Reach out to Cody and Buhler to tell them what's up!Tell me everything is wonderful now...On today's episode of False Start, John Buhler (Lead Writer, FanSided) and Cody Williams (Content Director, FanSided.com) gave out their extended reactions to the first College Football Playoff rankings of the year.By virtue of some Playoff Goldilocks, they discussed what teams the Selection Committee are Too Hot, Too Cold and Just Right on.From there, they had a bone or two to pick with teams they find overrated in Oregon and Notre Dame, while giving their praise to teams flying somewhat under the radar in Iowa and Texas. To end the show, the guys took a few shots of Everclear with some JLN.You may not be able to listen to the on the AM Radio, but you can always take the time to False Start!

We have been dying to discuss an article called “Why Aren't Professors Braver?” since it was first published in The Chronicle of Higher Education back in September. It's by the psychologist Paul Bloom and it starts with an ode to the professoriate:We tend to be pretty smart. We are sometimes socially inept, but in a sweet way. We are genuinely excited about ideas…We are often generous... mentoring students in ways that don't lead to any tangible rewards. And we are a peaceable lot. If you're sitting at a bar, minding your own business, and some drunk takes a swing at you, the drunk is unlikely to be a professor. In spite of our many praiseworthy traits, Bloom says that professors aren't particularly courageous. When controversial or sensitive topics arise, he claims that we tend to be “too censorious and too self-censoring.” “Why,” Bloom asks, “are even tenured professors, people with the most secure jobs on Earth, so unwilling to speak their minds?”We have posed this question many times since we both became faculty members--and we could think of no better person to hash it out with than our friend, UPenn professor Jonathan Zimmerman.Jon is a historian of education who has had a long and illustrious career, first at West Chester University, then at New York University and now at the University of Pennsylvania. He is the author of many books, including Whose America: Culture Wars in the Public Schools, Too Hot to Handle: A Global History of Sex Education, and The Amateur Hour: A History of College Teaching in America. We were thrilled to have him join us on Banished.Show Notes* Here is the article that inspired this episode: Paul Bloom, “Why Aren't Professors Braver?”, Chronicle Review, September 24, 2025* The term “excellent sheep” comes from William Deresiewicz's 2014 book, Excellent Sheep: The Miseducation of the American Elite and the Way to a Meaningful Life* See Jon Zimmerman's official UPenn bio here* The *circling the wagons* article Jon references is available here This is a public episode. Are you truly prepared for a roadside breakdown, or are you just one flat tire away from a crisis? In this comprehensive episode of Ready Your Future, Todd reveals how to build a proper vehicle survival kit that goes far beyond the basic jumper cables most drivers keep tucked away. This story was read as a part of a live show hosted by the great Judy Blume, on the subject of banned books, something she personally knows about. This story hasn't been banned on its own, but many of Roxane Gay's works have, including Not That Bad: Dispatches from Rape Culture and Hunger: A Memoir of My Body. Because these bans are so prevalent, and so pernicious, we wanted to talk about that cultural argument, too. Surprising to absolutely no one, we at Too Hot are free speech boosters; so after the reading, we feature a fascinating talk with Amanda Jones, the author of That Librarian: The Fight Against Book Banning in America, who is on the frontline of this culture war in Louisiana. The story was read by actress Jessica Hecht. Our host is Aparna Nancherla.

Monday's episode on Police Pod Talk host, Cleveland, sits down with his brother Jeff from Michigan, for a heartfelt and eye-opening discussion on one of the most tragic and disturbing events in recent law enforcement news, the ambush on Police Officers in Lorain, Ohio, where Officer Philip Wagner tragically lost his life and two other officers were seriously injured. Cleveland and Jeff reflect on the devastating impact this ambush has had on the Law Enforcement community, the families involved, and the city of Lorain. Together, they ask the difficult questions, What could drive someone to deliberately target police officers? What is the mindset behind such violence? With honesty, compassion, and years of perspective, these two brothers dive into the emotional and psychological toll these attacks take, not just on officers, but on the fabric of the communities they serve. They also take a moment to honor the memory of Officer Wagner and extend deep condolences to his family, his fellow officers, and everyone affected by this senseless act. The thing about serving the Lord is, there are no days off! The difference between the sacred and the secular in the Christian's life is exactly zero. "Do all to the glory of God," Paul would write to the Corinthians. In his letter to the Romans, he talks about what that feels like from the inside. It feels like something bubbling over. Are we "fervent" - hot, boiling, heated by the flame of the Spirit? Here's the conclusion of Jim's sermon, Too Hot to Handle. Don't be a sloth! Romans 12, verse 11 gives us three directives (one "don't" and two "do's"). They have to do with our outer work ethic, our inner state of excitement in the Spirit, and the purpose of it all: to "serve the Lord." A Christian working with diligence will certainly stand out next to someone advocating a 4-day work week and free paid everything, serving only his own comfort. But maybe this message is Too Hot to Handle. That's Jim's sermon title. Listen to Right Start Radio every Monday through Friday on WCVX 1160AM (Cincinnati, OH) at 9:30am, WHKC 91.5FM (Columbus, OH) at 5:00pm, WRFD 880AM (Columbus, OH) at 9:00am. Brandi's off being a total rockstar at The Sphere with Kenny Chesney (no big deal), so Tish brings in one of the most entertaining reality TV stars of our generation… Harry Jowsey! You may know him from Too Hot to Handle, Heartbreak Island, or even Dancing With the Stars. He's everywhere! And even though he joined reality TV to make people laugh, he's actually super deep. These two silly sausages get into Harry's experience with ayahuasca, grief, assisted dying, and the emotional whiplash of being a reality TV star. But don't you worry, Stoners — it's not just a big trauma dump. Tish and Harry dive into dating hot takes, red flags, and why Harry's sworn off love (for now). Plus, they tackle some Dear MTs with their best advice on a total “turd burger” and a crystal shop ghoster. So if your love life's a mess and your therapist's on vacation — we got you. This week on Toilet Radio: We're continuing our Genre series in which we spend an hour discussing one subgenre that makes up the kaleidoscope we know as heavy metal. This week it's all about HARDCORE. What is hardcore? How did this genre full of suburban knuckleheads bloom from the comparatively cosmopolitan world of 70s punk rock? How in the world did this small teenage scene go from 80s squalor to following Krishna in the 90s, get hip hop focused in the 2000s, and become mostly metal all along the way? We pick out a handful of songs that we think best illustrate the dimensions of hardcore and discuss what these bands all did to inspire a legion of other bands and sub-sub genres in their wake. Folks, it's a good one. Just a heads up, this episode is TOO HOT for standard platforms. You can listen to a stripped-down version here or on Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts BUT if you want to listen to the full, uncut version you'll need to check out the Toilet ov Hell Patreon page. In this episode of “Farmer Wants A Wife,” the agricultural dating show goes full pronatalist, as the farmers display their deference to their mamas – and let them have a shot at picking the next women who will clean up after them for no pay. We dig into the show's deeply conservative vision of motherhood, especially white motherhood, and the fantasy of overflowing wombs the episode weaves for us. Next, we discuss the Netflix crossover reality show “Battle Camp,” a sadistic summer camp featuring stars from “Too Hot to Handle,” “The Circle,” “Squid Game” and more. The show is brutal physically and perhaps even more brutal socially, but at least they're ruled over by their new god: the wheel of misfortune.
