On this special episode of The Hollywood Outsider podcast, we discuss animals in entertainment with none other than PETA, the organization formally known as People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. A while back we did a segment on a horse that passed away on the set of Amazon Prime's The Rings of Power, reportedly due to cardiac arrest. We made our comments, and riffed on PETA's condemnation of the death. Well PETA heard this segment and reached out to us with an offer: let's have an honest discussion about animals in entertainment with PETA on your podcast. So, Aaron and John sat down with Courtney Penley, PETA's Coordinator of Animals in TV and Film to discuss what it is that PETA wants Hollywood to do and what that means for the entertainment industry as a whole, as well as PETA's activism as a whole. So you might walk into this interview with preconceived notions, maybe you support PETA or perhaps you struggle with how they convey their message. We would only ask that you approach this conversation as a whole with an open mind on all sides of these issue, and then listen as all of our hosts join up on the other side of this to discuss our thoughts on the interview as a whole. Discussed on this episode: (0:00 – 47:09) The PETA Interview with PETA Film & TV Production Coordinator, Courtney Penley (47:10 – 1:41:54) Discussion on PETA, the Interview, and Animals in Entertainment Contact PETA to report any questionable animal issues at 323-210-2233 Please support The Hollywood Outsider and gain immediate access to bonus content, including Patreon exclusive podcast content like our Bad Movie Night by visiting Patreon.com/ TheHollywoodOutsider Be sure to join our Facebook Group Follow us on Twitter @BuyPopcorn

Our Dorks open the podcast dorking out about the epic 18th inning postseason game against the hated Astros. They compare this Mariners team to the 2012 Seahawks, talk about what is ahead for this team, what the expectations are, and who on the team will lead them to the promised land. They then give credit to the Seahawks defense for making some improvements in their 19-9 win against the Arizona Cardinals. After they give their predictions for week 7 at the Los Angels Chargers they get into some dorking. Daniel and Millie agree that only actual spooky scary movies belong on Halloween--take your sad, sentimental movies disguised as horror and get out of here! Allanah dorks out about trans themed episodes on Last Week Tonight and The Problem with Jon Stewart, Daniel confronts the patriarchy, and Curtis finishes Amazon Prime's "The Rings of Power." GO HAWKS!

Taking It Down returns this week and as always starts by awarding the Done Up Real Good Listener of the Week as a thank you to a listener for their input (2:48). Then it's some short discussion on how much time we'll give to the upcoming HBO show House of the Dragon (3:52), Amazon Prime's The Rings of Power (6:57), and Disney+'s She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (8:17). Next, Adam talks about watching South Park celebrate a long run (10:57) before shifting gears to discuss some of the movie Belfast as it recently became available on HBO Max (13:51). He gives his spoiler-free thoughts on Belfast to explain why it works so well as a movie. Finally the two hosts discuss the urgent, frightening, and well-paced drama on Apple TV+ Five Days at Memorial, which is based on the true events in a hospital in New Orleans just after Hurricane Katrina (20:03). But it's more than just trauma porn, right? As with every episode, listeners can find it in any podcast app, including Spotify, or listen with the embedded player above. The podcast Taking It Down releases weekly on Tuesday mornings. Check out the site TheAlabamaTake.com for a lot more, including the online shop where you can find all kinds of shirts, mugs, and bags with all of the different show logos!
