leads. We also dig into Bethesda buzz: real movement on the next Elder Scrolls and rumors that the Fallout TV series could become canon in Fallout 5. That sparks curiosity and caution—transmedia can deepen a universe or tangle it. To help you win the season, we wrap with a clean, practical gift guide: USB‑C cables, surge protectors, RGB lighting, handheld accessories, U3 microSD cards, and digital gift cards for Steam or Game Pass during the big sales. The final note is simple but urgent: appreciate the people near you. Take the photo, make the call, share the meal. If this conversation made you smile or think, tap follow, share it with a friend, and leave a quick review—what's your bold holiday take? https://www.carolinaotakus.com/
