Well It finally happened, a podcaster's worst nightmare. Ron was struck down with laryngitis. He is nearly over it, but it did make putting a show together this week challenging. The good news is that you are getting all new content. The better news is that we are playing a story that we have wanted to run for a long time, but couldn't because of its length. It comes from the October, 1930 issue of Astounding Stories and takes us into the world of mad science. Featured Story - An Extra Man Our featured story is quite unique. Especially when you realize that it was first published in October of 1930 in Astounding Magazine. This one was way ahead of its time. Star Trek was known for its use of the transporter. But where did Rodenbary get the idea for it? Perhaps it came from our story today. It is titled An Extra Man and this is a fun one. In this second episode of the 1930s podcast series, I have dug into the vault to re-package a classic Dickheads podcast episode from our first season in 2018 when we were gathering in the studio. In this episode, we cover 'Alas, All Thinking' by Harry Bates most famous for writing the story that inspired the Day the Earth Stood Still. Originally published in the June 1935 issue of Astounding Magazine, a young Philip K. Dick considered this one of his favorite Science Fiction stories and a major influence on his writing. On we have a tale that is a bit on the wild side of another dimension. It is titled Hell's Dimension and for the record is not a place that you want to stay. Also, on the show, we review the audiobook collection The Chronicles Of Narnia, and I answer a question from Packer5214 that I have been waiting for someone to ask! So press that play button and let's get started. Featured Story - Hell's Dimension Our featured story comes from the April, 1931 edition of Astounding Magazine. I am constantly amazed at the stories they presented in the early years of this pulp mag and science fiction in general. This story truly is astounding in every way. Professor Lambert, deliberately ventures into a vibrational dimension to join his trapped fiancée. Do they escape? You'll find out in the story titled Hell's Dimension. It was written by Tom Curry and is read for us by Michael Harris.
