I think it (along with the rest of the GameCube wrestling games) get overshadowed by the SmackDown series, but if you grew up playing the N64 holy grail titles, you have to play this one. Day of Reckoning's controls feel like the next-step from games like WCW/nWo Revenge and WWF No Mercy. Simple enough for anyone to pick up, but there's enough depth there for us die-hards to really sink our teeth into. Add in a decent roster and a solid career mode, and you have all the ingredients for at LEAST a four-star match. My guest this week is the official referee of RTG, Mike The Ref. We both love wrestling, love wrestling games, and really like Day of Reckoning. Some minor gripes and I explain why I prefer SmackDown, but all in all DoR is a must-play for any Ruthless Aggression era junkies. And before we ring the bell, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks bout the logic behind our scoring system. How do I feel about Wreck-It Ralph? And I give some one-handed game suggestions to a hot dog with a bad wing. Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 old-school wrasslin' games: WWF Attitude, ECW Hardcore Revolution, and WCW Mayhem. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
WCW/nWo Revenge is a professional wrestling video game released in 1998 for the Nintendo 64 game console. It is the sequel to 1997's WCW vs. nWo: World Tour. Like its predecessor, Revenge features AKI's revolutionary grappling system as well as heavily improved graphics, a championship mode, and a large roster of wrestlers (real and fictional). Revenge gained critical praise and tremendous commercial success. According to a 1999 article by IGN, Revenge was the best-selling wrestling game for the N64 console,[1] and at the time, was the top selling third-party Nintendo game ever.[2] Revenge was the last AKI-developed WCW game for the Nintendo 64. The next AKI wrestling game released for the console, WWF WrestleMania 2000, sported THQ's newly acquired World Wrestling Federation license. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/wvuncommonplace/message

Text us and say hello!Hey guys! So this week's episode actually comes to us from the far back time of 2022, when Lou and I decided to record what we THOUGHT would forever be a YouTube exclusive. But, I decided to share this episode with you all for this week for two reasons: 1) I actually did not have a chance to record with anyone for this week AND2) With all the sad wrestling news lately (the passing of both Terry Funk and Bray Wyatt in the same week), I thought it might be fun to revisit one of the greatest (if not THE greatest) wrestling games of all time for the Nintendo 64. So kick back, relax, and enjoy as Lou and I do a DEEP dive retrospective on WCW/nWo Revenge!Support the Show. We've got merch!Check out the site for some awesome Gen 'S' swag :)
Text us and say hello!Join Lou and I in a sort of spiritual sequel to the VERY first episode of the podcast! This time, we are on a journey back to the early 2000s, a time when professional wrestling experienced monumental shifts and witnessed the rise and fall of iconic promotions. In this episode, we delve into the demise of WCW, the end of ECW, the birth of TNA, and the explosion of wrestling video games between 2000 and 2008.We begin by examining the downfall of World Championship Wrestling (WCW), once a titan in the industry. Mismanagement, creative issues, and financial struggles ultimately led to WCW's demise. We reflect on the final episode of WCW Monday Nitro, which left an indelible mark on wrestling history.Moving on, we explore the passionate and rebellious spirit of Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) and the factors that contributed to its eventual bankruptcy. ECW's "Guilty as Charged" pay-per-view serves as a poignant farewell to a groundbreaking promotion that forever changed the landscape of professional wrestling.Amidst the chaos, a new era dawns with the rise of Total Nonstop Action (TNA) Wrestling. We trace TNA's journey from its early days, characterized by a unique format and a roster of talented performers who helped establish the promotion as a credible alternative for wrestling fans. The episode also takes a deep dive into the world of wrestling video games during this era. We discuss beloved titles like the WWE SmackDown! series, WCW/nWo Revenge, and Fire Pro Wrestling, reminiscing about favorite features and unforgettable moments. These games provided an immersive experience for wrestling enthusiasts and paved the way for advancements in online multiplayer modes, expanded rosters, and improved graphics. The early 2000s were a pivotal period for professional wrestling, marked by the end of WCW and ECW, the rise of TNA, and the evolution of wrestling video games. Join us as we revisit this golden era, celebrating the triumphs and exploring the cultural impact of these milestones in wrestling history.Support the Show. We've got merch!Check out the site for some awesome Gen 'S' swag :)
I have no idea why, but it seems like the old school wrestling games kicked ass, and continued to kick ass through the years, including today. This title in particular, amongst some others, stayed awesome all this time and arguably, are more fun than most current wrestling games. Join Steve, Joe, and Sean as we sit down and quickly get sidetracked, jumping into our memories of old school wrestling, using this game as a springboard to dive into a bunch of memories and pointless conversations. Queue up your entrance music, put your ring gear on, and join us as we take on WCW/NWO Revenge on the N64!!

This is the bigger, badder and better version of Match Of The Month. On the last day of the month, I summarise/review anything that has a connection to wrestling and what I believe people should go out and watch or play etc. to see why wrestling is so good. In today's episode, join me, Mark, as I review and talk about the fun and crazy character AKI Man from WCW/nWo Revenge for the N64. I talk about how cool of a character that AKI Man is and how he was used in No Mercy as the dummy to test out the moves in Create-A-Wrestler. #revenge #wcw #akiman Game was: WCW/nWo Revenge (1998). Its a true Whatcha Been Watchin? podcast as yer boys catch up on all the things they've seen lately (and its A LOT)! We make our way through all the best of movies so bad they're actually awesome (StarGate! Anaconda! Does Ice Cube exist in the "Anaconda-verse"? Our first bad movies!) We talk a little bit about Wrasslin' (Royal Rumble! Brock v Roman AGAIN, WCW/nWo Revenge!) Power Rangers! (Lizzie Banks is the SH*T! So... much... Krispy Kreme! Why is this movie Dawson's Creek with robots?) We discuss all things comic books (Dr. Strange, Moon Knight, Spider-Man as an eternally tragic figure- James Gunn and Peacmaker!) Since its episode 007, you know we're talking about James Bond (Casino Royale! Quantum of Solace!) We're also throwing in The Addams Family just for funsies (Christina Ricci is the Sh*t! Why cant we remember Joan Cusack?)
WCW/nWo Revenge is just another brilliant wrestling video game. Ironically, it came out when WCW was beginning to lose the Monday Night Wars! Although WCW went down, WCW/nWo remains popular to this day. Wrestling fans consider it one of the best if NOT the best. The extraterrestrial comedy podcast where we probe the story of Meng Zhaoguo - China’s first alien abduction. Kev aka Batman introduces G aka Robin to Meng, not of wrestling fame, whom witnessed something rather disturbing whilst logging. You could almost say that Meng was smacked on the beak by the evidence. But was there more evidence still? Is there a species of space alien Chewbacca’s visiting earth? If so, you may want to cover your children’s eyes before you go to sleep if you happen to share a room. We also discover today how long an alien remains pregnant before giving birth. This one was investigated by a state-sponsored organisation and you know that they can only conclude with the truth. All that and more on this week’s file. Additional music via: https://freepd.com - thank you most kindly good people. Those keen listeners among you may also have noticed a few pop culture snippets in this weeks episode. That included the menu theme from the N64’s WCW/NWO Revenge - thank you to THQ, Asmik Ace Entertainment and AKI Corporation for filling our childhood with joy (many a war was fought through those games - you have no idea how important this game and its semi-sequel were to us growing up). The composers are listed as Yukie Sugawara and Kouji Niikura so hopefully that information is accurate, thank you. You may also have heard a slight snippet from Nintendo’s Pokemon thrown in there - thank you to Nintendo and Game Freak as well as the original composer Junichi Masuda from whom’s work the Pokemon series music grew. Finally, there was a short transition clip from the 1960’s television show Batman created by William Dozier. The composers there are Nelson Riddle and Billy May. Yes, the person responsible for much of Batman’s music was called Riddle. Coincidence? Thank you all, even if you are super villains.

On this episode, Riordan, Dan & Sam are joined by Steve from SCW to discuss their favourite and least favourite games from the golden age of wrestling games. All that, plus the week's news.

It's Royal Rumble weekend in the WWE, so I figured it was the perfect time to talk about one of my favourite games of the early 90's - WWF Royal Rumble! We rented this game over and over and over as kids, before finally just plunking down the cash and buying it from the video store. It's funny, because WWF Royal Rumble really hasn't aged well. There's not really any depth at all to the gameplay, and the only mode that was worth a damn was the Royal Rumble itself. But that was all little Adam the booger eating wrestling junkie needed! My buddy and fellow comedian Miklos Blackshaw returns to the show this week, and we had a nice chat about cheaply throwing guys over the top rope as soon as they got in the ring, unplugging your opponent's controller to finally fill up your move gauge, and of course, those fucking awesome old school entrance themes. It's WWF Royal Rumble! And as always, before the main event, you have to have an undercard, featuring the Remember The Game Infamous Intro! This week, I talk about whether you should hack an arcade cabinet to add more games, or leave it as is. Should game stores still be promoting Cyberpunk 2077? Which game(s) made me so mad I considered quitting gaming? And more! Plus, we have another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One'. This time, it's the 'Wrestling GOATs' Edition, starring SmackDown: Here Comes the Pain!, WWF: No Mercy, and WCW/nWo Revenge! If you want to skip to something specific, here's where to go: 0:00 - 2:25 Intro 2:25 - 10:00 Initial self-indulgent rambling & 'Expansion Pass #43: 2021 Gaming Predictions' Clip 10:00 - 23:10 'Blowing In The Cartridge' (Listener comments & questions) 23:10 - 37:30 'Play One. The upcoming AEW video game to borrow elements & gameplay from the classic Nintendo 64 wrestling games? Count us in! Mo & Gregg provide these details, wonder why Master P is getting back into wrestling, and also wonder what WWE was thinking at the end of Hell In A Cell.
Remember when World Championship Wrestling was the hottest thing on the planet? In the late '90s, WCW was giving the WWF the fight of their lives. The nWo(s), Goldberg, Sting, DDP, Raven, Bret Hart, Ric Flair; that wrestling company from down south had one of the most ridiculous rosters in the history of the business. Pro wrestling was white hot. If you weren't watching wrestling on TV, you were playing a wrestling video game. And there wasn't a better option than WCW/nWo Revenge. The THQ/Nintendo 64 wrestling games are the stuff of legend. I don't know if there's a video game series I've spent more hours of my life with than the four horseman of 64-bit wrestling. WCW World Tour was the first one, and it planted the seeds that would eventually blossom into it's sequel; WCW/nWo Revenge. I wasn't the biggest fan of WCW's TV product (I was a hardcore WWF guy), but I couldn't get enough of their video games. The WWF had video games - War Zone and Attitude specifically - but as much as I tried to like them, they just weren't that good. The graphics tried to look real and didn't, and the controls were a disaster. WCW/nWo Revenge was the first "perfect" wrestling game. The graphics were bright, colourful, and a little cartoon-ish (it worked great), and it had the most iconic control scheme of wrestling game history. It didn't have things like individual wrestler's entrance music, create-a-wrestler, or a decent career mode (all things that would be added to the later THQ wrestling games), but it was finally a wrestling game that felt fun to play. Being able to play it with 3 of your friends was mind-blowing. And being able to change each wrestler's name and wardrobe added a surprising level of depth. I remember drafting a roster of wrestlers to go up against my friend Shawn's, we'd assign all of our wrestlers a certain shirt, and battle for HOURS. If you hold a conversation about the greatest wrestling game of all-time, the two runaway answers are WWF: No Mercy and SmackDown! Here Comes The Pain (both covered in our archives, FYI!). And while those answers aren't wrong, they wouldn't be options without WCW/nWo Revenge. My favourite memory of World Championship Wrestling isn't anything they did in the ring, it was this video game. My buddy Brad returns to the show this week, and man oh man did we have a time talking old wrestling, old wrestling games, and old Nintendo 64. Enjoy!
We're finally jumping into the squared circle to challenge our first batch of wrestling games, and man, is there a lot to dig into! Luckily, we've got wrestling fan Blake Goetsch to help us dig through the wild history, fascinating characters, and our own complicated feelings about professional wrestling. We tackle the first three wrestling games for the system, WCW/nWo WORLD TOUR, WWF WAR ZONE, and WCW/nWo REVENGE, and try desperately to keep our facts straight. Pro wrestling is probably the only thing on the planet on par with retro video games when it comes to making me feel nostalgic. Being a teenager during the Monday Night Wars and the Attitude Era was something special. If you liked wrestling in those days (and who didn't?), you know what I'm saying. Combine the Attitude Era with the Playstation and the Nintendo 64, and you have nostalgia overload. Enter WWF Attitude. When people talk wrestling games from the 90's and early 2000's, the instant focus falls on THQ. WCW/nWo Revenge, Wrestlemania 2000, and of course, WWF No Mercy are all absolutely incredible. But before the WWF got in bed with THQ, Akklaim was in charge of bringing Stone Cold and friends into the world of video games. And while WWF Attitude doesn't have anything close to the legacy WWF No Mercy (or even SmackDown does), it doesn't deserve to be overlooked like it usually is. A lot of features that are common place in wrestling games today began with WWF Attitude. Things like super deep rosters, in depth create a wrestler, and even the ability to create an event all started with this game. While the THQ titles were taking the game in an "easy to approach and simple to control" direction, Akklaim focused on trying to make their wrestling games a more complicated, simulation type of experience. And while it's easy to look back on some of their decisions and laugh - and believe me, we do on the podcast this week - I think the powers that be behind this game deserve a little bit of credit for trying something different. It may not have worked all that well, but they helped lay the groundwork for what wrestling games would become. My guest this week is fellow wrestling nerd and podcast host Kyle Shaw, and we had a great time sharing stories about not only playing video games, but watching wrestling as well. Enjoy the podcast!

In a Retro Blissed first, we cover not one, not two, but three games in one episode! Your ears will be down for the count as we play, discuss and review WCW/NWO Revenge, WWF Wrestlemania 2000, and WWF No Mercy for the Nintendo 64. Are these three of the best wrestling games ever made, or has time been unkind to these kings of the square ring? Listen now and find out!
Rob & Sean bring you the conclusion to "A Night in Terror Tower". The only executioner that matters is in WCW/NWO Revenge. Bazinga.
We’ve been playing a few games the past month, culminating in a great time at Net Heads. Justin, Cole, Ethan, and Gifford recap the whats and whys of their recent game library to relive Portal, WWE All-Stars, Crysis 2, Monday Night Combat, and others. Send in your questions to simon@horriblenight.com or @TheHorribleShow Enough of this editorializing and headline coverage, we’re here to talk about our games. Not until we get off topic with our Threesomes of the Week where the relationship of the Justins may be changed forever. It’s no secret this week, that our crew had a blast at Net Heads and Cole wants to know how our lives would have been different if Net Heads had been around in our hometowns while we grew up in this week’s On the Spot question. Afterwards, Justins and Cole leave Ethan behind in our monthly gaming discussion covering 4 playthroughs of Mass Effect 2, confusion over Crysis 2‘s appeal, and an uncomfortable amount of baseball conversation. At least it’s about a baseball video game though. Will Ethan return in time for the game industry shout-outs? Stay tuned or skip forward to find out on the exciting conclusion to this week’s The Horrible Show brought to you by stun guns.
