Jack's Silly Little Friendly Neighborhood Star Trek Discovery Podcast
We’re coming into 2021 TOO HOT, as Amos Dunn (Ei Sa Da) joins Barm and Jack to FINALLY talk Disco. And we’ve got a lot to talk about, like Osyraa’s machinations, our enduring love of Admiral Vance, Sybok’s mom, the last days of Trump, England’s reduced stature, the return of Kenneth Mitchell, a rainbow of Hannibals in the Emerald Chain, and the passing of the legendary MF Doom. Oh, and Michael Burnham is John McClane. Yippy-ki-yay, motherinos!
Jack and Geoff embark on a month-long exploration of POTA-inspired cult TV episodes as TVember begins! ApeCast theme song composer Amos Dunn is back for a look at awesomely bizarre Australian WWII 60's spy action comedy Danger 5. Nazi dinosaurs, creaming cocktail recipes, Afro-Cuban jazz-playing Apes...there's a lot to unpack here, and the three have a hell of time doing it!
It had to happen eventually: Jack and Geoff take a look at Star Trek's most ape-like of aliens in their discussion of Original Series episode A Private Little War! ApeCast theme song composer Amos Dunn is along for the ride, as the three ponder the ape-tastic Mugato, classic Kirk, and Star Trek in general, while also discussing Amos' new EP Ei Sa Da! Be sure to check it out at your nearest reputable online retailer. It's got the ApeCast seal of chimp-proval!

Jack’s Silly is BACK with some classic guests, and two new ones! From distant corners of the Anglosphere come Brit Emily Thompson (Ribbalicious) and Aussie Amos Dunn (Ei Sa Da) to join returning champ Brian Rudloff (Marvel Star Wars Explorers), Jack’s ApeCast cohost Geoff Clarke, and of course, the inimitable Barm. It’s the perfect episode for them to dish on and evaluate the various accents deployed by the Rios holo-family, and for Jack (tipsy on Geoff’s delicious homemade Romulan Ales) to get out of control with his annoying shitty British accents and Emperor Palpatine impressions! Emily is here to spread the Voyager love and the gospel of 7 of 9, and Amos is here to talk BORGS. And of course, we’re all here to share the love for poor Aggie, Soji, and of course JL. With all due respect, these are six folks who you’ll never want to SHUT THE FUCK UP.
Composer of The ApeCast theme song Amos Dunn makes his long-awaited Return to the Planet of the Apes, along with one new astronaut, Spencer Warn! (The skipper died on the way to what he didn't realize was his home planet) They're here to go ape with Jack and Geoff about the Underdwellers and the surprise return of Judy! Along the way, they'll gab about the deep and sacred love between Jeff and Bill that dare not speak its name, people who can shoot lasers out of their eyes, just how many times you can realistically repeat the same five second sequence of animation over again, Texas, and so much more! Also, Jack and Geoff take a look at “Visions from Nowhere”, William Arrow's novelization of the first three episodes. Go underground with us, and never come back up!
What would you sacrifice to save someone you love? How much would your life change if you were never able to gain closure through grieving for departed loved ones? These questions and more are at the heart of The Visitor. It’s been hailed as the greatest Star Trek episode by some, and canonized by Deep Space Nine and television fans alike, and with good reason. Just like Old Man Jake did with his dad in this episode, Old Man Kevin manages to save Jack & Sam from being unstuck from time by making a noble sacrifice, and then they’re all joined by fan favorite Amos Dunn to gush about how gorgeous and damn near perfect this episode is, careening from pure silliness to deep, heartfelt emotion at the drop of a hat, in classic RTW fashion. And, also like just about any great episode of RTW, look for many musical interludes, both old and new.

Third time's a charm for recurring guest and composer of our theme song Amos Dunn, as he joins us to talk about the horse race in The Horse Race. You're not gonna want to miss the fun as the gang talks about one of the nuttiest episodes of the show so far. The marvelous douchebaggery of General Urko! Captain America and other nations' equivalents! The proper pronunciation of lasso! Gorilla Gold! The long awaited return of Barlow! Jerusalem Crickets! Ape net culture! Blue shells! The golden age of the POTA EU! HORSES! It's all here. With The ApeCast as your trusty steed, you're sure to win every race!
It's the 28th of the month, which means it's time for another special APE-isode! This time, Jack and Geoff are joined by returning guest (and ApeCast theme song composer) Amos Dunn for a discussion of recently-released 80's arcade game adaptation RAMPAGE. They talk about their history with the source material, the bottomless fount of charisma that is Dwayne ‘The Rock' Johnson, and revel in the movie's fun brand of smashy, chompy mayhem. There's also some old business to hash out in the Sacred Scrolls mailbag. Do you smell what the ApeCast is cooking? Give a listen and find out!
Did you think the end of our last podcast pretty much ruled out the possibility of a sequel? Think again! Jack and Geoff are back to talk about one of their favorite Apes films, 1971's Escape From the Planet of the Apes! And joining them for the first time are long-time Apespert and Marvel Star Wars Explorers cohost Brian Rudloff and Ape noob (and composer of our wonderful theme song), Amos Dunn! We're going into the ways that Escape is possibly the most important Apes sequel, the wonderful score and 70s fashions, the unusual places we've seen some of these actors for, the popularity of the Apes franchise down under, some key differences between the movie and its novelization, and how much we LOATHE bananas. This week, our old pal Amos rejoins us yet again to discuss the season three finale, The Adversary! He helps us uncover the identity of the TRUE adversary of the episode, ponders with us the uncertain fate of Australia in the Star Trek universe and finally gives us all the details on just how popular Dennis Miller is down under. Not only that, but we’re airing our complex feelings on Red Robin restaurants, saying hi to our dear friend Alexa and taking care NOT to spoil Battlestar Galactica as best as we can! Oh, and occasionally we’re talking about Deep Space Nine. So, join your favorite dogs and get ready for another crazy trip through the wormhole!
This week, we boldly go where Reopening the Wormhole has never gone before by welcoming not one, but TWO fantastic guests onto the podcast at once! Returning once again to talk with us about Garak, Tain and yet another gross Odo are Amos Dunn and Jason Majeski! In this super-sized installment, we also touch upon the recent remake of Robocop, some dream and nightmare visions of Star Trek: Discovery, the Cardiassian-ness of Benjamin Linus, The Subspace Emissary and sooooo much more! All that, plus our good friend David Boreanaz drops by yet again. Come roll the dice with us!
As anyone familiar with the finale of The Next Generation knows, all goods things must come to an end, and the Cavalcade of Guests is no exception. Fortunately, our guest for the finale is no slouch, and we’ve got a fantastic episode to cap off a wonderful Reopening the Wormhole event! We’re joined by another of Jack’s friends in Japan, the magnificent Amos Dunn! Amos talks to us about watching Deep Space Nine on a black and white TV as a youth, tries to figure out what the hell a hecapate is and plays for us a fantastic piece of music that he wrote on the train, while on his way to record this very episode. We also try to imagine what Avery Brooks would sound like reading the phone book, dig into the magic that is Captain Boday, examine the complex relationship between Ezri and Worf and, of course, spend an inordinate amount of time talking about Gul Dukat’s Cardassian Penis. Because obviously we’re children. It’s a wonderful end to the cavalcade and we couldn’t be happier to have had Amos along with us for it!
