In this week's Interview Classic podcasts, we're jumping back to two interviews - one from Paul Heyman and another from Bob Roop.Ten years ago this week, we published a PWTorch editor Wade Keller's interview with Paul Heyman from 1992 that aired live on his KFAN Pro Wrestling Focus radio show. In this interview, Heyman predicts super-stardom for Steve Austin and explains why he never paid for a wrestling ticket. This show also includes news coverage at the start of the and live callers. Then we present the Dec. 2, 2015 episode of the PWTorch Livecast when Pat McNeill interviewed Bob Roop, a territory veteran wrestler who reacted to Raw from earlier in the week, his thoughts on the terms "jobber" and "enhancement talent," who was the most over-pushed wrestler in WCW, the Authority taking up so much TV time, WWE asking which other TV shows fans watch, Charlotte mentioning the death or Reid on the air, and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/wade-keller-pro-wrestling-podcast--3076978/support.
Shot of Nostalgia: The SmackDown Six Era continues with your host Acefield Retro as we revisit the stretch where SmackDown quietly became the best wrestling show in the world. Episode 4: The Golden Age of Tag Team Wrestling covers November 2002 through January 2003, the period when Paul Heyman's system reached perfect balance. Every story connected, every match mattered, and SmackDown had evolved into a complete wrestling ecosystem that thrived on craft, chemistry, and trust. It begins on the November 7 episode of SmackDown when Edge and Rey Mysterio finally defeated Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit in a two out of three falls match for the WWE Tag Team Titles. The match ran twenty four minutes and delivered a level of teamwork and precision that elevated the entire division. Just ten days later at Survivor Series 2002, Los Guerreros seized the spotlight by outsmarting both teams in one of the most celebrated triple threat tag matches of the decade. Their victory represented everything that made this era special. Eddie and Chavo's mix of wit, charisma, and timing made them the emotional center of SmackDown. This week's episode includes a special watch along of that match as we relive every moment of how they captured gold and redefined tag team storytelling. From there the show only gained momentum. On December 5, Angle, Benoit, Edge, and Eddie Guerrero met in a fatal four way elimination match that tied every rivalry together and showed how deeply Heyman's creative system was working. By the end of December, Team Angle had arrived. Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin debuted on December 26 as Kurt Angle's chosen proteges, a pair of amateur wrestling standouts who brought a new layer of technical excellence to the brand. That arrival carried the SmackDown philosophy into the next year. The run reached its peak in January when Benoit and Edge faced Team Angle and Kurt, leading directly into the Royal Rumble 2003 where Kurt Angle defended the WWE Championship against Chris Benoit in a match that remains one of the most respected in company history. We also look at the wider picture through the Wrestling Observer newsletters from late 2002 that captured just how different SmackDown's approach was compared to Raw. While Raw was relying on shock segments that turned viewers away, SmackDown was earning loyalty through clarity and consistency. The Observer also documented the behind the scenes chaos surrounding Hulk Hogan's negotiations with Vince McMahon. Hogan had been planned to return for Survivor Series against Brock Lesnar but refused to lose to him again. The standoff left Lesnar without his expected opponent and forced creative to shift focus, which in turn gave SmackDown's tag division more room to shine. It was the kind of unintended consequence that helped the blue brand rise even higher. Fans made their preference clear. Ratings climbed, crowd reactions intensified, and SmackDown became the heartbeat of WWE's weekly television. By early 2003, SmackDown was not competing with Raw anymore. It had become its own force. Every match carried meaning, every performer felt essential, and every story flowed naturally. This was the golden age of tag team wrestling, a time when structure, emotion, and athletic storytelling defined an entire generation of WWE television. The DeLorean's still parked under the blue lights — and in Episode 2 of Shot of Nostalgia: Season 7 – The SmackDown Six Era, we're stepping into the stretch where SmackDown built its identity. Acefield Retro breaks down Blueprint of Greatness, when Paul Heyman's creative direction started to take form. By late 2002, Raw leaned on promos and spectacle, while SmackDown focused on matches that told stories and defined characters. This episode features a watch-along of Edge vs. Eddie Guerrero (No DQ, 9/26/02) — a match that shows exactly how the SmackDown Six style came to life: physical, precise, and built on timing and trust. Also covered: • Angle vs. Mysterio at SummerSlam 2002 — A showcase of what WWE's new in-ring standard could be. • Angle & Benoit vs. Edge & Rey (8/29 SmackDown) — The match that revealed the SmackDown Six chemistry. • Los Guerreros form as a team — Eddie and Chavo add humor, arrogance, and cohesion to the division. • Tag Team Championship Tournament announcement — The moment Heyman's structure became official. By September, SmackDown wasn't trying to compete with Raw — it had its own rhythm, purpose, and storytelling approach. Presented by The Turnbuckle Tavern, where nostalgia meets conversation. What if it wasn't the massive accomplishments or big milestones that positively impacted your life the most? What if it was the way you overcame all the unexpected challenges along the way? That's exactly what my coaching client, and today's podcast guest, Minda Heyman, discovered when I asked her this question. From finding out she was neurodivergent in her 40s to being unexpectedly laid off, Minda realized those challenging moments were actually the ones that transformed her life the most — becoming powerful catalysts for growth, resilience and stepping into her power. If you're ready to stop seeing your challenges as failures — and start recognizing them as proof of your strength and greatness — this conversation is for you.IN THIS EPISODE WE TALK ABOUT:How to reframe life's unexpected challenges as powerful turning points for growth. What happens when you stop trying to “fit in” and start honoring your unique rhythm, needs, and truth. Why doing it all on your own might be blocking the very support and ease you've been craving.Learning to love the parts of yourself you once judged, and why self-compassion is the foundation for true connection.Seeing your life as a living garden — one you can tend, celebrate, and grow with every season.

Aren't boom periods usually a result of an influx of new wrestlers, including at the top of cards? Is there a market for a major UK promotion? Did the hosts on Dragons Den miss out on an investment opportunity?Wasn't there a stretch a few years ago when Sami Zayn seemed washed up in the ring or at least dialing it down? Now he seems back at a top level, right?Choose sides in these rivals' spats with each other:Vince Russo – Eric BischoffBret Hart – Bill GoldbergRic Flair – Mick FoleyVince McMahon – NailzTito Ortiz – Dana WhiteShould the Paul Heyman group add a third wrestler now that Seth Rollins is out?Thoughts on the next wave of “freak show” boxing matches: Tank Davis vs. Jake Paul and Mike Tyson vs. Floyd Mayweather? We took a week off from the main show, and you know what that means: We're keeping you busy with some older Between the Sheets Patreon content that we've now made available for free. This time, we decided to assemble the entire “FUCK SABU!” trilogy (originally Patreon episodes #43-#45), covering Sabu's wild 1995, into one file for everyone to check out as a taste of what our Patreon-only deep dives are like. This is a great example, too, as we notice some very interesting things that the newsletters didn't pick up on at the time, like Chris Benoit's surprisingly obvious involvement in orchestrating the whole scenario.Want more content like this? Then sign up for the $5.00/month ($50.40/year if paid annually upfront) tier on our Patreon page and check out the back catalog that spans almost 9 years. This month, for August, the deep dive that we've started on is more 1995 content, covering Bill Watts' brief stint booking the WWF. Also, don't forget: From this point forward, regardless of if we're doing a month-long deep-dive or a smattering of smaller topics, we now release weekly Patreon content, with the segments of the month-long deep dives getting dropped each week as we record them.Anyway, we hope you enjoy these shows, and now, here are the original show descriptions:Part 1:Since April is the 25th anniversary of Sabu being fired from ECW, we decided it was the perfect opportunity to take a deep dive looking at everything that happened surrounding that very memorable event. So that brings us to this month's special, part one of what should be at least two episodes looking at Sabu's 1995, from his signing with NJPW to his indie schedule to his troubles with ECW, climaxing with Sabu double booking himself the night of ECW's big Three-Way Dance card. How did Sabu end up booked in NJPW the same night as the ECW show on late notice, why didn't he just cancel one of the bookings, and how did the situation devolve from there? We look at all of this in-depth, as it was covered in the newsletters, where both Sabu and Paul Heyman were commenting in detail on the record. All that and much more, including Chris Benoit's apparent major role in the Sabu/ECW schism, the greatness of Murder Inc./Wolf Army in 1995 NJPW, Sabu getting maced while doing a run-in for Circle City Wrestling, Chris Zavisa as Sabu's house organ, the proliferation of "Best of Sabu" videotapes, the reemergence of Dennis Coralluzzo in Sabu's career, and much more. This is a GREAT show, with a *lot* of fascinating stuff that's never talked about. Here's looking forward to part two!Part 2:We're back to pick up where we left off in our journey through Sabu's 1995, starting a few weeks after his firing from ECW over the "FUCK SABU!" no-show, as he starts talking to WCW and wins the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship from Koji Kanemoto at the Fukuoka Dome. Things quickly take a turn, though, as Sabu *throws down the title while cutting a promo about how he's a heavyweight*, NJPW tries to pretend it never happened, Sabu drops the belt at the next major show, Sabu becomes one of the anchors of Kevin Sullivan's plan to build "two WCWs" for the Monday Nitro launch, and much more happens as we close out the show just before Nitro launches. But the real meat of this show is in the forgotten Observer report, in black and white and plain English, that Sabu and Paul Heyman came to a secret agreement on an ECW return months before the actual return happened, and how Taz must have been privy to it given his career prospects at the time. All that and much more on another fascinating chapter in the "FUCK SABU!" saga!Part 3:We're back to pick up where we left off in our journey through Sabu's 1995, finishing up the series as we cover the launch of WCW Monday Nitro through the release of the 1995 Wrestling Observer Newsletter Awards in January 1996. Topics include how quickly Sabu's WCW run fell apart, the strange six month gap where Sabu stops teaming with the rest of Masahiro Chono's Okami Gundan/Murder Inc. stable in NJPW, Sabu scrambling for ideas to make him a pushed heavyweight in WCW like bringing in The Sheik's old United States Championship belt, The Sheik becoming Sabu's agent, Sabu returning to Dennis Coralluzzo's NWA New Jersey, Sabu becoming a transitional UWA World Junior Light Heavyweight Champion, Konnan trying to court Sabu for AAA, Sabu returning to ECW the same day he worked for Dennis, a labyrinthian web of conflicting stories from Sabu and Heyman about how they worked out the return, Sabu “officially” being fired from WCW on their hotline, the WWF's efforts to get Sabu for the 1996 Royal Rumble, and MUCH more. This is a fantastic end to the series and we hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed recording it.Timestamps:0:09:00 December 1994-January 19950:40:11 February-March 19951:09:52 Week of April 3 & Week of April 10, 19952:04:29 Week of April 17, 19952:27:03 April-May 19953:14:04 June 19953:33:51 July 19954:02:51 August 19954:36:30 September 19955:19:37 October 19955:55:23 November 19956:43:38 December 1995 and beyondTo support the show and get access to exclusive rewards like special members-only monthly themed shows, go to our Patreon page at Patreon.com/BetweenTheSheets and become an ongoing Patron. Kevin Nash has told a lot of wild road stories over the years, but this week may have topped them all. What started as a trip to say goodbye to Hulk Hogan turned into one of the most chaotic, uncomfortable, and unintentionally hilarious travel days of his life. From Florida traffic hell to an unplanned wardrobe change to an ending no one saw coming, Big Sexy pulls back the curtain in a way only he can. Along the way, Kevin and Sean dig into the strange intersections between wrestling and unexpected celebrity circles, from high-end Italian restaurants to Broadway theaters. It's a look at the places wrestling fandom turns up that might surprise you… and how those chance encounters can open the oddest of doors. SummerSlam gets a full post-mortem, including Cena's latest evolution, Punk's performance, Rollins' resilience, and a few production choices that drove Kevin nuts. The conversation doesn't stop there, touching on Jade Cargill's future, Braun Breakker's role in Heyman's faction, and what could be coming next for WWE's biggest storylines. There's also talk of billion-dollar business moves, cruise ship horror stories, and why sometimes the “safest” plan in wrestling production is simply putting a roof over the venue. As always, Kevin weaves personal anecdotes with sharp insight, keeping one foot in the locker room and the other firmly planted in the real world. By the time the episode wraps, you'll have laughed, cringed, and maybe learned a few things you didn't know about road survival, wrestling politics, and human nature. And yes, the legendary “PissPants” tale will be burned into your brain forever.
