Ohhhh hell yeah! Strap in and grab a cold one, ‘cause this week's episode of your podcast is diving headfirst into one of the wildest damn nights from the Attitude Era — WWE Raw is War, October 30th, 2000 — and baby, it's an all-out chaos buffet with extra steel cage mayhem. We're talkin' Stone Cold Steve Austin unleashing straight-up Texas Rattlesnake vengeance on Rikishi inside a freakin' steel cage! No rules, no mercy, and definitely no regrets. Rikishi tried to run him down a year ago — now Austin's dishing out the kind of ass-whooping you can feel through your Walkman. Blood, sweat, and middle fingers. Classic Attitude. But wait — things get even weirder (and a little sexy, let's be real) when Commissioner Mick Foley, rockin' that Santa Claus-meets-Jerry Garcia energy, pulls a surprise power move and introduces his brand-new Lt. Commissioner… Debra. Yeah, that Debra. Cookies and cleavage with a badge. The boys in the back better tighten up, ‘cause the new sheriff in town isn't afraid to throw some attitude of her own. Then it's The Rock vs. Chris Jericho in a #1 Contender's match that SLAPS harder than a Stunner. Two icons, one winner — and it's the People's Champ who comes out on top. But just when you think he's headed for glory, here comes Rikishi with a chair, a grudge, and a whole damn confession that shakes the arena.“He told me to do it…”Who told you, Rikishi? WHO?! Oh, you know who. The Rock's once-tight alliance with Rikishi officially goes up in flames like a flaming table at a Dudley Boyz barbecue. This Raw was messy, violent, hilarious, and absolutely unforgettable. Just how we like it. So hit play and let's relive this Monday night madness — because the Attitude Era never died… it just got louder on your podcast.
YOOOO this episode of WWF SmackDown! from October 19, 2000 is straight outta the Attitude Era Hall of Fame!
It's Handicap Match Mania on Smackdown this episode, and we dive into why there were four handicap matches booked on this show. With just under a month to WrestleMania 2000, it was an episode to build heat on the heels. Also on this episode, Bob Backlund and Taz trade submissions, Steve Blackman and Jeff Hardy wow the crowd, Crash Holly escapes out of a laundromat with his title, and Edge spears Lita!Watch this episode on Youtube.Follow Tales from The Attitude Era on all social mediahttp://youtube.com/@TFTAttitudeEra http://twitter.com/TFTAttitudeErahttp://instagram.com/TFTAttitudeErahttp://tiktok.com/@TFTAttitudeEraTommy Blacha made his name in Hollywood as a writer on Conan O'Brien, co-creator of Metalocalypse on Adult Swim, and a writer on shows like The Eric Andre Show and Da Ali G Show. Buckle up, 'cause Raw is WAR and the drama is PEAKING, baby! This week's episode is a chaotic slice of Attitude Era gold that only the year 2000 could deliver
The Summer of Rock begins as Laci and Matt dive into the movie career of Dwayne Johnson with his first leading role in The Scorpion King (2002). The Rock first graced the big screen a year earlier in The Mummy Returns, in a brief prologue in which he plays a character who seemingly has nothing to do with the sturdy nice fellow he plays in Scorpion King. And now he gets to lead a picture. And what a picture. An old-fashioned picture, you might say. One refreshingly free of irony, self-awareness, or any of the oppressive trappings of modernity. This movie's kinda great, actually. And so is The Rock. Is it possible his career peaked with his first feature? We shall find out in the weeks and months ahead. Bonus video: Matt explains why all movie studio CEOs are basically the exact same guy and why they all make the exact same decisions. Road Trip After Hours w/ WWE Hall of Famer Teddy Long and Host Mac Davis
The wrestling world is experiencing seismic shifts as corporate interests reshape the landscape that fans and performers have long known. Mac Davis and Teddy Long dive deep into these changes, offering perspectives that only industry veterans can provide. The conversation begins with Ric Flair's latest controversy, where he dismissed Jim Ross's cancer announcement as "attention seeking" before boasting about making "$3 million at age 76" while dismissing critics who weren't "famous." Teddy doesn't mince words in his assessment of Flair's behavior, expressing disappointment in how the once-respected legend now presents himself. As TKO tightens its grip on WWE operations, reports suggest they're reconsidering Roman Reigns' lucrative contract despite his status as the company's top star. This exemplifies the new business-focused approach that's transforming WWE under corporate ownership. Both hosts draw parallels to WCW's demise, warning that when corporations focus solely on financials without understanding wrestling's unique appeal, the product inevitably suffers. The recent release of R-Truth sparked particularly passionate discussion. Despite being one of WWE's most beloved characters, Truth was let go in what seems like a purely business decision. Teddy reveals a conversation with Truth where he expressed feeling "free" after his release. The hosts explore exciting possibilities for Truth's future, including creative storylines involving "Little Jimmy" that could revitalize his career outside WWE's constraints.Production quality also comes under scrutiny as the hosts compare today's WWE programming to the Attitude Era. They point to a recent Naomi-Bianca Belair segment that mentioned visiting a childhood home without showing any footage – a missed opportunity that highlights how the current product lacks the creative flourishes that once made wrestling compelling viewing.Join us each week for unfiltered insights into professional wrestling from those who've lived it. And if you're in Florida, come meet us at River City Wrestling Con in St. Augustine this weekend!Send us a text

Dive into the fascinating discussion with Ross Benes, author of '1999: The Year Low Culture Conquered America and Kickstarted Our Bizarre Times,' on how the 1990s pop culture revolution — fueled by Jerry Springer, pro wrestling, reality TV, and media deregulation — shaped modern politics, including the rise of Donald Trump. From the Telecommunications Act of 1996 to the Attitude Era of WWE, explore how lowbrow entertainment, technology, and cultural shifts created the polarized, tribal world we live in today. Matt Lewis and Ross Benes unpack the contradictions of conservatism, the impact of 90s icons like Stone Cold Steve Austin, and why Gen X might never produce a president. But, a little-known fact about Tommy's career is that he was the head writer of WWE (WWF at the time)) during their most successful period, starting in 1999, taking over for Vince Russo, who left for the competition. This podcast, Tales from the Attitude Era will be a retrospective of Tommy's time in the head writer position and the roller coaster ride that is pro wrestling, co-hosted by Rob Pasbani. In this episode, we get into how rough flying has become lately—delays, cramped seats, and everything in between. From there, we switch gears to movies worth revisiting (or discovering) from 1986 to today, including a closer look at Natural Born Killers and what makes certain villains truly unforgettable. We also talk wrestling—specifically the chaos and legacy of the Attitude Era, wrestling's impact on our childhood—and break down our favorite male and female wrestlers of all time.A little frustration, a lot of nostalgia, and some solid recommendations along the way.
In Episode 409 of Friends Talking Nerdy, hosts Professor Aubrey and Tim the Nerd dive deep into a heartfelt and wide-ranging discussion that spans Hollywood, professional wrestling, and British sci-fi.The episode opens with a tribute to the legendary actor Val Kilmer, who recently passed away. Professor Aubrey and Tim the Nerd reflect on Kilmer's diverse and iconic filmography, sharing personal stories and thoughts on his most memorable performances. From the enigmatic Jim Morrison in The Doors to the cool intellect of Real Genius, the hosts explore Kilmer's range and charisma. They praise his unforgettable turn as Doc Holliday in Tombstone, his magical role in Willow, and even delve into the controversy and stylistic flair of Batman Forever. The discussion takes a thought-provoking turn as they examine The Chaos Experiment, a lesser-known film with eerie relevance to today's U.S. political climate, underscoring Kilmer's later-career choices and the unexpected legacy some of his work may leave. Naturally, no conversation about Kilmer would be complete without mentioning Top Gun, a film that helped define an era and cemented Kilmer's place in pop culture history.Next, Tim the Nerd switches gears to the squared circle as he offers his insights into the 2025 WWE Hall of Fame inductees. He celebrates the long-overdue induction of Triple H, reflecting on his in-ring legacy and behind-the-scenes influence. Tim also discusses Michelle McCool's contributions to the women's division, the undeniable charisma and strength of Lex Luger, and the tag-team chaos brought by The Natural Disasters—Earthquake and Typhoon. A special segment is devoted to the induction of one of wrestling's most iconic moments: Bret Hart vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin at WrestleMania 13—an induction not of a person, but of a legendary match that defined the Attitude Era. Tim explores how this match's storytelling and in-ring psychology continue to influence professional wrestling to this day. Finally, the episode wraps up with Tim sharing his initial reactions to the new season of Doctor Who on Disney+. Despite high hopes, he expresses disappointment, critiquing a perceived disconnect between the show's creative intentions and what actually makes it to screen. Tim explores how Doctor Who's new direction may be missing the emotional and narrative impact longtime fans expect, offering a thoughtful take on what's working and what's falling short. As always, we wish to thank Christopher Lazarek for his wonderful theme song. Head to his website for information on how to purchase his EP, Here's To You, which is available on all digital platforms.Head to Friends Talking Nerdy's website for more information on where to find us online.
