Two retirees can have the same age, the same nest egg, and the same monthly expenses. Give them the exact same retirement income plan, and one may feel completely comfortable while the other loses sleep the moment markets fall. That's because retirement income planning involves more than math. It also depends on how much certainty you want, how much flexibility you're willing to give up, and which risks you're comfortable carrying yourself. In this episode, I'm breaking down a practical framework that organizes nearly every retirement income strategy into four distinct styles. Here's what you'll learn: → The 2 questions that shape nearly every retirement income decision → The strengths and tradeoffs behind the 4 most common retirement income strategies → A simple 3-step process for building a plan around your own priorities There may not be one "best" retirement income strategy for everyone. But understanding the tradeoffs can help you build a plan you have the confidence to follow through market declines, changing spending needs, and decades of retirement. ***
A bonus Talk Birdie To Me Mini today, which comes following a question from wolfpacker Dave who wrote:Hi Nick and Mark, Watching the Wyndham Championship, I noticed Tony Finau putting one-handed. Apparently he struggles with short putts and he tried it based on Tiger's well-known one-handed practice drills. He made the cut so I guess it worked! I thought it might make a good discussion - weirdest putting styles of Tour Pros. Here's one for starters: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSd0a2NjftkLove the pod! Thanks, Dave.So we decided to kick it around on the show. And oh boy there were plenty!Golfers we talk about: Bernhard Langer, Chris DiMarco, Sammy Snead, Bobby Locke. We also discuss the proliferation for a while there of Broomsticks, and of the Claw, and the 'Matt Kuchar' putting technique.Other players: Isao Aoki, Vijay Singh, the great man Jack Nicklaus, Paul Runyan, Retief Goosen, Robert Garrigus, and Raymond Floyd. And we wrap this Mini with a couple of fun things. Nick and Mark each choose the putting technique that they would have, if they could choose anyones, and have that for the rest of their life. And Nick tells us what it was like playing with the legendary Ben Crenshaw!!Happy Monday! We're live from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Hostplus, Talk Birdie To Me's official retirement partnerBMW, luxury and comfort for the 19th hole;Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;Golf Clearance Outlet, they beat everyone's prices;Betr, the fastest and easiest betting app in Australia; The Find My Player app - follow every player on every tour; And Southern Golf Club. The guys give their take on the Avery Styles situation after an indie wrestler expressed frustration that Styles didn't help tear down the ring after a GCW show. Was the wrestler justified, or does Styles' name sell enough tickets to excuse him from post-show ring work? They also discuss CM Punk being added to NXT house shows and how his early career parallels what talent is doing on these smaller events. Plus, there is a new Uce as Zilla Fatu debuts on NXT this week. How long will it be before he becomes involved with The Bloodline? As AEW All In approaches and attendance continues to grow, the hosts run down the full card. They also cover Swerve Strickland's return on Dynamite and speculate on whether it could lead to The New Day appearing at All In. Finally, they touch on a potential Vince McMahon return, Bayley's contract status, listener questions, and much more!

Confessions of a Freebird - Midlife, Divorce, Dating, Empty Nest, Well-Being, Mindset, Happiness
What if joy wasn't something you had to wait for — but something you could actually adopt into your life?If you're rebuilding after divorce or navigating a recent loss and are quietly wondering whether you're allowed to feel good again while you're still grieving — this episode is for you. Most of us treat grief and joy as opposites, as if one has to end before the other can begin. My guest today gently dismantles that idea. Her argument is the reverse: your capacity for joy grows in direct proportion to the pain you've allowed yourself to experience. So the question isn't how to get past the grief — it's how to hold both at the same time.My guest is SC Perot. A Stanford Law graduate, Vanderbilt adjunct faculty member, and author of Styles of Joy. After the pandemic, a divorce, and a career shift that dismantled the life she'd planned, SC took a grief sabbatical that led her to 17 Harry Styles concerts across five countries in ten months — and to an entirely new understanding of what joy can look like after loss. In this conversation we explore the identity loss that quietly lives inside divorce grief, why escapism only works when it runs alongside doing the inner work, and the Japanese concept of borrowed views — a practice for turning jealousy into genuine delight in other people's good news. SC also shares her four-part CAPS framework for making joy a skill you build through repetition, and lays out what life after divorce can look like when you stop settling for just okay.In this episode, you'll learn:Why SC says the opposite of joyful is jealousy — and how you can catch envy before it takes holdWhat a grief break is, and how to tell it apart from bypassing your painHow happy music became part of SC's healing journey — and what it means to build a new soundtrack for a new lifeWhy sitting fully inside divorce grief expands your capacity for joyHow the doctrine of borrowed views lets you adopt other people's joy as your ownHow an abundance mindset replaces the scarcity story that someone else's good news means less for youThe 4-part CAPS framework — cultivate, adopt, protect, and spread — and which part trips people up mostHow SC's body told her it was time for a career pivot before her mind caught upWhy collective joy counteracts lonely grief — and where to find it without a concert ticketHow the three circles of connection — intimate, relational, and communal — protect you from loneliness after divorce or anytime.Whether you're deep in divorce recovery or simply carrying more than you expected this season — this conversation offers something rare: a concrete, compassionate path back to more joyful living and feeling like yourself again.Much love and freedom,LaurieFree ResourcesClick here to schedule a FREE inquiry call with me.Click here for my FREE “Beginner's Guide to Somatic Healing”Click here for my FREE Core Values ExerciseConnect with me:Click here to purchase my “Nervous System Regulation Starter Kit” it's $29.99Click here to purchase my book: Sandwiched: A Memoir of Holding On and Letting GoWebsiteInstagramSubstackWant to try somatic work for free? Jayden Daniels, Derrick Henry, Sonny Styles, Dan Quinn and Declan Doyle join the show from Ravens and Commanders training camp. Jayden Daniels breaks down his transition into a new offense, the freedom he has at the line of scrimmage, learning from quarterbacks like Matthew Stafford and Jared Goff, and what he took away from a difficult second season. He also reveals which defender gives him the most pause and names the most bada** player on the Commanders. Then, rookie linebacker Sonny Styles talks about his transition from safety to linebacker, the challenge of defending Jayden Daniels and Marcus Mariota every day, and why Tommy Eichenberg is one of the toughest players he's ever been around. Dan Quinn joins the conversation to discuss Daniels' development, the explosive-play potential of the new offense and what Styles' rare athleticism can bring to Washington's defense. In Baltimore, new offensive coordinator Declan Doyle explains his philosophy of putting pressure on the defense, what he learned from Sean Payton and Ben Johnson, and how he's approaching his first season running the Ravens' offense. Finally, Derrick Henry discusses Baltimore's new offense, the return of value to the running back position, the importance of the run game and why you still have to be able to run the football to win. According to the NeuroAffective Relational Model, chronic shame isn't an emotion, it's actually a strategy. Stephan K. Niederwieser is the co-author of the new book Healing Shame and Guilt.Shame tells us something is wrong with who we are, while guilt tells us something was wrong with what we did. In this brief episode, Luciana Baicea and Adrian Dinu talk with Stephan Niederwieser about why neither one behaves like an emotion: emotions come, tell us something and pass, while shame settles in and stays. He also explains what shame did FOR us: it helped us disconnect from needs, anger and grief that once felt too dangerous to have.Stephan Niederwieser has been in private practice in Berlin since the late 1980s. He initially trained in Hakomi and Somatic Experiencing before moving to the NeuroAffective Relational Model (NARM), which he now teaches internationally. He is the co-author, alongside Laurence Heller, PhD, of Healing Shame and Guilt, recently published in Romanian by Editura Herald. In this episode we briefly explored:Why "toxic shame" is the wrong term, and what "chronic" points to insteadThe five core developmental needs (connection, attunement, trust, autonomy, love and sexuality) and the survival styles that appear when they are not metShame-based identification and its opposite - pride-based counter-identificationDepression as anger that has been pushed down rather than feltWhether an AI companion can offer connection without rupture and repairThe difference between being loved and being admiredResources mentioned in the conversation:Book: Healing Shame and Guilt by Laurence Heller, PhD & Stephan K. When Madonna's new album, “Confessions II,” dropped in early July, it went straight to the top of the Billboard 200 (her 10th No. 1 album). Many of the 16 tracks plumb her own history for lessons learned along the way. On “Bizarre,” the blue Shelby Cobra she gave her first husband, Sean Penn, “wasn't meant to last.” On “The Test,” she tells her daughter Lola Leon, with whom she sings: “I wish I knew the pain I've caused.” And on “Danceteria,” she takes us to the New York City clubs of the 1980s and the moment when a D.J. “played my tape ‘Everybody' ” and launched her career. Wesley Morris describes the album as “post-nostalgia,” with Madonna using an idea of her past as a slingshot into some kind of future. “Confessions II” is also a dance record that reminds us of the impact she has had on club culture and gay culture. Wesley sits down with one of the biggest Madonna fans he knows — Jacob Bernstein, a writer for The Times's Styles section and a former club kid in New York City — to talk about her new record and the immense influence Madonna has had on their lives.
