Gregory Iron sits down with ECW Original and former WWE Superstar--Tommy Dreamer! Tommy spends some time with Greg chatting about his locker room routines and superstitions -- like how he has not washed his knee pads or wraps in over 20 years -- his biggest fears, his Goldberg-esque winning streak that began in 1989, training with WWE Hall of Famer Johnny Rodz, how Rocky Johnson almost killed his dream before it even began, and his roles behind the scenes over the years. What did he learn in terms of psychology from the likes of Paul Heyman, Mick Foley, Terry Funk, Greg Valentine and Rick Martel? What was it like shutting the lights off on ECW at a house show in 2001? How did Tommy help guys like The Young Bucks and WWE Raw commentator Vic Joseph? What does Tommy think of AEW? And what major video game company approached Tommy and ECW about being one of their launching titles before they took a deal with Akklaim? All this and more will be discussed! Before the interview, Greg and Aaron ring in the new year discussing a Tommy Dreamer clinic that Aaron attended in 2005, advice that Dreamer gave a young EC3, and a Hulk Hogan lie that examines the size differences between Hulk and Terry's "python." --- Gregory Iron wrestles with cerebral palsy, a neurological disorder that affects the mobility of his right arm, hand and fingers. Trained by WWE NXT Superstar Johnny Gargano in 2006, Iron has conquered his disability and gone on to work with some of the top names in wrestling including "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, CM Punk, The Dudley Boyz, Tomasso Ciampa and many others. Co-host Aaron Bauer has worked in the professional wrestling industry for over two decades. A jack-of-all-trades, Aaron has worked in the industry as a local promoter for ECW events, a manager, and has provided color commentary over matches for some of the biggest stars in WWE, WCW, ECW, AEW, Impact & ROH. Pro wrestling is probably the only thing on the planet on par with retro video games when it comes to making me feel nostalgic. Being a teenager during the Monday Night Wars and the Attitude Era was something special. If you liked wrestling in those days (and who didn't?), you know what I'm saying. Combine the Attitude Era with the Playstation and the Nintendo 64, and you have nostalgia overload. Enter WWF Attitude. When people talk wrestling games from the 90's and early 2000's, the instant focus falls on THQ. WCW/nWo Revenge, Wrestlemania 2000, and of course, WWF No Mercy are all absolutely incredible. But before the WWF got in bed with THQ, Akklaim was in charge of bringing Stone Cold and friends into the world of video games. And while WWF Attitude doesn't have anything close to the legacy WWF No Mercy (or even SmackDown does), it doesn't deserve to be overlooked like it usually is. A lot of features that are common place in wrestling games today began with WWF Attitude. Things like super deep rosters, in depth create a wrestler, and even the ability to create an event all started with this game. While the THQ titles were taking the game in an "easy to approach and simple to control" direction, Akklaim focused on trying to make their wrestling games a more complicated, simulation type of experience. And while it's easy to look back on some of their decisions and laugh - and believe me, we do on the podcast this week - I think the powers that be behind this game deserve a little bit of credit for trying something different. It may not have worked all that well, but they helped lay the groundwork for what wrestling games would become. My guest this week is fellow wrestling nerd and podcast host Kyle Shaw, and we had a great time sharing stories about not only playing video games, but watching wrestling as well. Enjoy the podcast!
