Road Trip After Hours w/ WWE Hall of Famer Teddy Long and Host Mac Davis
Big Vito doesn't just tell wrestling stories, he tells them like a guy who lived every mile of the road and still protects the business. We sit down with Vito alongside WWE Hall of Famer Teddy Long and dig into the moments fans still argue about: the infamous dress gimmick, the reality of “passing the test” in a locker room, and why kayfabe only works when you commit with your whole body and your whole voice. If you care about wrestling psychology, heel work, and how character turns into real crowd control, this one hits fast.We also get into why Vito's current JCW run has people calling it the best work of his career. He breaks down how he builds heat, how he thinks about promos and facials, and why a veteran's real job is to elevate everyone around him, not just win segments. From there, the conversation opens up into family history, including the Lucky Luciano connection, plus what Johnny Rodz taught him about toughness, conditioning, and never showing weakness. Then it's pure locker room gold: ECW memories, working with Rob Van Dam, WCW highlights, a Terry Funk moment Vito says he'll never forget, and even the “work or shoot” Vegas confrontation that had fans split. We wrap with updates on The Don's Final Offer, new merch, an upcoming action figure, and a few final thoughts that only come from decades in the ring.Subscribe for more conversations like this, share the episode with a wrestling fan who loves the old stories, and leave us a review with your favorite Big Vito moment.Send us Fan Mail
New new free shows will be back very soon, but remember that we've been back doing weekly content on our Patreon page for a while during the free show hiatus, covering the Jerry Lawler/Stacy Carter 2001 WWE departure and eventual divorce, the WWE Network launch, and the "Clique Curtain Call." We're also starting an in-depth series on TNA getting cancelled by Spike TV and Destination America this week, which promises to be epic. In the meantime, though, here's the unreleased episode from three months ago. Will episode #544 ever be fully re-edited and re-released? We don't know. But enjoy episode #545, which is new to everyone!Kris and David (from three months ago) are back (three months ago) as we discuss the week that was February 28-March 6, 1989. Topics of discussion include:The possibility of state athletic commissions getting more involved with regulation of pro wrestling thanks to Vince McMahon testifying that they were "sports entertainment" in New Jersey.Ric Flair re-upping his contract with the NWA for three more years as the promotion is undergoing a major overhaul in every way, but not necessarily in the most positive ways.Talk of the NWA's TV product needing major changes, especially in production and overall quality.Giant Baba's questionable booking of Ricky Steamboat when he comes over as the NWA World Heavyweight Champion, as well as the original plans for the NWA Champion on this tour.A great look at Stampede Wrestling from this time period, with Ed Whalen and Bulldog Bob Brown on commentary, Brown getting involved way too much, the "retirement" of Dynamite Kid, and the greatness of Lethal Larry Cameron.Invader #1 returning to action in WWC after being acquitted on all charges in the Bruiser Brody murder case.Terry Funk's insane promo from FCW TV.Bill Dundee taking over the book in Continental and Steve Beverly shares his thoughts on what needs to be done better in that territory.Lance Russell's final TV show on WMC before leaving for the NWA…sort of, because it doesn't actually feature Lance, and we explain why that happened. The same show also featuring the debut of Ronnie P. Gossett, who causes lots of chaos before he meets Jerry Lawler.Eric Embry finding a way to get back in a World Class ring at the expense of referee Harold T. The energy in Winnipeg was nothing short of electric this week as the prodigal son of Manitoba finally made his way back to the squared circle. Last night's Dynamite and tonight's special Thursday edition of Collision served as a double-barreled reminder that the landscape of All Elite Wrestling is shifting faster than we can keep up. Whether you caught the stream live or you are listening to the podcast on your morning commute, we have a massive amount of ground to cover.Dynamite Review: The Lionheart in WinnipegThe headline of the night was undoubtedly Chris Jericho. Opening the show in his hometown, the “Lionheart” declared that Winnipeg is officially AEW's home. We spent a lot of time debating his new trademark, “The Cornerstone,” and whether this version of Jericho is leaning into a delusional heel persona or a respected veteran role. The rest of Dynamite was packed with high-stakes moments:* The Contract Signing: MJF and Kenny Omega finally put pen to paper for their Dynasty clash. The tension was palpable, though Omega's dig at MJF's hair plugs was the moment that had everyone talking.* The Aerial Assassin vs. The B*****d: Will Ospreay and PAC delivered an absolute “Match of the Year” contender. Ospreay secured the victory, but the post-match beatdown by the Death Riders left us wondering if he will be 100% for Moxley.* Speedball's Stand: MJF proved his technical dominance by defeating Speedball Mike Bailey in a clean, grueling main event.Collision Highlights: Shida, Syndicates, and Shoving MatchesTonight's special Thursday Collision was just as impactful. We saw the return of Hikaru Shida, who took Willow Nightingale to the limit in a TBS Title challenge. However, the post-match frustration from Shida suggests a much darker path ahead for the former champion. We also broke down:* Hurt Syndicate Expansion: MVP and Bobby Lashley are looking to grow the roster. We brainstormed potential recruits, with names like Keith Lee and Queen Aminata topping our list of “must-haves.”* FTR vs. The Icons: Adam Copeland and Christian Cage are officially hunting FTR. The backstage brawls and the involvement of Stokely Hathaway have made this rivalry one of the most intense stories on the road to Dynasty.* Juice Robinson's New Look: We have some feelings about Juice ditching the “Rockstar” persona for plain black gear; we are officially on “Juice Watch” to see if the charisma returns with the wardrobe. The Way Back: April 7, 2021For our flashback segment this week, we took a trip to the pandemic era at Daily's Place. It was the night the Young Bucks officially turned heel on John Moxley, but more importantly, it was the night they wrestled in $10,000 Dior Air Jordan 1s. It was the peak of “arrogant wealthy behavior,” and it set the stage for the EVP era we are still living through today.Show Notes and Timestamps:* [00:15] Intro and the return of Judas to Winnipeg.* [01:13] Tom's Book List: Stoner, On Tyranny, and the Constitution.* [05:55] Remote work fashion: Chiefs, Royals, and Terry Funk.* [08:45] Dynamite Breakdown: Chris Jericho's homecoming pop.* [16:50] The Cornerstone: Analyzing Jericho's new trademark and heel potential.* [22:20] Contract Tension: MJF vs. Kenny Omega and the hair plug comments.* [27:15] Ricochet's “Demand”: Why he might be the best promo in the industry right now.* [37:30] Match of the Year: Will Ospreay vs. PAC breakdown.* [45:45] Moxley's Mercy: The Death Riders and the Continental Title rules.* [52:55] The Unraveling: Darby Allin's psychological warfare with MJF.* [59:35] Collision Review: Willow Nightingale vs. Hikaru Shida.* [01:02:50] Hurt Syndicate: Who is the next recruit for Bobby Lashley and MVP?* [01:06:20] Juice Robinson: Why the plain black gear is a “Creator-a-Wrestler” disaster.* [01:09:20] Isaiah Kassidy: The emergence of a solo star.* [01:15:15] Missing in Action: Where is Eddie Kingston?* [01:21:50] The Way Back: The $10,000 sneaker superkick of 2021.FOLLOW US:Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/www.allelitewrapup.comWebsite: https://www.allelitewrapup.comMusic from #Uppbeat (free for Creators!):https://uppbeat.io/t/aavirall/gravityLicense code: FUEBS0UI2NFZPDE4 This is a public episode. William Muldoon got about a 25-year head start on Frank Gotch's gimmick of returning from 'retirement' multiple times and about a 100-year head start on Terry Funk. William Muldoon had begun suffering from nagging hand and arm injuries and a severe downturn in the popularity of pro wrestling, especially French Greco-Roman style of which he was the dominate master. Evan 'Strangler' Lewis and the rise of Catch-as-Catch-Can wrestling was beginning to dominate the scene. All the ingredients are starting to set the stage for the coming of Frank Gotch. Martin 'Farmer' Burns is now on the scene and soon Tom Jenkins will be as well. Jack Carkeek gets in legal trouble and will become no stranger to it. YOU CONTROL THIS SERIES! It will only run as long as it is supported. In order to get another hour of 1000 hours we need a new Patreon supporter at any level or a cash donation via the front page of WhenItWasCool.com to either PayPal or CashApp (Please put "1000" in the note). Dive into the ultimate illusion of entertainment on The Other Side of Midnight with Lionel. In this episode, Lionel tears down the facade of show business, exploring Hollywood's historical influence and its looming decline as the Oscars fight desperately to stay relevant against the rise of YouTube and AI. From the infamous lip-syncing scandals of Milli Vanilli to the secretly dubbed voices of classic cinema, Lionel and his crew question the ethics of authenticity and whether fans even care if legends like Barbra Streisand sing live. Finally, trade the Hollywood red carpet for the professional wrestling ring with gritty, bone-crunching behind-the-scenes tales. Featuring legendary stories of Mick Foley's terrifying Hell in a Cell fall and Terry Funk's brutal injuries, this episode proves that the "fake" sport of wrestling is often far more dangerous than reality. Episode 101 is here pals! It's a "Match of the Week" 'Triple-Header' time (this time in more of a bite-sized format) w/ my super loyal pal who supports all of my hair-brained Wrasslin'-Art schemes, Joe! We are chatting 3 bloody lovely matches that we watched together at one of our Wrestling Club at The Scratch events - running the gambit from Lucha to some FMW Terry Funk wildin'! Thanks as always Joe for a super-fun nerd-out!In my 'World of Chris-Things' intro monologue I talk starting to map out 2026 & a mind-blowingly great CULT-LUCHA classic Lucha Libre monster movie night event debut this past Sunday at Netherworld with my tag-team partner in crime, Trash Video's Andrew Leavold.
