Noch ist das Spiel nur eine Demo aber während der Release noch ein paar Monate entfernt liegt, merkt Dom Schott jetzt schon: Bloodspill hat Potential - gerade auch wegen seiner Retro-Inszenierung. Gleichzeitig muss er sich fragen: Kann ein solcher, sogenannter Boomer-Shooter in einem überfüllten Spielregal überhaupt noch erfolgreich sein? Warum nicht gleich ein Spiel machen, das grafisch für eine womöglich sehr viel größere Zielgruppe ansprechend aussieht? Um das herauszufinden, trifft Dom den Macher des Spiels: Fabian Jäckel, ein erfahrener Entwickler, der viele Gedanken zum Spielemarkt, Retro-Ästhethik und nicht zuletzt der deutschen Förderlandschaft mitgebracht hat. Doch im Gespräch geht es nicht nur um Bloodspill, sondern auch um ein älteres Projekt von Fabian, an dem er weiter im Hintergrund arbeiten will - und das verdammt ambitioniert aussieht: Calamity - Oath of Despair, ein Mix aus Dark Souls, Diablo und Roguelite-Überlebenskampf. While he was convalescing, Ignatius read about Christ and His saints and thus turned wholly to God. He went to Montserrat, and hung up his arms before the altar of the Blessed Virgin, entering upon his knighthood in the army of Christ. He then equipped himself for Christ's service by acquiring a good classical and theological education.God favored and refreshed him with such wonderful spiritual lights. He patiently endured sufferings and insults in every place, undergoing the hardest trials, even imprisonment and beatings almost to death. But he ever desired to suffer far more for the glory of his Lord.At Paris he was joined by nine companions from that University, men of different nations, who had taken their degrees in Arts and Theology; and there at Montmartre he laid the first foundations of the order. Among them, St. Francis Xavier was sent to preach the Gospel in the Indies. He dispersed others of his children to spread the Christian faith in other parts of the world, thus declaring war against paganism, superstition, and heresy.God raised up Ignatius and the Society of Jesus to oppose Luther and the heretics of his time, as formerly he had raised up other holy men to oppose other heretics.The members of the Society of Jesus became the shock troops of the Church in the battle against the spread of Protestantism in Europe, as well as one of the greatest foreign mission organizations that the world has known.Ignatius everywhere opened schools for the education of youth in piety and letters. St. Philip Neri and others saw his countenance shining with heavenly light. And his power over the demons was wonderful.Ignatius died on July 31, 1556, at the age of sixty-five.Since then, St. Ignatius is celebrated for miracles and for his great services to the Church.In today's Gospel (Matthew 13:54-58), Jesus returns to His native place, and the people are astonished by His wisdom. But instead of receiving Him, they reduce Him to what they already know: “Is he not the carpenter's son?” Familiarity closes their hearts. They cannot accept that God is working through someone so close, so ordinary, so known to them.That is a warning for us. God may speak through ordinary people, ordinary duties, ordinary prayers, and ordinary moments. If we only expect God in dramatic signs, we may miss Him when He comes quietly.Saint Ignatius of Loyola fits beautifully with today's message. His life was reshaped by God after injury, ambition, and conversion. He learned to discern God's voice, to seek God's will, and to find God in all things.Let's listen when God corrects us. Do not reject truth because it is uncomfortable or because it comes through someone familiar. Before the Hope Diamond had a name or a curse, it passed through the hands of one remarkable Frenchman. This episode tells the story of Jean Baptiste Tavernier, a 17th-century merchant whose six voyages to the East changed the way Europeans understood gemstones forever. Born in Paris in 1605 to a family of map-makers and engravers, Tavernier grew up surrounded by maps and the merchants who traded in them. By 22 he had already visited most of Europe and learned the languages to go with it. He was only getting started. Matthew and Fenya trace his first five voyages from Istanbul to India, from the Golconda mines to Dutch-controlled Batavia, ending just as Tavernier is about to open the imperial jewel casket of the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. Growing up in his father's map shop on the Ile de la Cite, surrounded by merchants talking about faraway countries, Tavernier later credited those conversations as the spark behind everything he did.Going against the established route can be a competitive advantage. With the Dutch and English East India Companies dominating the sea lanes, Tavernier revived the overland Silk Road instead, avoiding bigger rivals and trading along the way.Diplomatic skill matters as much as commercial skill. He carried European clocks and jewellery specifically as gifts for local rulers, smoothing his passage across dozens of borders without the backing of a powerful company behind him.His book is one of the best records we have of this era. Tavernier documented diamond mining operations, grading standards, currency exchange, and cultural customs. Historians and gemologists still reference "The Six Voyages" today.The Hope Diamond's curse may have been a marketing story. Everyone knows the American Revolution was won at Yorktown in 1781, when Cornwallis’s Army was trapped, but almost no one knows that victory depended on a Spanish intelligence operative who raised 500,000 pieces of silver in Havana in just 24 hours, convincing Cuban residents to liquidate their jewelry, gold ornaments, and diamonds to fund the French fleet's journey to trap Cornwallis. Francisco de Saavedra was Spain's ultimate shadow architect, operating like a CIA station chief or Charlie Wilson funneling weapons to topple Soviet Afghanistan, coordinating resources across the Caribbean through the Council of the Indies while gathering intelligence on British naval movements. The silver he raised, equivalent to roughly $1 billion in World War II war bond drives when adjusted for inflation, paid French sailors and provisioned Washington's Continental Army for the decisive siege. Without Saavedra's behind-the-scenes diplomacy, Spain and France would never have coordinated their fleets, and the Mississippi River supply line that smuggled Spanish gunpowder and uniforms to the rebels would have remained closed. Today's guest is James Giesler, author of Francisco De Saavedra's American Revolutionary War: The Spanish Contribution to the Battle of Yorktown. We discuss the unlikely career of Saavedra, an intelligence officer for the Spanish Crown who had such adventures as being capture by the British in 1780 and talked his way out of Jamaican captivity by pretending to be a civilian, why he forced joint Spanish action to capture Pensacola in May 1781 and eliminate the British southern strategy, how he negotiated a treaty for French and Spanish military planning for the first time, and why he planned the 1782 capture of the Bahamas to keep British ships tied up in the West Indies instead of reinforcing Cornwallis.
